"Why do people watch movies of mechs and monsters fighting? for the plot of course!" - the people who made this movie, probably. Seriously. The writing was straight up trash. The first movie understood its purpose and managed to successfully entertain without having too much terrible dialogue but it seems in the 5 years it took for a sequel they forgot what made the original fun. I don't care about some children being trained to be the pilots. I don't care about some guys daddy issues. Just fight the damn monsters and keep the cringey writing to a minimum.
