If you're hoping for a movie that captures the spirit of the original creepypasta, or the Marble Hornets vids, you're going to be disappointed. Somehow they got Javier Botet for this, and while some of the CGI effects were pretty good, for the most part it was pretty run of the mill mediocre horror. I jumped a couple of times, but it was for pretty standard jumpscares. I didn't even know what most of the character names were for 3/4 of the movie. I also couldn't see what was happening for huge chunks, because it was so goddamn dark. The joy of the MH videos was that they made brightly-lit places seem super creepy, and in many of the early ones, the camera would pan over Slenderman and it was obvious that no one there in the scene had seen him. Those videos remain one of the few things that's kept me from sleeping, because I binged them. This movie is nothing like that. Regular teenagers doing regular dumb teenager stuff. Just once I'd like to see someone grab a shotgun and go after Slenderman.
