Great take on a classic character, unexpectedly good and with the best song soundtrack in a while
Okay, what the f? How did they pull this brilliant piece of cinema off? I am your standard hater of Disney live-action and I am pleasantly surprised they made me enjoy a Cruella origin film. Wtf. I want that little dog Wink. What a boss.
With the latest live action translation 'Cruella', Disney is trying to mimic the successful formula used for 'Maleficent',. Take an antagonist from one of their classics and switch her to an anti-hero protagonist. Pulling the same trick twice is difficult, even for veterans with big artistic freedoms, the strong studio influences don't do them many favors either.
Disney's firm grip on its own material is understandable, but as we see time and time again is more often than not problematic for most of their current live-action translations. There is not much in the story of 'Cruella' that makes any of the characters very relatable or recognizable for people unknown with the 'source' material. Unlike the 2014 'Maleficent' there is no redeeming villain act in 'Cruella', neither is there a positive message (or any clear one at all for that matter) in the film. Add to that some repetitive and dragging scenes, only kept together by flashy visuals and music. I am unsure this is a movie you want to show to your kids, and for adults it can be rather dull.
Most problematic is the soundtrack. First of all, the choice for a focus on rock & roll and especially punk music is very complementary with the themes in the movie (although the whole status/fashion part of that is contradictory.) However, the songs often feel very forced and only superficially connected to what is happening on screen. Secondly, the movie is simply to family friendly to really be able to carry any sort of punk theme. The mix with Disco and R&B was a mystery to me, especially when 'Car Wash' played i was totally taken out of the movie. There is also an overload of well known songs to be recognized by the audience, not contributing much to the film.
Absolutely the most positive part in this film is the acting. Emma Thompson is impressive and steals the show in this movie. Even though Emma Stone performs great, Thompson kind of outshines her most of the time. Emma Stone is a great actress though, and she does notably well here too. Especially noteworthy is Emma Stone her use of voice. She clearly studied the original voice actor for Cruella wel, and her use and tone of voice is done very accurately and fitting.
Besides the acting and some nice visuals every now and then there is not much value in this movie to put your time in. An overly long runtime, unclear or poor message and a soundtrack that does not do more than a good Spotify playlist drag down the movie as a whole. If you want to see Emma (any of them) shine, it can be worth the watch though.
Emma Stone and Emma Thompson absolutely delivered in their performances, the storyline is better than I ever imagined it would've been!!! 10's across the board and the Wardrobe was to die for.
I have trouble believing the Cruella we saw will be down to skin puppies in the future.
10 minutes in the movie and I was supporting a character I hated my entire life.
Not the best, but not the worst either. More style over substance but enjoyable to watch once nonetheless. Neither character is particually fearful nor are they given any memeorable lines or scene the audience would remember.
As a review in the Irish Times put it "If the film and its protagonist had another name, reviews would still be referring to the Baroness as “a Cruella de Vil type”.".
Cruella = The Devil Wears Prada + Joker + The Empire Strikes Back
The first act (The Devil Wears Prada) has a lot of kinetic energy that totally captured my attention. The second act (Joker) is visually sumptuous, but regresses in terms of energy. The final act (The Empire Strikes Back) becomes a predictable, but top notch performances manage to sell it.
Tbh, when I saw Disney was on the menu, I was expecting something more childish. But this is a very nice enjoyable movie. I liked the characters, dogs, story and the scenes. Enjoy.
An ok movie overall. The best thing the movie had going for it was the soundtrack though. It was really well done. The movie is also too long. This one was a watch once and never again for me.
This is an awful lesson for young people, especially young girls. There is no moral or values at all, only stealing, lying, deceiving. The treat murder as if it is, oh ok whatever. The focus is hate, revenge and other negative things. No positive lessons for kids, only negative ones.
It's really just two awful people being awful while everyone else around them suffers for it. Jasper and Horace are treated like dirt by Estella (the fact that she's projecting her behavior onto the character of Cruella doesn't make it any less her behavior) and the Baroness is basically Miranda from The Devil Wears Prada, without any of her redeeming qualities.
