I'm Greg and this is How to Drink, a show where I make cocktails and talk movies, videos games, TV, books, whatever really. I make classic cocktails, Tiki cocktails, new original cocktails, and I pull inspiration from wherever my mind wanders. Although I keep things pretty fast and loose and I'm prone to stream-of-consciousness tangents, I take the production side of things very seriously (The show has been described as Booze-Porn). So, welcome to my show, How to Drink, I hope you like it!

This is a Gin and Cucumber drink courtesy of Milk+Honey, and it is one of my absolute favorites! Now, the Gordon’s Breakfast is a variation of the Gordon’s Cup, so I will be making this drink both ways but either way both are sublime brunch drinks. Hope you enjoy, cheers!

2018x06 Boulevardier

  • 2018-05-25T04:00:00Z5m

On this episode of How to Drink, I am taking a look at a classic cocktail called a Boulevardier. The Boulevardier is a cocktail with origins in Harry’s New York Bar (which of course is in Paris) in the 1920’s. It’s a combination of Bourbon, Campari, and Vermouth. At its core it is a simple drink that really doesn’t need improving, so I present it here fair simple. Hope you enjoy, cheers!

2018x08 Cosmopolitan

  • 2018-06-08T04:00:00Z5m

On this episode of How to Drink, I am making the best Cosmo you’ve ever had in honor of “Sex and the City’s” 20th anniversary. The Cosmopolitan is more than just Vodka cranberry, it is comprised of multiple ingredients, and as I demonstrate in this episode it’s one that leaves some room to improve upon too. Hope you enjoy, cheers!

On this episode of How to Drink, I’m taking a look at a single serving version of Philadelphia Fish House Punch from Double Indeminty, the great noir! If you’ve never seen Double Indemnity, or aren’t very familiar with Film Noir, you really owe it to yourself to see this one and to give the Fish House Punch a try. Hope you enjoy, cheers!

On this episode, I am doing something a little different! This week I go to Bar Convent Brooklyn to hang out with my friends from the House of Angostura and make a Trinidad Sour. I met up with tons of people making all kinds of new spirits and liqueurs, and tried some awesome drinks. Hope you enjoy, cheers!

2018x11 Sherry Cobbler

  • 2018-06-28T04:00:00Z5m

On this episode of How to Drink, I’m taking a look at the Sherry Cobbler! The Sherry Cobbler is really a drink that may very well predate the Old Fashioned. It’s pretty easy to make, just a combination of orange wedges, sugar, sherry, and shaken over ice and served on crushed ice. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed! Hope you enjoy, cheers!

2018x13 Cocktail's "Red Eye"

  • 2018-07-13T04:00:00Z5m

On this episode of How to Drink, I’m taking a look at a cocktail that is supposedly perfect for hangovers, the Red Eye from the movie Cocktail with Tom Cruise. It’s a pretty straightforward drink with a combination of beer, tomato juice, egg, and hot sauce, but it’s better than it sounds to be honest! I wouldn’t say that this is a Brunch drink, but one you’d probably find hanging out in a dive bar. Either way, if you’re feeling awful the morning after a night of drinking I highly encourage giving the Red Eye a try. Hope you enjoy, cheers!

2018x14 Bloody Mary

2018x14 Bloody Mary

  • 2018-07-20T04:00:00Z5m

On this episode of How to Drink, I’m making a classic brunch cocktail with a perfect Bloody Mary. You’d probably recognize this drink filled to the brim with all kinds of meats, cheeses, pickles, or anything that the bartender can squeeze into it. In this video, I’m keeping it simple with the traditional celery stalk, some olives, and gherkins. If your hangover is raging, and you’re trying to freshen up, I find the kick of hot sauce and horseradish in a Bloody Mary to be the perfect thing. Hope you enjoy, cheers!

2018x15 What is Triple Sec | Chaser

  • 2018-07-25T04:00:00Z5m

On this episode of Chaser, I I'm tackling Orange Liqueurs. What is Curaçao? What is Triple Sec? Grand Marnier? Cointreau? I dive a little into the history of them, and then do some side by side taste testing of a few key bottles to find out.

On this episode of How to Drink, I am recreating the Moloko Plus from A Clockwork Orange. I’m making this drink as close as possible to the drink in the film besides all of the illicit drugs so that things don’t get too out of hand, and that we stay somewhat reasonable. If you’re a fan of “A Clockwork Orange” give this drink a try, it was invented by Morgan Shick at Trick Dog in San Francisco and it does not disappoint. Hope you enjoy, cheers!

  • 2018-09-14T04:00:00Z5m

On this episode of How to Drink, I’m taking a look at the rum staple, the Mojito. The Mojito is of course the famed national drink of Cuba and came to prominence there, typically made with Barcardi Rum. It's is a summer favorite, and it’s simple enough to make. These drinks are light, refreshing, delicious, and frankly dangerous because they will sneak up on you. Hope you enjoy, cheers!

