Barry: Season 4

4x08 wow

One of the most bittersweet finales I’ve ever seen. Loved it. Farewell Barry, you’ll be missed.

So odd watching this back to back with Succession's last episode, both are prime examples of the different types of dark humor. I honestly always hated Gene Cousineau and I did die when its revealed he's serving life in prison for everything Barry did. Cousineau's diva behavior led to his downfall and it's tragic but funny. Barry became a star, sadly not for his acting but the fictional story told through film. The ending is funny and seeing his son smile at the end of the movie does feel like it thematically fits, these characters were always wrapped under make believe because reality was bleak and in the end, it's better to stay in the make believe than accept reality's hardships. And Jim Cummings is GOAT.

It felt like something was missing, I would've loved if they could've added at least two more episodes to explore all these events, the season was full of time skips which I despise in any show and the whole show felt rushed, somewhat sad for a show this great to end this way imo

It felt rushed. They wrapped things up in 15 minutes and the rest was a flash forward to a Sally play and a spoof movie? No.

The thing with the last season of Barry, despite being a good one, it's that I think the series has said more meaningful and done more creative in previous seasons. While there's a interesting take there at the end, I think it really lacked a bit more to say about everything else.

actually evil of them to air this the same night as the succession finale im so empty right now

I’ll turn myself in….Oh wow.

All loose ends tied up and all correct... A very ambitious final season with a lot of twists and turns (kind of amazing how much they fit into just 4 hours), yet I wish they had a little more time so that all the character beats and payoffs felt earned. Ultimately, even a rushed version of this story is way better than many other shows out there, but the severe mood whiplash between seasons 1-3 and season 4 does leave me at a loss of how to feel at the end.

Did Bill Hader go hard in the paint in depicting the desensitization to fictional violence and the romanticization of fictional criminals in a silly comedy about a hitman trying his hand at acting? Yes. Did he beat you over the head with his message by turning this final season into a murky disillusionment soup? Absolutely. And I'm glad he did because, though it may not be the most satisfying watch, it is thought-provoking and different. I'm glad shows like Barry exist and are allowed to be creative and experimentative.

I still had so high expectations after everything that we got before but it's always very hard to deliver a great finale. In this case it was just rushed and felt flat. With or without this episode the show is the same. It doesn't feel like it brings any value other then letting you know that the show is over.

I don’t get the hate for this episode. I thought it was a very satisfying ending. i don’t think it felt rushed. Everything in this show always turned on a dine and so did this. Wow! Is a great way to put it all. I am sad this show has to end but it was a great and wild ride. Very rarely do you experience acting and/or writing as fantastic as this these days. Especially in something original. I will now eagerly anticipate anything Hader has up his sleeve next. Thank you for your service!

This has to be the best, most perfect of finale's to a show as dark and as humorous as this that I've had the pleasure to watch. It didn't beat around the bush. Each beat had a purpose. Then how can the hands grenade not get a mention. Most rightly so... WOW!

Boring end to a boring season.

Wow is right. Wow that such a great show could end with 10 minutes of pure shit.

loading replies

What kind of nonsense ending is that?

Feeling melancholy as the credits rolled, I opened up this app, saying to myself “wow”.
Realising the episode title I laughed knowing this show was truly a gift.

Not a fan of the whole series. I said it before and say it again: never watched a series with so many unlikable characters. In fact, there wasn't one that i would want to had a good ending. Sally's character in particular, is one of the worst one i have seen at least in 5 or 6 years. I really don't know what the fuss was all about with this series, i felt it boring, repetitive and, like its characters, unlikeable. And this final season i think is the worst. The random time skips, the dead-end subplots. I don't know, i just didn't like anything. I even disliked that Sally had a "good ending" contrary to the rest. I will not recommend this series to anyone

Oh wow:anguished:, right as Barry walked in and we saw gene get the gun I was on the edge of my seat waiting O_o

Bill Hader is an incredible writer and director and show creator

The perfect ending to a damn near perfect show. It felt like every main character got the ending they earned - even if they didn't totally deserve it.

what a lazy ending to a lazy season

Ioniq 5 Spotted near the end of the episode in the parking lot as Sally is hopping in her car after the play.

Oh yeah the ending was wild. banger show.

Watch Barry they said. It's a "comedy" they said.

What a rollercoaster ride this series has been.

Ending was satisfying but a little boring needed more thrill.

after having a few days to think about the ending, i’m pretty satisfied with how it ended. bill hader managed to subvert our expectations and literally make us say “wow.” hate it or love it, this was a solid show I enjoyed from start to finish and several characters had satisfying endings in my opinion, breaking the themes of cycles throughout the show. (fuches acknowledging he is a bad man, barry deciding to do the right thing even tho it was too late, sally breaking free of toxic/abusive men). all in all, this season was not my favorite but ended the show in a very “barry” way.

I thought that was a pretty smart way to end the show, I had no expectations going in unlike with succession. The brevity and simplicity of it struck me as a good way to wrap up. The movie at the end pointing a finger at Hollywood whilst also acknowledging that some people don't need the truth, they need comfort.

I imagine it's not the ending some people wanted but I still think it was handled well.

Loved it. This is how to end a series. The season itself was actually rubbish for the most part, just done very little for me, but this was superb; the comparison to a soldier, the reversal, very little time wasted on messing about with the whole kidnap/bait situation, and the moment of Gene acting right as he was to be out of it but blown by his own rash stupidity, it all hit a lot of spots for me. Jim playing Barry in the 'movie' was a nice little cherry on top!

“Oh wow”

I wish the finale was more than 30 minutes really.
