Bike paths that simply end. Cycle paths that are impassable or cycle paths where cars are parked. Every cyclist knows this madness and the struggle on the roads. But many of these routes are not only stupid, but also dangerous: in 2019, 445 cyclists died in Germany, by far the most in Europe. Things are getting better, as our neighboring countries show. In Copenhagen and Utrecht, for example, cyclists enjoy their own cycle streets and traffic lights. Reporter Isabel Ströh went looking for the craziest bike paths in Hamburg. Why are the cycle paths in Germany so often so bad?