They couldn't even commit to making Estella a bad person, not completely at least, making her give a half heart-ed apology that suddenly undoes weeks of being a complete empty-loo-roll to everyone. They kind of frame it as 'she didn't kill the dogs so really, she's pretty okay'. Idk bout you but 'don't kill dogs' is too low of a bar for me. If they had got her to kill the dogs and continue to be that-tiny-bit-of-mold-that-means-you-have-to-throw-the-whole-loaf-away then I would have at least respected the film for committing to writing a disgusting protagonist, instead of writing one ad then backing out in the last 20 minutes of the film.
It may be the point of the film, but you are essentially just watching two very over dramatic and self-centered people prance about for 2+ hours and I personally found that I couldn't be less bothered by their antics.
Should be noted though that the costumes are very good. You can probably just find those on google images and enjoy them without the arduous film.
I really really enjoyed this film. Do recommend. I went in not expecting much and thoroughly enjoyed it.
This was pretty much "eh".
More entertaining than Army of the Dead.
We don't learn what makes her into a dog killer and wearer.
The only bad things she does in this movie are wear dramatic make up and rob people with the help of her trusty sidekicks and her dog.
She seems to like her dog. Dalmatians however are shown as villains in this movie, so maybe they deserve her later hatred.
"Wreaking havoc at galas is my personal specialty."
I go back and forth on the “why do we need a backstory for a classic villain” train. There are plenty of aspects that I like in this (Both Emmas did well as usual), but it does feel a bit long and could’ve tweaked a few plot points.
I like Emma Stone. But I don't like this. Just boring.
I haven’t found anything unique in this film, I it was an attempt carried behind Disney name but failed to deliver plot as good as Joker’s film.
Cruella tells the origin story of one of the biggest love-to-hate Disney villains of all time, Cruella DeVil. Before she was a feared hater of animals, Cruella was known as Estella DeVil, an orphan with dreams of one day becoming big in the name of fashion. She begins working for the Baroness, a no-nonsense fashion expert with a killer extinct to do what needs to be done. When Cruella realizes the Baroness may have had something to do with her mother's death, something dark and long-hidden in Estella begins to rear it's ugly head.
Tell you what, I didn't know what to expect from Cruella, but I definitely wasn't expecting this. I had seen a lot of other folks say that this was their favorite Disney Live Action remake, and I had to scoff that off, simply because this isn't a remake of anything. You want a remake of 101 Dalmations, they already have that -- that was Disney's very first live action remake, actually -- Cruella is simply a prequel/spinoff/reimaging that introduces a well-known villain in the same vein of Maleficent -- but even Maleficent was a remake -- it was just presented with a different perspective. This is just an origin story -- so it's hard for me to include it in the same list of the others, but it works, and people are indeed correct when they say this is either one of the best or the best live-action Disney remake, and I'll try to explain why.
When thinking back to those 101 Dalmation films, I have to say that they don't immediately feel nostalgic. I think those stories are fine, but when it came to Disney, I related a lot more with other films, so I felt at best, Cruella would feel like that -- but I might make the argument that this is better than the cartoon or live action remake of the original Dalmation films because there was so much focus on certain things like production design, set design, hair and makeup, cinematography, editing, soundtrack. Everything. I think my entire Behind-the-Scenes category scored perfect points with this film. It knew exactly what it wanted to be, and what it wanted to atmospherically feel like.
That's another thing -- even though this is arguably much darker and edgier than those fluffy 101 Dalmation movies that kids can love, I weirdly enough fully believed this took place, or could take place in the same universe -- which was a similar feeling I got when watching Joker that that world could eventually see Batman show up and battle Joaquin Phoenix's version of the Joker -- so, I'm gonna say it...this is the best acting I've ever seen from Emma Stone, as well. She really gave it her all here -- as soon as she got this sultry British accent going, there was no doubt in my mind that her performance alone would be the selling point for this film -- and even if you're a die-hard fan of Glenn Close as Cruella, I'm telling you right now that...Emma Stone kills it as this absolutely troubled and even crazy character who is often holding back an explosion of emotion, and how difficult she finds that to be, especially because being "cruel" is in her nature. So, her performance, in addition to the solid use of visuals, cinematography, editing, and music makes Cruella a very good Disney film that's worth the watch, especially if the tried and true remake formula leaves a distaste in your mouth.
