truly one of the most harrowing episodes of svu. i've seen it a few times during marathons and even knowing the ending i spend the entire thing in total distress
this belongs to that weird category of thriller/horror stuff that's rooted entirely too much in the banality of day to day life that gives me anxiety and yet catch me starting the second episode already
in this episode (and like six others): a prosecutor leaves olivia because they can't be objective around her shining beaming sunshine of a soul
ming-na wen is so wonderful :sob:
i know we have to have lawyers but i think buchanan is the only one on svu that is an irredeemable piece of garbage.
olivia: tells a lie
stabler: you crossed a line liv
stabler last episode: almost strangles a man to death
logan marshall-green is real good at playing bad guys and has been all this time, wow
barba would be so proud tbh. i love episodes that show a character's way of coping with stress and crisis. also, best exchange:
carisi: the jury's been out for DAYS
rollins: it's been three hours.
ceci gonna need a lot of therapy
tbh i would watch a whole series of olivia doing hostage negotiation
brooke shields and mariska hargitay's scenes together are so great.
the ending is really tender and sweet but y'all teenagers are so hard to get through compared to that
kim is quite possible the most intolerable character ever on svu my blood pressure spikes just like amanda's did every time she's on screen
episodes involving refugees and immigration always hit the hardest
god such an upsetting episode but at least it had a good resolution
aside from the obvious issues with the whole motive, jackie blaine is a terrible counselor purely based on the fact that she didn't tell ANYONE that hailey was regularly experiencing suicidal thoughts. you're a mandatory reporter when you work with children, you report when a child is being harmed or is at risk of harming themselves or others.
surely the da's office would've been held accountable for this absolute disaster??
is that the first iphone ive seen on svu
emily van camp i wonder if she affected that higher pitched voice since she was 20 in this episode and definitely has a lower pitch in like every other thing i've watched her in.
rewatching svu has shown me just how much earlier seasons fed into the misconceptions that victims of childhood sexual abuse grow up to perpetrate it themselves
this episode is literally 16 years old who would've thought it would just get a million times worse :sob:
the guest stars in this episode are wild but even more wild is to hear the son talk about computer AI like it's a futuristic near impossibility
"except juliet is too young and romeo is too old" who wrote this script that's literally the plot of romeo and juliet
cw for anyone who's trans and has dysphoria issues: unlike some of the old svu episodes, this one really reflects the culture of its time, so be aware there's a trans person referred to by male pronouns even by someone stating the victim was seeking a sex change (MTF). the victim is also referred to by a couple things that are considered slurs by today's standards.
there are a lot of amazing acting moments in this episode but ESPECIALLY carisi's scene with the ohio da near the end. moments like those are when it's easy to forget that you're watching a procedural show.
tfw even your drug addict girlfriend is big grossed out by you taking money to give a man consent to marry your 13 year old daughter
lucy liu directed this episode!! i had no idea first time around.
this series rewatch made me realize svu hasn't touched on family annihilators much
one of those episodes that really highlights the morally gray areas of the world. i know where i personally stand as someone who signed up as an organ donor the moment i got my license and who's donated blood and plasma. i know that if i were in the situation the parents were in, i would have consented immediately—and if i hadn't, i would have found closure in the decision the doctor made without my consent, given how i was raised. i absolutely wouldn't want my child's organs back. the way the father reacted, i understand; the mother, not at all. but at the end of the day, the narcissism of this doctor to think that she was doing the world some great service by forging dozens of consent forms instead of just asking the families in a compassionate and humane way? man, i just can't reconcile that part.
i honestly miss barba most of all in the latest seasons.
