As someone who has read the books multiple times and I will always give movie/TV shows a lot of leeway I couldn't continue watching this after the 2nd episode. I typically give a show 3 episodes to engage me, but after killing a ROCK troll with a CROSSBOW bolt it was just too much. You cannot have The Watch without Detritus. Detritus was the only character they got (sorta) right in the episodes I watched, everything was too jarringly different and made it difficult for a fan to enjoy.
Back when series was announced I imagined how it would look like, and this is exactly that!
This is the best adaptation of a video game. If you compare to the next biggest one - Last Of Us, that one was about following game’s story and focusing on characters and adding lot more drama.
With Fallout it actually replays some game moments and certain inside jokes without looking like a game at all.
Great that it’s not made “safe for all audiences”. This is bold, making story about severed head, cutting fingers on-screen! Main character has no nose. All the rivers of blood and guts! And notice how while we see all that gore, but when the dog is getting shot the camera cuts away :)
There’s too much story to tell and it shows. Most of the time it feels like we are being shown only half, if not less than half of the story. It could have been made much longer without losing anything. And many great actors like Michael Rapoport and Matt Berry only have one scene. They easily could have their own episodes.
Flashbacks are so amazing, just unbelievable and exceeds all expectations.
This is, hands down, the most immersive adaptation of a video game I've ever watched.
I'd go so far as to say Fallout is in a league of its own. Because, unlike most other adaptations, it's an engrossing original story that expands the franchise's universe and fleshes out much of its lore.
The attention to details of the show is phenomenal. Fallout fans will instantly recognize faithful recreations of in-game elements, such as the Junk Jet, Pip-Boys, power armors and their UIs, Dogmeat's sound effects, just to name a few.
What an incredible fan service! Congratulations, Mr. Howard. This time, it really does "just work".
On the flipside, viewers who are not into the games may not appreciate the gore and dark humor that's quintessentially Fallout.
My Season 2 wishlist/predictions: Assaultrons, deathclaws, energy weapons, and a UFO crashing
Awesome first season so far! 10/10 for me.
I've never played the Fallout games and as someone who doesn't know anything about the franchise I found this season very good, the series addresses several important points related to war and the domination of large corporations. And the way the story is told, alternating between past and present, everything fits together well, not to mention the arc of the main characters who are all interconnected, I can't forget the post-apocalyptic setting as I really enjoy this theme. It was all very well crafted, I really enjoyed it, I couldn't stop watching and I'm already looking forward to a second season.
Just binged the entire thing, I liked it personally and think they did a great job.
Having been a die-hard fan of the video games I have high hopes (but low expectations) that this show will be awesome! I felt Silo had a very Fallout feel to them and if this is at least as good as Silo has been then this will be a winner!
They F'ing NAILED IT! Awesome show, fantastically staying true to the video game and now on my favorite shows in a very long time. Thanks for not screwing us on this one!
They completely nailed the look, feel and vibe of the games and it's fucking amazing.
Much better than the movie. Two episodes in and I'm hooked.
P.S. Sadly, after whole season, I don't feel the same. Not sure why, but my hype for the show kinda fizzled out.
The feel for the whole show is a meh (5), but I gave it fair (6) score just because of hype from beginning.
Just seeing the Marvel Spotlight at the beginning made me know this was going to be different than what we have been seeing lately from the cookie cutter movie style Marvel uses for everything.
The show absolutely broke the mold Marvel has been using; and while I enjoyed Ms. Marvel, which tried to break the mold but really didn't, they were able to do so with this. The story was different, very Marvel Knight-esque in terms of how it plays out, but it was a really cool side story for a character we didn't see much of, but she was badass when we did.
In a time when we are lacking a lot new content, this show did not only fill a content void, it did so exceeding my expectations of Yet Another Marvel Anything.
Just watched the first 2 episodes, and it's a solid start to the show. Loved the actors chosen.
I have not read the shirt stories yet, so no clue if it's faithful to it. But I loved the premise and this 2 episodes. Hope it keeps on delivering. If you like Sci Fi, give this one a watch.
Disregard the rating. Has been there for months before the show was on air.
With a solid start and an interesting story. If you like crime drama, give this one a shot.
