Why do we need another suicide squad movie?
On the surface this film is about a group of people who have been labelled “villains”, working together to save the world. But really, this film is about one man and one man alone, he isn’t strong, but yet he defies all odds and sacrifices his life to save his friends. His only power is his bravery, he is the driver of the van and the main character of this film, Milton.
Bloodsport: “Nobody likes a showoff.”
Peacemaker: “Unless what they showing off is dope as fuck.”
James Gunn recently said in an interview that he finds superhero movies “mostly boring” right now. Anything ranging from safe and boring or technically well-made but disposable, at best. Gunn received at bit of heat from fans for those remarks, but in some sense, he’s not wrong. Because sometimes following the same formula will eventually wear fin and more risk taking needs to happen.
And here we have ‘The Suicide Squad’, the soft reboot to the 2016 film, but this time directed by Gunn himself, where he delivers a highly entertaining movie that is bursting with creativity and ultra-violence. James Gunn once again shakes up the superhero formula with a slick style. I’m just glad DC is finally letting directors have a voice and a vision, and I hope it stays like that.
The first 10-15 minutes tells you exactly what the movie is going to be.
I just can't believe we got something like this. It's 2 hours and 12 minutes long, but it's always on the move. It’s bonkers from start till finish, and I enjoyed every minute of it. This is probably one of the best shot movies in the DCU. The soundtrack is great as well and used effectively. The action scenes were insane and made the overall experience one of the most fun I had at the cinema in a long time.
A massive improvement over the 2016 film, AKA ‘the studio cut’, is that the movie doesn’t look ugly and isn’t chopped together by trailer editors. The movie is vibrant in colours that made it look pleasing to the eye. The structure at times is messy, and yet strangely well-paced, as there’s a lot going on.
Did I mention the movie is very gory? It’s cartoonish violence, or what people call "adult superhero movie", so it's not for kiddies or for the faint of heart. You would probably guess that not everybody on the team is going to make it to the end credits, so deaths are to be expected, but how certain characters “bite the dust” are so unexpectedly gruesome and brutal, it took me by surprise each time. The marketing for the movie was right, don’t get too attached. As I said before, James Gunn had complete creative control over the movie, and he doesn’t hold back on what he wrote and show on screen. But then again, it's a movie, it's not real, the actors who die on screen are fine in real life...I think.
All the cast members have equal amount of time to shine, and you like these super villains this time around, as each character had wonderful chemistry with each other. John Cena plays Peacemaker, who can be best described as a “douchebag version of Captain America”. An extreme patriot who will do the most horrific things for liberty. John Cena excels in the deadpan line delivery for comedic effect, but surprisingly enough, worked well in the serious moments. Looking forward to the spin-off show ‘Peacemaker’.
Margot Robbie once again nails the role of the chaotic but gleeful Harley Quinn. While the character isn’t front and centre this time around, more of a side character, but whenever the character is on screen, it’s instantly memorable.
Idris Elba plays Bloodsport, a contract killer who’s doing time in prison after failing to kill Superman with a kryptonite bullet, while also dealing with family issues, especially with his daughter. While the character may sound like Will Smith’s Deadshot from the 2016 film, but trust me, the execution here is much stronger. This is by far Elba’s best work in a while. Charismatic and a strong leading presence.
Polka Dot Man, played by character actor David Dastmalchian, a socially awkward, weird, and lame sounding character that has some serious mummy issues, which has a funny running visual gag throughout. However, because of Gunn’s writing and Dastmalchian's performance, the character is more than a joke, but a unique character to watch.
Ratcatcher 2, played wonderfully by Daniela Melchior, who brought so much warmth and heart to the film. I loved how they tied in her tragic backstory into the finale, as it honestly made me cry. And let’s not forget the king himself, King Shark, voiced by Sylvester Stallone. He stole every scene he’s in, because he’s so adorable and has such kind eyes, but when he’s hungry, he can be a killing machine.
The rest of the supporting cast, even in the smaller roles, still manage to stand out amidst all the chaos. I liked Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag a lot more this time around, because the actor was given more to work with in terms of good material. Viola Davis is brilliant as the cold and ruthless Amanda Waller. And Peter Capaldi is always a pleasure to see. Also, I like the character of Weasel, who I can describe as a unholy offspring of Shin Godzilla and Rocket Racoon. He may not be beautiful to look at, but he's beautiful to me.
Like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, the movie has a lot of heart and I like how they took certain characters, who on page sound stupid and ridiculous but are handled with such love and depth, while also being self-aware of its own characterization.
You can literally watch this as a standalone movie and you won’t be lost or confused, as you don’t need to watch 22 other movies to understand it. This is by far the strongest entry in this jumbled mess of a cinematic universe.
Overall rating: Nom-nom!
