Such an annoying and disrespectful protagonist which made this physically painful to watch. Shame on Blumhouse.
What an insane ride! This is a chaotic, hilarious, nasty social media/found footage horror with a splash of pure insanity from Annie Hardy. It's not those slow burn found footage type, instead it throws everything it has at you until you throw your arms up in happy surrender. Seriously though, if you just look away for a second you'll definitely miss something because crazy shits keep happening. There's so much creativity shown onscreen and the effects are crazy impressive for a found footage. The protagonist is absolutely insufferable but she’s also hilarious as hell so yeah, I had a lot of fun with this and it's barely over an hour.
I can appreciate the unhinged, gory monster antics but it’s all ruined by the shaky cam found footage nonsense. I’m not a found footage hater but this simply does not work and completely undercuts some of the mayhem that would actually save this film. The extremely online anti vax lead is way overblown but definitely grating with the constant back and forth of acting like a person and then minutes later becoming a cartoon. At a running time of 79 minutes including credits, it still feels like an eternity.
my head hurts. what was that? loud, annoying, without any sense. yikes.
The biggest waste of time of all my life
OK, what the hell have i just watched? And why did I see it through to the end? And how did Annie not die, given what happens to everyone else? At one point I was rooting for Angela to kill her!. Such a waste of a potentially good premise.
Way better than I anticipated. I did not think I was going to like this movie
17 minutes in and I can't STAND the main character. I'm on the verge of turning it off and abandoning it.
3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Dashcam’:
Was that supposed to be funny?
This movie — the longest 80 minutes of my life — can be summed up in one word: repulsive. From all the unnecessary body fluids to the most intolerable main character I have EVER seen on film. And those end credits?! REPULSIVE.
As a horror story, it doesn’t matter that there might have been some decent elements. In addition to this watch being all kinds of unpleasant, nobody could possibly wrap their mind around the reality that NOBODY would continue to film that insanity. The plot didn’t even try making an excuse for using that phone for anything other than calling for help. Absolutely ridiculous.
I'm really surprised with this rate and all these comments. Really enjoyed it. The last part is so intense and scary, I loved it!!
Let's just make every single horror movie into one and throw the "Livestream" filter on it! this is just one big old bag of turds!
It was funny and interesting at times, but it is a huge mess that leaves nothing for me to love from it. Many stupid decisions, many annoying and unrewarding characters, and many confusing decisions regarding treating others in specific ways despite the way they just fucked you over. The way multiple cliches blend together with bad, very very bad writing. The attempt at a comedy horror fails at giving off a good vibe that matches. There are many things to drag this film despite its enjoyability at times. Not rewarding or intriguing really in any way either. It's left so ambiguous and mysterious that I don't feel like tackling any theories and the questions I had regarding the material are gone after 5 minutes. I will only remember this movie because I watched it with friends. Other than that, I genuinely feel I will confuse this movie with similar ones in the future. This mess is jumbled, incomprehensible somewhat just like this review that has things thrown around. I still can't give it anything less than a 4 though due to the scenario and times where the comedy and intrigue hit. Final final thing: The shaky camera was so fucking annoying it was hard to focus on anything, especially when used 100% of the time. And the forcing of it was obnoxious as they had to constantly take the camera for no fucking reason. Bruh.
At Time of Review:
Solid 4/10
Story and Characters: 2/10
Presentation: 4/10
Enjoyability: 6/10
Like that chaotic feeling just before you fall when you're leaning too far back in your chair.
Great idea to have the central character of a horror movie be so unsympathetic: A final girl, except everyone hates her! I loved the frenetic style, I loved the twists the story took and, as the original found footage slut, I loved the found footage aspect of the flick.
Yes, sometimes the camera work was too frantic and I wish they'd found a way to include more backstory / explanation concerning the evil entity, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't like this movie, and I never lie.
This wasn't awful. It's a movie you think would be on Shudder.
This movie had some really great scenes but was ultimately let down by the main protagonist and her ott acting. She just grates on the viewer the entire movie. Also there isn't really any attempt at any answers, as to why Angela is how she is unless that small period in the house was hinting at a cult
This is by far, the hardest show for me to comment on. Most shows are just easily a good or just horrible but this one is like good but at the same time bad? Like, Annie can be hilarious because she's constantly talking shit and rapping bout sexual stuff but it just goes to a point that it's too much and that she's out of control? She doesn't know when to shut her mouth and times when they were supposed to be hiding she'd be the one yelling or talking like it's safe out there (OH! she also cusses sexually ALOT during desperate moments as if that normal)
The storyline wasn't too bad and does have some good "on the edge of your seat" moments + jump scares but unfortunately, like it's title, its those handheld recording film style and lotsa interesting moments are too shaky and blurry you can barely see what's going on. The gore and effects are pretty well done but what i mentioned above just brings the show down alot because after finishing the show, there's no explanation to all of it. Also, they seemed to rush the ending a lil because she was randomly at 214 Timberline way and then suddenly she's in a room full of people, they cut their throats and Angela was finally killed but Sem*n demon came out from her body and started chasing Annie throughout the entire house that seems to have lotsa secret passages. Then she was in the garage and Stretch's car was in there. Everything just ended so quickly and suddenly, it doesn't tell you what caused all that to happen in the first place. It's either X men missed out on recruiting Angela or some cult stuff happened XD Having said all that, it is with mixed feelings that i recommend this show to people who are considering to give it a shot. It's a hit or miss on this one depending on what kinda person you are i suppose.
This probably would have got a better rating from me(2 out of 10) but that Annie character was too much. Someone thought to make the.most obnoxious character ever and it was going to work but she took everything away from the movie. She shouldn't get another acting job.....ever.
I like tons of films with low IMDb ratings, especially easy bloomhouse horrors but this movie is junk

5/10
First without that piece of crap this movie would have been that bad it actually would have been good
Yes it's a rare one of those....
"BUT"
Oh..my..God
How fcuking annoying was Annie, she just wouldn't shut the fcuk up, I never ever wanted anyone to get got in a horror movie as much as her.
Disrespectful, disgusting, damn right deluded and a complete and utter tool.
She couldn't rap for shit and she was nowhere near as cool and badass as she thought she was.
She pissed me off and stressed me out that much it took my attention well away from actually
what was a decent messy pretty
awesome horror movie.
I just couldn't take anymore shit from Annie so I just wasn't engaged enough to enjoy the
cool messy going-on's.
If this was any other production other than BlumHouse this would definitely be a hard pass for me
without a doubt.
BlumHouse not like you to fcuk up like this and higher an annoying unbearable piece of shit like that,
but you did, and you got it so wrong this time.
Don't ever do that again to me with her.
What a waste of what could have been a decent flick
And a solid BlumHouse entry.
