I read a tweet this morning that said "we're rapidly approaching early 2000's nostalgia" and I Like Movies perfectly encapsulates that trend. It's not quite transparent plastics and Motorola Razr levels of heavy handed, but it does cosily frame the era with the suitably rose tinted glasses that all of us that grew up through it are partial to wearing. Endearing characters with endearing performances, this disjointed but weirdly-realistic coming-of-age drama is more touching than it is funny; watching these trapped, stuck individuals transition from their respective ruts onto the next stage of their lives is relatable and well presented. Life lessons are learned, people change and grow; it's just nice, heart-warming viewing for fans of slice of life dripping in nostalgic comfiness. It also added about 10 movies to my ever growing backlog, so I'm gonna need that Sequels employee benefit.
Charming, solid performances from the entire cast and spot-on nostalgia for the time period, as well as some nice emotional beats. It captured a lot of those feelings of high school and the start of the transition out of it.
I'd RULE THE WORLD MUHAHAHAHAHAHA! But seriously a nice heart warming film
Old cartoons are so funny and heartbreaking at the same time. I really miss classic cartoon style in movies and tv series. We need more creations like this one!
What a wonderful movie about friendship and fear.
10 years have passed, and it’s also good! The watchability is simply excellent. In addition to good science fiction, it’s like watching all the main blockbusters about the war at once. There’s room for jokes and Murray’s vibe. And about the ending? After all, the movie is based on, and differs from the original, like “The Last Samurai” from Kurosawa’s films. Whatever is neither good nor bad, just different and self-sufficient. I haven’t leafed through the manga, but the light novel has been published. Read it, it’s tougher and more honest. Like another facet
I have went from liking this movie to loving it over the years...How can you go wrong with Tom Cruise in a weaponized Endoskeleton vs End of Humanity Alien Invasion
Whenever you´ve had a bad day try a Muppet movie. Works for me every time.