I really need to find my remote to turn this off. Probably the worst film I've ever seen. I have also seen Lake Placid.
RIP Milton, you will be remembered...
It is absurd and fun. Too much blood. Strange plot. It seems like a serie B movie with a lot of money.
Am I the only one who prefers Suicide Squad (2016) over this? I find TSS unnecessary, a waste of time, and tries too hard to be funny. I also didn't like that they replaced Deadshot with Bloodsport, I know it's not really a replacement per say, but then again the characters are so similar you can't help but compares them. Even their names sound alike.
Fans of James Gunn are so quick to say that TSS is better than SS because they like films he directed but I'm glad that I watched both SS and TSS before I judged for myself. I'm a huge fan of superheroes movies but unfortunately this film will be a one-time thing. Never again.
The first one sucked. Why this one exists is beyond me. Start making movies ppl want to see. Voltron, More Superman, Batman, an actual GOOD joker movie.
The dudes who give the green light to movies in Hollywood need to all be fired. They don’t know what the fuck they are doing.
Less of this shit. Again, this movie is shit.
Margot Robbie is a shit actress. Yes she is pretty. But I’m tired of watching what she calls acting. Joel kinnaman is just as bad on the male front. His over acting ass needs to be stopped.
John Cena is the worst thing to ever happen to movies. Like the rock, but with absolutely no acting ability. An ape with muscles.
at least will smith isn’t in this one
A fun, entertaining, superhero movie made for adults and not crying Twitter babies? Did I wake up in the twilight zone? It's hard to believe it after all the trash movies that came out this year. DC is on a roll recently, and I hope they will continue like this.
The most fun, most 'Rated R' of Super Hero/Villian movies (way more than Brightburn). Cast was great.
First time I've seen John Cena in a movie and he was fantastic.
Can't say much else without spoilers.
Best Parts: Bloodsport actor, Capaldi, Polka dot guy, Harley.
Worst parts: every stereotype from every comic. Too violent.
Here's what I was thinking, in order, as I watched this movie:
1. Not enough Harley
2. Slow
3. Not enough Harley
4. For an action movie, this is much too sedate
5. Not enough Harley
6. Boring plot. In fact...what is the plot?
7. Ok, Harley escapes and kicks ass to Louis Prima. Sweet!
8. Remind me again what the plot is?
9. Damn, still another hour to go
10. Remind me again what the plot is?
11. Oh. Right. A giant bubble gum coloured starfish cyclops...and some rats.
12. Wait, wasn't that Peter Capaldi earlier with the crayons sticking out of his head?
13. When did this become a Doctor Who movie?
14. Hang on, Bill the Cat wasn't a DC character!!!
14. WTF?!?!?
this movie was worse than the first one
I saw this in a private screening thanks to Warner Spain. I believe this is an improvement to the previous installment of the franchise. Just so everybody knows, it has all the elements and characters to give you the feel that it’s a sequel without being a sequel. James Gunn took what worked in SQ and gave it more color. Think of this film as the over-the-top violence that you’ve always wanted to see in Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s got comedy, blood, jokes, and the chemistry between the characters is fantastic. Each one has their moment to shine and show their skills.
My least favorite character was Harley, maybe because there wasn’t much development or that her scenes were a bit shoehorned. The music was quite inconsistent, I know it’s a Gunn trademark but with Guardians there’s more consistency and coherence.
John Cena’s Peacemaker has some hilarious moments, as well as King Shark… they were my favorites.
The movie is quite enjoyable and the action is a visual feast with all the graphic violence you’d expect from the Suicide Squad.
Thank god jared leto wasn't in this one
ain't no way niggas saying this is worse than the original :skull:
for a superhero movie, this is a really good movie.
Idiots are brilliant. The best fun is usually had with idiots. The meaning of life is most certainly not intellect. James Gunn also loves idiots - he knows they are experts at enjoying themselves, and more importantly he knows that makes them a perfect vehicle for a superhero movie.
A while back, when I attempted to watch a bunch of MCU films (I didn't make it very far), I remember James Gunn's work on 'Guardians of the Galaxy' being the most exciting thing about the entire binge - the movie as a whole was still nothing amazing; I could only appreciate it in the context of its much inferior Hollywood superhero siblings but I liked the comedic and drastically more lighthearted tone to the whole thing because that shit worked!
This new Suicide Squad film follows that light tone again and focuses on a group of childish idiots much like 'Guardians' did but feels more standalone, and feels even more James Gunn which is, of course, a good thing.
"I love the rain. It's like the angels are smooching all over us."
Perhaps it is still a sibling of sorts but it's absolutely the lone wolf of whatever family it's a member of, and one of the best superhero movies ever.
This was good shit. Forreal. I'm impressed.
James Gunn and Zack Snyder should be the only two making these movies right now.
