What a fun ride. I enjoyed every bit of it.
I'm not gonna lie. I initially decided to watch this because I am a complete-ist. It wasn't out of any deep desire to see it, and I had very low expectations as a result. But now, having watched it, it was a LOT funnier and more entertaining than it had any right to be, gore and all. The entire cast does a great job, but none better than Elba, who is pitch-perfect as the VERY angry and put-upon reluctant leader of this band of idiots.
This was a goofy, gory, and surprisingly fun mess of awesome. The 2 hours and 15 minutes flew by. The majority of the jokes land, the violence is appropriately bonkers, the twists neither brain-dead dumb nor too out of left field. And the cast (and guest appearances) are perfect in their roles. The action set pieces totally work and the final big bad is perfectly ludicrous. I genuinely would put this towards the top of DC's crop of superhero films and think it should be supremely enjoyable for all superhero and action fans.
I did not expect this movie to be as entertaining as it was. I had always thought Chris Pratt and the rest of the Guardians actors were the only reason those movies were so good but man was I wrong! Gunn has now taken two superhero groups that were not expected to produce blockbuster movies like the Avengers, Justice League, Fantastic Four or X-Men because of their lack of popularity and knocked them out of the park! I'd like to see what he could do with a premiere superhero team like X-Men or Fantastic Four. They both need a reboot and he would be a great choice to take one of them over!
This is what you wait to see when you hear the name Suicide Squad. It's another similar movie but It's OK. They can shoot as many of the similar movie over and over again with some changes. We'll watch to pass time...
Bloodsport: “Nobody likes a showoff.”
Peacemaker: “Unless what they showing off is dope as fuck.”
James Gunn recently said in an interview that he finds superhero movies “mostly boring” right now. Anything ranging from safe and boring or technically well-made but disposable, at best. Gunn received at bit of heat from fans for those remarks, but in some sense, he’s not wrong. Because sometimes following the same formula will eventually wear fin and more risk taking needs to happen.
And here we have ‘The Suicide Squad’, the soft reboot to the 2016 film, but this time directed by Gunn himself, where he delivers a highly entertaining movie that is bursting with creativity and ultra-violence. James Gunn once again shakes up the superhero formula with a slick style. I’m just glad DC is finally letting directors have a voice and a vision, and I hope it stays like that.
The first 10-15 minutes tells you exactly what the movie is going to be.
I just can't believe we got something like this. It's 2 hours and 12 minutes long, but it's always on the move. It’s bonkers from start till finish, and I enjoyed every minute of it. This is probably one of the best shot movies in the DCU. The soundtrack is great as well and used effectively. The action scenes were insane and made the overall experience one of the most fun I had at the cinema in a long time.
A massive improvement over the 2016 film, AKA ‘the studio cut’, is that the movie doesn’t look ugly and isn’t chopped together by trailer editors. The movie is vibrant in colours that made it look pleasing to the eye. The structure at times is messy, and yet strangely well-paced, as there’s a lot going on.
Did I mention the movie is very gory? It’s cartoonish violence, or what people call "adult superhero movie", so it's not for kiddies or for the faint of heart. You would probably guess that not everybody on the team is going to make it to the end credits, so deaths are to be expected, but how certain characters “bite the dust” are so unexpectedly gruesome and brutal, it took me by surprise each time. The marketing for the movie was right, don’t get too attached. As I said before, James Gunn had complete creative control over the movie, and he doesn’t hold back on what he wrote and show on screen. But then again, it's a movie, it's not real, the actors who die on screen are fine in real life...I think.
All the cast members have equal amount of time to shine, and you like these super villains this time around, as each character had wonderful chemistry with each other. John Cena plays Peacemaker, who can be best described as a “douchebag version of Captain America”. An extreme patriot who will do the most horrific things for liberty. John Cena excels in the deadpan line delivery for comedic effect, but surprisingly enough, worked well in the serious moments. Looking forward to the spin-off show ‘Peacemaker’.
Margot Robbie once again nails the role of the chaotic but gleeful Harley Quinn. While the character isn’t front and centre this time around, more of a side character, but whenever the character is on screen, it’s instantly memorable.
Idris Elba plays Bloodsport, a contract killer who’s doing time in prison after failing to kill Superman with a kryptonite bullet, while also dealing with family issues, especially with his daughter. While the character may sound like Will Smith’s Deadshot from the 2016 film, but trust me, the execution here is much stronger. This is by far Elba’s best work in a while. Charismatic and a strong leading presence.
Polka Dot Man, played by character actor David Dastmalchian, a socially awkward, weird, and lame sounding character that has some serious mummy issues, which has a funny running visual gag throughout. However, because of Gunn’s writing and Dastmalchian's performance, the character is more than a joke, but a unique character to watch.
Ratcatcher 2, played wonderfully by Daniela Melchior, who brought so much warmth and heart to the film. I loved how they tied in her tragic backstory into the finale, as it honestly made me cry. And let’s not forget the king himself, King Shark, voiced by Sylvester Stallone. He stole every scene he’s in, because he’s so adorable and has such kind eyes, but when he’s hungry, he can be a killing machine.
