An amazing screenplay plus a perfect acting by Fernanda Montenegro. This is what I call "a beautiful movie".
It Follows did a lot of things right, and not much wrong.
Everything about this movie was unsettling. From the time period, to the premise, to other more subtle aspects.
This has the feel of your standard horror/thriller movie, but as you unravel what is going on you start to see the depth this movie brings. The cinematography was excellent, and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.
There were a few things that felt a bit disconnected, and unexplained (in a bad way) and that's about all I can fault this movie.
Very well made, and would definitely recommend to horror/thriller fans.
After the horrible trailer, I expected worse. Not bad, not great, painfully average. Would really prefer if this was a movie about Fury, or the cat. The cat was the best.

All I can say about this movie is that it is quite possibly the best 90s movie that's not from the 90s. (seriously, if you don't know the cast and crew involved, you could genuinely pass this off as an indie film from that era) Great acting by the cast, investing story about a young boy trying to fitting in with a group of skateboarders, cool soundtrack (as well as music score by Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor of NIN fame), and superb camerawork. If this film is still showing in a cinema near you, I highly recommend you go see it, as it will be definitely worth your time.

Because even though I was roughly the same age as the lad in the film during the mid 90s, I was not the by-product of a single parent household, I was not bullied by an older sibling, I did not experiment with the darkness in the ways this boy did . I was just a child questioning his sexuality from the comfort of his upper-middle class upbringing.
My point is that I and the boy in this film had absolutely nothing in common except everything. Because watching this film I remembered trying too hard to be liked, struggling to exist beyond my parents' expectations and trying to carve out my own identity from a block of insecurities. So, this film was about me in the same way it's about every adolescent who outgrew his sheltered home life.
Jonah Hill does a remarkable job directing (aided immensely by a solid cast, excellent locations, and a soundtrack by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross that, like the rest of the film, reeks of the 90s without stinking of it), and his subtle story telling takes what was a good film and makes it a great one.
David Lynch started his career as he meant to continue, with this disturbing surrealist tale of a man who discovers he is to be the father of a grossly disfigured child. As he and his new wife care for it, they slowly descend into madness.
Eraserhead quickly sucks the viewer into its drab industrial dystopia with some of the most ominous, chilling sound design work ever put to film. A low hum throbs through the whole picture, it’s uneasy and relentless. Putting so much work into the soundtrack was a clever move, it helps create a world outside without having to build expensive sets and hire lots of actors, while still being incredibly effective.
Although the film was made on a shoestring, it never feels cheap. Lynch borrows heavily from film noir and builds on it, taking the genre in a new direction.
Almost 40 years since its release, Eraserhead is as bold, innovative and downright unsettling as it ever was.