Simply unwatchable. Lousy direction and, Elba and partially Robbie aside, reaaaaaally bad acting.
:heart::heart::heart::heart::heart::heart::heart::heart: - This film has lots of twists and turns It leaves you hanging on the edge of your seat. RecommendHere's how
my rating system works:
10:heart:- Masterpiece :100:
9:heart:- Excellent
8:heart: - Amazing :ok_hand:
7:heart:- Great :sun_with_face:
6:heart: - Good
5:heart: - Average :head_bandage:
4:heart: - Bad but watchable :octagonal_sign:
3:heart: - Bad :sob:
2:heart:- Awful :face_vomiting:
1:heart: - Bull Shit
This could have been so very good. Great cast, interesting story potential.
Failed execution across the board.
Gore and bad words can’t replace plot and dialogue.
So sad
It was so enjoyable and entertaining. I laughed all the time, fantastic interaction between the actors. Very good gore scenes and surreal scenarios and moments. This was pure fun!
Viola Davis unlikable and unbearable as always.
Who is Milton?
Shark shark is so cute
Now that’s more like what I imagine from a Suicide Squad movie. Bloody, violent and unpredictable but ultimately a squad composed of people who want to do the right thing, even with their faults. The characters are all good. We’ve got a good idea of their ambitions and problems, and having them clash which each other or help each other was satisfying to see.
James Gunn is very good at delivering what he wants to tell with heart. There was a great balance between addressing serious topics and being not as serious and opting for more colorful visuals. I also really liked how time or event descriptions like “8 minutes before” were presented creatively. It gave the movie style. I’m a bit sad about some characters dying (like Flag) but it is what it is. This is the suicide squad after all - There have to be consequences.
8,5/10
Plenty of blood, gore and F-bombs. That sums up this garbage, along with how many ways can you kill someone - I'm guessing more than 200 were used.
0/10
I don't even know where to begin… There are times that you watch a movie and your first impression is "so bad it's good" but this definitely wasn't one of those films. The dude is no Oscar-winning A-lister but even John Cena could have done far better than this steaming turd. Guardians of the Galaxy was bad enough with the raccoon but here we have (1) a weasel (that looks like something out of The Dark Crystal more than an actual weasel) and then (2) a shark that talks (admittedly, its vocabulary is somewhat limited but still), is dumb as a box of rocks, and (3) walks around on legs that are sporting a ripped-up pair of pants, a la The Incredible Hulk . Oh, and the shark is apparently impossible to kill, much like the aforementioned Hulk. A volley of machine gun fire that rips him to shreds, a building falls on his head, yet moments later this "shark" - that can somehow walk around on legs AND breath air - pushes his way out of the rubble, much to the dismay of the soldiers who had just put him down. He (Shark) then manages to bite one soldier's head off, whereupon the decapitated head - still held in Shark's teeth - continues to roll its still-very-much-alive eyeballs around as if to say, "What's going on? Where am I? How did I get here?"
Yeah...from start to finish, this entire movie was THAT bad. Throw in a battle against a giant starfish - a STARFISH, for crying out loud - that "walks" around smashing buildings, cars, people, and simultaneously spitting out baby starfish from its "armpit", and you have the height of lunacy. While I'm not (and never have been) a fan of DC Comics or the DCU, I still occasionally see the articles where James Gunn is "under attack" for firing Henry Cavill, changing Superman, blah blah blah, yada yada etc etc etc. Hear me: if The Suicide Squad is any indication of the talent of James Gunn, you people have a lot more to complain about than who plays (or doesn't play) the role of Superman. This has to rate as one of the worst wastes of my time; I've watched some stinker movies in my day ( Flesh-Eating Mothers , Chopper Chicks from Zombie-Town , etc) but this... This was pure stupidity. Bad from start to finish: Bad script, bad plot, bad story, bad acting, bad dialogue, bad idea, bad EVERYTHING. This movie just plainly blew chunks. What a waste of my time. Absolutely awful.
James Gunn's The Suicide Squad is a sequel of sorts to the 2016 movie Suicide Squad, which was both a box office success and an Academy Award winner, but widely criticized by audiences. However, this new version directed by Gunn is an improvement in every aspect, retaining the energy, color, and music of the original, but with more authenticity and less theatricality. The action sequences are bigger, bloodier, and better choreographed, the characters are more engaging and even the villains are more captivating. Gunn has used a diverse and unique set of characters from the DC universe and they have become the heart of the movie, with standout performances from David Dastmalchian as Polka Dot Man, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher 2, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, John Cena as Peacemaker, and Margot Robbie returning as Harley Quinn. Even Stallone's King Shark is noteworthy. While the story is a familiar one, the characters, sharp writing, and effective humor make up for it. The Suicide Squad is a good example of a movie that gets the basics right and adds more to it. The movie has some of the best action sequences of the year and also has some surprising emotional moments. It's a highly enjoyable cinematic experience.
