One of the worst and most hyped films I've ever seen. I absolutely don't get what this flick wants to tell me.
Besides that, it is neither thrilling nor entertaining, so I can only hope that there is a message and deeper meaning to it that I just don't get... However, I would recommend to stay away from it if you expect a SciFi thriller because I know for sure that Blade Runner is not thrilling at all.
screw what the critics say this is a really good movie it has lots of action and is well paced and doesn't drag at all the story is a lot better than the last one it's a very entertaining film if your a fan of the movies like I am seeing "raiders of the lost ark" when I was a kid you won't be disappointed
The warm, authentic 70s vibe emanating from this movie really is something. From the film grain, the lofi credits, the static camera with pan and zoom only, it really sells the aesthetic right from the jump and never lets up. On craft alone, The Holdovers is a worthy watch, but that would be a disservice to the melancholic-yet-heartwarming tale being told. While you could argue that the plot is one of trope and predictability, the warm blanket it provides is perfectly fitting, and offers just the right stage to explore these three unusual characters. A lovely story about connection and finding friendship in the unlikeliest people, The Holdovers is a delightful movie that I can't recommend enough, especially with it being the season and all.
Quintessential holiday classic…might just make it a yearly tradition. Giamatti masterclass
The whole cast was really well chosen, but Malek...Oh, Malek did just a phenomenal job here! He really shows his caliber as an actor, absolutely worth seeing!
This was a good movie but not a great movie (this will not be a popular opinion). First the good stuff: Lady Gaga was perfect for and in this role - acting singing, chemistry, song writing - all fantastic. The chemistry between Bradley Cooper and Gaga was believable and, at times, breathtaking. The first two thirds of the movie had a great arch and captured us (as a friend, who watched the movie with me, said, "I could watch the first part of this movie on repeat.") I am also a big fan of about 5 of the songs, and would add them to my library without hesitation, they are beautifully written. Now, the not so good stuff: the last third of the movie was too long - it could easily be cut by 20 minutes, but Bradley Cooper, as director, was more than a little self indulgent with his own scenes (we got the struggle, drawing it out didn't serve the storytelling). Ally's character arch was disappointing. As her star rose she didn't learn to love what Jack saw in her. She didn't learn to take ownership of her own story, the very gift Jack was trying to give her. Ally's story wasn't resolved until the very last moments of the movie, it was eclipsed by Bradley's directorial obsession with Jack's decline, belying the original premise of all the STAR IS BORN movies and lessening her triumph. I guess what moved it from great to good, for me, was that the first two thirds proved it could be great but the last third got hijacked (no pun intended). I give this film a 7 (good) out of 10. Sorry Angelina, you're in the past now.
Alicia Vikander is phenomenal in this movie, and I appreciate the italian version of the movie for not dubbing her "screams" and "moans" because they are fantastic and add to an already adrenaline pumping movie.
The movie is the same as the first reboot game on the "next" gen, personally I did not play it, but I did play the second one and if they are going to make the next movie the same as the game, it's gonna be even greater!
This cinematic reboot is a rollercoaster. Lara's ability to come out of situation is always a bittersweet taste of disbelief that makes you love it even more. But, in this movie they took a nice step back to her and so we get to see a more inexperienced Lara. Because of this, every failed step doesn't look... "fake" as it did (in my opinion) with the original Jolie movies where she was a badass from starters, feared and known by everyone and still went on about and made stupid mistakes which didn't make sense really.
I gotta say that if you let yourself be immersed, the suspense in some of the scenes is thick and palpable. The line between mythos and reality is thin, but it develops perfectly near the end without resulting boring or monotonous.
Regarding every other aspect of cinematography: I have to say, some of the CGI felt a bit cheap, but usually is surmounted by the amount of action the movie delivers, sound editing and engineering was on point, note that there aren't really big, romatic or thought-provoking photografical shots, but it's to be expected in an action movie.
Alicia Vikander is perfect for the role. I absolutely loved her for the entire runtime and she honestly kept my interest up entirely on her own.
I don't know if Square Enix is to be thanked for the level of quality and "textuality" of who Lara Croft is and what Tomb Raider is about, but I think it's a safe bet and I hope it stays this way.
Please if you have the choice, watch the movie in english, it might sound creepy or weird, but Alicia's screams are fuckin fire in this movie, it gives depth and dignity to the struggle of a character that is supposed to be strong.
Great movie, which gave me a couple of laughs and kept me entertained the whole time.
