The Fall 2013

Fantastic thriller. For those who like to be spoon fed mind-numbing high-octane violence, action, explosions etc, this isn't for you. For the rest of us, welcome to the wonderful world of acting and drama. The accents are, mostly, genuine or very well done. The Northern Irish accent can be difficult to follow if you're not used to hearing it. Good to see a show set in Northern Ireland in which the troubles are not a major concern.

One of the best shows I’ve ever watched!
Paul Spector proves that Dornan can be a respected actor and conquer the sceptics after the trashy 50 shades… . Gillian Anderson is amazing as usual. A true diva!
We need good written plots and characters, and #The Fall is a diamond!

So, the first season is actually just part one... great. I would have prefered this ending to another season to be honest - Not everything has to be resolved.
Imho it kind of derailed with the last episode. Not only the forced drama with his wife but also how he let himself get baited like that.
Without the second half in sight there is not really a point in actually watching this right now if you havn't already.

The Fall and The killing are for me the 2 best thriller series of the decade!

ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SHOW! The story writing, the characters & the acting are brilliant! OMG! Gillian Anderson & Jamie Dornan are both absolutely amazing in this. Each of their characters is so complex, so much alike one another, while at the same time being very opposite obviously cop -vs- serial killer, can't get much more opposite. One thing that I really love about this show is that they got the pacing right. If you are a fan of other similar crime dramas told in this format of story telling, then you know some can really drag along each episode. Not THE FALL, no the pace is perfect, it goes on at a very steady beat the same as that of a 1 HR crime drama such as Law & Order. It pulls the viewer in w/the endless amounts of information about these characters, their relationships & the crime & crime solving techniques, when the episode ends you are surprised it's over so quickly. this is totally the type of show you could spend an entire weekend binge watching!! I SURE HOPE THIS SHOW STICKS AROUND FOR A GOOD LONG WHILE!!! GREAT SHOW!

slow, boring and a bit overrated.

I have loved this Gillian Anderson empowered, inspiring, intelligent and that does not bend before anyone. The plot of a good suspense, with a very clean dose of violence, very interesting, does not lose tension in any of the chapters, although I did not understand the corrupt policemen of the first season, I did not see the link between them and the strangler of Belfast. Jamie Dornan, I did not see you in the 50 shades, but in this thriller you have fascinated me, with few dialogues to say that it has been enough, his performance has captivated me to the point of not wanting to be caught. Fantastic thriller I hope to see Stella Gibson again resolve more cases.

I mainly started watching this because of Gilian because I hadn't seen anything from her in a while. She didn't dissapoint me.

As for "The Fall" itself. Well, it's not bad just nothing special either. Yes, it is slow and I think they could have easily done it in a two hour movie format. There are often longer pauses in the dialogue and the camera moves slowly too. So, if you like fast pace and lots of action this is surely not your thing.

I'm not sure if I will watch the second season, a lot will depend on how the first episodes will play out.

The main character is disgusting and everything else is rather boring.

This series is just brilliant television. Gillian sparkles, bristles and is utterly radiant as she puts in another amazing performance. Colin too is quite disturbing as he glides through his double life. It is just so welcome and fresh, to have this set in a different location, with a relatively young cast. The tension is managed well and this is just great television even today.

People really need to learn to lock their doors properly in this series...

A wonderful show, utterly compelling. At Times, and only a few times, a little slow but apart from that it's edge of the seat stuff all the way. Brilliantly written, wonderfully acted and highly recommended.

3 Thoughts After Completing ‘The Fall’:

  1. The power and presence of Gillian Anderson is reason enough to check out this show. Maybe the only reason. No other character quite reaches her level. Her performance is subtle, but you just can’t take your eyes off her.

  2. There are some strange plot points, mostly in the first season (like the dude beating up prostitutes in his hotel room), that go nowhere. There are quite a few characters that aren’t fully fleshed out, where you wonder what they’re true purpose is in the story. All in all, there’s something about this series that feels… incomplete. It closes with that feeling too.

  3. Jamie Dornan is sufficiently creepy. And I remain a fan of him and his work. But I had read reviews of this show, before watching it, expressing that he doesn’t succeed in being a powerful enough yin to Anderson’s yang. And I couldn’t help but take note of that throughout the series. I do agree that this show could have been significantly elevated by a more dynamic villainous performance.

I don't think there is any point in analyzing the motives of the characters, but just watch a well-written and realized series in which you can feel the atmosphere of Northern Ireland.

The thrill is impeccable
Though this series could have been a 1 season show

Kinda creepy. The person who is the killer is disturbing to say the least. This one will stick with you. Gillian shines as well!!!

Just starting season 3, really irritating... I don't care if Spector dies, so why spend a whole episode on that. The while series drags out a story which could easily have been completed in one episode. Waaaay to drawn out. Also got tired of the lead actress whispering everything as if it has great importance... A bit tedious.

It slowed down a bit towards the end of season 1, it was still a bit slow in the beginning of season 2. But DAMN!!!! Don't give up, It picked up big time in speed in the last 4 episodes. It's like Dexter, but REAL LIFE Dexter and not the fake American glamour version serial killer. I gotta say, I am crushing bad on Jamie Dornan (I dare not say Paul Spector, because that would mean that I am crushing on a serial killer). That last scene of season 2 was just breathtaking and had me on the edge of my seat. The peaks into the minds of Paul and Gibson are utterly fascinating. Shows like Blacklist, that are full of constant plot holes irritate to me death. Not on this great show. No plot holes, great writing and great acting. The beauty is all in the details <3

this show is so intense that every single second seems to last for 2. there's not so much action, still it keeps you glued to the screen! One of the best psychological thriller seen in the last years!

I think is really good. Gillian and Jamie do an incredible job, and you may like their characters or not, but they are really complex.