The rest of the supporting cast, even in the smaller roles, still manage to stand out amidst all the chaos. I liked Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag a lot more this time around, because the actor was given more to work with in terms of good material. Viola Davis is brilliant as the cold and ruthless Amanda Waller. And Peter Capaldi is always a pleasure to see. Also, I like the character of Weasel, who I can describe as a unholy offspring of Shin Godzilla and Rocket Racoon. He may not be beautiful to look at, but he's beautiful to me.
Like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, the movie has a lot of heart and I like how they took certain characters, who on page sound stupid and ridiculous but are handled with such love and depth, while also being self-aware of its own characterization.
You can literally watch this as a standalone movie and you won’t be lost or confused, as you don’t need to watch 22 other movies to understand it. This is by far the strongest entry in this jumbled mess of a cinematic universe.
Overall rating: Nom-nom!
this movie was worse than the first one
Gunn really took the “your mom” jokes to a new level
this movie is ridiculous and I love it
Here's what I was thinking, in order, as I watched this movie:
1. Not enough Harley
2. Slow
3. Not enough Harley
4. For an action movie, this is much too sedate
5. Not enough Harley
6. Boring plot. In fact...what is the plot?
7. Ok, Harley escapes and kicks ass to Louis Prima. Sweet!
8. Remind me again what the plot is?
9. Damn, still another hour to go
10. Remind me again what the plot is?
11. Oh. Right. A giant bubble gum coloured starfish cyclops...and some rats.
12. Wait, wasn't that Peter Capaldi earlier with the crayons sticking out of his head?
13. When did this become a Doctor Who movie?
14. Hang on, Bill the Cat wasn't a DC character!!!
14. WTF?!?!?
The movie jumped from incoherent plot point to the next with a super idiotic big villian and a super obvious ending. A random series of unevents just designed to be whacky. I tried to like this but it was hot trash
Beautifully made. Coherent and comedic unlike its predecessor. Wasn’t familiar with most of the characters but loved them nonetheless! Harley’s plot development was unexpected yet smooth. :) Epic movie. Polka Dot Man deserved better though. </3
wow...they managed to do a worst movie than the previous one, when I thought it to be imposible.
Just balls to the wall fun. A reminder of how fun superhero movies can be when a director can have actual control, do their thing, and not worry about continuity or studio branding. I hollered at Starro, teared up over some rats, laughed at Cena, and I'll watch and enjoy Elba in anything. Robbie gets some good stuff here, even if it's not Birds of Prey level. With a stellar cast, creative fight scenes, and an eye for entertainment, it's a nice remedy for the same-y superhero movies we've been stuck with.
These ratings are suspect. 7.5? The movie was puke. I fell asleep 3 times.
What the hell did I just watch ! A giant starfish ? I'm kinda numb at how bad this was compared to the original.
This film was kinda a mess but I still really enjoyed it. There was kind of no structure, it was very predictable, and a lot of characters had very forced in backstory exposition. But the film had charm, and that held it all together. As long as you like the characters, you'll like the film.
Also Polka-Dot Man is incredible and I love him.
An unremarkable movie with little substance for me. I was simply bored. Characters died unremarkable deaths and it was kind of a slog to get through. For all the issues the first one had, it was entertaining enough to watch. I personally didn’t feel like I wasted that time then. With this one it’s completely a waste.
This movie is so laughably bad  honestly, only watch this if you have time to kill and you hate yourself.
Couldn't even get through this movie...turned it off after about 50 minutes and have ZERO regrets.
this movie takes every absolutely stupid and ridiculous superhero trope and subverts it into something entertaining and nonstop fun. is it a masterpiece? not really, but then again no comics movie is (unless it's into the spiderverse then fuck you it's perfect and gamechanging and has a superhero pig how dare you). but it's pure entertainment, for a straight two hours and some change. even in the emotional moments and brutal gore scenes, this movie is a cinematic delight.
i hope this and the success of snyder's dc entries show producers that good directors know what they're doing. let them do what they fucking want, pay their immensely skilled and underappreciated teams to make the final cuts look the way they've been envisioned, and you'll get people watching your content.
like the only reason i'm still paying for hbo max every month even during a career switch is for the ability to see people get to make this kind of shit.
Couldn’t believe how bad this movie was
I thought it was fun in a way. However... I cannot forgive the laziness in tying all the skits/bits together. It needed a lot longer to bake in the writers' room. Not a good "film", but has some bits/gags you'll appreciate as a fan.
I'm impressed with how good this film turned out. It's better than the prequel
I have to give John Cena his flowers; his acting skills has improved drastically since his first film 12 Rounds.
This was a bad circus act.
No plot, forced jokes which not landed.
A cast like this, what went 'in the wrong direction', it hurts your eyes.
