Internal Ballistics -- and all the possible factors that cause variations in either MV or in Point of Aim as the bullet begins its motion and how to correct for them.
• We will discuss the nature of propellants and how they affect projectile movement / pressures
• We will discuss different factors that can affect the MV of a projectile
o Variations in ammunition / reloading tips / non-uniformities -- propellant moisture, primer seating, bullet seating, case dimensions, powder weight, orientation of grains in a case, projectile weight/profile, etc...
o Tolerances in different weapons
o How bore wear affects muzzle velocity
o Propellant Temperatures
o Projectile and Bore Temperatures
o Coppering
o Powder Fowling
o Bore conditioning and barrel memory
• We will talk about how other factors can cause the axis of the bore at the breech to differ slightly from the axis of the bore at the muzzle
o Muzzle Jump variations due to inconsistent rifle deployment -- bipods vs sandbags, deployment and marksmanship techniques
o Whip action - harmonics
o Deflections due to muzzle break pull-off.
o Other tips
Intermediate ballistics -- we will mention how suppressors effect the transition of the projectile from internal progression to external flight
External Ballistics -- is the science of all the factors that affect the flight path of the projectile after its exits the muzzle.
• We will discuss everything you will need to know: how changes in ambient air temperature, humidity and barometric pressure affect the bullet. We will talk about wind, how to set up Microsoft excel to make corrections for coreolis effect, how and why spin drift occurs and much much more.
Terminal Ballistics -- is the study of what happens once the projectile arrives at its destination.
After this we will show you how to get through the nightmare of all these constantly changing and varying complexities with TiborasaurusRex's improved system of field expe
In this video, Rex introduces the fundamentals of long range external ballistics. Rex covers: Newton's 1st Law of Motion, the forces that affect projectile flight characteristics, components of a parabolic trajectory curve, and the affects of gravity on the bullet. Rex also discusses how the drag characteristics of projectiles affect their trajectory. Velocity and other terms such as ascending branch, maximum ordinate, descending branch, and terminus are defined. This may be review to experienced shooters, but is essential information for all to know before we get into advanced external ballistics later on.

In this video, Rex quickly reviews how long range shooters have classically applied basic external ballistics. Rex shows the most commonly used methods of constructing simple ballistic charts for long range shooting. Although their ease of use is desirable, are severe limitations to using these simplifies ballistics tables. In the field, we will find that there is no such thing as "standard conditions".

Accurate long range shooting is impossible if one does not adjust for temperature with precision. In this video, Rex shows how important adjusting for ambient air temperature and for ammunition temperature really is. Want to hit drop that mule deer buck at 1000 meters? Then you will have to watch this video. Rex exposes the shortcomings of the US army Sniper Field Manual FM 23-10 on this issue. Using the .308 WIn with 168 grain BTHP MatchKings as a reference, Rex illustrates what happens with a typical long range shot when temperature is ignored.

Rex tears apart the United States Army Sniper field manual FM 23-10 section on correcting for humidity. Were the writers of the text smoking crack? Watch this video to find out. Rex gives an explanation of how humidity affects atmospheric density and gives an example of how this works out for long range shooters.

Rex reviews the effects of barometric pressure and altitude on the trajectory of a bullet. In order to precisely correct for the changes in atmospheric density at different elevations, the shooter must first make an accurate determination of what the B.P. is at his location. Rex also goes over the use of cell phones for obtaining barometric data.

Wind may be the most difficult thing to correct for when long range shooting. In this basic external ballistics video, Rex discussed the effects of wind on a bullets trajectory. This video covers the clock method, the feel method, wind observations on local biota, spotting and reading mirage through optics, how to do angular corrections, wind formulas using constants, and the use of wind tables. This in an introduction to the understanding the dynamics of wind in their relation to long range rifle shooting.

How does wind affect bullet flight? This second part of the wind corrections lesson hopes to answer that. The clock method is compared to the angle cosine method, daily wind patterns, upslope breezes, downslope breezes, and topographical influences on wind patterns are all discussed in this video. Rex explained how wind constants are used and goes through some examples of how even small breezed can shift the point of impact dramatically.

In this video, Rex expounded upon the different factors involved in making corrections for shooting upslope and downslope. Rex discusses true range, actual horizontal range, using angle cosine to calculate AHR, and how to adjust fire for all these things. Rex also explains how true range is still necessary to determine atmospheric corrections such as wind drift, barometric pressure changes and air temperature.
