A true fusion of classic Sci-Fi (Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon, Star Wars, Star Trek) and old spaghetti westerns (Paint your Wagon, Rawhide). The shows creator Joss Whedon has done a remarkable job bringing us a different take on the space opera genre. A mish-mash of western style landscapes, filled with horses, cattle, ranches, sheriffs and adding a touch of space, ships, stars and what looks like (in some episodes) a Colt Single Action Army revolver as well as the multitude of other western influenced guns given an alternative 'laser' shot effect in post, all makes for a wonderful adventure aboard Serenity. The characters are wonderful, the action, tension and humor, all make for a wonderful if short lived space opera that is still loved to this day. So if anybody ever asks you if you've ever sailed in a firefly? ...Wanna? Just say "Yes Please"

It was a series with the heart in the right place and I loved the effects. Sadly, Fox fucked up the episodic order and never gave it a chance. Deserves all the attention it has gotten.
To my tastes, this in one of the best TV Series ever made. It's Joss Whedon. The casting is perfect. The writing is imaginative, witty, and it explores the nobility and fallibility of humanity. It gave us beloved characters with depth and relationships for which we rooted. The production values were ahead of it's time. The music was perfect. And, that perfect cast gave perfect performances. Pretty high praise for a 14 episode, one season series, released incomplete and out of order by the network (for more on the tortured and redemptive journey of the series read it's Wikipedia page). This is probably my third time through the series and I bought the DVDs so, needless to say, this show is on My Top 20 TV Series list, and I give it a 10 (perfect) out of 10. [Space Western]
Well, well, it's been a while since a show kept me up all night watching all the episodes in one sitting without falling asleep. I recommend Firefly to everyone who wants to get away from clichés, bad scripts, bad acting and terrible jokes. I don't like sci-fi but I have to admit with its western mood and setting I barely noticed I'm watching a sci-fi. The actors are fantastic, the script is incredibly well-written and there's so much originality in it. I still can't believe it got cancelled after only 1 season.
I will never understand how a show this highly rated, and this popular amongst geeks and non geeks was canceled and/or has not been resurrected. I personally love this show due to the fact that it is so different from most other shows of this genre.

Ya know everywhere that I've come across this show that had a ratings system always showed very high, so I finally watched the entire 1st season and loved it! So how does a show that is very popular with everyone who watches it only get 1 season? There is so many unanswered questions I'd like answers too; specifically I want to know whats up with the preacher! Oh well...guess shows have their own politics so the fact that if it's good or not doesn't matter. :(
Whole setup doesn't work for me. First episode had nothing in it that made me want to watch more. Dropped it right after that.

Well, this show certainly has its fans. Personally I think it is one of the worst sci-fi shows I have watched in a long time.
Firefly plots and characters are inconsistent. Many constantly act contrary to their best interest. The 'threat' is a group of people portrayed so wildly, yet can still cooperate enough to pilot star ships. The costumes are bland and recycled. The anti-hero is gruff; he sometimes acts honorably, but is mostly sexist and too violent. The little sister character was completely unneeded. The pilot and sidekick had many passionate encounters without enough story to explain why they are committed to each other. Firefly is commonly rated positively because it is easy to turn off your brain and soak in the feel-good atmosphere. In the real world Firefly is a less than average, throw away, sci-fi television series. The network made the right call in canceling this show.
I cannot say enough about this show. It was too clever for Fox and its cancellation was heartbreaking for us browncoats. Less than a normal season and we're still flying. No better rating than that.
Just some friendly advice: When you watch it, make sure to watch the episodes in DVD order, not in aired order. Because the aired order was determined by fools, and the DVD order by the Mind Behind.

Don't forget to watch the Serenity movie, it was in 2005, and it like a season 2 to tie the loose ends.
This is one of my all time favorite shows. It got a bad wrap and was aired out of order. I think this confused people and led to the low viewership. Please watch this BUT only after web searching for the Proper episode order. Most streaming services list them in the incorrect order in which they aired. The DVD box and the wiki are good sources for the correct order.

