En pleno 2014 se siguen haciendo películas tan malas, nunca veremos un Hercules interesante en la gran pantalla? hasta ahora ninguna le gana el cuento para niños de Disney.
for a moment I thought it's 300, you know when they march the legions to fight.
anyway, come on this is not about Hercules and nothing about his legends mentioned here.
this movie is about a mercenary whose priority is gold then turned good for the innocents in the end and his name happened to be Hercules.
Movie is pretty good, just be warned that if you have any particular expectations (especially those gotten from the trailers), wipe them all out completely before watching. If you don't, the movie's just gonna crush those expectations painfully and then laugh at you, and you'll have to deal with that before actually starting to enjoy it.
For me it was better cinema experience than The dawn of planet of apes which I saw yesterday. More original story. Moreover, they compare it to 300, but here is much less blood therefore a bit more realistic although Hercules is a mythological figure while Spartans not :-)
Director Brett Ratner looks at the man behind the legend in the big-budget action film Hercules. Based on a graphic novel, the story follows the Greek warrior Hercules and his band of mercenaries as they come to the aid of the King of Thrace to help him fight off a warlord. The film features an impressive cast that includes Dwayne Johnson, Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, and John Hurt. However, the performances are a little weak; as the characters come off as one-dimensional stereotypes. Still, that’s about par for this type of action film, but is made up for by the exciting fight sequences. And, the score brings a lot of energy to the film. Yet while it has some problems, overall Hercules is a fairly decent sword and sandals style adventure.
Somehow I missed it in the passed years. But I could remember there were 2 Hercules movies in 2014. A bit to much if you ask me. It keeps telling the same stories.

I love mythologies, folklores, & legends. I daresay that the story of Heracles, or Hercules as its been romanized to be, is easily one of my favorites. I did go into this believing it to be a adaptation of the story of the 12 labors, with the poster and the trailers showing off the battle with the Nemean Lion, the first labor. But instead what I watched was quite different. A modern retelling where stories of the legendary Hercules are just that, stories, inflation of reality. It's an interesting take, one that I don't disagree with. Frankly, I enjoyed this movie, but also recognizing it as a film that I'll likely never revisit.
Best character in the show without a doubt Amphiarius. And Atalanta.
My most wth scene... it’s bloody Hercules but he doesn’t have the strength to hold on to a child’s hand as it’s sliding down his arm.
Really fun enjoyable movie. The 3D was pretty good too. One of the much better ones
Mostly disappointing, 'Hercules' fails to deliver in what should've been a thrilling action film.
It's still an OK production, with a few decent qualities. Dwayne Johnson is perfect for the titular role, even if it isn't one of his best performances; the iffy wig doesn't help either. Ian McShane and Aksel Hennie are good casts, though both are a little underused throughout.
I didn't like the multiple villains, especially as none of them really stand out. Away from McShane (Amphiaraus) and Hennie (Tydeus), I don't think they got the correct actors for Hercules' team - the remaining lot all slightly irritated me in different ways.
The plot isn't the greatest here either. I did actually enjoy the ending in truth, it's the best part of the film... everything up to that point plods, as well as having rather obvious plot devices. The overall score could've been better, also.
It all accounts for unsatisfying viewing, unfortunately.
This is one of the worst examples of Hollywood retelling a classical hero story.
First they feel the need to make it more "realistic" by removing anything supernatural from the story, but then the action is so absurd and over-the-top that this only makes it less believable.
Worse. They constantly tease the supernatural as a fake out as if they're mocking your intelligence.
In an era of superhero films, post Lord of the Rings, why do these directors feel they have to make a story "realistic" in order for us to take it seriously?
Setting that all aside, the characters are as cartoonish as they can get, and this is a boring story that bares practically no connection to the stories Hercules is known for.
boring boring boring boring boring
I had very low expectations of this movie. Unjustified. It was not a bad movie. Out of all these recent God-myth-movies, this was one of the better ones for sure.
Huhhhm I Like this Film
"Hercules" is entertaining pop corn flick from start till finish. Turn your brain off and enjoy it. It has cool action, bigger than life Dwayne Johnson as Hercules and good supporting stuff.
