It's a mix of Spartacus, Barbarella and American Gladiators. In space. And in silly. (Speaking of silly: I would not even be surprised if the The Rock appeared like he did in that mediocre Voyager episode Tsunkatse. There are some parallels between the two epiosdes). Plus, there's a Dracula guy with laser eyes and punishment collars (which I already know from other shows in the franchise, c.f. e.g. Voyager's The Chute). And colorful speaking brains. Yes it's really that weird.

Is that Trek's comment on enslavement? Or even (attempted) rape? It's pretty weak. And boring. The B-plot back on Enterprise is even more boring.

Eventually, Kirk saves the day. Like he always does. With grandiloquent speeches, with his trademark brashness, with his bare fists and with his alpha-male mojo that makes space babes do whatever he wants. And of course he is bare-chested again (is there a count how many times are see the Captain topless in this show?). This fixation on our hero and the recurring plots are trite.
