A great adaptation that gets basically everything that counts right. The cast is perfect, the feel is sweaty, dialogues are spot on and it's a lot of fun.

Hap and Leonard: Season 2

Another great adaptation (even though I kinda miss the dialogue about penises size between Hap and Florida) and a more emotional story than season one. It's fun, tense, thematically strong, visually interesting (even though Jim Mickle is clearly missed) and very well written. The cast is fabulous and the atmosphere is great. I can't wait for season three.

Even better than season one: the humour is more on point, the themes are very well tackled (and probably more relevant now than when the show was written) and the acting is getting better.

Good Omens

Michael Sheen and David Tennant are of course great and adorable as usual, every scene with them in it is lovely. And the rest of the cast is also quite good. Overall, it's an enjoyable show but I think it lacks something, I got the impression that Neil Gaiman wasn't particularly able (or interested) in really adapting it for the screen. Much of the humour feels like something that would work better on the page and it lacks the timing or the structure it would need to be great in a visual medium. It really feels very "pratchety", but again, I had the impression that it would worked best if you're reading it in a novel and you let it breath. That being said, again, it's quite enjoyable and the last two episodes are really engaging.

Fun, complex, lovely acted and written, impeccably shot crime/spy/political drama. The usual very good British stuff, and it starts and finishes with a couple of bangs.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Interesting themes, good action and production values, some good writing, lots of ambition, mixed up with lots of misses and clunkyness (especially with the whole flag smashers plot). Overall it's a watchable show that tackles deep stuff while still being a traditional superhero action story. Which is what should be expected from an MCU production. It tries to do too much and sometimes it fails, but it's fine. It's never as good as the best moments of Wandavision but it's more cohesive and consistent, plus never as bad as the worst moments of that show.

Moon Knight

Probably unpopular opinion: I (moderately) liked Moon Knight. The first three episodes have some nice ideas but are fairly traditional MCU stuff, borderline boring. Episode 4 is when it really starts working and it's a nice Marvel version of the Indiana Jones/The Mummy genre. Episode 5 is my favorite: smart, funny, entertaining and for once quite effecting in how it tries to inject mature themes and drama in a MCU thing. Episode 6 is what you would expect from it, but I enjoyed the new dynamic between the two versions of Moon Knight, the action with the "egyptian superhero" and the whole kaiju/gods aspects. Overall, I liked how it used cuts to (not) show the different personalities, I thought the acting was frankly much better than what the show deserved and I'm all for it embracing the more surreal stuff, with anthropomorphic beastly gods fighting each other. I didn't love the show but I enjoyed and while I don't think it's as good as Loki or as the first few episodes of Wandavision, it's certainly much better than the second half of Wandavision and than Hawkeye and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Anatomy of a Scandal

A moderately interesting and adequately produced courtroom thriller, with good actors and a director that seems to feel the need to make it more interesting through random visual flourishes because otherwise the writing wouldn't be enough. And he may be right. The best parts of it are the clothes and Sienna Miller.

Slow Horses: Season 1

Gary Oldman said he's ready for retirement and he will only act in Slow Horses until it ends. And that's it: he's old, he's got other things to do. I agree, especially because I twenty years younger and I've been feeling the same way for ten years already. And anyway, it's a good way to go out: he's amazing, the show is ambitious (that first sequence!), tense, entertaining, and the whole cast is pitch perfect. Great fun.

I’m in love with Hugo Blick since The Honourable Woman came out so of course I was super excited about him making a western centered on Emily Blunt. And what a beauty it is. A revisionist western that shoots in all directions, mixing melodrama, adventure, some very silly stuff, tragedy, humor, grandeur, while showing some amazing vistas, incredibles skies and a very strong cast of actors. Emily Blunt, Chaske Spencer e Rafe Spall are astonishing and everybody else is so good too.

Loki: Season 2

This is basically five episodes of people running aroung looking for MacGuffins and ignoring everything that made season one great (the characters) because they have to explain the mechanics of the multiverse (which I don’t give a fuck about - the mechanics, the multiverse is fine, I guess). Sophia Di Martino barely registers her presence; Owen Wilson has got the best emotional moment of the season in the finale but basically nothing else to do; Jonathan Majors is funny, the scene in which he opens the big door for the first time is really funny and Timely kinda has a decent arc but now he’s gone; Tom Hiddleston does his best. There’s some nice moments, Benson and Moorehead inject some visual creativity that was the biggest thing lacking from season 1, the final episode is really good, the ending works but… I don’t know…

Show Me a Hero

What a beautiful show. Tense, gripping, funny, moving. It shows the addictive side of politics and it's also great in its depiction of many different stories with a very realistic touch, never pushing too much on the melodrama. Also, is there a better actor than Oscar Isaac right now?

They tried to give us everything that made X-Files great. There's a couple of "mythology" episodes, there's the completely silly one (and it's the best one), there's the one with the B movie / slasher feel... it's all there. And they also tried to make it more relevant for this age in terms of themes and with the main storyline creeping up in every episode. On paper, it made sense. The problem is that X-Files is still in the same situation of the last couple of seasons: it's become quite stupid. The mythology episodes are extremely silly even if they don't want to be and the rest only works because there's some dumb fun in it.

After Life: Season 1

It takes a couple of (quite good nonetheless) episodes to really get on track but then it becomes a very, very, very good show, extremely funny, sad, deep and light at the same time. Really lovely. Plus, it could have absolutely worked as a single season, with a very nice ending, so I'm curious to see what he did in season 2.

Like season 1, this takes a couple of episodes to really become good and I have to say after the beautiful ending of season 1 that was a bit hard to swallow. But then it gets back on track and delivers some great moments. I cannot stand the therapist, though. I don't think he's that funny and it's the only character with no real development or usefulness in the overarching story.

The Hook Up Plan: Season 3

This starts really out of whack, the first three episodes really don't work in terms of gags and drama. Too much. But then it finds a balance and it becames a really good final season, funny, heartfelt and with nice closure for all characters.

We Own This City

We Own This City is like if a sixth season of The Wire came from the multiverse, with returning actors in different roles and a complete change in style. The Wire was very emotional and personal but told through a docufiction visual style, We Own This City is a very dry and journalistic story told through the cinematic, messy, vital, temporally broke, ioncredibly effective vision of Reinaldo Marcus Green. And then there's a spectacular Jon Bernthal, who roams around the episodes like he's the shark from Jaws, swimming here and there, always ready to bite and chew everything when it matters. It needs a couple of episodes to really get there, but it's a great show, full of interesting ideas and with an amazing final episode.

This World Can't Tear Me Down

The first episode left me quite cold, no laughs and some cringy moralistic bits. I even thought I was maybe tired of Zerocalcare. But then I had so much fun with the rest of the show and I though it was very well structured in terms of ambiguity, morality, difficult choices and stuff. So, it’s good. Also, is it just me or did they have a sensibly bigger budget? I don’t remember hearing this many needle drops in the other show.