I think I was drugged, cause the movie I saw was a way different as the people who overrated this freakshow.
Even Harley could not save this mess.
'In memorial' you better watch the 2016 version (again). If you like to spent your time we'll.
what James Gunn has against birds, he killed a shitload of them in this movie
Honestly great freaking film
I didn't have much expectations but this really surprised me
I loved the direction James Gunn took with this film, the characters were weirdly working well together and made me actually care about them
Also they way this film was directed feels refreshing, loved the camera panning and zooming in & out.. also the tags he puts within the environments were cool and made the film feel organized like it has chapters
Lastly one of the highlights of the movie is that it was gory and very bloody.. James Gunn made sure it's an R rated film by also including some unnecessary nudity LOL
not to say it didn't have some downsides like how useless The Thinker was in this and didn't do much but overall the movie was fun and didn't take itself seriously so in my book it did what it wanted to achieve
An entertaining ultra-violent smorgasbord of mayhem.
Although more meaningful dialogue between characters would’ve been appreciated, one must understand that this a real ‘Suicide Squad’ film. Idris Elba killed it as Bloodsport and it was awesome to see a different side of his acting chops. More time with King Shark would’ve been great, especially if he had been more frequently paired with Harley Quinn. Margot Robbie is always perfect as Harley Quinn.
While I know this is a James Gunn movie, I found his selection of songs for the soundtrack overbearing and sometimes undermined the tone of a scene. The score by John Murphy was pretty great though.
This film really makes me yearn for a much needed Harley Quinn sequel, especially one together with Poison Ivy.
A disgusting piece of garbage.
What the f*** did I watch?
I honestly wish I could step back in time and not spend my money at the theater to see Suicide Squad. Don't get me wrong, it had its moments, but they were far and few between for me to care. For me, the best parts contained Harley and some of the movie seriously lacked Harley. Bloodsport and Rat Catcher 2 weren't bad, but don't get attached to basically any other character. I think I'm still scratching my head over that big bad at the end. I mean, really?
And I'm so glad that someone stood up to Amanda Waller, but do I feel sorry for those agents now. She's going to kill them, isn't she?
The Suicide Squad has so many f*cked-up and morally bankrupt storylines in the comics and that's what they could come up with?!? A search & destroy mission that a single bomber aircraft could've accomplished?? JFC
Unsurprisingly, Harley Quinn has the most ridiculous plot armor throughout the movie. "Bloodsport" is just Deadshot played by a different actor, has nothing in common character-wise with Bloodsport (Robert DuBois) from the comics. And they ruined the Thinker.
[7.7/10] There’s a subreddit called “Am I the Asshole?” where misguided souls deign to ask the internet to resolve their social situations. Devotees submit a brief discussion of some interaction that blew up in their face and let the crowd decide whether or not they’re the jerk in the situation. Participants can vote “yes” or “no” on the question, decide that no one’s at fault, or simply say there’s not enough information to decide. But the final option is “ESH” -- everyone sucks here.
The Suicide Squad is “Everyone Sucks Here: The Movie”. An amoral government agency uses criminals to cover the crimes of their country. A first world nation uses a third world country to do terrible experiments that citizens would detect and reject if it happened on American soil. The criminals pride themselves on their ability to kill indiscriminately, turn on one another, and sell each other out on a dime. The leaders of the South American nation are various flavors of dictator, ready to use backroom deals or doomsday threats to stay in power or make the rest of the world take notice. The misfits sent to prevent that from happening are total fuck-ups with ample blood on their hands. The people handling them cravenly take bets on who will survive.
The D.C. Universe is known for its heroes as demigods -- idealized paragons of nobility, if not always virtue. They are wholly absent here. Instead, this movie is devoted to the unapologetic shitheels at every level, dealing death for reasons personal, practical, or political, under no pretense that it’s for the greater good.
But in a strange way, that’s also its charm. Writer-director James Gunn was a natural fit for a Suicide Squad sequel. His Guardians of the Galaxy movies were another needle drop-filled tale of a motley crew finding their hearts of gold, something the 2016 Suicide Squad seemed to be emulating. But in this 2021 release, he takes the scrappier, shaggier elements of his rough-around-the-edges crew and turns them up to eleven.
This is not a bloodless romp where our heroes have shady pasts but seem a little cuddly and lovable from the jump. This is a bloody, dirty, blackly comic outing, where even the best members of Task Force X are murderers without compunction who lack the warmer qualities of their other superheroic counterparts. There’s an honesty to The Suicide Squad. It would be too much to call it a deconstruction of the modern age of superhero films. But it is almost refreshingly frank about what an ugly business caped adventuring would be away from adoring crowds and instead ensconced in extralegal coups and cover-ups.
And yet, the movie doesn’t fall prey to the same grimdark sturm und drang that the weakest D.C. Extended Universe films are mired in. The Suicide Squad isn’t a movie that aims to rub its audience’s nose in the grim and grittiness of it all. It’s one that spackles a movie steeped in rampant bloodshed and pointing a finger at the excesses of American hegemony with a man who shoots multicolored polka dots at a world populated by vivid hallucinations of his mother.
