A pretty frivolous, campy, and goofy movie, but Shelly Long is absolutely delightful.
Seriously, if they'd cast someone who tried to play the part for laughs, it wouldn't have been as good as Shelly Long's approach as a serious actor playing a goofy character. Shelly is beautiful and bright and her smiling face and BIG EYES make her a joy to watch. The dance sequence alone is a standout scene; Shelly doing those dances, and committing to them, not trying to exaggerate awkwardness for laughs made me laugh out loud.
