Bree, a muse. A complete queen. I love this opening scene so much, the decision she makes to push George away for good and leave her alone by being a good hostess for the guests. Picking up a shotgun and shooting straight into the speaker is not for everyone! And damn, thank God she visited Dr. Goldfine and thank God he mentioned that the attacker was on a blue bike. Otherwise, she wouldn't have called the police and this evidence wouldn't have been found. And George would keep chasing her until who knew when, and how it would end too...
It's disturbing when she hears from the investigator that George killed Rex, that they found evidence... Marcia Cross's expression in the elevator is heartbreaking - an impeccable performance, which shows the character's pain when realizing that the cause of the Van De Kamp family tragedy was by her side (he had even become her fiancé) the entire time. As for George, I have no words for this plan he came up with to try to manipulate her. Taking pills and demanding that she stay by his side to face the police. FUCK, he's so fucked up! He even had the courage to say that “he did everything for her, because she wanted to”, just to make her worse.
Bree's decision, on the other hand, is controversial, and difficult... After all, failure to help is a crime, and she sat there for a long time until George was dead for good. She was very cold-blooded. But it's understandable. He destroyed part of her life, took the love out of her life... Anyway, I just think he deserved to suffer more! That was very easy, very “fast” considering everything he did. Go stalker people in hell now, go!!!
Susan proving what a wonderful woman she is and shocking all her haters. Six months of daily going to the hospital to take care of Mike. Six months waiting for him to wake up. I feel sorry for her feeling guilty for agreeing to go on a date with Ian, man…and begging Mike to open his eyes and tell her not to. This dialogue is very touching in every way. And Ian is cute, just one date is no big deal. It’s not like she’s cheating on anyone, is it? BTW: the scene where she spills the yogurt all over Jane is priceless. There isn’t a scene of Susan being clumsy that isn’t iconic. “Jane looked cold.”
Bree and Orson engaged. At least this time, they’ve spent six months hanging out and getting to know each other - even though it’s a quick period anyway, it’s better than what it was with George, who proposed WEEKS after Rex died and still put on a whole show. just to manipulate her into accepting. However, there’s no way to be carefree because the man of the moment is Orson Hodge. We already know he doesn’t have the best character just from what he did to Mike. She ran him over with the intention of killing him and left him in a coma. Now there’s a whole mystery behind him, a very mysterious past. The disappearance of the wife. The neighbor accusing him of having murdered her. And of course, the body that shows up where they’re doing construction, back at the country club he’s curiously a member of... Bree really is a magnet for men of dubious character! Anyway, he is the central mystery of the season and I consider this narrative as good and enigmatic as the 1st.
That scene of Bree having sex with Orson and having an orgasm for the first time in her life is classic to me. Bree going to the hospital for an orgasm is too priceless.
Six months later, and Xiao-Mei is still pissed off and angry at Gabrielle. I can’t with this! The woman jumps into bed with the boss’s husband and thinks she has the right to stay that way. As for Carlos, I feel like stepping onto the screen and slapping him in the face when he tells Gaby that the affairs they’ve had are unparalleled, because “John Rowland didn’t carry their baby.” He talks like it’s an advantage, when in fact it just demonstrates how much more wrong he’s done. I just know that I feel sorry for Gaby for the outburst she makes to him, about the dreams being dead, being a single mother and raising the child alone, etc etc. She didn’t want any of this. She did everything for him, and he paid for it by being unfaithful with the surrogate.
Oh, they could have shown Gaby getting that plate in her clothes, right? “These people have no sense of humor.” I just want Xiao-Mei giving birth soon to disappear for good! I can’t stand that silly face she has.
I can’t be mad at Noraaaa. Maybe because I’m already quite used to it. And also because the actress gives a wonderful comic tone to the character, to mix with these unbearable levels. I find it funny how neurotic and suspicious she is, and how she reacts to things. In addition, the clashes with Lynette are iconic because they are two women who know how to impose themselves and have very strong personalities. Tom needs to take care of himself between these two! Moving the party to Gabrielle’s backyard was fun. And Tom finally saw Lynette’s sacrifices and decided to cut Nora out. It’s about time.