For as uncomfortably real as this movie gets at times about the grisly business of criminals and foreign intelligence operations, it’s also suffused with whimsy and imagination. Gunn and company pause the bullet fire and bloodshed for scenes like King Shark hopping along with multi-colored fish who mimic his silhouette. Harley Quinn fancies herself a princess and reimagines a viscera-soaked hallway fight as a Snow White-esque cornucopia of tweeting birds and swirling flowers. Bloodsport lands and plummets multiple times through a tall building like he’s Homer Simpson joining the Stonecutters. Timing and locations are displayed diegetically in smoke and blood and toilet seat scum. The climactic end sequence features a ten-story tall starfish being felled by a combination of colorful spots, an army of rats, and a fabled javelin to the eye from a clown in a prom dress. Despite its frankness about the unpleasantness of this mess, The Suicide Squad is ridiculous, comic book-y, and fun.
It’s also funny, albeit juvenile, walking the line that Gunn and his collaborators boogie over so well. His latest release is a DTV splatterfest action flick blown up to blockbuster scale and maintains the distinctive tone and character of his Troma roots.
Characters drop frequent f-bombs and wax rhapsodic about eating “bags of dicks.” There’s a transgressiveness and sense of exaggeration to Bloodsport and Peacemaker getting into a pissing match over who can craft the most elaborate kills (of what turn out to be their allies). And Margot Robbie continues to steal the show as Harley Quinn, following up her excellent turn in the underappreciated Birds of Prey with the comic sprightliness and uncouth M.O. that wraps over a recognizable humanity. Make no mistake; this one is dark, but it finds laughs black enough to work in the shade.
Although the film features plenty of good setups and payoffs, it does come off a bit sweaty and lumpy at times. There are more characters than you can shake a stick at, and even as many of them are killed off in the first twenty minutes, keeping up the momentum and focus as the film jumps across time and space becomes a challenge for the movie. Still, this is often because Gunn takes time out from the plot for random, endearing interludes where the nogoodniks get down together at a bar. It pauses for inventive fight sequences like the aforementioned slanted Harley Quinn Disney homage or a bout of pugilism reflected in a shiny helmet. Gunn rarely takes the most direct route between events, but that low key, ambling vibe to the piece is a feature, not a bug.
And yet, it’s ultimate thrust is clear. For all the over-the-top goriness, sophomoric humor, and the unflinching look at both the miscreants who would be deemed expendable enough to send on suciide missions and the heartless folks who would deploy them in the name of truth and justice, Gunn does inject some of that ragged heart that buoys his films. It’s not subtle, but Bloodsport forms a paternal bond with Ratcatcher 2, and eventually earns his way into his own daughter’s good graces. More to the point, more than a few members of Task Force X do the right thing when they don’t have to, when it’s against orders and could get them killed when an important line is crossed -- cruelty to children.
Rick Flagg, the sole noble supervisor involved in managing the Squad, rejects his orders when he learns his government was complicit in experiments on kids. Those in the employ of Amanda Waller (with the unsinkable Viola Davis once again making a lot out of a little) stop their leader with physical force when they think of the young and innocent who will die if her orders are followed. The members of the Suicide Squad thesmelves choose to stick around and fight to protect children, both those of others and their own.
It’s telling for a film that implicitly questions America’s place in the world, conceived at a time when even defenders of the then-current administration voiced criticism for the White House’s child separation policy. The litmus test for whether you’re a good person in The Suicide Squad isn’t your willingness to take lives or your criminal record; it’s whether you’ll sit idly by when kids’ lives and well-being are at risk. For all their other faults, the key members of the team won’t. With that, despite being a movie whose premise is theoretically a team-up of villains, it’s never shy about letting you know who the real bad guys are.
Our antiheroes show a streak of decency and bond from the experience of standing up for something when they could just as easily declare it not their problem. As much as this movie revels in the unrepentant cruddiness of all its players, both major and minor, it spares some affection for its ruddy group of ill-met scoundrels. As a figure from the past sums it up, if there’s a place in the world for the lowly rat, so too is there a place for them as well. Everyone sucks in The Suicide Squad. But when presented with a chance to do real good -- not because it’s the job but because it’s the right thing to do -- some of these rat bastards suck a little less.
If this is supposed to be the good one I'm glad I dodged the 2016 movie, and this is the best thing I can say about this mess of a movie
Personally, i think i was lied to, they told us that the movie was awesome, but it was just 'nice', which is the worst compliment for a movie that was hyped up so much. Sure, few great action scenes here and there (which is honestly nothing i haven't seen before) but no cast chemistry, no real stakes, do not care at all about the story, and worst of all, no fuckin humour, i mean all the jokes used were in the friggin trailer. I mean tried to convince myself that maybe I'm wrong, maybe it really is as good as they say, but it's not, for me at least.