Personally, I don't have a ton of negatives for the film, either. I don't think it's perfect...or a masterpiece...not by a long shot. There's a few element in the movie that I'm sure could have been approached better, but I couldn't find one area in the film that specifically stood out to be as bad. So, take that as you will and let's take a look at my final score. From a technical vantage point, the main areas that stand out to me definitely come down to the visuals, as this is a very...artsy kind of film. It tries desperately to get things right in the costume department, hair and makeup, production design and the like. It's a very visually appealing film in general. The cinematography and editing gives this film an ambience that is, at least to me, incredibly welcome. The music choices were also interesting, because this is definitely an era type film where it takes place in the past, but they're often using modern/current music choices, which I thought worked wonders here. Past that, Emma Stone's performance, as well as everyone else's really, was all worth a mention. This technical, unbiased score is 92%.
My biased score, or how I felt about the film in general, is a little bit higher because I was honestly kind of blown away by how good it actually was. There was two movies that came out the same weekend. Cruella and A Quiet Place II, and I can't speak for A Quiet Place II, as I haven't seen it yet, but I fully expected it to be better than Cruella, and now I'm honestly questioning that. My biased score is 94%, and when we average these two scores together, we come to the final rating of 93%, 93 out of 100 possible stars, or an A letter grade.
I'm as surprised as you are, but they did a lot right here. When initially, I questioned Emma Stone's casting, I now think she was perfectly cast, that she was essentially born to play this role.
...PEACE OUT
Two enrapturing lead actresses, stunning cinematography, gorgeous costumes and a great taste in music.
The story wasn’t my favourite but the movie was entertaining and stylish, which is what a movie about Cruella De Vil should be above all.
Cruella
The film tells the story of Cruella Devil, played by a classic Emma Stone, that is as amazing as in any of her films. I wouldn't be surprised if she gets a nomination in the Oscars for Best Main Actress.
It's a good movie, some things just don't make sense with the character Disney created, but I understand that they wanted to readjust some things to make it more family-friendly.
Stunning visually, we have some amazing outfits, the 60s-70s songs are great.
I didn't have such high expectations, but I was surprised. Too bad about the repurposing, I would have preferred to keep things as they were originally described.
6.5/10
I was not expecting this. It was just wonderful, from the outfits to the music to the atmosphere but most of all the acting. Emma Stone throws out sparks against Emma Thompson and every scene with the two of them together is a delicious diabolique delight. Both actresses look to be having tremendous fun being truly wicked.
Crazy that they cast an American actress to play a posh English lady–you'd think Britain had no shortage of talented young actresses who would have fit without the need to fake an accent. While Emma Stone delivers a decent performance, I'm not buying her as Cruella de Vil. In fact the Baroness was pretty much Cruella the whole time. Not a particularly satisfying ending, and the transition from Estella to Cruella felt contrived and abrupt.
Worst movie I have ever seen
Another crap origin movie for a character that dont need it, just the usual bored disney movie.
It is kinda cheezy, but great acting and a descent story line. If you are a teen it is a good movie. It is worth watching to say the least.
Cruella is a refreshingly different approach to origin stories that often plague Hollywood. Instead of focusing on the violent child skinning and murdering dogs, it tells the story of a struggling fashion designer in 1970s London, caught up in the competitive world of fashion, while also dealing with the loss of her mother to an unknown perpetrator. Emma Stone delivers a strong and energetic performance as the antihero and is assisted by talented costume designers, hair and makeup stylists to create new iconic looks for Cruella. She is matched by Emma Thompson as the cruel Baroness von Hellman, Cruella's employer and eventual enemy, their escalating fashion duel provides some visually stunning set pieces. While the movie raises the question of necessity, it will be interesting to see how it leads to the story of 101 Dalmatians in future films. The movie is also powered by a great soundtrack of songs from the era, which will appeal to some but alienate others. A few pacing issues aside, and despite the risk of overstaying its welcome, Cruella is a surprisingly stylish, prickly and fun backstory for an already-iconic character.
Good choice for family movie night
Absolutely stunning production and the cast couldn't have been better. I loved every moment of this movie and have watched it multiple times.
Well, i loved 101Dalmatians and i love cruella... im not sure which i like more. Yeah well the Storyline is not fluent with the first Movie but .... who cares?! The Peformance, the Effects and the actors were brilliant.
Im already excited to see the Movie again and again ... addiction alert ;)
Well was very happy with production and highly impressed as well. Good story line and good cast members, I highly recommend this production.
We can feel a slight analogy with "The Devil Wears Prada". However, as with Prada there was this black vs. white competition but here the couple Stone and Thompson managed their black roles without building opposite character sides.
