The Peripheral 2022

I wish I could rate this higher. I really wish I could but despite incredible potential, there are a few things that make it impossible. First of all, there's no second season and there was A LOT I wanted to see, because despite a rocky start, I started to really enjoy this show and I was left with a lot of unknown, a lot of questions and now I won't get the answers. (I mean, I will probably read the books at one point so I'll get them but you know....my reading list is even longer than my watching list so this might take a while). Secondly, the editing/scenaristic decisions make this universe quite tough to understand. They really took the convoluted thing too far in trying to create surprise and mystery. And that's really my main gripe with it : the characters, the relationships, the entire universe.... they want to present it by throwing you into the middle of it and letting you unwrap it little by little but it just does not work. It calls for ongoing attention (which I don't mind and I do enjoy a show that does not treat you as an imbecile) but at some point, it's like if you skip one tiny thing, there's a lot that just won't make sense.

Anyway, it's still a solid show and you can really get into it and its universe once things start to click and come together. Just be patient, attentive and get your brain working.
