Gets hit by truck in front of highschool yet no one notices ppphhhffrrrrttt you corned me out that quick you shiney bastards
Maybe I was expecting more from this movie, but this really wasn't good. The movie does have it's moments, it can be sweet and caring and I would say the acting is good.
This feels more like a male fantasy of what a lesbian relationship looks like than what these two women with their specific histories would actually do and say to each other.
I've noticed Japan's getting better with producing quality BL films/dramas, but they still have room for improvement in their GL.
My main reason for watching was because of Mizuhara-san, and I wanted to give Japan another chance for GL themed films. Also, the casting choice seemed pretty solid, and Netflix picked it up, so I thought, "why not?"
Although it was appreciative that the main leads have a connected backstory, the film's plot is all over the place. Mizuhara's character's actions throughout the film were quite questionable. I would interpret her character as maybe bi (?). The goals of these two leads made no sense to me. I could see what falling in love feels like, especially to a person you could never have. You lose a sense of logic and wish for that person's happiness, and sometimes you find yourself to be selfish. But killing someone and losing it all, that aspect and how the film executed it seemed very extreme and unrealistic. What bothered me the most was the toxic relationship between the women. Despite killing off the abusive husband, Nanae still was not free from the inner struggles. Rei's action, including towards Nanae, didn't seem sincere either.
A bit similar to my thoughts on "The cornered mouse dreams of cheese", I felt sorry for the supporting characters affected by the main lead's actions. Don't get me wrong, I felt bad for the main leads upbringing, but many of their situations could have been easily avoided.
OST - Music was pretty decent and chill. It was very obvious they used English songs to attract a wider audience. Cherry by Yui was a huge symbolic ost in the film. Nice use of it.
Overall, I believe with a better story structure and direction, this film could have been better executed. Hopefully, the crew, staff and Japan are open to considering people's feedback on the film for future GL films/drama.
If you're into the dark thriller drama, including GL, and don't mind switching off your brain for a while then, go for it.
If you're looking for a decent GL with a strong story and relationship, this may not be for you.
I watched a fantastic video that focused more on the murderer Chris Watts’ abysmal turn in the interrogation. It focuses a lot less on Shanann (which is a good thing because the documentary throwing mean comments towards her did nothing for the story). Check out JCS Criminal Psychology Chris Watts for a better analysis if you are interested in the case.
I don't even know where to start on this movie. The cinematography, the plot, the costumes, the soundtrack and the acting are all the best I've seen in a LONG time. This is one of the greatest movies I have ever watched. I could elaborate, but it would take up all day. And as a young, gay woman, thank you for making a lesbian couple that wasn't just for the male gaze, where one didn't die off and where the story wasn't just about them coming out / discrimination. Yes to more movies of people who just happen to be gay and that's not the point of the story! Cheers!
Icarus played a little trick on me. It made me think in was one of those daft wee 'how much can I fuck up my body' docs when really it was a massively tense international sport/politics conspiracy with added old-man nipples.
Jessica Forever is like a party you think is going to be great when you arrive, but then everyone starts talking about their personal issues which don't even have the decency to be interesting. Eventually you'll wonder who the hell invited you to begin with, and why the hell you decided to come.
Jessica Forever is the 'brain' child of a French directing duo. They've won awards for their shorts, and this is their first feature. Sort of. Because when you watch this, you realise it's a short that has been stretched to the point of breaking in order to make it long enough.
And more's the pity, because there is a lot here that is worth keeping. The music is engaging, the directing is competent and the cinematography is, at times, stunning. Sadly, no matter how hard you try to like this film, the ridiculous lack of a story is going to do everything it can to stop you.
Doubles Vies / Non-fiction is a boy having tea parties with his dolls and making them say out loud what he thinks, except the boy is Olivier Assayas and the dolls are his poor actors.
This was billed as a comedy, but that word must mean something different in French (like maybe 'laughable', because the script was certainly that). In fact, Non-fiction is every cliché about French films, where the 'plot' consists in pseudo-intellectual caviar-democrats making speeches at cocktail parties and cheating on their partners.