On this episode of Chaser, I’m showing you how to make your own ginger syrup. It’s a staple in my home bar for use in Dark and Stormys, Mule drinks, and also just to make a delicious ginger beer when I’m looking for something non-alcoholic. There’s not too much to the process here so follow along and by the end of the video you will be making Ginger syrup before you know it!

2018x24 Dark and Stormy

  • 2018-09-21T04:00:00Z5m

On this episode of How to Drink, I’m taking a look at how to make the perfect Dark and Stormy cocktail. Fun fact, Gosling’s enforces a claim they hold over the copyright of the drink, and requires it to be made with their rum. Which I don’t do here, so however you like to make your Dark and Stormy, I encourage you to do so. Hope you enjoy, cheers!

2018x26 New York Sour

2018x26 New York Sour

  • 2018-10-12T04:00:00Z5m

On this episode of How to Drink, I present the New York Sour or as it might have been known in the 1890's a Fancy Sour. There were "Fancy" variations of all kinds of drinks back then, the idea being to embellish a cocktail to its maximum limit and arrive at something you'd still actually want to drink. Party like it's 1899 with the New York Sour, a Whiskey Sour variation from the golden age of cocktails. Cheers!

2018x27 Sour Cherry Gin Martinez

  • 2018-10-19T04:00:00Z5m

On this episode of How to Drink, I’m taking a look at a delicious and unique drink known as the Sour Cherry Gin Martinez. A drink that you definitely need in your home bar! I’m happy to be brought to you by Luxardo, and wouldn't you know, they've got a brand new product on the market and you should pick up a bottle. Of course, I'm talking about Sour Cherry Gin, a London Dry style gin that's been infused with the Luxardo Orchard Marasca Cherries, and it's frankly delicious.

2018x28 Magnum Pi's "King Kamehameha"

  • 2018-10-26T04:00:00Z5m

On this episode of How to Drink, I present a new Tiki cocktail born from a love of Magnum P.I. called “The King Kamehameha.” The original Magnum P.I. series premiered in 1980, and with it men across the world started sporting Magnum’s (Tom Selleck) iconic mustache! If you're not familiar, it's a one hour drama that follows the exploits of ex-navy-seal-turned-private-eye Thomas Magnum as he solves various crimes and mysteries on the Hawaiian Islands. He lives on the estate of the illustrious Robin Masters, a fictional author, and works for him testing the estates security. Happy Malaloween! Cheers!

King Kamehameha was born in 1735 and was the first King of a unified Hawaii, an exceptionally important figure in Hawaiian history. It's also the name of the club Magnum's friend owns and where some of the action of the show takes place. This drink takes it's name from that.

2018x29 Rosebud

2018x29 Rosebud

  • 2018-11-02T04:00:00Z5m

On this episode of How to Drink, I’m taking a look at Citizen Kane’s Rosebud cocktail! Just like Citizen Kane, this drink is complex and wonderful filled with many ingredients. A delicious blend of rums and fruit juices to celebrate and pay homage to Citizen Kane, one of the greatest and most influential films of all time. Cheers!

On this episode of How to Drink, I am gearing up for this week's release of "The Crimes of Grindelwald", so I made a Lobe Blaster from Fantastic Beasts! A big part of this drink is in its presentation, the cocktail will change colors from blue to red in the glass, appropriate for a "magic" cocktail. I like to serve it with a small bottle of the lemon juice on the side, so the guest can drop in the potion and watch the colors change. The secret to this neat trick is in my "blue gin", which is made by steeping dried Butterfly Pea Blossoms in gin. The flowers quickly lend their pigment to the gin without affecting it's flavor. The neat thing about this color is that it's a natural PH indicator, so when we increase the acidity it will shift colors to red. Magic! Or maybe just chemistry. At any rate it's a tasty and easy to drink cocktail your fellow wizards are sure to love.

2018x31 Spiked Cider

2018x31 Spiked Cider

  • 2018-11-16T05:00:00Z5m

On this episode of How to Drink, nothing warms me up on the holidays like a Hot Spiked Apple Cider! Try this favorite drink of mine this Thanksgiving! Your Thanksgiving dinner, or really any holiday party, will be greatly improved by this delicious Spiked Apple Cider. There's nothing complicated about this of course, and you could make this in any number of ways, but this recipe is by far my favorite method of preparing this warming holiday beverage.

I dare say it is perfect. Would an Applejack or Calvados work here? Certainly, but for my money Bourbon is the order of the day, and a better bourbon at that. It will pay dividends. This drink is very easy to scale up to a large punch bowl size, simply keep the cider hot with a bottle of bourbon nearby so that guests can spike their own drinks as they serve, otherwise alcohol will be lost to the simmering. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and that this spiked cider brings warmth to your table. If you have your own recipe, I'd love to hear about it in the comments!
