If you get to understand this film, it´s excellent. If you don´t, you are gonna think you waste 2 hours of your life.

I honestly think they could have done a better job with this movie. Not sure why it is nominated for best picture, but it's not my cup of tea. The plot is weak and some acting is even weaker, which makes it funny because it's about a play. The dialog is long and sometimes lots of words have been used but nothing is said.

loading replies

is it just me that hated this awful movie?

loading replies

A thrilling leap forward for director Alejandro González Iñárritu, Birdman is an ambitious technical showcase powered by a layered story and outstanding performances from Michael Keaton and Edward Norton.

loading replies

A bizzare, creative and unique film, fully enticing, with its amazing direction, great performances and unpredictable plot.

loading replies

Everyone has been praising this movie's camerawork ever since it came out. Rightly so. It is amazing. Really complements the performances by all the actors.

I didn't quite get everything the movie wanted to say though. Will have to re-watch it someday.

loading replies

Certainly won't be everyone's cup of tea. But it IS genius. Well made, beautifully shot, superb acting and great message. Good choice for the Oscar.

loading replies

This is a good movie, interesting and fun.
That said the one true conceit the academy has is that they consistently overrate movies about being in the business.

loading replies

I didn't get it. I think about it and nothing convinces me.

loading replies

Was it supposed to be an irony from superhero cinema, or was it a midlife crisis of a lost mediciore actor? Either way, it didn't convince me.

loading replies

The characters feel real and fit really nicely together

I'll take some advice offered up by this movie. Critics can't do, which is why they're critical, so I'll keep it short. I could never make a movie. But I do have the capacity to either like or dislike a movie after watching it. "Birdman" featured the most pretentious, self-absorbed jerks I think I've ever encountered. I hated every character in this movie. Well, Michael Keaton's character was pathetic but likable. This pretty much confirmed everything I thought Broadway actors were like. If this isn't an accurate portrayal of stage actors, then why paint the characters in such a fashion?

I got sick of the camerawork. The extended shot silliness limited the movie and what it could offer the viewer.

I've read largely positive feedback from people that I normally trust regarding "Birdman" and I'm at a loss.

Wonderfully refreshing!

"They love blood. They love action. Not this talky, depressing, philosophical bullshit."

Touché.

loading replies

Ohhhhkay - that was interesting to say the least.
Technically brilliant, the one take shot that is the movie - I don´t think I´ve seen that in any other movie before. Acting has highs and lows. The story, or should I say message ? Well, I get it but it´s a bit blown out of proportion for my taste.
It´s a good movie and I understand people who like it as well as those who don´t - for me it´s just a bit to artistic.

Predictable for at least an hour before the climax, extremely boring. The cinematography is getting praise, and I agree with that, but the story is terrible. Not sure why people thought this was so profound. It doesn't take an entire feature-length film to say "action movies are trite and film critics are shallow." Next time just make a YouTube video.

loading replies

I kind of crazy movie. It is not about they giving us «old-fashioned apocalyptic porn» like «Birdman: The Phoenix Rises.»

«They love blood. They love action. Not this talky, depressing, philosophical bullshit» That's hilarious, because that's what the movie may look to the mainstream audience and that's exactly what they were expecting from Birdman.

Bravo!

I've read a lot of negative reviews and comments about this movie and that made me unable to watch it...But but now after watching it I think that this movie isn't overrated as everyone else says,it is really a cinematic experience that happens only once in a great while.

Love the cinematography, but that's about it. Plot gets a 3/10 from me, for triteness and for being obvious an hour before the climax. Some good performances, yes, but also some flat ones.

I seem to be finding a lot of critically acclaimed media "meh" lately.

loading replies

I thought it would be better, and tbh I didn't like this line "and the Prince of Saudi Arabia is bringing one of his wives" the way Western media stereotypes Arabs.....

What I like most was the shot in one take, but the story was boring to me.