I die with Edie trying at all costs to sell Paul’s house, without success! Children running, people hiding in closets. McCluskey revealing that Felicia was killed inside.
Wonderful start to the season.
Bree was a warrior this season. She’s so strong, and she’s been through a lot of bad things. She dealt with Rex’s death. She dealt with George and ended up finding out he was a murderous sociopath... She had a drinking problem. She struggled with Andrew to the point of having to let go of him in order to breathe, which actually only made the situation worse. She was destabilized and I feel sorry for her. I thought it was really sad that she was trying to make the best party possible for Danielle, planning every detail to perfection, just to occupy her mind. And in the end, it all went wrong.
Andrew and Danielle don’t seem like Bree’s children, because in fact they are two selfish, hollow people. Andrew has done what he’s done with Bree since season one... and Danielle suddenly turns on her too. The contents of that letter are too absurd and surreal to be true. “You caused this, so I hope you blame yourself.” What the fuck? Who says shit like that? And all this because of a guy she met and started dating a few weeks ago. Oh, they deserve each other! Matthew is a motherfucker just like her. Anyway, it always breaks my heart when Bree walks into the psychiatric clinic and volunteers to be admitted for observation. Marcia Cross is always flawless, I love the bodywork she does with Bree. Only with expressions can she cause emotion. Now it’s time to hope she’s okay.
Danielle was a coward hitting Betty over the head with that piece of iron. Too bad this happened. And Matthew being trapped down there in the basement is nothing compared to what he truly deserved. At least a good beating, because what he did was really an “unforgivable betrayal”. Allow the mother to kill her own son, his brother, for something he himself plotted? Fucking coward!
Another very impactful scene was Lynette catching Tom in the house with that woman. And she did exactly what she had promised him: if she ever discovered betrayal, she would take the children and disappear. She did. But I hope Tom has a very plausible explanation for this. After all, it’s all very obvious. Tom can’t be a traitor! BTW: as always, I laughed a lot with the conversation they had on the cell phone, with Lynette being meters away from him. The moment the car alarm went off was awesome!
Susan running from Edie with the recorder made me laugh so hard. One of the best scenes in the series!!! And Edie’s punishment came very quickly, it was really priceless for her to show up all bloated at the hospital and still blaming Susan. Edie didn’t lie that Susan is really around when something bad happens to her, but she never does anything out of spite, does she? Anyway, what Edie did is still unjustifiable. She should have gone to burn Karl’s house! She knows very well that there is a story there, she even fought with Karl before because she believed he still had feelings for Susan (when she found the photo under the mattress) and also knew that he was naughty, after all he jumped into bed with her when he was still married. Conveniently Edie forgot that she had hurt Susan before under the same circumstances. Not to mention that burning down the house, she didn’t just hurt Susan, but also Julie, who she said she liked so much. Anyway... Edie and Susan could be very good friends if they stopped putting men in front of everything.
I love Gaby, and I find her very selfish at times. But in this episode, I didn’t think so. Carlos was exaggerated, and honestly? Xiao-Mei is not the innocent she appears to be. Carlos floundered even further when he referred to her as “mother of the child” just because she is bearing the child, forgetting that the egg is Gaby’s. Not to mention this whole thing about having to give up her own room, anyway... I didn’t think it was bad that Gaby had managed to get what was hers back. What we see now is a very smart Xiao-Mei. After she showed herself naked to Carlos, she is showing a very dangerous interest in him. And this scene of the two of them on the couch just proves that.
To conclude: I consecrate Felicia Tillman a great villain. An intelligent psychopath, and very bizarre. She did everything right, even calling the police, to file a request for help against Paul. It was a full plate. How crazy must a person be to cut off two fingers just to frame someone else? But that was just a small price to pay for her to be able to satisfy this desire for revenge for Martha’s death. If you think about it, even though she committed a crime by faking her own death, she was just looking for justice. Paul wouldn’t go to jail for what he did to Martha, there’s no evidence. So she found a way... I think this ending is really surprising. I couldn’t have foreseen any of that.
