Daybreakers 2010

As I rewatched this I found it started in the far off future date of Apr. 1, 2019.

An interesting twist on the vampiric horror genre, I just wish it was better executed.

I'm shocked at how little this movie is talked about. I didn't know it existed until a read an article about it this year and just watched it for the first time. So underrated! Such a cool, cool premise and I think executed to near perfection. Lots of cool ideas in here. Great actors, good gore, decent CGI, all in all a great watch. I don't seek out vampire flicks but this brought some new angles to the genre I hadn't seen before. Good stuff.

Pretty cool concept; love the futuristic aspects. Just enough blood and gore.

Ethan Hawke is only reason I watched the movie, and I made a good decision.

“I can’t even remember what it’s like to be human.”
- Edward Dalton

Not a bad vamp flick. It had its moments.

"I'm good at this. I was never very good at being human."

Vampire stories were pretty played out around this time but this movie had a fresh take on how to approach it. I wish the delivery was just a little better but overall it I liked the colors and concept of it all.

With a daring and bold vision, Daybreakers delivers a fascinating and terrifying look at a world ruled by vampires. After vampires hunt the human race to near extinction, their society starts to collapse as the blood supply runs out. Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe, and Sam Neill lead the cast and give strong performances. And the concept of the film is quite intriguing, and is used quite effectively; showing variety aspects of society adapted to the needs of vampires. Additionally, the surrealist visual style works to enhance the tone and atmosphere of the film. Daybreakers is a provocative and compelling thriller that takes the vampire genre to new and exciting places.

A real hidden gem. But the ending was botched.

That bloody bat giving me a jumpscare from the beginning to end lmfao.

Loved the world-building and gore take on the story concept!

Let's assume vampires is the next step in evolution. And let's move one step down. So...Too many people on this planet. Food crisis. Animals suffer, being cultivated with the only purpose - to serve as food, but their quantity is not able to satisfy people's current need for food. Hunger induced cannibalism, which turns people into monsters. Scientists work on creating artificial meat, but it can hardly solve the problem - there will always be someone ready to pay or to kill to have some real meat.
It is time to realize that people are animals too, and animal husbandry, therefore, is the largest crime in the planet's history. Pain and death of the first animal rights activists. Probably, this is the only serious problem with this theory (or the movie) - animal rights cannot solve the food crisis.

Am I giving to much credit to this movie by thinking of it this way?

Hailed as one of the best action-/horror-movies of the year, I was disappointed by this flick: neither the story, nor the actors or the special effects could grip me.

Therefore I can't recommend this flick, although I have to admit that it is not particularly bad: it just isn't to my taste!

The storyline was different that most other vampire movies, but it still lacked a way of interesting me too much.