It's easy to compare James Gunn's Suicide Squad to 2016 Suicide Squad, but I would say that it's closer to Deadpool or Deadpool 2, minus the fourth wall breaking, plus the stylish visuals. The film is R-rated due to excessive blood, gore, and death - and just like Deadpool's X-Force, expect lots of deaths in this film, sometimes even (or perhaps especially) for comedic effects. So don't hold too dearly to those characters and casts.
In spite of the violence and comedic galore, at times the film still manages to put some stake in between the action/violent/comedic sequences. Nothing too serious, but enough for a action blockbuster that would make the tense rises up a little bit. The films also tries to bond the characters a little bit well in some banters, and the pacing works well between comedic and character moments (unlike the 2016 film).
James Gunn was right when he said superhero movies have been too formulaic (looking at you, MCU) so it's quite nice he managed to pull this off. However, considering the Deadpool-ish similarities, I hope Gunn is not in the process of setting up a new formula himself.
It was good but the first one is better
Here is where I'd insert the "Confused Travolta GIF".
There are a few Gore/action moments I enjoyed, but how is that this movie has an 8+ vote ? How ?
I agree with those who say that it is a good mix Guardians of the Galaxy and Deadpool. Has post-credits scene
Star of this movie: SEBASTIAN!
James Gunn's The Suicide Squad is a sequel of sorts to the 2016 movie Suicide Squad, which was both a box office success and an Academy Award winner, but widely criticized by audiences. However, this new version directed by Gunn is an improvement in every aspect, retaining the energy, color, and music of the original, but with more authenticity and less theatricality. The action sequences are bigger, bloodier, and better choreographed, the characters are more engaging and even the villains are more captivating. Gunn has used a diverse and unique set of characters from the DC universe and they have become the heart of the movie, with standout performances from David Dastmalchian as Polka Dot Man, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher 2, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, John Cena as Peacemaker, and Margot Robbie returning as Harley Quinn. Even Stallone's King Shark is noteworthy. While the story is a familiar one, the characters, sharp writing, and effective humor make up for it. The Suicide Squad is a good example of a movie that gets the basics right and adds more to it. The movie has some of the best action sequences of the year and also has some surprising emotional moments. It's a highly enjoyable cinematic experience.
James Gunn needs to see a therapist.
They actually did it. I did not believe they could pull it off, but they did. This reboot is even dumber than the original.
Definitely not a cinematic masterpiece, but this rendition honestly was fun to watch. It doesn't take itself too seriously at any point and I think that works in its favor here.
A refreshingly fun and then enjoyable movie. Clever humour that did not take away from the more serious aspects of the movie.
All the key characters were well written allowing them to have distinctive motivations and personalities. I am hard pressed to pick a favourite.
The pacing was consistent with a well structured conclusion that made this a satisfying movie to watch.
One of the best movies of this style I have seen in a long time. I strongly recommend it.
Well the first 15 minutes are entirely pointless other than to show us humanity is despicable.
Sending out people to suicide is one thing, making bets and being happy over them dying is another.
Gets better after that, but I’m getting annoyed at little things. Like why do we see the only woman in the camp doing the dishes? Unnecessary.
Other than that, pretty enjoyable humour. Like the cavalry coming riding when Harley had it all under control. Her training acrobatics paid off. Could totally see her having fun, just killing people to the soundtrack in her head.
Not sure why I enjoyed that little moment where Bloodsport crashes against the wall and his helmet broke.
And rats are cool and powerful in numbers and all, but why would people just instantly die as soon as they have a few rats walk over them. Like they don’t seem to be biting or anything, simply running. But ok. The way the squad dealt with the mf kaiju was pretty neat. Everyone had a role to play. Except the weasel and peacemaker. They were both useless.
Another incarnation of the Dirty Dozen with a specific humor. What more could you possibly want from a twisted action movie? :)
All in all, I enjoyed this movie.
King Shark is hilarious with his childlike antics and mentality. The ongoing competition between Bloodsport and Peacemaker is brilliant and leads us wonderfully into some very Tarantino-esque splatter-friendly kill scenes.
Introductions to the characters’ backstories helps delve into their psyches and why they are as broken as they are.
Another wonderful portrayal from Margot - although a shame they removed her Rotten tattoo on the cheek. But on the flip side, a nice nod to how she no longer belongs to Joker on the shoulder tat.
I feel that Clifford Devoe didn’t really include much thinking so felt a touch let down by that character.
I was utterly surprised by how much I loved Polka Dot Man.
101 how to make money fast without a good script.
First one was really good, this one, only to create content for merch.
2021 and you guys want to rescue an IDE?? Really?
The only thing good was the apperance of Polka-Dot Man, Starro and Thinker, one of the original Injustice Society group, but you guys already kill all...
I couldn't watch for more than 1 hour.