I loved this movie incredible actors !
Manages to work despite it making Cruella likable and gives her a good reason not to like Dalmatians. Since the heist scenes, performances and music choices are all perfect. The direction is fine as well.
Except Cruella in this doesn’t want to kill animals and wear them. So what is the point of her name even being Cruella Devil ?
It’s like what Disney did to Maleficent who was a nice fairy until her wings were cut off. There was no sign of the evil villain from Sleeping Beauty. Here, there’s no sign of the evil villain from One Hundred and One Dalmatians either.
Since spoiler, she even eventually owns Dalmatians. The film does give her a good reason not to like them but this version of Cruella acts like she would never kill a dog.
Despite that this is a fun and entertaining movie that really had no point in being made. Since like Maleficent it makes an evil villain good. It’s like if Disney makes a prequel movie about Palpatine from Star Wars except he is never actually evil or the bad guy.
Disney's Cruella was a beautiful cinematography and a modern take on her and her love for Dalmatians .
Cate Blanchett gave the most wonderful performance as Cruella. I have never seen a performance that I have wanted to watch again so much. I loved that her hair was always fluffy, just like mine. When her hair came to the front I wanted to scream!
I loved this movie so much and am so glad that this movie was made.
I am currently a senior in high school, and my mom loved this movie as much as I did. That means a lot to me because my mother loved it, so I really wanted this movie to come out in the theaters. Unfortunately, it didn't.
What you get is what you pay for and I know that everyone wants to see this movie, but don't.
Totally agree. My mom loved it. This movie is one of her favorites and I have loved it since I was a child. It definitely deserves more credit.
8/10.
Soundtrack is awesome. As for the movie itself? Weeeell... Let's just say it's a violent version of a Disney movie for the kids.
Wasn't so good, there are better things to watch.
Enjoyable movie. Great acting by Emma Stone.
Well that was a surprise!!! Waaay better than expected.
The Emma's were on their game throughout the movie, the story was interesting and engaging, special effects terrific, Emma Stones' English accent was very good, all the actors were perfectly cast..
9/10
was way better than expected. seriously way better than expected.
only thing I wish Disney would quit making the bad girl back story being based on people being awful to create an awful person. let's be honest some of the nastiest people in this world have everything handed to them and hide behind the assumption created by Hollywood that makes them "good" people.
One of the best Disney movie of recent times. One of the few times I supported a “evil” character, the other notable one being Harley Quinn. Amazing movie!
Excellent film, very entertaining and very entertaining for young audiences. It is the best of Disney's live action films. The anti-heroine vs. villain plot is a successful formula that I hope they continue to use in future remakes. They knew how to give a very good plot twist to the story. They reinvented the villain in the best possible way. Emma Stone's quality and histrionics are brilliant, as always, she was born for the role. You can tell she let herself go and was enjoying herself as she channelled Cruella's evil and madness. Powerful performance. While the characterisations are very cartoonish, they fit well within the Disney aesthetic we're used to, we don't really want a realistic film, we want to have a good time. Costume design worthy of an Oscar nomination, the visual quality is TREMENDOUS, what a beauty of costumes. I really liked Estella's relationship with Jasper and Horace, the actors vindicated these henchmen, and made them more than comic relief. They are frankly ADORABLE .They went from being silly minions with no emotional weight to being Cruella's family, that relationship is cute and works really well in the plot.
The 80's punk-rocker aesthetic fits like a glove to Cruella's anarchic and revolutionary personality. Her smokey eye, red lips and the use of leather in her clothes is a fantastic success. It is a visual spectacle.
It's definitely a good popcorn movie.
It will take you out of your reality of tedium and boredom for a couple of hours and I swear it will make you enjoy from the first minutes to the last. The post-credits scene leaves you longing for a sequel, because Cruella's story still has a lot of ground to cover and there's still a lot left to tell from the original story. In conclusion, you can't demand more from this film.
Honestly really good for its genre and compared to other films of the sort that have been getting made recently. Emma Stone is the baddest motherfucker.
Way too long and in parts boring. Some actions were not motivated well enough. I am, however, not quite sure what they could have cut out, since the story, especially the ending, would not make much sense otherwise.
that’s how you make a live action!!! brilliant film!
