Stargate Atlantis: Season 3

3x17 Sunday

An incredibly stupid death to the point it feels disrespectful to the character.

Dr. Mallozzi's anime DVD collection? I can't even begin to unpack that one.* :joy_cat:

Two episodes in a row with the "catastrophe, then cause" structure… Occasionally being yanked back to the past after a tantalizing and suspense-building glimpse at (what the viewer thinks is) the present is OK, but not all the time. That said, this one is different enough with multiple skips to show different plot threads that it's fine, mostly. (The repeated dialogue does get a little tedious at times.)

And of course, the final impact of this story on we viewers' hearts trumps any minor quibble I might have with the storytelling devices used. It's very dangerous to be a doctor on a Stargate series, innit?

* — For those who don't pay attention to credits, the name is a reference to Stargate producer, Joseph Mallozzi.

The constant back and forth for different perspectives was very annoy and completely unnecessary. This isn't a murder mystery or some other story that benefits from layers of reveal. This would have been far better in a traditional chronological layout with interwoven personal story lines.

Stupid ass doc got what he deserves for his holier than thou BS. He took too many risks (either through action or inaction) and this one was catastrophically stupid. Thankfully we don't have to put up with more of that crap from him. I liked the character in general, but he was also very annoying, especially the constant whining.

Good riddance.

I originally rated this a point lower, but gave it a bump for killing off an annoying doctor and a very touching final scene.