This was really super super bad…
Good potential ruined by giving 200 million dollars or whatever this movie cost to a bunch of infantile. Jokes were gradeschool level and the villain... I won't spoil it you have to see it to believe it
I don't even know where to begin… There are times that you watch a movie and your first impression is "so bad it's good" but this definitely wasn't one of those films. The dude is no Oscar-winning A-lister but even John Cena could have done far better than this steaming turd. Guardians of the Galaxy was bad enough with the raccoon but here we have (1) a weasel (that looks like something out of The Dark Crystal more than an actual weasel) and then (2) a shark that talks (admittedly, its vocabulary is somewhat limited but still), is dumb as a box of rocks, and (3) walks around on legs that are sporting a ripped-up pair of pants, a la The Incredible Hulk . Oh, and the shark is apparently impossible to kill, much like the aforementioned Hulk. A volley of machine gun fire that rips him to shreds, a building falls on his head, yet moments later this "shark" - that can somehow walk around on legs AND breath air - pushes his way out of the rubble, much to the dismay of the soldiers who had just put him down. He (Shark) then manages to bite one soldier's head off, whereupon the decapitated head - still held in Shark's teeth - continues to roll its still-very-much-alive eyeballs around as if to say, "What's going on? Where am I? How did I get here?"
Yeah...from start to finish, this entire movie was THAT bad. Throw in a battle against a giant starfish - a STARFISH, for crying out loud - that "walks" around smashing buildings, cars, people, and simultaneously spitting out baby starfish from its "armpit", and you have the height of lunacy. While I'm not (and never have been) a fan of DC Comics or the DCU, I still occasionally see the articles where James Gunn is "under attack" for firing Henry Cavill, changing Superman, blah blah blah, yada yada etc etc etc. Hear me: if The Suicide Squad is any indication of the talent of James Gunn, you people have a lot more to complain about than who plays (or doesn't play) the role of Superman. This has to rate as one of the worst wastes of my time; I've watched some stinker movies in my day ( Flesh-Eating Mothers , Chopper Chicks from Zombie-Town , etc) but this... This was pure stupidity. Bad from start to finish: Bad script, bad plot, bad story, bad acting, bad dialogue, bad idea, bad EVERYTHING. This movie just plainly blew chunks. What a waste of my time. Absolutely awful.
This movie is trying so hard to be edgy/quirky and it comes off so hollow it's unbearable. The aesthetic style doesn't stand out enough and lacks the cohesion found in Gunns Guardians movies, which this is obviously copying the homework of. Nothing really gels together once the hyperviolence has worn out its shock value, leaving only a few jokes that land throughout the whole runtime. It's a decent, braindead-entertainment movie, but it's so devoid of individual flair that it almost feels like you're watching a fake hero movie that's featured as a joke in a real hero movie. I did enjoy Polka-Dot Man, Ratcatcher and King Shark though, so I'm sort of sad we won't see further appearances of those characters now the DCEU is being rebooted once more.
This has granted me the privilege of watching the Peacemaker TV show though, so hopefully that'll redeem this mediocre fest of a movie.
Hot garbage, The Suicide Squad goes wrong almost from the start and only get worse as it goes along. The plot is convoluted as all get-out with one mission turning into another and then another and then another. And the characters chosen for this new Suicide Squad are some of the dumbest and most idiocy in the DC catalog (and most of them aren’t killers). Margot Robbie and Idris Elba both deliver strong performances, but the rest of the cast is pretty weak and don’t have much charisma. Still, some of the comedy works and there are a couple of exciting action scenes. The Suicide Squad has a couple of spired moments of crazy zaniness, but it’s mostly just stupid and not funny.
Abner I love you so much
It's a chaotic and fun. Margot's Harley is getting a bit old, but I did enjoy Peacemaker, Bloodsport and King Shark a lot. I don't think the story is much better than the original, but as a whole the movie is different, funnier and more over the top that the other one. That makes it a solid watch.
Gets off to a bit of a rough start but really ended up loving this film by the end. John Cena also stole the show in my opinion.
James Gunn does know how to direct a superhero movie.
Really enjoyed this one. Was worried Gunn would go full Marvel with the laughs but it balanced well and funny too.
Had total Plague Tale vibes from Cleo and totally adore King Shark
Episode 10x03
When DC nails it, it is said and period! The hand of James Gunn shows a lot in this crazy, bloody and epic story. Diverse characters and crazy situations elevate the latest from Warner-DC to the category of great success.
I wanted to love this, especially with the addition of acting skills of Elba. But it was short of expectations. DC continues to struggle with plot lines for the less known characters. If they can't find true DC comic fans to help bring these to life, there's really no point. The writing just fell away badly. In short, it's not a Marvel lesser known character movie that will draw you in. It's lacking that umpf.
Utter and total garbage, couldn’t finish it
It is absurd and fun. Too much blood. Strange plot. It seems like a serie B movie with a lot of money.
Wow the part was worse than expected
When the jokes get better and worse at the same time. Parts of it have very solid jokes, fun moments, creating a good time. While at the same time it totally reeks from trying WAY too hard to make absolutely everything funny.