This movie is trying so hard to be edgy/quirky and it comes off so hollow it's unbearable. The aesthetic style doesn't stand out enough and lacks the cohesion found in Gunns Guardians movies, which this is obviously copying the homework of. Nothing really gels together once the hyperviolence has worn out its shock value, leaving only a few jokes that land throughout the whole runtime. It's a decent, braindead-entertainment movie, but it's so devoid of individual flair that it almost feels like you're watching a fake hero movie that's featured as a joke in a real hero movie. I did enjoy Polka-Dot Man, Ratcatcher and King Shark though, so I'm sort of sad we won't see further appearances of those characters now the DCEU is being rebooted once more.
This has granted me the privilege of watching the Peacemaker TV show though, so hopefully that'll redeem this mediocre fest of a movie.
Hot garbage, The Suicide Squad goes wrong almost from the start and only get worse as it goes along. The plot is convoluted as all get-out with one mission turning into another and then another and then another. And the characters chosen for this new Suicide Squad are some of the dumbest and most idiocy in the DC catalog (and most of them aren’t killers). Margot Robbie and Idris Elba both deliver strong performances, but the rest of the cast is pretty weak and don’t have much charisma. Still, some of the comedy works and there are a couple of exciting action scenes. The Suicide Squad has a couple of spired moments of crazy zaniness, but it’s mostly just stupid and not funny.
Abner I love you so much
James Gunn needs to see a therapist.
This is what I expected from a Suicide Squad movie. Not that 2016 crap.
I cannot help wondering if the writer of this movie was on a LSD trip or something when he wrote it. It is over the top crazy, weird and outrageous. It is also incredibly gory. It is a super hero / bad guy comedy with emphasis on comedy. I was thinking comedy version of Kill Bill (for the gore and killing) with supers in it when I was watching it.
I have to say that I enjoyed watching it though.
The movie makes absolutely no pretense of being taken seriously. The “heros” are outrageously wacky and so are most normal persons in the movie. The plot is just as wacky as the characters and this is a movie in which the normal ludicrous and illogical plot twists that the Hollywood hacks usually comes up with actually feels right for the movie.
I got a bit of a what the f… moment at the beginning when the movie had but started and everything went to hell right away. That was before I had realized how much of a comedy this movie really was supposed to be. If there is a sane moment in this movie I missed it.
If there was one thing I didn’t like about the movie it was the liberal use of jumping back and forth. I hate this “24 hours earlier…” bullshit or any permutations thereof.
I also really didn’t like the “It’s the evil US government conducting illegal evil experiments and we’re supposed to cover it up” story line. It just typical Hollywood overused crap.
I did like the action though. As I wrote before it is ridiculously gory and very very comical. So is a lot of the dialog which of course is as crazy and weird as the rest of the movie. In any other movie as large shark with legs walking on land saying “yum yum” and then eating someone, repeatedly, would be just cringeworthy. In this movie it actually works.
The movie is 2 hours 12 minutes long and it really did not feel too long. It was 2+ hours of fun entertainment.
The post credit scene was a bit lame though. Not at the same level as the rest of the movie.
The Thinker should not have been offed the way....
not as good as the original suicide squad movie, but ok.. the weasel is terrible though just like jar jar binks
Hilariously entertaining! Pretty gory, but is made lighter by the accompanying comedy. Really well done.
Reading the comments here and I cannot believe how many people think this is worse than the first one. Wow. To each their own but for me the 2016 one was extremely boring and mediocre in every way, I can't even remember if I finished it so this is a major, MAJOR improvement.
Visually I have nothing to complain, the characters are fun and likeable, the emotional moments definetely work, the action is cool and Ratcatcher 2 might be the love of my life. I have small issues with the plot and there's some lame jokes & lines but otherwise this is a very good movie in my eyes!
Very strange that a Hollywood film is so blatantly truthful about what the USA is like.
3/10
I WOULD RATHER SUBMIT MYSELF TO A PROSTATE EXAMINATION THAN SIT THROUGH THIS POINTLESS BORING PIECE OF CRAP MOVIE AGAIN.
I TELL YOU NOW I NEED
MORE MARGOT ROBBIE
AKA HARLEY QUINN IN MY LIFE OTHER THAN THAT
DC SUCKS.
MORE THAN A FAN
ALWAYSTHATMARVELGUY
3/10
The 2016
Suicide Squad is a 9/10
And is absolutely super frickin awesome amazing and so much fun and is cool as Hella.
This version Jesus what a horrible boring stupid pointless grind and a complete waste of my time. The best thing about it as always was
Harley Quinn and they totally sidelined her for
95 percent of the movie.
