I'm disappointed. The movie looks and sounds beautiful - the costumes and the world both are very intricate. I enjoy the language that is used, how the dialogues are written and I especially love the concept of the movie. It's not something new, plenty of books cover basically the same idea of a "clean" human, who grew up without societies influence, discovering the world. Nontheless, I was intrigued. Sadly since Bella is a woman, clearly the only way for her to explore the world is through having sex with men, because how else. And that could have been fine, talking about sex and sexuality is important, but this movie just uses it as a way to make jokes and show her tits. It is shown as something great and liberating, even when grown man assault her as a child or when she works at a brothel. Besides this weird portrayal of sex, there is not much substance. A few buzz words are thrown around like socialism, worker unions etc., but the writers were happy with just mentioning this stuff. Even when talking about prostitution, the commentary is restricted to "what if the prostitues would choose who they have sex with" - what a great, elaborate thought. This shows just how little thought went into the writing. Overall there is nothing worthwhile to be found here - at best you will get an ignorant commentary about topics they clearly have never engaged with.
If you're looking for a cure for horniness then you've found it with this stunningly boring nonsense. Not even Emma Stone can save it.
V/H/S 85 was surprisingly good, because the last 3 movies were really meh. There were barely any horror or mystery element in those last 3 movies.
However, 85 has redeemed itself and looks like we might get more V/H/S because this one have really been good.
There are 6 stories, the 6th story is presented as interlude between every 2 stories and finally concludes itself as the 6th and final story. Also there are stories that are related or like a sequel. For example. story 1 and 3 are related.
I won't extend further as I might spoil the stories. But, I would say that this movie will bring back lost fans of this franchise as well as create new fans.
Trust me. Movie is littery Crappy
Yep, it's a return to form. And yes, it's way better than Viral. Scary, gross, creative, and overall enjoyable. I hope this fully brings this series back from the dead and we see more of these movies.
Very enjoyable and consistent horror anthology embracing 90s aesthetic. It features great four stories with fun premises and decent amount of creative spins. The wraparound story still sucks but it still loads of fun as a whole. Overall a solid addition to the series and undoubtedly the best installment yet! My ranking from least to most favorite segments:
Holy Hell, wraparound story (dir. Jennifer Reeder)
• The weakest of the segments. Thankfully it has the shortest runtime.
Terror (dir. Ryan Prows)
• A bit slow but it has the funniest ending.
Storm Drain (dir. Chloe Okuno)
• Creepy and funny! I thought that man was Nic Cage for a sec.
The Subject (dir. Timo Tjahjanto)
• A rollercoaster ride indeed!
The Empty Wake (dir. Simon Barrett)
• Effective and genuinely creepy!
2h and 40 mins is waayyy too long for this kind of movie. It's like watching gras grow - you know it does but you can't see it. Every scene is streched out to the max. You could have cut an hour out of the movie and not miss anything of the plot. I am not opposed to long running movies but they should have content.
I read everywhere this has a great ending but I can' t tell. I was so bored after an hour that I couldn't bring myself to sit in front of the TV for another one and a half.
Dragged Across Concrete - That is exactly how I felt
I was a bit disappointed that it was more about the Minimalists, especially the two men who travel around the world to spread the word, rather than the actual Minimalism philosophy which I was very curious about. It's feels just feels like an introduction and now I'm teased I guess I have to do the reasearch myself if I wanna know more.
Average at best, maybe netflix should’ve let a Japanese director handle this one, it might’ve turned out more authentic. There are tons of great Japanese made Yakuza movies, Sonatine, Hanabi, Battles Without Honor and Humanity, etc... do yourself a favor and watch one of those instead.