Andrew promised that he would do something that would destroy Bree’s world. Something that would crush her. He promised that last season and now he’s made it happen. I can’t even describe what I feel when I see Bree’s expression when she’s faced with that scene: Andrew lying in her bed with that cynical smile, after having sex with her boyfriend... Man, who does that? What kind of hatred does Andrew feel for Bree that drives him to do something so cruel? What did she do to him that was so horrible to deserve all this heartbreak? Andrew says he “won”, that he “knew she would stop loving him” when she found out he was gay. This is heavy and could be true. Maybe, deep down, he really believes that. But his malice towards his mother began long before he came out with his sexuality.
And okay, Bree reacted unfriendly when she learned of his homosexuality. But that could be worked on, that could be changed, and she was starting to understand things better. Why else would she invite Justin to two dinners? She has this conservative side because she was raised that way, but she was willing to change and accept her son for who he is. And he preferred to close his eyes to it completely. Such a pity... This final scene of the two together is one of the most touching and difficult of the entire series for me. Both actors put on a show, especially Marcia with that dead expression, as if Andrew had ripped a part of her out. His reaction also makes me sad, but Andrew NEEDS this reality check. He needs to understand what he’s been doing, to appreciate the wonderful mother he has...
Looks like the little secret Tom told his dad he was hiding back in Season 1 is going to come out. He punched Ed and provided just cause because he knew they would look into the expenses and find some “bad” on him. I was impacted just like Lynette. And Tom saying that there might still be some things that might surprise her. Oh boy... You can’t help but think about another woman, right? Detours, concert tickets, flowers... And in the conversation with his father, the subject was precisely this: infidelity. Lynette doesn’t deserve this. In fact Tom doesn’t even seem like the type that would do something like that. Let’s wait...
Xiao-Mei’s despair when Gaby talked about surrogacy was funny. But the best moment was her undressing in front of Carlos and jumping on the bed. Carlos really liked what he saw, huh? But I’m rooting for this to work, the Solis deserve this child they dream so Much about!
Man, Susan is really an unlucky person. She gains something, but loses something else at the same instant. I laughed at the private detective situation when she grabbed the tape and ran away. And Mike was a cutie paying the guy so he wouldn’t say anything. He really likes her! Not to mention the situation with the mailman, right? Susan freaking out when she found him on top of her bed was priceless. The effort was worthless, Susan should have hidden the letter in some drawer or something, and not among hers.
Edie’s revenge is exaggerated. Dude, wrecking a woman’s house over a man everyone knows is na asshole to women? There’s no comparison to the accident Susan caused in season one, because she had no intention of doing that. And I’m not trying to justify cheating with cheating, but wasn’t Edie the one who revealed that she and Karl had a hallelujah night together when he was still married to Susan? Hell, Susan explained everything in the letter, she said it was his fault, that he had lied. It might be in bad taste to jump into bed with him minutes after the breakup (which hadn’t even happened), but Susan was tricked too. Ouch... She didn’t deserve this.
Plus, Matthew just proved he’s the real bad guy in the Applewhite family. It’s too shocking that he allowed Betty to go ahead with her plan to kill Caleb, knowing the reason to it was forged by him. He allowed his own brother to die!!! Lucky Caleb for innocently commenting the truth and Betty managed to stop him from ingesting more poison ice cream. And I loved that she locked Matthew in the basement...
What I think is the coolest thing about Susan's arc is the scene where she goes to the hospital after all the argument she had with Ron during the date. Susan learned from the last humiliations she suffered at the hands of Karl and Mike (because like it or not, it was absolutely humiliating for her to chase him down the street in a wedding dress, begging him to stay). This time she decided that the guy was the one losing somthing, period. Even though I thought she wasn't right in the discussion, it's nice to see that kind of coming of age.