Really this movie definitely needed to put it all on Harley she would have definitely carried it much better to the finish line,
Margot is that awesome and that cool and that amazing she would have done wonders for this piece of crap movie.
I can't stand John Cena, he can't act and he boils my blood because he's so fake and so Wooden and full of crap and he thinks he's so funny and he's just not.
I absolutely loved Ratcatcher 2 she was awesome and blood sport but sadly they could not make this shit movie anything else other than it be a shit movie.
I mean what the Hella did I sigh up for with this, it's
2h 12m of my life I ain't never going to get back.
Horrible Trash that's what this is right here,
It's up their with
The Batman
Wonder Woman84
X FINAL THOUGHT
This movie was boring stupid to the point of annoying and made
Birds of paradise look like a masterpiece. It wasn't funny at all and it wasn't fun at all but at least I have
The Suicide Squad 2016
Which is super Awesome
And definitely blows this peace of Garbage clean
out the water.
This movie would be a
1/10 if not for Harley and Ratcatcher 2/Blood Sport.
This Trash should have never ever been made.
Give me another
Margot, Harley Quinn movie next time.
DC Warner Brothers and their movies/universe are shocking and so bad and boring and pointless and are such a grind to the point they are nearly unwatchable. What do they have against fun and a good time,
even having an awesome time,
But no they keep turning absolute shit out like this.
And that's why I'm
THEE MARVEL Guy
Not boring old rubbish
DC
(They should be ashamed of themselves for turning utter Garbage out like they keep doing
movie after movie after movie.)
Not really my cup of tea, I never liked Harley or John Cena for a fact, so this was not for me. At least better than the '16 version, I give it that.
It's a chaotic and fun. Margot's Harley is getting a bit old, but I did enjoy Peacemaker, Bloodsport and King Shark a lot. I don't think the story is much better than the original, but as a whole the movie is different, funnier and more over the top that the other one. That makes it a solid watch.
They actually did it. I did not believe they could pull it off, but they did. This reboot is even dumber than the original.
A disgusting piece of garbage.
Definitely not a cinematic masterpiece, but this rendition honestly was fun to watch. It doesn't take itself too seriously at any point and I think that works in its favor here.
Gets off to a bit of a rough start but really ended up loving this film by the end. John Cena also stole the show in my opinion.
James Gunn does know how to direct a superhero movie.
A refreshingly fun and then enjoyable movie. Clever humour that did not take away from the more serious aspects of the movie.
All the key characters were well written allowing them to have distinctive motivations and personalities. I am hard pressed to pick a favourite.
The pacing was consistent with a well structured conclusion that made this a satisfying movie to watch.
One of the best movies of this style I have seen in a long time. I strongly recommend it.
Well the first 15 minutes are entirely pointless other than to show us humanity is despicable.
Sending out people to suicide is one thing, making bets and being happy over them dying is another.
Gets better after that, but I’m getting annoyed at little things. Like why do we see the only woman in the camp doing the dishes? Unnecessary.
Other than that, pretty enjoyable humour. Like the cavalry coming riding when Harley had it all under control. Her training acrobatics paid off. Could totally see her having fun, just killing people to the soundtrack in her head.
Not sure why I enjoyed that little moment where Bloodsport crashes against the wall and his helmet broke.
And rats are cool and powerful in numbers and all, but why would people just instantly die as soon as they have a few rats walk over them. Like they don’t seem to be biting or anything, simply running. But ok. The way the squad dealt with the mf kaiju was pretty neat. Everyone had a role to play. Except the weasel and peacemaker. They were both useless.
This was supposed to make up for the first one, which wasn't horrific but not perfect. I went into this with low expectations because the previous one wasn't hard to top but this one.......hmmmm
Starts off with the senseless killing of a bird, which I didn't quite understand or like. It didn't contribute to the plot, and with the public being stupid, there is no doubt someone is going to try to do that.
The plot is a bit weird, as in, its not clear for major parts of it, but then when you figure out whats going on, its nothing groundbreaking or even interesting.
Basically, bad guys get sent on a mission, half die at the beginning, the rest continue. They kill their allies, eventually get told what their mission is, it makes zero sense, evil commander threatens death blah blah blah. Nobody cares
The one thing I did like was that the most obscure and ridiculous "villians" were chosen, versus the stereotypical Captain America or whatever. The rat girl irritated the hell out of me and although technically saved the day, she had no real power since all she did was frigging doze off and turn on a light switch. Polka dot man made that movie though with the sarcastic, miserable comments, he was brilliant.
Overall I preferred the first one. there was way more action, whereas this was more of a slow burn and it was easy to get distracted from it. When I saw that giant starfish, I laughed, because it was the most ridiculous thing I had ever seen. It was such a letdown.
