Modern noir private detective. Farrell is handsome and likeable. The writing is good. The editing and arty stylized images makes it distinct. The imagery mixing with old Hollywood movies is a great touch. I immediately fell in love with this detective story.
Noir-ish, at times stylish (those flashbacks from real, old school Hollywood movies are a great touch), soft voiceover, the hero's name which gets repeated around 75 times as a Humphrey Bogart detective... some more jazz and we got it all. I take it back, more than enough jazz.
Too full of itself - which is fine if it delivers, which it doesn't tho.
The movie buff trait is nice, but gets pretentious like those dudes whose identity is built around the band they listen to. As much as the philosophical, man of the people attitude. It feels as fake, carefully constructed and at the same time not believable - as the quirks of Don Winslow's characters. They try to be Connelly's Bosch but more often than not, fail.
All in all, it didn't convince me but I hope noirs make a come back cause hell yeah they need to

Interesting story about the character but that noir stuff needs to go away. There is a reason they stopped because they suck. Ok I know it will not happen, it is the style of the show, like old crappy detective movies with b&w and make it artistic and of course the so much voice over from the private investigator. Lower it down a bit.
Also someone explain to me the part of Natalie Alyn Lind. She is the mother of her, like when ? She played the high school girlfriend in Goldberg, she is 22 years old! What the heck are they trying to pass it on to?? Because she is willing to do some breast scenes and photos ??? It doesn’t make any sense.

Those who dislike the noir-esque style should probably stop watching and go back to the artful 'Simpsons' or Real Housewives instead. Stylized programming that takes risks is a necessity nowadays especially for streamers. A thinking person show that people with low attention spans and sparse "action" might not get. Really enjoyed this episode. Farrell is a superb actor with a growing body of diverse work. His American accent is great.