"Oh, hi Mark!" is sooo popular
I absolutely hated it when I saw it in the theater and wanted nothing to do with it. After a year, I finally watched it a second time and it wasn't as bad. There are a lot of open ends where they can take the next film. Lets hope they end it right.
How did this happen?
Thor: Ragnarok is everything I wanted it to be. Taika Waititi is one of the most interesting filmmakers working today and it is great to see a major studio allow such a unique voice to make the exact film that they wanted to without sacrificing their creativity. This is not only one of the best Marvel films but one of the best straight comedies of the decade. I cannot wait to see what Waititi has in store in the future.
Thor Ragnarok showed once again that Marvel allows a lot of liberty in the personalities of characters.
I really liked the direction Taika Waititi took with this film, and had a lot of fun with it, but the characters all felt like comedic pawns. This wasn't as bad as Avengers: Age of Ultron in this respect, but still bugged me at times for the continuity of the MCU.
As for the movie, the acting was great, the story was fun, and it fits right in with the plot. I really appreciated the creative license afforded to Taika Waititi allowing for what is probably the quirkiest MCU Movie to date.
Would recommend for a fun, comedic, super hero movie.
[Pre-Endgame MCU Rewatch] As a whole this is a pretty decent movie, Steve Rogers' pre-super serum days are great, the Howard Stark Expo is a nice and fun addition, and initial post-super serum Steve is hilarious. He punched Hitler in the face 200 times! Once he finally gets to see real action I feel it loses a bit of fun but it's still decent.
Both Tommy Lee Jones and Hugo Weaving are excellent in this film and I expected nothing less from them. Agent Carter is a great character and if you like her I definitely recommend watching the Agent Carter series.
The script is not good. Something is missing in this movie. It could be more interesting, more excited. They had two powerful actors but thanks to crude script (and shooting) we couldn't get many moment to see their talent.
More or less what I expected: an amateur short film given access to far higher production values than it normally would have. It's not bad, but neither is it anything special. The performances are average, the cinematography pretty basic and the staging of the actors is really poor.
But the short does effectively create some tension and manages to pull off a good chestburster sequence without actually showing all that much of it (I assume the budget wasn't quite big enough to include much in the way of effects). Our imagination is often more powerful than what we actually see, so this plays that to its advantage.
I'm hoping the rest of these films will be better, though.
Sword of the Stranger was definitely an unexpectedly great movie in my opinion. The relationship between Kotaro and Nanashi is developed very well (for a movie) and helps to drive the film forward. I loved the fluid animation and exciting choreography of the action sequences and the music always seemed to fit the mood. The climatic fight/battle-royal at the end was absolutely epic. While the plot was not too original, it served its purpose in getting Nanashi to kick ass and shut many mouths. And I actually liked how the ending was kept open showing how wounded Nanashi was after the battle and that there was no nearby town. I just hope that Nanashi didn't die (although all the hints show that he probably did with this being his last sacrifice).
A lot of this is what you come to expect of anime, large manned machines, futuristic technology, miniature clothing, and yet...
This movie just didn't draw me in the way others have. Most of the movie was fairly slow. The big "threat" had an anticlimactic ending. There was some good action towards the end but the movie itself was more about what defines humanity than anything else. You have humans who abandon their bodies to become code, and an Ai who develops consciousness, alongside regular humans and that contrast and learning to accept becomes the main message of the movie.
Oh Pupa, such a weird little thing. I doubt there was a show that pissed off more people this season (following into Aku no Hana's footsteps)! The key factor to the problem is the episode runtime - just four minutes (with about two of those being taken up by the OP and ED). With this little time Studio DEEN deceided it would be a good idea to adapt a vore-themed story about a brother and a sister that was originally told in a three volume manga. Helmed by a not unexpirienced director (Tomomi Mochizuki) it leaves many questions about their true intentions. The art is not pretty, the episodes rather disconnected, the voice acting not very good and even the SFX sound rather low quality. Then there is also it's content; with cannibalism being a core theme airing them anyways but censoring the shit out of them with shadow/light-overlays... what is the point? They should have released these as OVAs but with a longer runtime or something like that. Nothing is resolved and the last episode is a flashback to when they were little kids and being all cute... It was never a good story anyways but certainly more coherent than this. Maybe they just wanted to take the piss out of some of the more energic fans obssession over little sisters or something (which 1x06 Encroach seems to hint at). If you want to watch it I'd suggest waiting for an uncensored release, it only takes you half an hour anyways.

Good anime adaptation for the manga written by Gantz creator Hiroya Oku. Clearly influenced by other great shows including Death Note, Parasyte: The Maxim, or even Oku's Gantz. The generation gap, critique of the social media are recurring themes. The 2 main characters are interesting, Hiro has a personality more complex than meets the eye. Good use of CGI, especially in the fighting scenes, the OP song is really well chosen. BANG!
This show has great animation (especially movement), a brilliant character design, nice opening and ending songs, great character development and an overall gripping story. What more do you need? Haikyuu!! is the best new sports drama in recent years (except Ping Pong).
This is such an unbelievably feel-good anime that you just can't help but smile and cheer through every episode! The characters, the animation, the story-telling... everything about this anime is fantastic. You could go into this show knowing nothing about volleyball and after watching just a few episodes, want to pick it up yourself. It's just that good.
Prepare to have your mind blown. This is "food porn" at it's absolute best. A must-watch for sure.
