Anyone notice in the beginning someone mentions a Mr. Ehrmantraut on the phone? I guess Vince Gilligan reused the name in Breaking Bad with Mike Ehrmantraut. Or maybe Mike exists in the same universe as the X-Files...

Good and bad, I'm enjoying these "Twilight Zone"-esque style episodes that have been happening. We got a handful here and there sprinkled throughout the past season or two, but something happened and now they're on a roll. Sadly, since I'm from the future, I know that this will end and the show will pivot in the worst direction yet, but these have been my favorites. The pseudo-serious, rudderless and self-contradicting "mythos" episodes are the least effective and enjoyable.

Granted, even this episode is unsatisfying in that it introduces elements that are, as is the MO of the series, never followed-up on. In this instance, I'm actually referring to the side plot of the wholly corrupt, ladder-climbing and unethical FBI agent murderer that Scully was partnered with. Perhaps a future episode will wrap that up, although, to date, none of the veritable library of loose ends have been touched.

Overall, this was a nice, if grim, episode. It could've taken different paths, but is what it is. Oh, yeah, even though it'll never be touched on again, Scully is now immortal. No, not a joke. I probably should've led with that.

Another great Vince Gilligan penned story about a man who takes photos of people right before they die. He has seen Death and now Death won't take him, so he's about 150 years old. The entertaining thing about this is that it's Scully who confronts him and is forced to come to the realization that this is all very strange but true. There's no scientific explanation for what's happening and its stunning to watch her go thru that. Gillian Anderson is just great in this episode.

Secondary characters in this episode: Kersh

I think, that Fellig guy is legally responsible to HELP someone if they are injured and dying, not take their picture so he can make profit from someone else's misery as they die.
