Extraction 2020

07/10.

This is a cliche-filed solid action movie with crazy gunfight sequences. It lacks a good narrative but the thrilling action makes up for it.

If you are looking for nuance there are tons of Dramas out there. It is not trying to be one of those films. This is an action movie as advertised.

@addaks Agreed, however you should rate a movie based on its genre, no? Comparing to dramas, action always loses in my opinion. I think, compared with other action movies, this deserves at least a 7 as youve stated, but I gave it a 8 based on that continuous shot (not the best like the first Kingsmen, however quite good) and some twists concerning the matter that the MC isnt your typical guns blazing "[insert nation here, usually american] hero". The characters here can be seen getting extremely hurt and the direction shows it rather than ignores it or basically makes them bullet proof or beyond resistant. He is just a mercenary who had a damaged past, a cliched one, but this was still better compared with Underground 6 or those Statham action series "The Transporter".

@jlucascaraujo Well put. And yeah I agree this is definitely miles better than 6 Underground.

@jlucascaraujo The continuous shot was probably the highlight of the movie, at least it was for me. It looked inspired by (or at least reminded me of) Children of Men. So if you ask me (not that anybody did): on a scale of Undergroud 6 - Children of men, this can be put comfortably in the middle of the two.

If you rate a movie on it's genre alone, this also gives problems. It makes comparing movies from different genre difficult (so things like best-of lists lose value, not saying they have any to begin with but that's a different topic), or difficulties rating mixed genre (romcom, comedy action, scifi-horror etc.) or genre transcending movies for example. I think how to best rate a movie depends on what the purpose is of the person who is doing it, and for whom he/she is doing it.
In my opinion, rating a movie can only be done for what it is, and a number alone will never be fully representative. Good thing we have the possibility to use text to give context to a rating.
And last but not least, in the end it will still be a subjective value that can be at best a guideline for others and at worse completely useless for anyone.
