I think they should have get ridden of "Red John" in season 2 at the most. The hunt for him felt too stretched and ridiculous at times.I liked the recent changes they made.
Just finished a third time watching this show. After Dexter and Sherlock this is my favorite police show ever. How I wished they would have made more seasons. A friend wanted to see a reboot, but I think it would be very hard to find actors to do the job Simon and Robin did as Jane and Lisbon.
it’s a good series. Middle seasons were most interesting then the pace started to go down
After Monk, this looks too dark and heavy to watch.
I’m surprised to see so many positive reviews of this show. The main female character, Lisbon, is insufferable and I found myself rooting for her demise the entire show, similar to Olivia from Fringe. Jane isn’t a bad character, but it is an interesting highlight on how multiple law enforcement teams are so terrible at their jobs and literally can’t do anything without handholding from untrained civilians.
The plot itself is mediocre at best and it’s one of those shows you don’t really have to watch and can just half listen to and still know more than you realized.
I really liked the show. I saw some episodes on TV and did not see every episode.
Now, after it is finished and every episode is on Netflix I binged it which was a nice thing for me.
If you think about watching this show please keep in mind, that is not designed for binge watching. The meta plot of Red John is sometimes forgotten and after the Red John case is solved there are only small meta plots.
The show lives and dies with Jane and his relationship to Lispon. I do not know if the marriage was a great idea at the end. Yes, Jane finally is happy again. Yes, Lispon is happy as well. But did they really need to marry?
Kimbel Cho is a wonderful sidekick to the show. I wished that he had gained more attention by the script writers as he is funny as hell the way he is saying things, not what he i saying.
In the end I can give a solid 5/7 to the show and can recommend it to everyone who likes a nice crime series with a character your would punch if you meet him but love to watch on the screen.
I have seen friends like 20 times and most of the cast are from Friends from this show
Well ... up to the 6th and a half season a really good show I enjoyed watching. Since Red John ain't no more, not so much. They should have ended it there, in my opinion.
Nevertheless, I still would recommend the show to anyone who's asking!
Love me some Patrick Jane, but not really loving the recent changes . . .
One of my favourite shows so far! Simon Baker is an amazing actor. I loved seeing him play Patrick Jane. He always plays his characters so naturally and convincing, that you sometimes wonder whether he's actually acting. The dynamic between Cho/Rigsby, Van Pelt/Rigsby and Lisbon/Jane were one of the best things about the show. Even the characters in later seasons such as Dennis and Wylie were a great asset to the show. I am ashamed I only found out about this show 5 years after its end. What I also love about this show is that everything is so well thought of. The script, the development of the characters, the acting, everything is so compelling and interesting and you just never get bored. Especially the relationships between the characters are so well written. Not once did I think it was too cheesy or slow or too fast or not believable. You follow these characters on their journey and how they become friends or how they fall in love with subtle hints throughout the show, and you just root for their happiness. It's so beautiful and so real. Nothing feels forced or strange. The only part that I might be a little sad about or think that should have been handled better is the development of Cho. He was an interesting and funny character, but they didn't really focus much on him compared to the others. There were some moments where I really felt they could have given him an interesting storyline or zoom in a bit more on that particular situation, but they just let it slide so easily, that I was thinking afterwards: why did they hint on this situation and then just forget about it? Why introducing a storyline to just throw it away later on? That was the only thing I was a bit frustrated about. They should have given the actor more credit, more things to work with. Other than that, this will always be one of my favourite shows! Sad that it ended, but in a good way. I will forever be in love with Simon Baker's smile and Patrick Jane's wit.
There are several serials with a protagonist applying out of the box techniques to solve crimes. Somehow they take inspiration from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's iconic Sherlock Holmes. He has a particular sentence which he keeps shouting about, 'You all see, but you don't observe'
The mentalist is on the same lines. There have been many and I'm sure there will be many too, but this sets a different place in viewers mind because of the back story and execution.