This is what you get when you let the Joker perform a Harley-Quinn style electro-shock therapy to the cast, writers, and director. Clearly somebody was off their meds in the making of this film... I just wouldn't say it was totally a bad thing.
Solid fun! Hilarious at times! Better than the first previous ones! 7.5/10
While marvel is blowing our minds multiverse and what if, dc releases this ... movie, Harley Quin and ... mostly no one else canon, on an off grid island, call it a filler if you wanna be honest, Young justice and dc animation doing amazingly great, and all we get from high budget projects, is ...
To much of a kids movie for my taste, "jokes" and comedy worthy the Nickelodeon Channel. Nice action and acting saves it from a lower grade.
James Gunn did better than i thought he would with this.
Not sure why I watched this all the way till the end, but I regret it now.
What a waste. Why do they even still make dumb movies like this, why do people pay to see this?
honestly, I love hero movies, but they're tiring and boring, but I think James Gunn knows how to make a good hero movie. I think The Suicide Squad was kind of a test, people are ready for violent hero movies? I hope so, because this is one of the paths to be followed to differentiate the genre. the movie is still not perfect, but much better than the "first", I think that by rewatching it could become one of my favorites
Suicide Squad 2 - James Gunn Unleashed - Finally DC Should Step Out Of Their Own Way - Someone Who Made Guardians Of The Galaxy A Fantastic Series Of Movies As Well As Avengers Endgame Everyone Knew That He Was The Right Choice For Suicide Squad And Its A Hell Of A Fun Movie - Nothing From The Plot Is Given Away And Even I Was Entertainingly Confused How The Characters Were Being Killed Off
A Blockbuster - Ridiculously Entertaining With Amazing Visuals - It Didn't Feel Like A Crappy DC Movie - It Felt Like A Damn Fun Band Of Misfit Super Hero Movie Who You Can't Help But Love - Suicide Squad Delivers In Spades & Shouldn't Be Missed
DC Should Step Out Of Their Own Way And Stop Screwing Up Their Movies - And I Can't Wait For Suicide Squad 3 And Hoping That Dead Shot Will Come Back - I Love King Shark From The Movie - A Hilarious Character
Yet another summer blockbuster stolen by the wrestler in the cast! Not as fun as Guardians of the Universe, but big upgrade from the previous attempt at Suicide Squard. Had Harley Quinn still been a novelty, the movie would be a gem, but she is getting a little played out at this point. Not sure I'm up for more with this bunch, but it improves the DC side of the ledger at long lost.
Good in bits and pieces.
Doesn’t hold up as a single thing.
Massive, massive improvement over the first suicide squad movie. Deffo needs to be watched. Characters with their own storytelling, the action and the twists. Only turn off is that people were just dying out of nowhere.
But overall, great movie. 8/10
The movie's got some cringy humor, some crass humor. And it was pretty much all over the place. Overall it was fairly enjoyable and its got very good moments. It's just forgettable, sadly.
was fortunate enough to watch in IMAX, enjoyed every bit of it.
Fucking hell…. 8/10 :boom:
Well definitely an improvement from the other one and a lot more comedy and action with some super effects and sound cast but it did have it’s small moments/ cheese when the energy drops but picked back up in no time but yeah it was a fun film to watch and definitely worthy a place in my DC collection.
Yep... the best DCEU movie so far. Entertaining to say the least and good action too. The only problem is that movie by movie the connection between them is stupidly outrageous. Every director his own decisions and ruined the univers. By the way, if any of them did half of James Gunn work the DCEU would be enjoyable.
This was just a LOT of fun! You can tell everyone in this movie just had a lot of fun making it. Definitely better than Suicide Squad.
Best bits: Harley Quinn, T.D.K., King Shark, "Mom"
Worst bits: Peace Keeper's attitude ...and the fact that somehow that character is getting it's own TV show - I hope that character has a huge personality change between now and then
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
ummm no .. just ..no ._.
ngl im here completely comparing it to the first part n this one is so shameful sorry not sorry
the beginning was a disaster ... i almost turned it off right that moment n i wish i did :)
the characters were ridiculous :| all clowns even the handful ones from part 1 got soft like the hell ???
comedy were over the top even if it was laughable but this ain't a stand up show cmn
what's up with the overdone gore ? too much blood from a small cut ? ppl getting smashed to pieces by a small bump ? sliced like a watermelon ?? too much no ? it's an action r8 ? not a bloody horror :")
meh overall judging it as a separated movie it was fine like a 6, but compared to the real suicide squad this one is a very cheap ugly sequel, it was only tnx to Harley Queen who cared the whole show
pliz don't maks any other parts anymore enough.
"Hey, hey! He's not a werewolf, he's a weasel! He's harmless! I mean, he's not harmless, he's killed 27 children, but, you know..."
John Cena as Peacemaker was the most enjoyable for me and finding out he's getting a tv show, count me in!
