There are many different scope mounts and rings available for you to use on your long range precision rifle. Which ever choice you end up making, there are certain things you want to understand before mounting them. Your ability to track moving targets and acquire targets quickly will hinge upon how your scope is situated on your rifle. Most of the grievances rifle shooters have about using optics are rooted in poorly mounted optics. If the scope is set up right, you should have no problems getting on target quickly and efficiently. In this video, Rex walks you through the entire scope mounting procedure while discussing equipment selection as he goes. This may not be the most riveting action packed episode ever produced, but it is loaded with numerous tips and insights concerning the topic. If your watch this all the way through, you should understand everything you need to know to get your optics properly mounted. Rex's recommendations: 1. Use a one piece scope base if possible. 2. Match the base to the rings --use the same material (steel on steel or aluminum on aluminum). 3. Leaving enough room for your bolt handle operation, try to get the scope as low as you can -- this may require careful measuring of your scope dimensions before purchasing rings and bases. 4. Use thread locker. 5. Be careful not to over torque / damage your screws.