Each one of us has a frustrating part which believes if the criminals don't follow rules, then why should the police, they should be given free rein with all the unorthodox methods for finding the culprits. The mentalist gives this particular emotion a vent. The lead of this series, Mr Patrick Jane is very well versed in hot reading, cold reading, manipulation, keen observation, deduction etc. Though he uses these skills to help the Police solve crimes, he has an open agenda of revenge. That's something that connects him with the audience. He works with Detective Lisbon, the formal head of the team. She being a girl adds the balance on screen.
Do not go expecting mind benders and complex plots. There scarcely are any thrilling moments (Go see Sherlock for that) The show wins in terms of execution. The relations between fellow team members. Relations between Jane and Lisbon are convincing. Patrick Jane acted by Simon Baker is the most pleasing of them all. His charming, playful demeanour seals it for me at least.
to summarize, the following things make the show a success.
A lead character with a tragic back story that connects
Execution and inter-team relations
Mr Simon Baker
one of the best shows
I love this show... This show is the best crime drama ever created....
I usually don't like blonds but he won me over
I give this show an 8 out of 10 because even if the execution had its lows, the story of this man itself was very intriguing, interesting and complex. I loved Patrick Jane, he remained flawless even if you could punch holes in the rest of the characters; Simon Baker didn't falter and he was just impecable. He helped create a beautifully complex, likeable character and I grew very fond of him. I'll miss him!
Teresa Lisbon was just right and Kimball Cho also remained a very consistent character, I would've liked seeing a little bit more development for him on the side just like Rigsby and Van Pelt got.
Overall, this show is great! Very entertaining, suspenful, engaging, emotional and funny; educational even, I think I learned a thing or two from my dear Jane!
Best season of the serie !
The Mentalist is one of the best shows.
Could it be that Red John is Patrick's father? It would explain why he knows so much about him.
Four episodes into the new season and the Red John storyline has been forgotten about once again. I'll keep it on the DVR for the rest of the season and will come back to it in the Summer, for now I'm out.
when does the show comming back??
i love this show but good god watching this again as a 23 yr old all i could think was "misconduct misconduct misconduct"
how does patrick jane solve the mysteries of crimes?
Great show, however, like other people say, it does get boring after awhile. I recommend watching it along with another show, switch between each one as the other one gets boring.
love this show as castle -
I wonder if Patrick Jane has a brother who could be Red John?
Like it. But yes. 23 epds p ssn is a bit too much as risk of being boring.
Oh... I love Simon Baker(≧∇≦)
On the surface this is really a typical formula network detective show, the kind of thing I hate. Simon Baker and a couple of other cast members make this worth watching. 1 1/2 seasons in though it is getting a bit boring as it's pretty much the same episode over and over. Hoping they change it up somehow soon.
The only reason Patrick Jane looks like a genious on this show is because the rest of investigators act like idiots most of the time, so it creates a contrast. Very silly show. Sherlock Holmes for five-year-olds, unfortunately. :(

I've already watched this entire show, but I barely remember any of it. Which is why I am re-watching it, in a sense. Anyway, I'm currently watching season two and almost finished with it as well. The Mentalist is definitely one of my favorite shows of all time. There are some moments in which perfectionists immediately bash this show for, even though it's simply that. A show. If you're looking for an entertaining show to watch, I recommend this. I personally love it, although we all have our different opinions about things.
Made-Up mind reading bullshit.
Wow! Talk about formula television plots. This is the cheap instant coffee version of , just add water and it tastes the same every time and never surprises you. There isn't even a caffeine kick at the end cause they're using decaffeinated instant coffee.
I need to catch up on this show as well...I watch so many shows and this is just another one I have to catch up on with netflix dvd's....I like it alright but man the whole Red John bit..drags out to dam long
the mentalist
I think red john is Patrick jayne ... split personality .

I wonder if they've thought about having an episode where someone doesn't get hypnotized
