Thor 2011

"Thor" definitely has its positives. The design of Asgard was beautiful and the technology on display was a wonder. I liked the integration of S.H.E.I.L.D. into the story and their interaction with Thor himself. Chris Hemsworth is almost perfect for the Thor role and brother Loki is a bit wimpy but connivingly convincing. The battles with the Frost Giants were very good as was the tangle with the chrome 'Destroyer'. It's internal inferno weaponry was a great design.

But the movie loses its impact when Thor interacts with cutesy Natalie Portman. Nearly all of Thor's time on Earth takes away from the splendor of Asgard. Thankfully, the final battles take place on Asgard and not on Earth. Anything involving Asgardians on Earth during the course of the movie look silly. As the final battle rages on Asgard, Thor's new squeeze Jane is limited to occasional shots of her glaring up at the sky, which is as it should be since Thor's time on Earth has literally no impact.

This is a good lead-in for Thor's incorporation into "The Avengers" but it's not a must see comic book movie.
