First appearance of Glory and I already find her annoying.
Such a good episode! I like this show more with the addition of the lovely Michelle Trachtenberg as Dawn.
First, we have that scene where Buffy performs the witchcraft and sees Dawns picture flickering in and out. Touchingly done. Next, we get the introduction of Glory, whose such a better adversary than lackluster Adam. The monk and Gellar both do remarkable acting jobs here. Finally we have that most hilarious scene with Spike smoking outside Buffy's house, stalking her because she appeared in his dreams.
Buffy: “What are you doing here? Five words or less.”
Spike: “Out. For. A. Walk....Bitch.”
Buffy: “Outside my house at night? No-one has time for this, William.”
Spike: “On your merry way then. Contrary to one self-involved world view, your house happens to be directly between parts and other...parts of this town. And I would pass by in the day, but I feel I’m outgrowing my whole burst-into-flame phase.”
Buffy: “Fine. Keep going, I cut you a break.”
Spike: “Yeah, okay, let me guess, you won’t kill me? Ooh, the whole crowd pleasing threats and swagger routine...how stunningly original. I’m just passing through, satisfied? I really hope so because God knows you need some satisfaction in life besides shagging Captain Cardboard and I never really liked you anyway, and you have stupid hair.”
Was the whole concept behind this season having to beautiful blonde woman beating the crap out of each other?
The smile I had on my face when Glory knocked down that door. She's gotta be one of my favourite villains. Just totally unexpected. Pure power in a beautiful and unhinged visage. Love her.
I still hear people today say that they hate Dawn but here's the thing. She's a teenager and she was written to be annoying at times. Coz that's what it's like to have a kid sister for someone like Buffy. It's spot on and the fact she irritates you means it's written and portrayed well.
Glory's introduction gets a 5/10 for me, but the rest of the episode made up for it. The gang are in a new place (literally that is: the magic shop) and they feel a lot more natural together than the past 10 or so episodes, more scenes are taking place at night, and in actual locations instead of fake sets that look like fake sets. Ravil Isyanov is a grade-A actor and was vital to making the scenes at the end carry the weight that they did. The last scene, with Buffy and Dawn, was genuinely heartfelt, and is just what this show needed.
Begrudgingly, I have to admit that I liked Spike and his scene. I'm so over Riley. Captain Cardboard indeed, lol.
