Director Brett Ratner looks at the man behind the legend in the big-budget action film Hercules. Based on a graphic novel, the story follows the Greek warrior Hercules and his band of mercenaries as they come to the aid of the King of Thrace to help him fight off a warlord. The film features an impressive cast that includes Dwayne Johnson, Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, and John Hurt. However, the performances are a little weak; as the characters come off as one-dimensional stereotypes. Still, that’s about par for this type of action film, but is made up for by the exciting fight sequences. And, the score brings a lot of energy to the film. Yet while it has some problems, overall Hercules is a fairly decent sword and sandals style adventure.