But about Ron: he's soooo handsome. And I thought Susan's concern was greatly exaggerated, and for one reason only: he's not inexperienced. It was only the first time he had spleen surgery, but he performs other ones, perhaps even more complicated than hers. And if he says it's a similar surgery to others he's already performed, then it's true, right? He's the doctor... Anyway, I think it's cute when he says that he sent flowers, chocolates, etc., to her house.
I have no words for Danielle. Man, WTF. And what a desperate act. Handing over your mother's and brother's secret, something that can put both of them in jail, just because you're in love with a guy you JUST met?
Anyway, I LOVE the reflection that this episode provides on maternal matters, about a mother doing everything to protect her child. I think it's brilliant that Betty says that, that it's in the nature of normal women to do extraordinary things when they become mothers. What she did is no different than what Bree did. We know that in this Betty case, that girl Melanie Foster, who was found murdered, is involved. And that Caleb was accused. Caleb, as you've noticed before, isn't completely right of his ideas... And Betty protected him. Like Bree who covered for Andrew – and this one is just really mean. Well...
It was very distressing to see Jack going to the park alone. I was really apprehensive, even more so when he got hurt – but on the other hand I was “relieved” to see that the reason for the injury was a fall when he was alone, because in the episode that the grown up Jack commented on this, I had understood that the issue between Kate and Toby had escalated to physical violence.
I don't judge one or the other about the escape, because of the circumstances. Okay, Toby had already made the mistake of leaving that fence unlocked before, but this time it was an oversight in the face of a bigger concern involving the house. He forgot the grate open just as Kate, in the anxiety of the moment, forgot to lock the front door. If you're going to point fingers, then they both have an equal share of the blame.
However, although I understood Toby's side a little more thanks to the episode focused on Kate, I can't help but stand by her in this whole “war”. And this chapter just made me more sure that her arguments make more sense, shall we say. Toby was extremely unnecessary in those accusations he made about her treatment of Jack's disability. She is right to see him and prepare him as someone who, despite his limitations, can be independent. If it wasn't for the song she teaches him whenever they visit the park, what would have become of that boy crossing streets alone?
I think it's sad because I've always really liked Kate and Toby as a couple, and I really didn't expect things between them to go down the way they are now. But taking into account everything they are going through, it's best for each to go their own way. Toby doesn't understand Kate. Worse, he makes fun of absolutely EVERYTHING she does, and every decision she makes as a mother. He doesn't even try to understand her. He only mocks and that's because he is aware that he is not a present father and husband. It's hard to live with a person who just doesn't want to try. For him, the solution to problems is for Kate to make a huge sacrifice and leave the city where Jack is already adapted, as if the problems between them were just the distance thing. It is not.
Anyway, I was really proud of Kevin and Randall interfering in that discussion. The complicity that exists between them is admirable and so real – after all, they disagree, they fight, they stop talking for a while, but above all they are brothers and they will protect each other, it's instinct. This situation linked to the Big Three's flashbacks trapping the nanny in the bathroom to protect Kate was touching.
By the way: I found Rebecca very funny, she was drunk and delighted with the night that Jack (always being EVERYTHING) prepared for the two of them. Ah, how I love them both!
All in all, it was a sad and harrowing episode. And one of the best of the season.
The first official tragedy episode of the series, with a situation of great proportions. It’s also one of the best episodes over the eight seasons. I have a preference for another episode of disaster that is yet to come, but as I mentioned once, this one really brings together all the elements that make Desperate Housewives a unique show. We have a distressing and catastrophic event. Tense characters and facing their limit, dealing with guilt, reflecting on life. And it’s all packed with smart, pure humor.
Carolyn completely hallucinated. Who knew we’d see this woman do something like this? And she didn’t give a damn about the gravity of her actions. She proved to be a true murderous, bloodthirsty and cruel sociopath. Holding innocent people hostage, shooting at them (she shot the employee just because he tried to leave, the first one hit), and all because of her husband who is a cheating bastard? What did other people have to do with it, man?
