Thor 2011

The Revisit the MCU Project (2021) #4 of 23

Just about everything with Thor is good. Very good sound, an amazing casting job where just about every actor does a good job, and it looks rather good, If only the story hadn't let it a bit down, this would be a classic.

First and foremost, this movie is filled to the brim with great actors. Casting Hemsworth as Thor has to be the best decision any casting agent has ever done, and just about every role is filled with the perfect actor for the role. Not many movies can boast that.

Second...The visuals and sound are very good when you think about the fact that this movie is actually close to 10 years old. I can still remember when I first saw Asgaard and Bifrost.

And then...we have the story. At first, it's a straight-up origin story, and a good one at that, but then it goes on a tangent that doesn't work that well. It almost ends up a mix between a small-town comedy and a romantic drama. I wish they would have gone for something more...epic.

Don't get me wrong though...Thor works rather well despite the shortcomings of the story. It's highly entertaining for the most part, and it has that glint in the eye we all love about most of the MCU movies. I almost enjoyed this rewatch as much as when I saw it the first time in the cinemas. To me, Thor ranks up there with the best of them...almost.