Movie is fine. I like the story, actors are fine and as a whole it was fine to watch. But I'm sick of that CGI everywhere. Do we really need digital dogs? There's more CGI in the movie than reality. Exteriors, fire, smoke, cgi in almost every scene. And it doesn't look good in the movie like this.
Emma Stone is The god of talent. Cruella is one of the best Movies ever...
She is so AWESOME!!! And I absolutely loved this movie. :hearts:
Let's see... genius little white girl breaking free - check
Good-hearted black little girlfriend - check
F school - check
Privileged white boy - check
Nasty white school principal - check
Saint single mom - check
Getting out of small shitty town to big city promised land - check
And those were only the first two minutes of movie. Then, breaking the law with two loser beta men, nasty white male boss
Alcohol - check, biatch big boss, black nail polish, biatch boss cuts employee and laughs, gays all over, Imbecile incompetent men,
Skinny short femme fatale beating up several men guards, revenge is good, killer instinct is good, don't be sweet, be cruel and narcissistic.
CHECK CHECK CHECK CHECK CHECK CHECK. Disney the best at brainwashing indoctrination. But when it comes to movies... recycled material, a lot of superficial bling, and Hollywood to showcase it all
I was excited when I heard that Emma Stone would play a new version of Cruella DeVil in an origin story feature film. And boy was I not disappointed. Brilliant acting by Emma Stone and Emma Thompson. The story was quite smart, the look was really original and the soundtrack was awesome. I strongly guess that there will be a continuation in the form of another movie which I‘m already excited for.
One of Emma Stones best roles by far and an extremely welldone soundtrack.
One of the best Disney's movie.
Emma stone shone like a star and the soundtrack was just amazing
It's so good! Emma Stone once again delivers a brilliant performance, and this is one of Disney's best in their "bring cartoons into live action" series.
From the start Emma Stone was brilliant she is believable as both naughty and nice with her Cruella change and the storyline kept you interested along with the fantastic soundtrack which just added to the whole experience. Loved it
The announcement trailer didn't convince me but damn this movie was good!! Great acting from Emma Stone!
Didn't expect it to be as interesting as it was. Great set design, characterization, and acting. Made me want to be more like Cruella which is mind-boggling with how I saw her as a kid. One of the few live action Disney films I genuinely like now
Watch it, you won't regret it! Awesome use of rock music too and of course we can forget Emma Stone just being a BAMF throughout the film
Who doesn't love the villain-origin stories.
And who doesn't love girl boss crooks!
1 got so excited hearing the riff for whole lotta love, basically at the edge of my seat, waiting for it to kick off.
The delivery with the dress at the ball was a gag.
I feel like the role of Artie was made for David Bowie. I kept seeing his young self as him.
And the Cruella act is... interesting. Very over the top, but makes sense for a fashion designer.
I liked that scene on the post bike. It was a nice touch. All those potential hopes and dreams of the people writing just getting blown away with the wind. Like her idea of her whole life just shattered.
The "sit" scene was boss.
Poetic Justice is my favourite.
More fun to watch than I imagined. I liked the progression of the character, but I loved the presentation of cruella being a fashion rockstar.
I doubt very much that this will be the last "historical revisionism" film of the origin of traditional Disney villains. Good music, good fashion.
A brilliant and refreshing take on the villain origin story, Cruella is a winner. A visual feast supported by a fantastic score that brought you into the time without undermining the tone of the film or turning it into pastiche. In fact, walking the thin line between something new and something painfully derivative is a tension that you feel throughout the whole film. There are moments that hint at The Devil Wears Prada, and moments that hint at a cartoonish heel turn, and moments where you worry the script is about to toss out two acts of character development for the sake of a neat and tidy ending.
None of these worries transpire. And now I find myself wanting to rewatch to see how the movie feels without that kind of weary tension around where the story is taking me.
It goes without saying, I think, that Emma Stone and Emma Thompson deliver powerful performances. But I want to single out Emma Stone for moments of expressive brilliance. My goodness. There is a moment toward the end of the second act that took my breath away. Stone is alone and delivers a line that is meant to serve as a transition from who Cruella is to who Cruella is becoming. For a few beats of silence of silence, we see the conflict play out in mouth twitches, nose wrinkles, and in the tiniest betrayal of tears welling up in her eyes. The silence is broken by a line that seems to come from the Cruella we’ve seen in the film so far.