The cast has good chemistry and does a great job. Ryan Reynolds basically plays his funny and saracastic Deadpool/talkshow persona, which I personally really enjoy.
Would recommend and looking forward to the sequel :fingers_crossed_tone1:!
When my filmmaker friend told me this movie was the best thing he’d seen this year, I knew it had to be good. But wow, did it exceed my expectations. I agree - this is absolutely the best film I have seen this year.
From the top, you’re hit with the 1970s pastiche all over this movie and there’s an immediate coziness to it that never goes away. Whether we’re isolated at a New England boarding school with four characters over winter break or in the middle of Boston, there seems to be a sense of lived-in belonging that you just want to be a part of. (Perhaps part of that, for me, comes from a massive amount of nostalgia for a New England holiday season.)
All of the characters, for all of their flaws and quirks, are immediately likable - you want to know more about them, and the movie gives you that in the best, most natural way: through conversation, and sometimes, quiet moments alone. The three leads - Paul Giamatti, Dominic Sessa, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph - bring such truth and humanity to their roles that you don’t want to separate from them.
The plot moves slowly, but the atmosphere and characters are the real draw here. Don’t get me wrong - this movie is FUNNY. Dry, yes, but I laughed a lot. I also cried a lot. This movie touches on abandonment, depression, loss, and the deprivation of potential - but also the power of conviction, connection, found family, and the power in the unknown laid out before you.
I mean, really, what a cast! Karen Gillian! Lena Headey! Michelle Yeoh! Angela Bassett! Serious butt kicking action ladies! The premise is somewhere between KILL BILL and Film Noir (without the voice over). Life is cheap, violence is the norm, one girl can take out 29 heavily armed men. The whole film is hyperbolic, the mood is darkly humorous. A good way to waste some time not thinking. I give the film a 7(good) out of 10. [Action]
The weaker it gets, the louder it gets. The less creative it gets, the busier it gets. And it was very loud and very busy.
A fun, silly new mystery with the old gang. I appreciated that the story was centered on Lassiter this time since Omundson was unable to fully participate in the last movie due to his stroke. I would be totally onboard with the current trend of this cast reuniting to make a movie every three years continuing indefinitely; it's reliable comfort viewing.
Wow, what a heavy true story. Very emotional film, so hard to watch. I'm angry and sad. I just couldn't finish watching it. As John Le Carre said about the book: ‘A vision of hell, beyond Orwell, beyond Kafka’.
The Mauritanian just shows you how the US is the greatest offender of human dignity. Americans are just as evil as they come. This movie is a great reminder of America's real image and how fucked up, how deeply depraved they are.
Mohamedou Ould Salahi was held for fourteen years without being charged for a crime. 14 years without charges!! Unacceptable! And Salahi could have seen his mother if only Obama, (Americans liberals favorite 'hero') had not opposed his release. Obama extended the man’s sentence for 7 years after he won his freedom because why not? Yanks can do it.
The Mauritanian, critical of American atrocities, totally shut out of the Oscars. What a big, huge surprise.
I don't get the low rates on this movie. If you want a spacial bang bang go watch Star Wars, and leave theses kinds of movies to more mature audiences
One of my absolute favorite movies. Being a Star Trek fan, it lets me laugh at/with Star Trek without belittling it at all. Every actor is spot-on. The whole movie just gets everything right.
I've missed these crazy characters. As usual, the mystery here isn't the focal point, but it's still solid and it still gets solved. No, the focus is the characters and their interactions and, most importantly, the real-world ties that led to this Lassie-centric episode. I can usually tell when a cast is tight, and this group convinced me early on that they got along just fine when the cameras stopped rolling. So it didn't surprise me that they all took Omundson's stroke hard and went out of their way to make him a big part of this one, and I love 'em all for that. And other than a few isolated moments when the comedic timing was showing a bit of rust, this one was otherwise cringe-free and a ton of fun. And man, it was great to see Omundson doing so well after such a serious scare and setback. Here's hoping that he continues to make such an amazing recovery, and I hope that we see another of these movies sooner, rather than later.
I know! You construct a weapon. Look around, can you Form some sort of rudimentary lathe?

So much fun! Just an underrated spoof.
:alien::octopus::rocket:
too many of you guys are coming on here crying and complaining about a movie that was meant to be as silly as this was. get your thumbs out your butt and just enjoy the craziness of it all. this movie was pretty good. it's not meant to be a masterpiece or a copy of kill Bill or John wick like you clowns keep saying. it's his own little parody of all those action flicks. smh.
After all these years, i finally take time to see that movie... Boring till the end :-(