I don't know what is so amazing about this show but since I have started, I can't stop thinking about it.
Order's still slightly wacked. It seems like they mistook "Serenity" (the movie) and "serenity" (the episode) as being the same thing, and put the movie at the end, which is correct, but didn't add the episode in the beginning.
Firefly is a Western-themed romp through a short-lived and yet incredibly realized universe of intricate and complex themes that highlight some of the deepest questions of humanity without ever explicitly asking them. As one of the most beloved television series of all time (evidenced by the succesful fan campaign to raise money for a movie to bookend the franchise) it's well worth the watch.
Because of the high score i thought it was a more deep series but it is just a lighthearted space western. The cast, plot and action are very entertaining!
If cowboy bebop get a live-action that exactly it would look like.. Every episode is a gem

Wow. This show is fantastic. It has a great cast, writing and some (now) very well known talent. This has been my first viewing and if I had watched it as it went out I too would've joined the ranks of those desperate to get it back.
In conclusion from what I've read; Fox really fucked the dog with this show.
Mindbogglingly piss poor promotion and overall handling.
Really enjoyed watching it again. Great cast of course, the story lines were really good, they kept a tight focus on the group. They were always doing 'jobs' to make ends meet instead of wandering off in the typical fake drama stuff we see today. Only a few flashbacks to the war which made them an addition to the story line not a distraction.

A perfect mix of Western dialogue and spectacular Sci Fi drama. If Firefly weren't killed before seeing birth, it would've been more than the ultimate classic it aimed to be.
All in all one of the best sci-fi series I've ever watched. Hate to admit how furious I am getting over the fact that it was never given a sequel. This show is one of the platinum shows whose wings got clipped in its prime state.

Wow, such a unique show haha, when i watching it it had this unique tone/style that i have never seen in other sci-fi shows, such a shame it was cancelled so early, too early, imagine what the show would have been like if they had the time to finish the season and even more seasons?, this would have been a legendary show, but even with these 14 episodes i still thought this was a great great show, i rated most of the episodes either 8 or 9, outstanding visuals too for the time, really outstanding, acting and writing was great although i hated the chinese etc language parts, way too many of them and it was just frankly not needed, i was also a little disappointed about the growth of river throughout the series, did not also particularly like her acting although she had a few good moments throughout the series. Some great individual stories, because they got cancelled quite early into the shows run i understand that alot of character development had to be cut and it shows (river) etc, but i still thought they did incredibly well considering. Thankfully the fans of this show managed to get a studio to do a feature film Serenity as a sequel to the show i think, i will be watching that next. All in all, a memorable great show, cancelled way too early. So... what to say about this show without pissing off so many fans.
Personally I would say for fans of sci-fi genre it is worth watching. It has a good cast and interesting protagonists.
Is it a must see? Not necessarily.
After reading so many reviews my expectation was maybe to high. But maybe some fans have just judge this show where it could go and not where it ended.

Just watched the show, and yeah i know im late to the party! I've been dreading watching this show as it was cancelled, but after re-evaluating my feelings towards that notion i finally gave in and watched. I can safely say that i get what the hype was about. The show is simply spectacular. I, like tons of others can safely say that Fox made their biggest mistake in the history of TV when they cancelled this. Not only that, but they sent the show in the wrong order aswell. and the order used here on Trakt is that one, the wrong one. Use the Netflix/DVD Order. I can safely say that it is the right order. Now that we got that away, and calling out Fox, we can get back to the show.
First of all, the cast is spectacular, the writing is spot on, (except for the little back story we get, but as Josh Whedon had planned this show to go for atleast 7 Seasons, i would expect that the story would be layed out for us in a timely manner, so i won't really give them crap about it. Just pointing it out), the caracter's and the universe is what makes this show one of the best show's that has been on TV. I encourage everyone to see the show despite the fact that it got cancelled.

Just finished a rewatch for the third time.. it never gets old.. very glad for the movie that ended it off nicely.
One of the great sci-fi shows that got axed because of not enough viewers. But thanks to the movie Serinity it came to a full circle with perfect ending.
At first the show seemed quite boring, but then the show showed some quite exciting histories and the cast were doing great!