When Carolyn shoots Nora, you realize that she really isn’t there to joke around and that she won’t hesitate to kill anyone who crosses her path. This death, by the way, is very surprising and unexpected! Even more for the reasons... As I mentioned in the previous episodes, Nora was a very difficult person to live with. But she worked so well within the comedy of the series and I loved every one of the interactions she had with Lynette in these episodes. Kiersten Warren did a great job on the character’s tone. Crazy, hysterical, scandalous, but with a certain amount of humor. Despite the plots to try to be with Tom, she didn’t deserve to have such a tragic and sad end.
Lynette owned the episode. From the moment Nora was shot, Felicity Huffman shined – no wonder she was nominated for an Emmy for this performance. I felt destroyed with Lynette trying to stanch Nora’s blood and making that promise to take good care of Kayla... And of course, the most tense moment of the entire episode: when she gets mad at Carolyn who says she killed Nora for her, and starts throwing all those truths in her face. FUCK. That was tense as fuck. It was strong! It was true! Lynette didn’t tell any lies, the problem is that it was very risky to say that to an armed woman, possessed by her husband’s betrayal and who was distributing shots for the sake of distributing. Lynette was very lucky to have only been grazed in the shoulder. It could have been a lot worse. The new neighbor helped by throwing that can at her head. And Austin was very brave trying to keep Carolyn from reaching for the gun again. The equally strong ending with that woman taking the fatal shot to stop the madwoman once and for all...
There’s no way to hold back the tears from the sequence in which the hostages leave the market. The reunions... Julie hugging Susan and Austin. Tom running into Lynette with that sad score in the background. And finally, we have this final scene that completely destroys me, with Mary Alice. Lynette begging to help her friend, Mary Alice explaining that they can’t prevent what they can’t predict. And she finally freed Lynn from that guilt of not having done more for her. Seriously, I can’t even explain how much this dream and these dialogues affect me. This series is everything to me.
Gabrielle and Carlos reaching the apex of the war. I laugh so hard when he shows her the recording of her screaming his name during sex. And of course, the later scenes with the total destruction of the house – Mrs. McCluskey seeing it all was hilarious. Anyway, the tragedy made both reflect on the path that this separation was taking. Gaby stating that she could easily have been in Carolyn’s shoes, given what they were becoming. I think they will now be normal, although separate...
Susan using the megaphone in front of the market is one of my favorite scenes. Ian was really sweet to run back from the airport as soon as he saw what was happening. And it was really nice to see Susan supporting Tom, and vice versa. About Julie and Austin: now it’s more than clear that they’re going to get involved for good. He’s not one of the best influences, he’s even gotten her into unnecessary trouble. But the tension and attraction between them is clear. We’ll see... BTW: I die with Edie being overheard by Carolyn and being threatened with death. Poor thing!
Bree feeling guilty… “She hurt me, I had to hurt her back.” I feel sorry for her, none of this should have happened, no one should react like that. In the end, Bree wasn’t in the market, but it was like she was… Stuck with her own regrets. She certainly learned a lesson from that.
Bree and Orson’s marriage was so rushed. Even more considering what Carolyn did during the engagement dinner, Bree could have postponed the ceremony to process things better, right? Furthermore, it is not enough to just “feel” that Orson is a good man and that he has done nothing wrong. After all, she had the same feelings with George. It never crossed her mind that he was a psychopath, a murderer... And in the end she was surprised! I feel sorry for her in this matter. She has no luck with men, it’s impressive.
But at least now she’s having doubts... She’s no longer trusting him blindly like she used to, thanks to the information Susan got. For us, the public, the evidence that he’s not a good person only mounts. The body was not Alma’s, but a woman he misses. And curiously, he omitted it from the investigator, acted as if he had never seen “Monique”. Not to mention the important information they gave: it will be difficult to identify her because her teeth have all been extracted. We know what Orson’s occupation is too... It’s all connected. And it’s unbelievable that he’s offended that Bree “had to ask” if he killed his wife, when he left out A LOT of things. He omitted that she disappeared. He withheld that he was considered a suspect and had the house searched by the police. And let’s not forget: he drove the car over Mike with the intention of killing him. So at least one confirmation we have: he did try to kill a person.