Possibly one of the worst movies of recent times, definitely the worst movie of The Rock (yes, that included "the tooth fairy").
Avoid at all costs!
Really liked it. Especially the little twist to the Hercules Story! All in all a nice movie to watch if you just want some action.
I was very disappointed with this film. They should have focused on the twelve labors of Hercules, but they decided to do another movie battle. The classic Disney animated movie is much more cool and fun than this. Poor.
Didn't like it at all.
Better than the last Hercules attempt, Love the genre
Felt more like something that would be shown on the SyFy channel than a hollywood movie... I got bored with it pretty quickly.
Although it was not what I expected, it was good, action and fights, entertain and pass the time
Hercules, the great and invincible Hercules! The hero of Greek mythology, much praised by the famous "Myth of 12 Labours" so often portrayed in films and television. But for those who do not know anything about Greek Mythology in the beginning of the film there's a short introduction of the story of Hercules and his myth. Because is something that is not entirely new, the expectations were not very high, what happens is that the film ends up not disappointed as blockbuster that it is.
Here the demigod Hercules, son of Zeus, feared for his bravery and maximum force will have to help the King of Thrace and his daughter to defeat a tyrant who wants to conquer the lands of the empire. But other surprises are yet to come and Hercules is not to rely on them.
Special effects sometimes may not be the best, but the constant action scenes and the dynamic between the characters make the story not boring. However the last half hour of the film is undoubtedly where the film stands out more! It was the most fun and the one that has greater significance in history.
The film not has a define tone, sometimes it tries to be too serious and other times attempts to be humorous and that comedy is a bit out of place, however there is a character who constantly, and in my opinion well, tries to give a more light and fun tone to the history, the character of Ian McShane. Other major problem with the film is the poor dialogue and the use of many clichés throughout the film.
Normally this kind of mythological films focus more on the historical part of the events, just trying to portray an era, but the difference here is that the film also wants to get an important message of loyalty among people. The chemistry between the cast, which in the beginning seemed to be quite distant increases throughout the film and we increasingly feel the connection between characters.
Dwayne Johnson seems to have become a king of entertainment and see him in the role of Hercules is something we could imagine perfectly. Unsurprisingly he does its job well, but for me is Ian McShane who shines in this film! In it, he plays a mercenary that accompanies Hercules. He is a visionary and the only one who can predict what is ahead over their journeys. A very crazy and fun character who will provide us some laughs. The rest of the supporting cast manages to give satisfactory performances. As for the much talked participation of Irina Shayk, I simply have nothing to say, derived from the fact that she has only one line in the film and all the other scenes she enters (very few) she says nothing. John Hurt is a legend, nothing bad to say about this sir.
The story does not follow completely what the mythology tells but in a film of this kind, we must understand that all must be dramatized to create the desired effect. For the great lovers of Greek Mythology it can be disappointing. The truth is that despite its flaws Hercules ends up being successful in regards to the entertainment it provides us. Not fantastic, but it's not terrible. It's just another average film.
In a conscious way of poking fun at the viewer's eye winking. You can see that the actors are playing great, and the viewer along with them. Do not take this movie seriously. :D
I was thoroughly entertained! Great story telling and outstanding direction!! This movie could have gone so bad had it not been for Director, Joe Johnston. I found no faults or had any eye-rolling moments. Don't go expecting an Oscar worthy film, this is pure entertainment, in every sense of the word.
It's well balanced and hits all the right senses. Laughter, heartbreak, CGI (!) and of course lots of action with great/epic fight sequences (I really liked the chariots scenes, you'll know what I mean when you see it).
John Hurt is his classic self, but Ian McShane, well now, he's the big standout in this movie. I kept waiting to hear "cocksucker" - but sadly it never came. :P
Go see Hercules, have fun and watch the bastard 'Son of Zeus' kick-ass + body-slam a horse. It was an easy to watch, enjoyable Summer day at the movies for me.
7/10

I never bothered with Hercules back in 2014 because the trailer looked awful. It was a nice surprise today when a generic, but decent, action adventure was hiding behind that dreadful trailer.
What saves a rather lacking story, is the well directed action scenes and decent acting. Hercules will never be a classic, but I wouldn't mind finding it again in a few years...
