Utopia 2013

Television at its very best. It oozes quality, be it in terms of writing, acting or photography. Utter, complete and exemplary brilliance. I couldn't possibly be happier with it.

Holy hell I can't believe I never heard of this show before now. Absolutely amazing. Everything about this show oozes greatness. Can't get enough, need more! God I hope HBO's is this good

EIGHT HOUR detailed YouTube analysis of Seasons 1 and 2, as well as the God Awful remake :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFx2QM0Z8Qo

YES I watched the WHOLE thing and it was worth it.

Silly as hell that they didn't make a season 3, or at least the 2 hour movie the creators wanted so they could tie up loose ends.

If you like this style of shows, I recommend you to watch Legion 2017. It has a uniquely weird style of music, acting, and directing.

This show is amazing! The style is unique in every little detail. One of my favourite of course!

I watch soooo many shows; this one has been one of my favorites. As an aspiring filmmaker, I consider it a masterpiece on both the production end and a bold but thought provoking script. It's brilliant, so sad that it has ended. Let's hope the HBO remake can maintain the writing, acting, and production quality.

Having seen more than 100 tv series I could say that Utopia is one of my favourites shows. One of the most beautiful filming techniques I have ever seen!

I didn't expect a lot from this show when I first heard of it. I can now say with confidence that this show is in my top 3 of all time. I cannot put into words how mad I am we aren't getting a season 3 after that ending that was season 2.

I REALLY like this series. I didn't know what I was missing.

After marathoning this amazing show and praying that the HBO adaptation somehow gets resurrected from the dead, I just have one thing left to say...

"Where is Jessica Hyde?"

loading replies

In February 2014, HBO ordered an American adaptation of Utopia, to be co-created and directed by David Fincher, with Gillian Flynn as the writer. Fincher planned on directing all episodes of the series, who said "I like the characters – I love Dennis’s honesty and affinity for the nerds." In June 2015, it was announced that Rooney Mara was negotiating for the role of Jessica Hyde. On July 30, 2015, it was reported that the series would not go into production due to budget disputes between Fincher and HBO, and that the cast had been released from their contracts. After HBO seems to have lost rights to the project, Amazon ordered a nine-episode first season directly on April 19, 2018, with Flynn said to adapt the project from the original.

I couldn't say much more than has already been said. This is a phenomenal series, and I highly recommend it. They really pushed boundaries in this, too. I don't want to finish this because then it will be over. :'(

Where is Jessica Hyde? This was a wild and amazing show. The first scene is just ‘what did I just watch??’

The colors and sets are characters in themselves. The music adds another dimension. The characters - all interesting and nuanced. The overarching aim of the Network that makes you question who are the heroes and who are the baddies.

Only thing that takes from the perfection is that creators did not get to make season 3. The two seasons are still very much worth watching. And with some effort and dismissing disappointment of ‘why did they cancel, why’ (shaking angry fist) you can make the ending work - as open ended and that they are still out there fighting for their cause.

I've just finished watching this show.
It's June 2022 and if you can't see how crazy 'coincidental' this series is to the last 2.5yrs and going to reality, you really aren't paying attention.

Everything from the flag colours having some issues (running all the way through this series), a 'flu' virus or the fear of the threat of one, global injections, and if you've kept up with that you would know of the danger of the shots themselves, depopulation, infertilisation, and if that doesn't make you think twice or three times, later in season 2 they bring up fertilizer reductions, wheat shortages, and increase in China tensions... after all that you have to wonder did the creator of this series have a vision of 9yrs in the future??
If you didn't see this, where have you been for the last 2.5yrs!

Fantastic! The photography, the BSO, the interpretations... are fabolous.

Excellent show! Don't read too much about it. Just watch it! I am glad I read the reviews after viewing the show.

Spectacular show with spectacular violence, still worth watching despite the cancellation, but keep in mind it's never coming back.

Great concept. Perfect cast. Great performances. Engaging characters. Don’t settle for the 2020 American rip-off of this, you don’t need an over-explained, culturally tampered version of this well conceived, well executed premise. I give this series an 8.5 (great with moments of superb) out of 10. [Mystery Adventure Drama]

Damn I’m watching this during the Chinese Virus pandemic. I hope that shit isn’t created to sterilize the population in real life. Scary!!!

This is an excellent show. I happened to see the American version first then found out this older British version existed. Glad I watched this one. It's definitely more interesting, more stylized and maybe a little less tidy than the American version. If you have a choice between watching the British or the American version I highly recommend the British.

An excellent study on beautiful and symmetrical cinematography accompanied by an array of starkly contrasting color. Definitely a visual feast, with a hauntingly upbeat soundtrack and great actors. It's a shame S2 ends on such a cliffhanger.

Watch it, but ask no-one about it, don't even read the reviews, don't even.. Ok, I got interested in 'Utopia' when I read that David Fincher was going to direct an American version of this MRFR! Weird ass casting, comic melodic soundtrack & technicolor drenched photography with a spectacular writing on how bizarrely realistic vision of the future. The thing is if you do not finish it at a stretch, you will never get into it!

Vivid and at times brutal. Its frequently mundane backdrop belies a remorselessness and capacity perfectly embodied by R.B.

Utopia to be remade by HBO, David Fincher will direct
The Channel 4 conspiracy thriller will be remade for the US by HBO, with House of Cards’ David Fincher at the helm, while Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn will write

Oh well... should be solid. I just hope it's different enough to warrant the whole thing.

That was a fun watch with a rather original story (especially for TV). I really loved the saturaded colors and the playful direction in general.

loading replies

Is this a mini series or will there be another season?

loading replies

Looked interesting but just couldn't get into it. It has a nice style but the storyline just wasn't appealing. Seems to get a lot of good reviews, so my suggestion is watched the first episode and you will not if you want to finish it. If the first episode doesn't leave you wanting for the next then you will probably lose interest as the plot unfolds.

Story 4/5

I like the story but due to the unique style I never really connected with the show.

loading replies

It's OK -- like the oversaturated color effect. It's unfortunate they weren't able to more sensitively handle the murdering of small children in both seasons. Would've been better to have it be a flashing news story on a television in a scene instead of showing it.

loading replies

First 2 episodes of season one have nothing to do with anything else in this series. They are stand alone shows that are pretty good. Episode 1 - 8/10
Episode 2 - 9/10
Episode 3 onward is just a mess like we're dropped into a story that has already began and makes little sense. It's like they just make everything up as they go along. Gave up during episode 4. 3/10

Top top. Great colors. Great music.

Got recommended this one from Black Mirrors fans . The trippy music and oversaturated colors make for a very unique style. As far as story goes, it is really original, and executed in a phenomenal way. As with Black Mirror, foreshadowing is all over the place, depicting a future that- albeit not bright- seems so plausible. The cast couldn't have been chosen better, especially Fiona O'Shaughnessy and Neil Maskell, that play a major role in the very cold ambiance of the show. Unfortunately, it got canceled and season 2 ends in a cliffhanger that's one for the books.

A little slow at the beginning but it grows on you as they give more information. Also, not much related but I think that people who liked V for Vendetta will like this one too.
