Welcome to our updated guide to the 200 Essential Movies To Watch Now! In our annual refresh, we’re sticking with the list’s original vision as a definitive source of movie guidance and education for all ages and stages, whether you’re a seasoned film buff or just starting out, while reflecting new trends and significant movies uncovered over the past year. The three films new to this iteration of the 200 Essential are The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (after a flurry of recent landmark and popular LGBTQ films, we’re shining a light on one of the best of the 1990s), Black Panther (for making leaps in on-screen representation without sacrificing any of its superhero movie obligations), and Wonder Woman (for its sheer entertainment value and re-invention of a female icon that will inspire and resonate for years and beyond).
We also completely reordered the list — it is now sorted by Tomatometer, highest to lowest. Feel free to start tackling the list with whatever is the most interesting to you first…or just start at #1 and start working your way down. We think you’ll have fun either way. The Criterion Collection is a video distribution company which specializes in licensing and selling "important classic and contemporary films" in "editions that offer the highest technical quality and award-winning, original supplements."
This is a list of all films (main feature, extra featurette, making of, box-set meta entry, etc if it has a separate entry on trakt) released under Criterion Collection catalog, Essential Art House, Eclipse, Merchant Ivory collections etc. as DVD/BluRay. The Film Fatales, a collective of women indie directors, put together a list of must-see movies made by women.
Founded in 2013 by "I Believe in Unicorns" director Leah Meyerhoff, Film Fatales is a bicoastal collective of women filmmakers who mentor and collaborate in an indie space that's far removed from the sexist world of Hollywood—and therefore all the more likely to make impact.
“At a time when audiences are hungry for a diversity of stories on screen, we’ve compiled a list of recent films directed by women that everyone should see, as well as a selection of older titles which continue to inspire us,” said Film Fatales founder Leah Meyerhoff, who shared the following list with Bitch Media.
Film Fatales in NY and LA include Meyerhoff, Eliza Hittman, Ry Russo Young, Stewart Thorndike, Marielle Heller, Leslye Headland, Sasha Gordon, Jess Weixler and Josephine Decker. Here are their picks for the best films made by women, including "Appropriate Behavior," "Diary of a Teenage Girl," "A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night," "Pariah," "Selma," and classics from Agnes Varda, Claire Denis, Kathryn Bigelow and Lynne Ramsay.

This is a complete list of every movie that has ever been included in the various editions of 1001 movies. Given that I only own one edition of the physical book, this is a easier way to keep track of what has been (once) considered essential viewing.
The 21st Century's Most Acclaimed Films serves as an ongoing companion to our listing of the 1,000 Greatest Films of all time.
The 1,000 Greatest Films list, by nature of the sources used and formulas applied - and we believe quite rightly so - leans towards films that have so far stood the so-called ‘test of time'. This listing therefore attempts to highlight and honour this century's most critically revered films and act as a sort of 'resting bay' for many great films that will, no doubt, eventually find a spot within the 1,000 Greatest Films part of our website.
This is our seventh 21st Century listing, and despite calls from followers to increase it to 300-and-beyond, for now it once again encompasses 250 films. It is primarily based on critics' year-end lists (from 2000 to 2011), plus it also takes into account mentions given to any films from 2000 onwards that show up in critics' all-time-best-of lists (that are also used for the compilation of our 1,000 Greatest Films list). Additionally, it also incorporates many best-of-the-decade lists from 2010.
