This is probably the closest to that classic Star Wars magic that the sequels got, original, fun creatures and planets, beautiful shots, colors, set pieces, and scenes. If the first movie was more like this in the original but familiar vibe of classic Star Wars, I feel that the sequels would've been more highly received. Also General Hux best general, at least in the sequels.
People be so mad that they introduced new force abilities like bruh, you rather have it never be changed or anything? A lot of expanded universe stuff and the games did the same but no one complains.
Also, the people in that theater who said "Where's Ben?" Is like going to heaven and asking where Mao is, the man was evil bruh, this ain't no Vader redeeming himself type of stuff. This ain't no family bonds or you could tell he cares about her type of thing like the original trilogy. He might've redeemed himself at the end but Death Vader you can tell he was never gonna kill his son or anything. It's also just a non-issue, it's like the littlest thing bruh. Like people really only wanted refunds because of that and her saying her name is Rey Skywalker like bruh you want her to say she's Rey Palpatine? Like if I was the granddaughter of like some terrible dictator and xenophobic person I would change my name too. It's all basically self-entitled man-children who want their own headcanons and politics in it.
Renfield looks like John Belushi. Acting is so bad sounds like they barely acted before or spoke English at all. And it isn't dubbed they are actually saying it in English I think. Music is kinda cool like a RPG game when you at a town or something resting. And did his wife give him the fucking salute when he left? Germany c'mon man it's 1979. At least the colors are cool, not too bold and bright but not too dark and colorless. And why when he said Dracula's castle that everyone looked at him like a soap opera or comedy bruh 3.8 my ass. If this was made in 2018 or something I bet you it'd be rated 3.1 or something. The shots are cool I guess but still kinda boring.
The shots, the color, and the quality are great especially for the time without digital 8k cameras and stuff. But the acting and the weird pacing is such a shame, only Nosferatu himself got any good acting at least physical acting not voice, but everyone else is like a b-movie actor or c-movie actor or something. And the clocks are cool. If this movie was silent maybe it would be way better. The choir music reminds me of Zelda :3
It appears that I'm watching the English version, idk if that means dubbed or they spoke actual English on set but I'll put the voice acting aside, hopefully on a rewatch I can see the original German version. The colors are very vivid especially in the third act, the best one so far. Maybe I was harsh on the acting but it is based on a silent German film from 1922 and that is based on a 1890s book so it's probably meant to be that way in a creepy way and not a bad acting way? Also it's German and the only other German movie I've seen is the original and Vampyr so maybe that's just how acting is there or something.
A very amazing movie for something this old, figured I would be bored or something. There's not a whole lot of action but action movies weren't a thing until like decades later so it's not a negative, being one of if not the first horror sound picture, at least the most popular of the first wave, it's pretty great. Bela is great in this and I had no idea Van Helsing was in this or the original book, I thought he was the comic character; Also the Lego Batman director is making a solo Renfield movie so I'm hype for that. Also why doesn't Van Helsing have a trench coat or a cool hat and why isn't he Wolverine, lmaoooo. Helen is also very hot and such a queen! Bela is also a king too! If he was alive today and the same age I bet all the ladies and men would be in love with him like RDJ or Leo Dicapo.
If the rubber bats make you rate this like less than 3 and a half stars bc it's not real bats or looks "cringe", that's cringe itself. People who complain about the bats the same who complain about marvel movies being "99% fake" like bruh all movies are fake unless it's a documentary, like if a book was fantasy would you say it's bad because it's not real? This has been my adhd review of 1931's Dracula thank you for reading my review of the movie that makes up 20% of this review and the other 80% about marvel and Van Helsing.
The humans got worse, I don't necessarily mean just acting wise, they just became assholes, they killed Ratchet for crying out loud, "my sister got killed in Chicago, you'll get no sympathy from me." What the Fuck? Who cares! The whole planet coulda got wiped out or even as low as the city, but go off I guess. I hate humans who say that shit in any sci-fi or superhero-type shit. Like okay, fuck you since you rather everyone die than someone you knew or family; like I would be grateful that other people got to live and not fucking turn into slaves or just outright killed. Like I get having everything be roses and flowers and shit would be boring but like jeez, at least the last three movies had human characters, I mean human-like in that they aren't just stuck in their ways and stuff. But maybe people would act this way in real life. I do like the idea though, not gonna lie. But still makes me mad how they get treated.
Mark Wahlberg's and Jack Reynor's characters are the only sane ones, everyone else is a paranoid asshat. If anyone needs to get pissed on like in the first movie, it would be the CIA guys, like jeez. T.J. Miller is great, as always. And where is Sam in all of this? Like I get they or he himself might not have wanted to be in any more of these movies but still, just feels incomplete. Also, love Oreo-Bot, he's so cool! One of the Dinobots made the Godzilla sound and it was cool!
I had to add this to TMDB so it would be on here and Trakt.tv. It's super fast to do so remember to add any obscure stuff like documentaries and stuff. Also, I know this isn't a flashy first movie for 2023 but Ice Cube is one of my favorite rappers so I feel he deserves the honor. I also enjoy nostalgic documentaries from the mid 90s to the mid 2000s. Also, it features a lot of early 90s rappers so if there is anyone you recognize that I didn't add to the TMDB base, be sure to add it or at least leave a comment here.
Filled with plenty of crowd banter of the man himself. It's like a Wikipedia page of Cube but with music and images and videos added in. Not bad for a small-budget documentary in 2004. The weird selection 1/3rd the way through where it just plays songs while listing albums and songs and collabs he has done was kinda a weird choice.
It then goes into the ghostwriter accusations against Ice Cube by Kam, the supposed writer of Cube's raps. It also says that Cube sent members of Da Lench Mob to record buzzing artists small and big, live to use for their album's styles and raps. But my understanding is that Raw Footage from 2008 is the second-best Cube album personally, and it was way after Kam broke off from Cube's label and broke their friendship off.
The documentary then goes into Cube's movie career. I haven't watched any of his movies besides Anaconda so I can't give much input. But at the end when he interviews people about Ice Cube, I love when one of the girls says bye and turns around and he records her ass . Also, the last one with the probable crackhead was funny.