I feel terrible for the number of words Assayas killed to make this film, but at least now I feel vindicated for disliking Personal Shopper. Non-fiction is another example of function over form, where the film's function is to air out Assayas's personal life and fantasies, which are neither as interesting nor as exciting as he supposes them to be.
this movie made me a lesbian
I was like sure baby you can play whatever you like tonight... Now I'm all mushy n shit and we're cuddling wtf I was duped bro
Oh, this was f*cking fabulous.
9/10
Tony is the real MVP. Putting together a nice spaghetti dinner for two random dogs and then playing the accordion so they get in the mood.
After this, I'm sure I'll have no kids.
Despite it being visually and conceptually stunning, the film turned out to be extremely slow and actionless for my taste.
Many people think that the aforementioned positive qualities outweight the negative, but personally, I think that narrative must prevail over visuals, soundtracks, effects or symbolisms.
Charlize Theron gives one of the best female performances in the last decade, unfortunately the rest of the movie does not reach the level of her brilliance. Well worth the watch for Theron's performance.
Wild ride from start to finish. In the beginning I thought the acting was questionable but either it got better or you just kinda figured that that's the way the characters where. It was fucking amazing, tbh.
can't believe i support miss elisa and her thicc fish bae
I've never had an ED but I think it was a great movie. I don't think it glamorizes anything, which I know a lot of people were worried about when the trailer came out.
I really liked the soundtrack and the acting was also really good. Lily Collins did as excellent job, as well as Keanu Reeves.
i adore how real judi was she is a natural.
i fell in love with victoria all over and felt i need to know all about her life. one of my top 5 movies i cant comment on it as i would love to
EDIT: upon rewatch, I believe the open bar and pageantry of the premiere enabled me to put on goggles that shielded me from the trainwreck that is this film. Rian Johnson is a sorry excuse for a writer. It will probably be retconned at least 5 times in episode 9.
World Premiere Review: Vague, Spoiler-Free Edition
It was amazing. It still does nostalgic fan service, but nowhere near what Episode 7 or Rogue One felt like. It feels like its own film. It gets a little slow and repetitive in the last half of the first third of the film, but after the major show down in the middle of the film, it's non-stop action that's brilliantly paced. GO SEE IT!
I enjoyed this much more than I was expecting. Sudekis is up there with my favourite SNL cast members and he didn't disappoint.
Jen was... just... wipes drool. She's great with comedy and I really enjoyed seeing her working with Jason (previously in Horrible Bosses together).
Easy and enjoyable to watch. Throw it on next time you're in the mood to laugh mindlessly.
ps - watch the outtakes... certainly worth it.
Mother! was a moving experience. I think if you go in with an open mind you won’t be disappointed. If you’re looking for a standard horror film then see something else. If you want to see something original, Mother! is one of the best I’ve seen this year.
Visceral, astonishing, creepy, mind blowing, a flick of nature.
I loved Loving Vincent. The plot is interesting (a young man delivering a letter from the late Vincent Van Gogh to the painter's brother, Theo, winds up investigating the circumstances around the artist's suicide), but the story is only half the story. The real reason to see this film is the animation. Billed as "The world's first fully oil painted feature film", Loving Vincent takes Van Gogh's best known art works and breathes life into them by weaving them into the scenario. As a fan of Van Gogh, the visuals for this movie left me breathless and will stay with me for a long while. One of the best films of the year.
Easily one of the worst comedies of 2011.
Wes Anderson = film genius
Thor: The Dark World has Natalie Portman. Unfortunately, that's basically all the movie has going for it and the rest of it's about as mediocre as I expected. In fact, even her role's incredibly boring, and Thor continues to be the dullest Avenger with the script being the worst Marvel's done since the first Thor. Very generic but, of course, I'll still end up watching the next one.
Darcy is so great. Kat Dennings should've had even more screentime in this.
The design for this movie was magnificent. Props to all the creative minds who worked on it.
Aww what a lovely film with a lot of mixed emotions, but mostly from the script, a good sense of humour. Brilliant performance from Nadine (Hailee steinfeld) that I think she should go far with and not forgetting the rest of the cast that did just as good. I specially loved Mr Bruner (woody Harrelson) performance with his nasty, sarcastic sense of humour with a twist, and with all the characters he's played in his acting life it suits him.