I really loved the editing, it was cool! My favourite part of the film however was the amazing acting (especially Michael Keaton)! I also greatly enjoyed the mix of reality/unreality, actually I think that's what made this film for me!
Some would probably find the theather scenes a bit boring, I know my mum did, but as a former theather kid myself, I really enjoyed everything about it. If anything, it was a bit slow in the beginning, but it picks up nicely, and the ending did not disappoint!

loading replies

The movie is all about what is real in the world of Hollywood.. I was fascinated and somehow taken a back by the movie but somehow grown to appreciate it.. I loved it..

loading replies

Birdman is a simple story, yet the screenplay is so creative and the direction so ambitious that the film completely transcends its synopsis. The acting is superb, the cinematography is astounding, and the music is stylish. The movie is as emotionally impressive as it is technically, and it all holds up to multiple viewings.

loading replies

wasn't really sure how id feel about this movie. heard it was good, but I was amazed. camera work is absolutely spectacular, I often say there going "how did they do that"? good acting, good story... took too long to watch this.

loading replies

I've been trying to nail down why this film did nothing for me. The pompous artsy style, the in your face jazz drum line, the fact that nearly every laugh was featured in the trailer, the overuse of overlong handheld following shots, yes I know its one single shot the entire movie, but why, a fantastic technical achievement, but why, ...
It really comes down to, there is not a single likable character. Who the hell am I supposed to be rooting for? Don't get me wrong, this is some of the best acting I've seen in a while, and from everyone involved but the characters themselves are detestable and I find myself without a horse in the race.

loading replies

Birdman totally blew my mind! It's such a crazy, frenzied ride from start to finish. Michael Keaton is straight-up brilliant as Riggan, a washed-up actor trying to reclaim his former glory. The way he brings out the desperation and struggle of the character is just too real. And the way the entire film appears as a single shot? Genius! It makes you feel like you're right there, in the middle of all the chaos. The supporting cast is stellar too, Emma Stone and Edward Norton really bring it. The score, with all those intense drum beats, just adds to the whole manic energy of the film. Some parts might be a bit too artsy and 'out-there' for some folks, but to me, that's part of what makes it so unique. It's like a commentary on fame, art, ego and so much more. I would totally recommend it, but be prepared for a wild, mind-bending trip!

Birdman is essentially a simple story that is made extraordinary by its direction, cast and concept.

What a movie! Superb acting, great plot.. good to see Keaton and Norton at their best. It's a 10 from me. I actually watched this for the first time on a flight, having just been disappointed by Fury before hand, and sure enough, this more than made up for it.

I'm not sure how many wonderful things I could possibly say about this film. The "one-shot" filming style? Superbly done, melding the feeling of a stage play with the freedom of a film. The exploration of redemption and trying to break away from stigma of past work? Quite engaging while also looking at how things stay with you no matter what you do. There's also enough smart humor to keep the pace quick and light, despite the heaviness of some topics and moments. Lastly, the soundtrack sticks out and is overly noticeable, which usually distracts, but here acts as almost it's own character, nudging the characters on. There's not much here to nitpick. I loved it.

Incredibly shot, fantastic score, amazing performances, and an interesting story make this one of the best best picture winners (still probably would of wanted Whiplash to win though).

The only interesting thing about this movie is the Majestic theatre that keeps popping up in the background.

loading replies

Defently not the movie for me and my gf. We liked the actoring of Zach but a good cream makes not a badass cake cuz at first there is a theatre in the movie (storyceptionsh*t) and that much blah. We stopped the movie at 30 minutes.

This film had great cinematography and great acting but struggled with a crappy script. If you watch a lot of movies, like what I'm expecting is the target audience, you'll see the ending a mile away.

Having seen all the other Academy Awards winners that is the only movie that didn't entertain me at all. The story was dragging and not interesting and it was full of curse words. I was relived when the movie was over.

Think about "No Country for old man" with less action and more broken relationships.