I'm not gonna lie. I initially decided to watch this because I am a complete-ist. It wasn't out of any deep desire to see it, and I had very low expectations as a result. But now, having watched it, it was a LOT funnier and more entertaining than it had any right to be, gore and all. The entire cast does a great job, but none better than Elba, who is pitch-perfect as the VERY angry and put-upon reluctant leader of this band of idiots.
It's easy to compare James Gunn's Suicide Squad to 2016 Suicide Squad, but I would say that it's closer to Deadpool or Deadpool 2, minus the fourth wall breaking, plus the stylish visuals. The film is R-rated due to excessive blood, gore, and death - and just like Deadpool's X-Force, expect lots of deaths in this film, sometimes even (or perhaps especially) for comedic effects. So don't hold too dearly to those characters and casts.
In spite of the violence and comedic galore, at times the film still manages to put some stake in between the action/violent/comedic sequences. Nothing too serious, but enough for a action blockbuster that would make the tense rises up a little bit. The films also tries to bond the characters a little bit well in some banters, and the pacing works well between comedic and character moments (unlike the 2016 film).
James Gunn was right when he said superhero movies have been too formulaic (looking at you, MCU) so it's quite nice he managed to pull this off. However, considering the Deadpool-ish similarities, I hope Gunn is not in the process of setting up a new formula himself.
This is what I hoped for for the first Suicide Squad.
Really enjoyed this one. Was worried Gunn would go full Marvel with the laughs but it balanced well and funny too.
Had total Plague Tale vibes from Cleo and totally adore King Shark
Another incarnation of the Dirty Dozen with a specific humor. What more could you possibly want from a twisted action movie? :)
Episode 10x03
When DC nails it, it is said and period! The hand of James Gunn shows a lot in this crazy, bloody and epic story. Diverse characters and crazy situations elevate the latest from Warner-DC to the category of great success.
I wanted to love this, especially with the addition of acting skills of Elba. But it was short of expectations. DC continues to struggle with plot lines for the less known characters. If they can't find true DC comic fans to help bring these to life, there's really no point. The writing just fell away badly. In short, it's not a Marvel lesser known character movie that will draw you in. It's lacking that umpf.
Utter and total garbage, couldn’t finish it
Suicide squad yet again saves DC and proves that DC can overtake Marvel if there are more movies like these.
Super hero movies are not just about powers and fighting aliens it can be so much FUN with gore, violence like this one.
Thank god they did not end characters like Harley, bloodsport and king shark!
Unfortunately we would not see CENA again! You can’t see me goes in vain as YOU WILL NEVER SEE ME!
Simple plot of taking down an enemy with lots of blood made it work Watching, we want a bloodsport and deadshot movie soon!
Maybe my expectations were too high, but I'm not a fan of The Suicide Squad. I mean, everyone sung its praises when it came out, and if you compare it to the 2016 movie, yeah it's better than that heap of trash. I kept waiting for it to get better, but I gave up on that about halfway through.
Don't get me wrong, the action is good, and I really liked some of the characters. Polka Dot Man and King Shark really stand out, and the relationship between Bloodsport and Ratcatcher 2 was the best part of the whole movie; it gave the movie some heart.
Speaking of hearts and the liquid that pumps through it, I wasn't a fan of the extremely visceral gore littered throughout. Might be a personal preference, but as fine as I am with blood in action movies, I can't stand the over-stylized gore of people's heads exploding or being ripped off, and bodies being torn in half. It's pretty disgusting, and it's too much for me.
And I like stylish cinematography as much as the next guy, but there were some... interesting cuts and camera movements that really took me out of the movie. Also, why was that one shot when they get to Jotenheim overexposed? Was that a "stylistic choice", too?
And I need to say it somewhere, but John Cena was my least favourite part of this whole experience. Most of his line delivery was odd, like it was his first time acting or something. His character oftentimes frustrated me. Peacemaker is a bad person and, for some reason, it almost seems like it wasn't just an act for Cena. I'm disappointed that he gets to have a spin-off TV show, and not any of the other more interesting characters.
A lot of my complaints with this movie come from my personal preference, though. I wouldn't tell anyone not to watch this, but I wouldn't watch it again unless I watched it with someone else.
Im not gonna said that it was a good film but it is incredible better than the first one. It is a dumb movie for killing time and ridiculous, but ridiculously entertaining and that is the point of these kind of movies.
Pretty awesome but story was not good for me...
Kills and action was awesome also acting :)
Hilarious, gory, action-packed and absurdly fun to watch film.
James Gunn's masterpiece. Daniela Melchior stole the show with her amazing performance. She's gonna be the next big thing! (PORTUGAL CAR****)
the time to DCEU shine, has begun
we belive in SnyderGunnVerse
Wow the part was worse than expected
When the jokes get better and worse at the same time. Parts of it have very solid jokes, fun moments, creating a good time. While at the same time it totally reeks from trying WAY too hard to make absolutely everything funny.
