This show is worth watching if only for every time Ruth Wilson is on screen. But yeah, other than that, this is what I've come to expect from His Dark Materials. Incredibly complex and strange source material to adapt, I'll give them that.

Btw, every time I read "written by Jack Thorne" I cry a little inside.

Bit of a boring episode for a final season start.

Hope we get a little more than 7 episodes of "recruit random people we've never heard of", ending in a "wrap-up everything we've ignored until the last episode, but way too fast" finale.

Dunno, not happy with how it's looking so far.

Lyra looks a lot older now, and Will. I guess due to the delays because of covid.

This show is starting to lose me a bit. It has a strange and interesting plot and a good cast for the most part, but there must be a reason why I've either completely or almost fallen asleep 4 or 5 times trying to watch. I really, really dislike the lulling, painfully slow-moving camera work and the equally lulling music. No wonder the show is such a slog. But hey, it was good see Mr. Eko again!

no matter what she's done, mrs. coulter is still THE fashion icon of this show

Why is the air date the 18th? Reelgood says the 5th

Wow, I've never seen a show consistently get this worse and worse in quality since the first season, but this episode especially just nosedived hard. The acting was insanely stiff, the plot to me felt like it skipped a few key episodes and dropped us in with missing context, and a bunch of random new characters with no backstory or setup suddenly coming into the show, like the angels nonchalantly showing up when that should've been a big moment, and Asriel showing up in some random 1970s/Star Wars fighter using The Force to cross dimensions to find this random black guy who we never met who leads some army we've never heard of, like what in the name of The Authority is even happening?

I noticed this episode has a different director that the previous season which was mostly Jamie Childs; this time is Amit Gupta. Season 1 had many different directors, so a different director isn't necessarily a reason. I'm just not sure what's going on with this one.

One thing I did like was the new opening, so there's that.

Incredibly good season start, loved every minute of it. Love the books, love the show. So impressed what they did with the material!