The sequel to Susan and Ian’s first date!!!! I laugh a lot with Jane’s parents asking questions about surgeries and brains. Susan is really unlucky... And boy, wasn’t Ian gorgeous at the wedding? And what he said in his speech was just as beautiful – even though the timing wasn’t the best, Bree and Orson’s expressions were priceless. But I don’t know, I’m always more concerned about Susan because Mike’s accident, even though it was 6 months ago, is still recent. Much more recent than the time Jane has been in that situation. Again: bad timing.
Lynette’s desperation to get rid of Alma, making her say some absurd things, I die! I don’t even judge her for trying to get her together with Carlos. First, because he really deserved to experience a little “crazy”, as Nora is quite neurotic. And second, because I totally understand Lynette needing some “time” from her. It all happened very suddenly for them and it’s not easy. Nora is complicated... But at least the friendship with Gaby wasn’t shaken by that, I like that conversation between the two at the hospital.
Speaking of Gaby: the show she and Carlos put on during the party was awesome. Lucky Bree wasn’t there to see it, she would have been pretty pissed. The pearls from Juanita’s necklace were all thrown on the floor... As for the outcome of this pregnancy arc, I think it’s sad... Nine months taking care of Xiao-Mei, giving her the best and in the end, she was a surrogate for a couple who were not even aware that the child was being generated. Damn!!! But it was funny when they saw the baby. Now the bond that would unite Carlos and Gaby after their divorce is gone...
Edie is insanely beautiful this season. And now she has a nephew. I loved Julie being very direct: “you’re not even that hot”. The tension has already rolled, it shouldn’t take long to have an involvement between them. Again Susan and Edie with some connection. And I can’t lie: I love it!
The 100th episode of Desperate Housewives is very special. And it’s remarkable. It is perhaps the most touching chapter the show has presented so far. Very delicate, reflective, impactful... And it gets even more credit for revolving around a character that has never appeared before. Eli Scruggs was never even mentioned, but the script quickly manages to make the audience form a strong bond with him. It’s only 43 minutes, but in the first scene, you already feel sorry for Eli. Then it’s just crying for the man he was and the difference he made in everyone’s lives on Wisteria Lane.
I am shocked at the “impression” Gaby makes on girls the first time she invites them to poker. No wonder they were talking bad about her, she was really mean... Dude, what was she saying she wanted to shoot herself in the head for being in the suburbs for a month, and patting Mary Alice’s arm? That reference made me laugh. But it was beautiful indeed, Eli not only encouraging her to make friends, but also to fix the mistake she had made, and thus not be so alone. If it weren’t for him, maybe Gaby would never have gotten over her pride to truly open up like she did in the scene where she went to apologize to the girls. Exposing real feelings, that she was alone, that her husband is never home. Also, it’s wonderful to see how Gaby has evolved since then. It’s okay that she had to get poor for that to happen, but it’s still a positive change.
Lynette’s desperation to get back to her career, to get back to work, led to that terrifying moment of carelessness. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I think this scene is very strong, when Eli walks in with Penny in his arms and Lynette realizes what happened. Felicity’s performance right now is out of this world. Her look, her movements, her voice... Everything is perfect, she perfectly evokes and shows her feelings. Eli was wonderful trying to calm her down, reminding her that she has a lot on her mind, and that with the newborn baby she has a “new job”. With a gesture and a few words, he changed Lynette’s priorities, who decided at that moment to abandon any idea of a job - and she only returned to the business, it’s worth remembering, after that situation of Tom not getting the vice presidency, resigning, and switching places with her. In addition: I like the flashback to the barbecue at Bree’s house. Lynette comparing her uterus to a stove is priceless.
