I loved that they kept changing the actors between those of the past and those of the present. A wonderful pilot!
This episode has the best soundtrack
If there’s one thing this show is going to do, it’s rip my heart out.
I can't remember the last time I was this excited over a Star Trek show. Anson Mount is perfect for this franchise and I'm excited to see where it goes from here. Hit it!
The real Star Trek formula is back baby!! Finally.
I saw this at the premiere, it has a slight twist to the classic trek formula from the 60s that modernizes it for the modern age. Another excellent episode.
I'm very surprised by the negative comments on this episode. Perhaps it's because I'm a casual Trek fan, but I adored this episode. So many hilarious line deliveries. So much colourful chemistry between all of the characters (Chapel in particular has perfect chemistry with everyone she talks to). So much class, charm and optimism. Very good use of the visual effects budget to punctuate moments of awe. Overall, I feel really energised by this episode.
Loved the episode. Star Trek - The Original Motion Picture references where spot on.
So this show is meant to be a silly version of trek, and I honestly love the fact that in every episode there is about 50 hidden meanings/callbacks! This final episode made be laugh out loud! Great Stuff! #jazz
Epic episode!! Every episode keeps getting better. Can't wait for season 2.
More than any of the characters Jeffrey Combs has played on Star Trek, I loved him as the Andorian....
Oh, I wish I could see something new with Shran saying, "Pink Skin!"
Or, menacing someone with a syringe of fluorescent hi-liter ink.
"Did his kingdom come?" has to be the line of the episode and not one I expected to hear on a Star Trek show :joy:
New characters, a fresh set of story arcs and a positively star-trek-approach to solving a challenge? This episode had everything, I can't wait for a new series!
Well. It's mediocre. Better than the episodes before in season 4.Technically executed very well, but that's not Star Trek for the most part. Only the B plot with the idealistic, aspiring, motley crew of cadets encountering reality, overcoming dangerous obstacles, becoming a team, being educated by experienced, confident and calm senior officers and mentors (that's what you're actually supposed to do, Tilly!) is classic Star Trek. Well, as I said: it still bad. This endless, boring psycho talk... and the hugging. It's a shame how they waste their budget. If DS9 had that kind of money, they would not have blown it.
Hopefully, Tilly stays gone - and doesn't make a comeback every other episode to save Discovery with her brilliance... But the character wasn't going anywhere, especially since she's been essentially replaced by Adira.
The Vulcan restoration in the Federation... well... let's just be thankful for wooden Burnham for saving the day... again...
This episode was just boring as hell. Sorry to say.
omg now the computer has emotions too...
its an "organic" evolution says the machine :D
I hear nothing... put it on speakers... still nothing...
This show is so "woke" that now the fuckin' SHIP has feelings.
Fucksake why are they still whispering? And now there's a language based on emotions and feelings? Stupid
This could have been good, but they keep making dumb decisions and lines. Not to mention Michael as the ultimate power player - yes, she is a badass and smart and capable, but it is getting a bit overused how she is the only one who knows to solve anything, let it be a mathematical question, a linguistic puzzle, a combat situation or basically anything else. Yet it's still a minor thing compared to the dumbness of some. For example, Ndoye heard everything the others did and knows the risks, but she still foolishly betrays everyone, knowing well that this new species might wipe Earth off the charts in an instance if provoked. And I cannot wait the moment they finally use Book as a communication mediator as he can communicate with feelings - which might surely help. Anyway, I am a bit disappointed in the writing and the 2-bit characters, especially when the story itself could have been good.
Wow, what a dense and compact Anderson treat. Snappy, spritely and with all the quirky, cosy trappings you'd expect from Wes. A really delightful short, I could have watched more and more. If you know of anyone that has somehow avoided Wes Andersons filmography until now, this is an amazing crash course to get them up to speed in under 40 minutes. For the already indoctrinated, this is a lovely, sweet small shot of Anderson goodness that you mustn't miss.
This short returns to one of the best parts of “Henry Sugar” and that is Patel’s rapid delivery of narration even while acting out the things he speaks. Toward the midpoint of the film, when Woods calls Dr. Ganderbai for help, Patel’s narration indicates a pause for three seconds…which the two actors quickly oblige, holding the audience’s attention in rapt silence before continuing.