All in all James Gunn's version of the Suicide Squad is a more enjoyable ride then the one that came before. Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, Peter Capaldi and John Cena are all great. I enjoyed the humor, loved seeing Killer Shark thanks to the Harley Quinn cartoon, the scene at the beginning was freaking brutal. Loved seeing Gunn mainstays Fillion and Rooker! The soundtrack is a fun one and the movie never bores you.
But unlike most of the Marvel movies and Batman, I don't know if they are doing the source material any justice. So I can't rate it against that. But I do believe it did what it set out to do. And that is being a damn enjoyable movie.
So, James Gunn should have been running the DCFU all along. This is wonderful.
Didn't expect to get a nod and a wink to Cabin in the Woods from this movie.
A good movie that is a lot of fun even though it‘s a little too gory for my taste.
Well. That was fun. I knew Idris Ilba was a great actor, but did not expect such a strong performance here. Outstanding.
The level of action and violence was pure entertainment. Lots of Gibbs and bodies just exploding thanks to its R rating.
It’s not my favorite DC film, but def worth a watch.
A pretty wacky and insane ride with the cast giving their all. King Shark is like the Groot of the movie, you don’t want to see anything bad happen to him.
Holy crap! I was laughing the entire time. James Gunn is genius!
While this is a very fun movie, it is also James Gunn kind of doing an impression of himself and fulfilling the promise of the original Suicide Squad’s first trailer that promised a DC Guardians of the Galaxy. I almost would have liked it more if it was another filmmaker doing their own version of Guardians. The cast is very good but the movie feels longer than it needs to be and the humor doesn’t hit as hard as it should and the needle drops are a bit in your face, but I would still recommend it, just keep the expectations in check.
I saw this in a private screening thanks to Warner Spain. I believe this is an improvement to the previous installment of the franchise. Just so everybody knows, it has all the elements and characters to give you the feel that it’s a sequel without being a sequel. James Gunn took what worked in SQ and gave it more color. Think of this film as the over-the-top violence that you’ve always wanted to see in Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s got comedy, blood, jokes, and the chemistry between the characters is fantastic. Each one has their moment to shine and show their skills.
My least favorite character was Harley, maybe because there wasn’t much development or that her scenes were a bit shoehorned. The music was quite inconsistent, I know it’s a Gunn trademark but with Guardians there’s more consistency and coherence.
John Cena’s Peacemaker has some hilarious moments, as well as King Shark… they were my favorites.
The movie is quite enjoyable and the action is a visual feast with all the graphic violence you’d expect from the Suicide Squad.
Like a good date night, there were a lot of climaxes.
I, for one, really enjoyed this film and can unreservedly recommend it. However, don't forget I'm the only person on the earth to include the first Suicide Squad on a Top 10 of 2016 list, so...
I loved Suicide Squad and liked The Suicide Squad, but found this one a little too traditional for my tastes, even with all the climaxes.
Why do we need another suicide squad movie?
Pete Davidson is in this movie then this is a hard pass for me. Everytime I see his face I want to punch it.
so much Deadpool but not Deadpool
Is it better than the first film? Yes. Is it the best movie within the DCEU? Quite probably, yes. Does it live up to the hype? Mostly. James Gunn certainly has a flair for anarchy and comic book action, and for the most part, the movie is a blast. It weakens every time it slows down, especially during scenes that are unnecessary to the plot. However, the action and humour prevalent throughout the rest of the movie ensures a good time overall.
2:15 hours of my life I can't get back!!! What the F*** was that garbage? One of the worst movies ever. Should have stopped after the first Suicide Squad 2016, which was a wonderful thrill ride. Only enjoyable character was Margo Robbie's "Harley Quinn". All the other "Characters" were lame, especially King Shark and other sea life. lol. Glad I didn't waste any money on this S***.
The first one sucked. Why this one exists is beyond me. Start making movies ppl want to see. Voltron, More Superman, Batman, an actual GOOD joker movie.
The dudes who give the green light to movies in Hollywood need to all be fired. They don’t know what the fuck they are doing.
Less of this shit. Again, this movie is shit.
Margot Robbie is a shit actress. Yes she is pretty. But I’m tired of watching what she calls acting. Joel kinnaman is just as bad on the male front. His over acting ass needs to be stopped.
John Cena is the worst thing to ever happen to movies. Like the rock, but with absolutely no acting ability. An ape with muscles.
at least will smith isn’t in this one
Was it perfect? No. Was it worth watching? Yes. The story as a whole was good. My main problem was that it bounces back and forth a few times. I felt like this took me out of the movie and threw the overall pacing off. At the end of the day, it was good but I'm not dying to sit down again and rewatch it anytime soon.

On the surface this film is about a group of people who have been labelled “villains”, working together to save the world. But really, this film is about one man and one man alone, he isn’t strong, but yet he defies all odds and sacrifices his life to save his friends. His only power is his bravery, he is the driver of the van and the main character of this film, Milton.