WOW. This is a masterpiece of storytelling. The casting was stellar and the performances were magical. The cinematography captured the grittiness of occupied France and the horrors of the invaders were on full display. If I have any complaints in the storytelling they might be twofold, all Germans were portrayed as the darkest of evil (I don’t believe it was that black and white) and the connection between Werner and Marie was a little too much of a rushed fairytale at the end. But, the whole was a wonderful romantic journey, in the classical sense of the power of lofty ideals rather than in human attraction. I give this limited series a 9 (superb) out of 10. [Historical Drama]
I need season 2 now! What a great show. Best show I’ve seen in years!!
Just finished watching season 1. Highly recommend really good show
1st of all...this is sci-fi for adults. I started watching because as a sci-fi fan the previews for season 2 looked good and then I looked up the score for season 1 and was like ooof 50 percent. I am super glad I pushed play it has been a very fun watch... yesss there is a lot of character development and story compared to just showing human vs alien action scenes the whole time...it's slow and effective because unlike the negative reviewers..I am not a child I am also a parent and an adult so we more easily insert ourselves into terrifying situations especially when the acting is very good and the post apocalyptic look and feel is done so well
Superb final episode. Exactly what you would expect from a John Wick spin-off. I hope there will be a season 2 showing how the Continental and Winston progress. :thumbsup_tone1: Really liked the Music. Well worth a watch. :thumbsup_tone1:
Very good start to this short season. Great action, with a good storyline about Winston and The Continental. :thumbsup_tone1: Well worth a watch :thumbsup_tone1:
Great so far. F*** the haters, some people don't know their elbow from their arsehole, so why the hell should their opinions matter?
I was hating this series, the slow pacing, the unbelievable character arcs, until I realised it's a live action anime. If you allow for the over the top actions based on an manga (or anime) logic, it becames damn good. The problem is that it's billed as a Sci-Fi series wich comes with different expectations in terms of suspension of disbelief and it doesn't work when you face it expecting real world believable responses to extraordinary events. Like Mitsuki basically giving zero fucks to billions of people because she wants to save her girlfriend or being the only one capable of communicating with the alien ship. When you apply anime logic and suspension of disbelief, the series becomes suddenly very good because it becomes instantly "in universe consistent". Still a bit slow paced but not bad at all.
I liked this show for a few reasons.
1-good character development and storytelling without just making it another brainless “hey, look, aliens destroying stuff!”
2-many complain about the pace. Yes it was slow, but it was refreshing to not blow a wad in the first 5 minutes of the season.
3-beautiful visuals and shots.
You won’t like it if:
If you like to watch and get into shows vs sitting there in your phone with shows in the background, give it a chance, it might surprise you.
I loved it. The story develops in a slow pace. I like the characters and most actors are doing a great job. Found it very entertaining.
This show requires patience. It's slow and told very much from a ordinary human perspective. However it pays off well from midway onwards. Many people who seem to write badly of the show have done so early on, judging by the dates on the comments.
Don't go into this thinking of it as a action epic, it's very much a drama with bits of action. Some characters are rather unlikeable too at times which is a bit of a odd choice in some places. But the story rewards the viewer the longer you keep with it.
Looking forward to season 2.
I don't know why people are giving lower ratings and comments. It's getting very curious all the time for me, and I really like this show.
This was really great show. Whoever rated low can go somewhere else. I really wanted sci-fi like that and how it takes aim at different stories was very interesting.
Not sure why this is rated so low?? People just want instant gratification of aliens dominating the world or what?
This show is a bit of a slow burn… maybe. The characters are deeply developed and you are witnessing the invasion through their eyes. It’s a beautiful and moving story so far with IMO a nice balance of alien sci-fi. I really enjoyed the whole season and couldn’t wait until the next episode. Definitely at the top of my watch list.
Despite the huge amount of disappointment from so many on this show, I loved it. I loved that this alien invasion drama was not America-centric for one, that is a big step forward for me in telling a "global" crisis-level story, and I found it starkly contrasting that the largest representation of American influence was from the war-minded General who said the only response is nuclear and boom there we have it. Seemingly turned the tide but probably opened the door for what is the greater threat to come which is, who sent these aliens. A global crisis should involve a global cast, and for such a massive story, they did spend an incredible amount of time in developing the human drama and for me, from that angle, they involved our imagination when actually confronting aliens first-hand. I found this show, slow at times, no doubt, but ultimately enjoyable. It's a different approach to an invasion story which was not wrapped in a nice neat bow at the end.
I just watched the 1st episode. They didn't skimp on the super fight choreography. I love the concept of how this is a prequel to the rise of Winston Scott, who eventually became the manager of The Continental. The episodes are an hour and a half long. I can't wait for the next two to drop.