This is what you get when you let the Joker perform a Harley-Quinn style electro-shock therapy to the cast, writers, and director. Clearly somebody was off their meds in the making of this film... I just wouldn't say it was totally a bad thing.
Solid fun! Hilarious at times! Better than the first previous ones! 7.5/10
definitely a upgrade from the first suicide squad movie
suicide squad is a franchise that really needs a hard R rating and we definitely got that this time around
this movie is extremely stylized with a lot of dark humor and some super gory over the top action
the tone does start to shift towards the final act of the movie starts getting much more serious which isn't necessarily bad but does make the movie feel pretty uneven
overall this is a great movie to watch with the boys with some beers and what not
Couldn’t believe how bad this movie was
It works better as a comedy than as a superhero movie. In the middle of the fireworks there is a good character build (even King Shark!). The most interesting is the devotion to the comic aesthetic, the construction of a universe that refers to the original characters but at the same time is very personal. An irreverent and trash fantasy that can only be understood thanks to Gunn's beginnings in the Troma factory.
While marvel is blowing our minds multiverse and what if, dc releases this ... movie, Harley Quin and ... mostly no one else canon, on an off grid island, call it a filler if you wanna be honest, Young justice and dc animation doing amazingly great, and all we get from high budget projects, is ...
wow...they managed to do a worst movie than the previous one, when I thought it to be imposible.
To much of a kids movie for my taste, "jokes" and comedy worthy the Nickelodeon Channel. Nice action and acting saves it from a lower grade.
James Gunn did better than i thought he would with this.
Pulpy, ludicrous, and sardonic superhero film that is absolutely perfect for its main characters. Everything that happens is patently ridiculous, but at the same time, coherent with the self-aware atmosphere of the film. More than telling a story, it’s all about triggering the interaction between characters and connecting the highest possible number of iconic scenes.
However, while the visuals, direction, and editing are constantly exuberant and inventive, many verbal jokes fell flat. The themes and characters are also too dangerously close to Gunn’s works with Marvel. Same outcasts with a golden heart, same structure of the team, same cinematography, etc. The only significant differences are the uncontrolled use of gore and the fact that almost no character is immune to collateral damages. With its own personality, “The Suicide Squad” could actually become the better, more mature alternative to the “Guardians of the Galaxy”, but for now, Gunn is still playing it safe, sticking to an already proven successful formula.
King Shark is the Groot of the DCEU, but better
fuck my mother!
holyshit this is the best! :joy:
bloodsport,peacemaker,shark best ever :joy:
The movie is really front loaded. It started off really good with good laughs and great action but got duller as it went on.
The first half was witty and interesting, fun things happened all the time but the last half got slower by the minute. I think it would have benefited of cutting it down a half an hour or so to keep the momentum up.
The ending lacked the great showdown i was hoping for and i felt a little robbed when the ending credits started.
The characters were fun but almost all the character development happened in the first half of the movie witch made them feel flat. Even Margot Robbie seemed to only give an unusual 90% of her, in other movies, fantastic Harley performance.
For me it was a solid 9 at the start but ended in an anticlimactic 5. I give it a 6 overall. It's better than the other Suicide Squad movie but that is not hard to achieve. I don't regret seeing it but would not see it again.
Not sure why I watched this all the way till the end, but I regret it now.
What a waste. Why do they even still make dumb movies like this, why do people pay to see this?
"I think liberty's just your excuse to do whatever you want."
I am so glad that Suicide Squad got another chance at shining because this was more of what I was wanting from the first one. This actually had heart and the action is pretty awesome. James Gunn hit this one out of the park.
All in all, I enjoyed this movie.
King Shark is hilarious with his childlike antics and mentality. The ongoing competition between Bloodsport and Peacemaker is brilliant and leads us wonderfully into some very Tarantino-esque splatter-friendly kill scenes.
Introductions to the characters’ backstories helps delve into their psyches and why they are as broken as they are.
Another wonderful portrayal from Margot - although a shame they removed her Rotten tattoo on the cheek. But on the flip side, a nice nod to how she no longer belongs to Joker on the shoulder tat.
I feel that Clifford Devoe didn’t really include much thinking so felt a touch let down by that character.
I was utterly surprised by how much I loved Polka Dot Man.
I hate it when the sequel cannot match the original. This movie is not a bad watch but I think they were more focused on making this a comedy, which took away much of the action going on. The first suicide squad film was definitely much better to me.
For Taika Waiting atop Torre dos Clérigos!
What the f*** did I watch?
