VIP8Man, this time I thought I was keeping perfect track of everything and had some theories lined up, surely they couldn't pull the rug from under us again... most of what I thought ended up being just dead wrong, I'm a fool, can't believe it haha. They pulled the "different timelines" trick of Season 1 mixed with the "fidelity time jump" trick of Season 2, and I definitely need to watch this one again.
So basically, everything we've seen with Caleb and Maeve (including the past stuff shown in this episode) happened in the few years following Season 3, but then they "died". Hale then dominates the world, and over two decades later, I guess there's only a faction of humans that remain, including Caleb's daughter, and that's when Bernard begins doing his stuff / Dolores begins realizing things are strange. The twist makes a lot of sense... knowing this, I'm super excited to see what the show becomes now.
What I'm most curious about is finding out exactly what Hale is doing, because it seems like the hosts aren't really aware of what went down and just "live life" normally in the world - so rather than just being a "human vs hosts" situation, at least it looks like Hale is also playing god even among the hosts, plus, humans are being made into hosts, such as Caleb. I wonder why, and also wonder if William is still being kept alive.
The biggest question though... was Stubbs just sitting down waiting for 30 years for Bernard to be back? lol

@kobak When Caleb asked if she was going to make him kill himself she said she wouldn't do that to him because Delores and Meave were so fond of him and she she was intrigued by it. So maybe she kept him alive for that reason

@reveriecode Everything was telegraphed from the start of the season. It was painfully obvious, unless you weren't paying attention.
About Stubbs, he wasn't sitting down waiting. He said he was taking care not to disturb Bernard, that's why he was covered in dust while the room was clean.
I don't see why they'd obey her, she had no way to force them...

@unexpectedtyron I know what the hell!? Lower all of her attributes. This pissed me off the entire episode, hit an alarm, walk out the door.
You'd think a multi-million dollar show would have a better action sequence. What on earth was that scene where Ahsoka , Sabine and Ezra are dodging bullets from over 50 storm troopers , oh my god. That was sooo bad. Even I would have directed a better action sequence.
There is so much fury in Rosario Dawson's face while battling , but we can hardly see any of that in her fights and the result is embarrassingly cringe .
So we finished one complete season and we still haven't gotten a clue as to what Baylon Skoll's arc is? The actor has passed away , rest his soul , so I wonder what on earth would they do now .
The storm troopers usually have a zero plot armour in the movies , here they have been dialled down to -100.
And the director's idea to wrap up this garbage of a finale was to show a glimpse of Anakin in the end? Do you expect us to give a standing ovation for that?
Very very disappointing

Yes, that is exactly what they expect – us just to scream mindlessly because "hey, that's the guy from the old thing!" And many will.

@sheldon1985 "The show had an entire episode dedicated to the relationship between Anakin and Ahsoka "
yeah that's where it should have ended . And why did they even show Anakin in the end? Do you think Ahsoka did anything significant in those last few moments for them to show a glimpse of Anakin just like that?
I'd agree with you statement if they had showed a glimpse of him when she did anything redeeming , maybe like when she let Shin go instead of just killing her?
"You didn't pay attention to the show or you're just looking for things to nitpick about"
I'm just stating things which are bad about the show and which didn't make any sense. Sorry for hurting your fanboy sentiment.

VIP7What is the point in these ships even having weapons systems? The star destroyer couldn't even shoot a super basic defenceless ship out of the sky! It has been utterly infuriating watching the action sequences in this show.
"I will do what I must" made me cringe. It was like bad fan fiction. The fight wasn't great, though it was definitely better than the fight back in episode 3 of the show.
Reva might just be the most pathetic force user of all time. How the hell did a couple of random farmers hold their own against her? Again, the action in this show has been consistently dreadful - just straight-up bad decisions by the writing team, and laughably poor choreography. Also, she literally just took a lightsaber to the gut hours ago and was left for dead, yet now she suddenly appears absolutely fine walking around on Tattoine? WHAT IS THIS SHOW?
Glad we got the Qui-Gon cameo at the end though.

This actually is an overall decent finale. The tense in Camina's fleet is good. The Rocinante battle is good. Naomi's rescue is good. The reveal on the end was also good. However there's one reason that makes the episode feels like a jumble of choppily edited scenes: everything involving Alex's death.
I don't take issue with it being sudden and abrupt, as many deaths are. But everyone feels really disconnected from that one incident that should have affected at least all the main casts. Alex just died, but Holden and Naomi spent their time to listen to Naomi's supposed farewell (and spent minutes on it). Amos was more eager to bring Peaches instead of mourning his close friend; even worse he was only informed about Alex's death off screen. For a fellow Martian and somebody who has spent quite a time with Alex, Bobbie seems largely unaffected at all. And Alex, well... The only tribute they gave to this incident is a plaque, which makes for some emotional moment, but that's it. Heck, that part where Holden talked to Naomi to rekindle the events almost feels like Holden breaking the fourth wall to explain to viewers due to how abrupt it is handled.
It almost feels like the event is not supposed to happen, and the showrunners edited in last minutes.
This season has been nothing but a Naomi season that leads to a reunion of Rocinante crew. That incident stuck like a sore thumb, making the supposedly joyful event with all crews gathering feels really emotionally detached. Not to mention that, barring the reveal at the end, most events still happen off screen. Just like most things that happened this season. We don't get to see the impact of something big happening.
So despite being an overall decent episode, this finale closes the relatively most mediocre season The Expanse has produced. I'd even say that the quality is even lower than Season 4. The first four episodes were nice, but it went downhill and stagnated really fast.