The idea for Bree to write a cookbook was born soooo many years ago, long before the series even started. And it was very frustrating to see that Rex tried to stop her, in the most idiotic way possible, as if she was incapable of doing anything other than taking care of the house, doing the laundry, making them food. The most curious thing about this character is that as ridiculous as he is (and during most of the 1st season, he was ridiculous with Bree), I can’t be mad at him!!! Years go by, I rewatch the series over and over again, and I still enjoy it when he shows up – I think it has a lot to do with the fact that the actor is charismatic. But anyway, it was VERY touching Eli saving the book that Bree, totally disillusioned, threw in the trash. And handing it back right after Rex’s funeral service. Without him, she might never have gone ahead with this idea and become the successful, recognized, acclaimed businesswoman she is today.
Susan nearly bursting into tears over Mike was really sad, man. The first flashback too, when she found out there was more than one woman in Karl’s life - but this one had a more comedic edge. The second was much stronger. Eli’s speech to Susan impressed me so much, it’s something I ALWAYS remember. He never got involved, never thought love was something worth so much effort. And the battle that Susan has fought since he met her to be happy has shown him that it is indeed worth it. I think it’s so beautiful and so reflective...
Finally, we have the best and most emotional flashback of the episode: Mary Alice. What an extraordinary character... Eli Scruggs changed the lives of many people. But his life was forever marked by the kindness and compassion of a woman who was always willing to reach out to anyone in need. I can’t even describe what I feel every time she notices his shoe is punctured, she understands that he’s in need, and offers the vase to fix it. She delivers the cards to the neighborhood, helps him get clients and thus makes him have a much more comfortable financial situation. That final moment destroys me completely. Everyone outside, Martha Huber being inconvenient and exaggerated in reporting the bloodshed from Mary Alice’s suicide, and Eli there in the corner, alone... Man, there’s no way to hold back tears, especially with that sad soundtrack. It’s very touching when he makes the promise that he would never stop helping anyone again if he could...
What a beautiful human being Eli Scruggs was. And what a wonderfully well-written episode. It was a break from the season’s storylines in celebration of the 100-episode mark, and it was flawless from start to finish. The way flashbacks connect to the current moments of our housewives. And of course, the fact that we get so attached to a character that has just been introduced. I only have love for Desperate Housewives. This is the show of my life.
I can’t deal with this “friend” of Jane’s during her funeral, man. What a sick and really crazy woman talking about “offering a shoulder” to Ian (clearly with other intentions) the very next day. Speaking explicitly of hooking him, of using his loneliness to get what she wanted. Susan made a mistake, because she knew that Ian was already committed to her, and that she was safe. But I don’t know, I think in her place I wouldn’t be able to hold back if I heard someone talking about conquering the guy who’s in a relationship with me.
Then the madwoman goes and proves that she really is mad, exposing the situation in front of everyone. If Ian was going to move on with her the next day, that was fine! But him already being involved with someone else is reason to turn him into a traitor, and Susan into a “slut”, as she said... But anyway, despite having been a funny scene due to Susan’s reactions and expressions to the exposure, I felt sorry for her. And Ian was such a cutie deciding that they don’t have to hide anymore.
Tom has already shown a fragile masculinity in the face of Lynette’s authority in previous episodes - at the beginning of season 2 mainly, when she went back to work and he stayed at home. But I don’t think that’s entirely the case here. Just as Lynette was his boss at Ed’s company, so Tom is her boss at the restaurant. She’s the manager, but he’s the one who owns it, who came up with the idea, who ran it all. And the warning he gave her in front of everyone was an agreement between them. It wasn’t like he suddenly started screaming, without warning or anything, just for the pleasure of doing so, right? I also believe that employees may not respect him or see him as a boss if his orders are disobeyed or ignored. Anyway, I love Tom, I love Lynette, I love the complicity of these two. I LOVE A COUPLE! They talk, share, discuss. They really are partners and this has become rare.
Austin crying and getting drugged by Julie was pathetic. He’s fully responsible for getting dumped, he didn’t value what he had with her. I hate those who do these things wrong with a conscience and then keep complaining as if they were wronged. He deserved to be fired anyway, but the perks that Tom mentioned with his hiring are tempting.
