Didn't hope for much based on other reviews. Was pleasent enough with an interesting plot, felt cheesy at times but ultimately enjoyable.
rhiannon falling in love w a different person every day? big mood
Loved it. Not at all your average teenage movie. Angourie delivers a great performance even though she’s so young in this one.
Movie as an introduction to understanding the LGBT issue? Because how is it to be someone other than the rest and at the same time be yourself?
it took me a long time to watch this since i read the book as a teenager and loved it very much
i would hate to watch a bad adaptation of it
but it was really great
i recommend to watch without reading even the sinopsis
Well, I didn't expect much of this, but it was a nice little film. Surprisingly great acting throughout, other than Toronto which didn't play a good Baltimore.
The story doesn't get overly cliche or sappy, and still progresses well.
As someone who read the original book first, I wasn't sure what to expect from this film. I think they actually based it on the sequel more than the original (the original is the story told from A's perspective and the sequel is from Ri's perspective). I'm a bit disappointed we didn't get to see more from A's perspective but I guess they needed an anchor and that was Ri.
I'm glad to see there are so many positive reviews on it though, and possibly from people who didn't read the book first. I thought people would just be super confused by this story, but I'm glad it translated to film well. If you haven't read the book, I highly recommend it. It is a very interesting read and makes you think about love and being open to loving all types of people. (I haven't gotten to the sequel yet though.) I wish the movie had focused on that a bit more and portrayed Ri's struggle a bit more. I honestly didn't picture Ri as a popular, attractive girl from the way the book painted her, so I feel like they changed a lot there too.
I'm still on the fence on whether I really liked the movie or not, but I do still love the book!
This movie was really good. It was so unique and yet the perfect love story. It was very interesting to see how they covered a lot of different issues within the one movie too by jumping in and out of different people.
This movie is extremely hard to rate, as every word on the story will give away all the fun. You also probably shouldn't watch the trailer and additionally you shouldn't look up the other movie posters as they contain spoilers as well.
The only story you can know: "Rhiannon is a ~15 year old girl that is in an one-sides relationship with her boyfriend Justin. However, one day she gets to know a guy who turns around her entire life".
If you know me you also know that I don't have much love for romantic movies and romantic comedies and even less so if they are teenage romances (or romantic comedies). So it came as an absolute surprise to myself, that I actually liked this movie - which is due to its really strange and unusual story. This absurd idea makes the entire story totally interesting - however it is just revealed in the last third of the movie - two thirds you sit there and keep asking yourself what you are seeing and why you are seeing it and how this all fits together.
In the end, this isn't a classical teen romance story but touches aspects of the fantasy genre and explores a really strange kind of romance. And it's a really great idea and a great take.
There are a number of weaknesses though. Most of all, I think the movie doesn't explore it's idea deeply enough. The romance part is still the main aspect of the movie, and we get a large number of scenes that just focus on teenage romance. One could have shortened this part just a bit and instead could have gone deeper into the aspect of this personality, into the problems and into what this kind of romance actually means. It especially also has an aspect of unconventional love that could have also found a number of parallels to our modern society.
Also the story telling moves towards banality when getting towards the end, even though I liked the resolution.
To end on a positive note: The cast is really good - all of them young actors who despite lacking the experience are already great actors that probably have a great acting career in front of them.
It's not a movie that you'd had to have seen - still, anyone who loves the genre should definately watch this one as it will give you what you love but yet also give it an entirely new spin on things.
It's the Quantum Leap of chick flicks! And that is a good thing! I'm not a fan of teen romances, but the body-changing hook lifts the genre to a new level. Never as sappy or as sentimental as it could have been, this is a pretty honest flick about love and desire, as well as throwing in valuable points about sexual fluidity. It's a good film, and I have to admit, I did have a lump in my throat by the movie's end.
I don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty sure the main character was just Amy Adams with Marvel de-aging CGI
I actually didnt like this movie at all. The ending wasnt good. Especially for the particular guy who kept living day by day. I wanted a happy ending for him too. The idea of it was never closed. I feel like i got no closure. Just for that i didnt like it. I expect a better ending. The concept was not real enough for me.
#make marks#leave traces
what an interesting romantic movie.
she is awesome...
I was not expecting this movie to be so good. It really shocked me how good it was. I expected it would be just another teen romance, it was so much more. And all the questions it makes you ask and consider it does it so well, without being condescending or contrite. It really makes you think in a good way. Thank you to everyone involved for making this movie as I would never have read the book it was based on and that would have been my loss.
I just saw the BEST movie! I went to see this REALLY tired (I had just driven over 4,500 km in 4 out of 5 days and went to this movie to stay awake until it was an appropriate time to go to bed for the night). It was so much more than a young adult romance. It asked questions like: Am I defined by my shape, my gender, my colour? Have we a right to make decisions for ourselves that will compromise the ability of another to make their own decisions? What does respect or love look like and in the case of the latter does it have to have a “look”? And, finally, what would we be willing to sacrifice for the one we love most in the world and/or a total stranger? This storytelling is exquisitely beautiful. And, as one of the major protagonists is played by a number of actors the emotional tension could have easily dissipated were it not for the entirely captivating character inhabited by young actress named Angourie Rice. A wonderful journey. A new favourite movie. I give it a 10 out of 10. [Romantic Fantastic Drama]
This is just such a great "What if" concept. What if you woke up every morning in a different body, but the same age? Could be a man or a woman, black or white, but never too far away? What would you be like? And what would it be like to fall in love?
That's the story this film tries to answer. It explores different themes like what makes people different, what is the nature of love and relationships, and it's the poster child for carpe diem! If you weren't interested in this movie, by what I just wrote, walk by. If this sounded fascinating, I think this just might be the romantic film you've been looking for.
I entered the theater more than a little tired and wasn't sure I would be able to stay awake. Not only did it hold my interest, I left feeling energized and a little yearning. 8/10

This film does a great job at personifying the concept of gender and sexuality fluidity while solidifying the simple idea of soul mates all while portraying a compelling story with characters that audiences can connect with and find impressive when it comes to casting choice. That being said, it had some difficulty finding an endpoint, a finality that would differ from the rest of the film, and that unfortunately doesn't mix well with the rest of the films message. Overall pretty good romance.