It was masterful. I am trying hard not to spoil it because I want you to enjoy it.
I delayed watching this movie for longer than I should have. Mostly because of Disney Nostalgia Fatigue. I watched it because I was drawn to Stone and Thompson.
Glad I did.
I don't like Emma Stone. But after this movie, i do. Excellent performance !
This was actually a pretty good movie. My wife and I went into it expecting it to be bad considering woke Walt Disney was behind it, but we were actively surprised that they didn’t push so much propaganda, and actually made a movie we enjoyed watching.
Not my favorite of the recent string of live action Disney films. However, Emma Stone absolutely nails the role! As a lover of the 101 Dalmatian movies, I really wanted to love this one. I did not. I liked it, but I hoped for more. There is a sequel coming, and I hope I like that one more.
Rating: 2.5/5 - 7/10 - Worth Watching
I had zero expectations for this movie, but was delighted by how much fun it actually was. I mean sure, it's a little surface in that its rebellious spirit is equal to a trip to Hot Topic, but I mean c'mon guys, it's a Disney movie! How far were you expecting this to go...?! It's a campy love letter to glam-punk and I loved it for it. It also gives a surprising amount of depth to a puppy killer.
What's with the CGI dogs?
Disney’s fascination with glorifying villains continues with Cruella, a re-envisioning of 101 Dalmatians. The story follows a young orphan named Estella who falls in with a pair of thieves and eventual becomes a fashion designer, but when she discovers that her boss is responsible for her mother’s death Estella plots her revenge. Starring Emma Stone, Emma Thompson, and Mark Strong, the film has a solid cast, however the characters are a little weak as Thompson’s cold blandness is off-putting and Stone overdoes the sarcastic wit. Still, a lot of the humor works and the con job a kind of clever and fun. Also, the soundtrack does a great job at setting the tone. It's a mixed bag, but overall Cruella in an entertaining film.
Emma Stone is a darling as the titular character and the supporting cast is also really good but I’m still having problems with giving it a higher score.
The plot is very thin and predictable and movie doesn’t really capture me.
Maybe it’s the voiceover or the fact that Emma has done a so similar performance before in Easy A.
Has anyone got this working? It crashes kodi every time I try
It's quite rare to see a nice backstory, well written and well told. The cinematography and the soundtrack are on point. Hard to remember the last time I enjoyed a movie like this one.
I went in very skeptical because I grew up terrified of Cruella in 101 Dalmatians. The iconic version Glenn Close gave us, who could come even close to that? And while I really like Emma Stone when she got cast for the role I didn't quite see it yet but she delivered!
I like to see this as a different version of Cruella, especially given how this movie ends. I'll explain it away under 'multiverse'. Similar to the Joker.
This movie gave us a Cruella that felt like a hero, felt like a villain, felt like someone inspiring and powerful while also just straight up mad and psychotic. It's the kind of character I personally love. She's theatrical but done with flair. You know she's mad but the Baroness is on a level of psycho that makes you root for Cruella.
Jasper and Horace are lovable as always. Just like in the 101 Dalmatians movie they are the bad guys that you can't help but love. The dalmatians come across as straight up evil. Which makes sense as we see the movie through Cruella's eyes.
I have to give a huge thumbs up to the writers. The story was written well. Nice twists, creatively done and it actually does the characters justice. This could be a prequel to 101 Dalmatians but it also could be a totally different Cruella (like I said, multiverse) and I feel like the writers had respect for the original movie and us as fans. Honestly, I'm so surprised at how much I enjoyed the movie and now that I've watched it I can say; yes, Emma Stone IS a wonderfully mad Cruella.
File alongside Maleficent as an origin story we didn’t really need. It’s still fairly enjoyable but the characterisation of Cruella is very inconsistent. Stone is terrific, however.
Did not expect to like this as much as I did.. scrap that love. Everyone’s performance was perfect and the story was amazing. I also want a dog like Wink so much. What a little cracker
Great movie so well made full of nice editing and a BRILLIANT perfomance from Emma Stone. She was so enjoyable in this movie at her best! 8.3/10
I enjoyed this movie more than I expected I would. Was nice to, from time to time, realise who people would turn into. Usually am not a huge fan of Emma Stone but she was rather good in this movie. She does have a range after all. Emma Thompson was brilliant as always.