I honestly wish I could step back in time and not spend my money at the theater to see Suicide Squad. Don't get me wrong, it had its moments, but they were far and few between for me to care. For me, the best parts contained Harley and some of the movie seriously lacked Harley. Bloodsport and Rat Catcher 2 weren't bad, but don't get attached to basically any other character. I think I'm still scratching my head over that big bad at the end. I mean, really?
And I'm so glad that someone stood up to Amanda Waller, but do I feel sorry for those agents now. She's going to kill them, isn't she?
8,5.
in twenty minutes, James Gunn has proved the brilliance of his craft.
Did I expect to like King Shark that? Nope, but he has all my heart. Would have love to see more of Flag and Harley's relationship. Following the steps of Patty Jenkins, Cathy Yan, Christina Hodson and David Sandberg, Gunn is giving a mush needed new breeze to the DCEU
This movie restored my faith in DC.
Couldn't even get through this movie...turned it off after about 50 minutes and have ZERO regrets.
honestly, I love hero movies, but they're tiring and boring, but I think James Gunn knows how to make a good hero movie. I think The Suicide Squad was kind of a test, people are ready for violent hero movies? I hope so, because this is one of the paths to be followed to differentiate the genre. the movie is still not perfect, but much better than the "first", I think that by rewatching it could become one of my favorites
What I wanted more from this movie:
- I really liked the more of a comic atmosphere the introduction to characters made in 1st one whn they've just written the powers of characters, I was really missing it here
- how the hell we didnt have any interactions between Harley and Nanaue?!!! I miss them from Harley Quinn animation
- more atmosphere making music.... I only acknowledged one song and it was during the end credits, I didn't hear anything elseduring the movie
What I liked:
- am I shipping Flag with Harley now? They could have a really nice friendship
- still funny tho not that funny as the 1st one
- Harley didnt disappoint
- Nanaue stole every scene he was in
- I didnt expect to like any of the new characters excluding my Nanaue but I am fond of Ratcatcher now
What I didnt like:
- I felt like there was more of a mission than individual characters in this
- the chemistry bewteen characters was lacking soooo much comparing to the first instalment, in this one I remember only the girl, Idris Elba and Flag
- Idk if it's just me or I cannot see Bloodsport I only see Idris Elba, maybe bc withwill Smith I didn't see that many movies with him so I could see him as his character but Idris Elba is Idris Elba for me and I watch anything with him really
- I watched it for 3 characters and theyve killed two of them................. really you had to kill Flag after him being so nice and kind here?
Thanks James Gunn, you did it! Probably this movie is on my top 3 best movies of DC (just behind Dark Knight and Joker). The editing of this movie is awesome, they are lame and they know it, so they make fun of it, the timing of the jokes is perfect, nobody is more serious than what the movie need and this is incredible. Another great thing is the screen time of the characters, it's very well divided. This is the Suicide Squad that I wanted!
It was good but the first one is better
It's an acid trip, but it's a fun acid trip? I loved the Scott Pilgrim vibes with the bold text that incorporated itself into scenes to dictate time jumps. It just seemed like a DC movie that everyone involved finally truly had some fun with. Does this mean I should finally go and watch the 2016 Suicide Squad? Eeeehhhhh...
Better than the first movie but thats about it.
It was all good, but Starro appeared and it became into a bad episode of the power rangers
An unremarkable movie with little substance for me. I was simply bored. Characters died unremarkable deaths and it was kind of a slog to get through. For all the issues the first one had, it was entertaining enough to watch. I personally didn’t feel like I wasted that time then. With this one it’s completely a waste.
Well this was a big step up from the original. More adult, more funny and yet had surprising emotional pulls. Unlike other DC films, this is bright and hits its mark more times than it misses.
Some of the lines are a bit cheesy and the plot is ridiculous but I don't mind that. I had fun from start to finish and hoe other DC films take note.
PS - please delete all record of the first film which is a car crash of a film but did at least bring us Harley Quinn...
Didn’t love it but didn’t hate it like I did the first one . At this point I think DC should give up on their movies
Forget Brightburn , forget will Smith, forget monster movies, forget zombie movies, forget the season 2 of jack Ryan, forget the episode 15 of season 2 or season 5 of the flash, forget the guardians of the galaxy., forget that john cena is going to be on summerslam and, most of all, remember why you loved the 1st suicide squad. The humour, hardcore action, emotional ending and the best ever action scenes with Harley Quinn makes this an incredible and far superior movie than its original was. Only the mind of genius would combine king shark separating a man in two and a giant star fish destroying buildings with the sweetness of ratchet:pound_symbol:2 and Idris Elba overcoming his fear of rats, on a movie that in reality is about freedom and our relationship with authority.

Pete Davidson is in this movie then this is a hard pass for me. Everytime I see his face I want to punch it.