@xaliber because it was not supposed to be there. Alex's actor was cut from the cast due to being convicted of a sexual misconduct case and the directors handled the change very poorly imo.

@xaliber completely agree. I get the feeling people not taking issue with Alex's death confused the actor with the character. They just want to see Cas go whatever it takes. Shitty actor ain't an excuse for a shitty film.

@dtsouza oh for god's sake, save that mediocre exaggerative defense for shows with rabid fans like Mandalorian. Nobody said it has to be done in exaggeration. The death scene only needs to be planned, like Fred's death. Like I said, many deaths were abrupt; what makes the death feels real is how it was edited between the scenes & how others react to it. What we got was obviously a frozen frame of Alex in previous scene with an added CGI blood. It was an unplanned hurried edit that resulted in a bad, chugged in scene.
This is my review so I comment on whatever I wanted. And you're the one who nitpicked that one point regarding Alex's death out of five points I've written. Then the problem is on you.

@dtsouza I watched the season knowing Cas Anvar's scandal. That's why it makes the episode feels even more extremely awkward. Alex's death itself is forcefully edited in that it's not immediately clear that he died from a stroke (so much they need Holden to explain it to the viewers in the next scene). Many have come to defend his abrupt death by mentioning the beeping monitor, but we don't even see the monitor with three dots on the brain except for the very last moments at a glance and very briefly in the start.
I'm aware of that interpretation of the scene you mentioned, but it just didn't work out for me. It only became beautiful for the viewers due to us knowing Cas' scandal, but is not as meaningful for the Rocinante crews themselves. They were still talking about their own (Naomi & Holden) relationship, in the end.
Especially because prior playing Naomi's recording, when they did talk about Alex it was Holden explaining to the viewers how Alex died. That dialogue was really bad. Not to mention that the dialogue was supposed to be Holden explaining Fred's death to Naomi, making it even worse, especially for The Expanse standard.

All that Naomi said there can be applied to Alex's death. I thought it was beautiful because of that and now I realize a lot of people missed it.

@lat the players were told that whoever win 6 games will walk out with the prize money. They don't know there will be only one. Sang Woo is very opportunistic and shows that he'd do anything to win, right from the very start. Additionally Sang Woo might be worried the other two will vote to terminate the game. It's strange that the policeman didn't shoot to kill but idk he might've simply missed.

Otis is seriously pissing me off this season. Back in season 1 he was, for the most part, "compellingly odd" as Maeve once said. This season, however, he's been doing nothing but antagonizing everyone around him from his mother to Jakob to Ola to Maeve and it's annoying as hell. The speech he made in this episode was just a bunch of self-righteous bullshit. I've been shipping him with Maeve from the start, but tbh now I think Maeve deserves better than this entitled little shit.
loading replies
@aniela-krajewska I get where you’re coming from and I agree he was being hugely annoying this episode (then again most people are when they get shitfaced in an emotional state). However, it’s also Otis who has been antagonised all through this season. He just boiled over this episode. I think he also had a right to express his feelings at the dinner table, when no one else dared. Hey not even his mother could honestly talk about hers. I actually agreed with Otis there.
You’re also forgetting how he’s always trying to help everyone even when he doesn’t really want to. He always puts others first. And then this mess comes out of it, where he feels like he’s just the one getting trampled on. I totally can’t be mad at that.
As long as Otis catches himself again, it‘a just an outbreak.
Yaaas, I'm so glad Otis sees Adam as I do! I honestly don't understand why do people support him over Rahim. Rahim was sweet from the first moment and didn't have a single bad word towards Eric (or anyone else). Maybe Eric feels "special"(?) because the bully started to have feelings for him, but I 100% agree with Otis - Eric hid this fact and their sneak-outs because deep down he, too, knows that Adam is not a good person.
And how glad I am that he realized this and chose Rahim!I saw that coming from Ola when she accidentally leaned a little close to Lily in the previous episode (or 2 episodes ago?). Though the way she handled things with Otis and Lily... eh, really not the best thing to do. Spontaneousness might have its advantages, but in this episode Ola showed us its downsides. Think before you act.
loading replies
@kbogesz yes he does fall into that category and everyone has their opinion to express and people to like. The guy who plays Adam does a great job of portraying him. I think with Rahim there is no back story other than the elements already mentioned he just feels like a character that is only a filler. Technically we know more than the characters do. So Eric should go with Rahim, but Adam was his first sexual experience so I understand the conflict within him. I think there is more to the story than this. (no spoilers I'm only at this episode so far and maybe back to tear Adam a new arsehole yet)