God, this was a masterpiece. All those dresses, all those plot twists, all the dialogues. Everything made so much sense! And the way they managed to work in Anita, Roger, Pongo, and Perdita? Perfection!
i really dunnow how i feel abt it .. its very fun n enjoyable but i had higher expectations ig ?? after all it was just a very typical movie, good girl going bad then comes back to the right road ,-, but yea it was lil more spicy
WHOA. That was unexpectedly AWESOME. :exploding_head:
I was not specting to like this so much, the soundtrack, the Emmas! This didn't feel like a Disney live action movie at all! & that's what I loved about it. I hope they keep doing live actions like this from now on...
emma is one my fav actresses and u can see why. this movie was brilliant and entertaining. i cant possibly figure out what her next move is and that just builds up the hype for the sequel which i think there's one (has to be). i loved it.
Emma Stone is such a good good actor! I love her portrayal of Cruella. Not really my favorite but I think this is a good film.
I don't even know where to start, this movie had everything. A great soundtrack, check. Stellar wardrobe, check. 70's London, check. Emma Stone must be experiencing back pain after carrying the movie with her performance, she nailed everything down to the accent. There were some aspects of the movie that reminded of the devil wears prada, I guess they drew some inspiration from that. There were however a lot of flashing lights in some sequences which were uncomfortable to sit through. Overall, a very well done villain origin story.
Story = 8
Cinematography = 8
Soundtrack = 9
Production Design = 9
Acting = 8
Overall score = 8.5/10
Loved the movie and loved the soundtrack…. Very entertaining
Fun movie but Wink and the soundtrack steal the show. Amazing music. Though I wished they used the actual Zeppelin version.
Honestly i wasn’t expecting much but it was really good! Love Emma Stone and the soundtrack is amazing!
I love Emma Stone and the outfits were sick as hell so I enjoyed this movie a lot
Fantastic watch! Certainly deserved 10/10
Emma Stone is really a good actress, Cruella is a great movie. really nice :relaxed::slightly_smiling:
Cruella is a concert of cool where the bangers are non-stop and the pyrotechnics blaze like a neon bonfire.
The perfect length for all the awesome or contained, Cruella came up to me in the night, kissed me full on the lips and broke my heart when she left.
i've always been very meh about emma stone as an actress but i must admit after watching this she's truly great at what she does. the Emmas had such great chemistry! loved every minute of this.
And the Dog's were GREAT!
Excellent. Emma & Emma played their parts extremely well. Good aching, great twist on an old story line and Excellent music.
Well worth a watch. Well done Disney Studios.
Cruella wears Prada, in this case, Vivienne Westwood, the punk fashion lady of the 70s, confronting the classicism of Balenciaga and Dior for The Baroness. There is an impeccable aesthetic in a visually lavish film. So many screenwriters have created a somewhat flimsy Cruella origins. Digital dogs continually provoke the "uncanny valley" effect. But Emma Thompson is more wonderfully Cruella than Cruella herself.
Great Movie, one for the older people. One of the best of Disney productions. Tells a great story, I like this one a lot. Great music great acting. Super.
So glad I chose this as my return-to-cinema film. What an absolute riot! That cast, that soundtrack... just superb. One minor thing that I enjoyed was its lack of 'look at this important thing from the other film(s)' it did. The story was its own thing and any specific references (beyond the characters) were organic, which is a rare trait in origin films like these.
Brilliant! Loved the costume designs and Emma Stone come through! I know who I might add to my cosplay list ^_^
Clearly they tried to make a copy of "devil wears prada" mixed with Emily in Paris. Not that is bad, it's just not original. Excellent soundtrack!
10/10, a rare gem. It's better than you expect it to be, better than it has any right to be. It's a fresh take on a classic character. Emma Stone was born for the role and she plays the hell out of it. I honestly did not expect to like it nearly as much as I did. Mindblowingly fantastic.
Entertaining and fun. Not sure if the characters are consistent enough to truly believe that they're the same ones we end up with in 101 Dalmations, but as a stand alone movie, it's worth a watch.
The soundtrack on this slaps. The fashion is very London grunge and really fun. It's kind of funny though, the spin on Cruella's origin story of how she wants to kill the dalmatians for a coat.

While not many people may have asked for this film it’s certainly a stylish film with an engaging narrative and two excellent performances from the Emmas. Definitely one of the best Disney live action films and one of 2021’s most fun outings.