I HATE Zach sabotaging Gaby’s night. I hate him interfering in her life like that. I find this “friendship” thing too bizarre, and him wanting them to bond as a couple is even harder to digest. The lawyer might as well have said straight away that he was leaving because he was in danger of losing his job. He even commented briefly, “my job is on the line”, but Gaby didn’t even realize what it could be. The final moment had me worried. He spent a long time watching her finish the bottle of wine and then showed up with that gift showing a false surprise that she was home. And that creepy look he gave her...
Gloria is not kidding!! She’s totally unbalanced too. Alma isn’t far behind, but Gloria is more psychotic. So much so that she locked her in the attic to prevent her from going to the police. And now she’s done this to Bree, arranged an accident for her to fall from that height down the stairs. Andrew worried and threatening Orson on behalf of his mother was beautiful and surprising. “You don’t know bad Andrew, but you will.” AMEN, BROTHERS? After causing her so much suffering, now he has become a protector. It doesn’t do more than the obligation, in fact.
I understand Mike going directly after Orson, as bad as it was. But I imagine it must be very revolting for you to regain your memory and remember that the man who is directly involved in Monique’s case, who has been at her house behaving very suspiciously, is his neighbor. Who pretended not to know her. That saw him being arrested on that charge. I would be pissed. We have this problem now, Orson falling off the top of the hospital. Mike might get off Monique’s charge, but depending on what happens to Orson...
Starting with the flashbacks: once again, they were amazing! Past episode was showing how each one arrived at Wisteria Lane, this one shows key moments of their lives and how they connect to the present. Bree and Rex talking at the drugstore, she saying she needs to have a firm grip on her kids so they don’t get out of the way. How ironic. Look how they both turned out. And George’s presence! “And you are a good man.” He fooled everyone by being nice. Then Lynette pissed off when Tom insinuated that they would have another baby!!! But boy, what an insatiable man! Eight hours into delivery of the FOURTH baby, Lynette finished, and he was already talking about naming his fifth child!!! And Gaby’s first date with John. He was a virgin…and positively surprised her in sex. The world goes round. Two years ago, sex for Carlos was sacred and he was incapable of cheating on her, and now... Susan had only a small flashback at the end showing her happiness with Karl, which shortly after would be summed up.
I’m shocked at the way that employee talks to Bree. Calling her crazy and that he would have fun watching her trapped every day. But what the fuck? Her expression defined me. The escape moment was awesome! Brave and bold, Bree threw the sand at the doctor without remorse. And all in the name of the children, even when they are Andrew and Danielle...
Danielle was a huge disappointment. She left that ridiculous letter for Bree, said she wouldn’t come back, but at the first difficulty eka decided to run home to steal her mother’s money and food. huh? Aren’t she and Matthew mature adults? Anyway... The moment of Betty’s confrontation with Matthew was very tense. And I totally understand her side, when she agreed that she gave Caleb more love for being “special”. Matthew is mad, unable to understand his brother’s needs. Not to mention the cowardice of killing the girl and hiding it...
The ending to this arc is amazing and sooo impactful. That sequence at Bree’s is breathtaking. I hold my breath as she takes the steps toward Matthew, telling Danielle she’s going to prove he’s no good. She took too many risks and all in the name of an ungrateful daughter! The shot was very unexpected. I don’t think I even wanted him to die, he had to pay. With this reality check that Danielle has taken, I hope she learns to be a little more humble and value her mother more as well. As for Betty, I feel SO sorry for her. I’m always saddened by the look on her face when she sees Matthew’s body being taken out of the house. Above all he was a son, and that is an image no mother wants to see. Unlike most, I’ve always liked this character a lot, for the strength, for the way she protects her children. Memorable! I would love for her to continue in the series. Alfre Woodard is an actress I admire a lot.
Oh, and this season has an owner: Bree Van de Kamp. And Marcia Cross! What a character and what an actress! Impeccable.
It was shocking to see that Susan was actually going to accept Karl’s house. Glad Mike made her see things right and even said that he did all that because he saw him buying the ring. Overall I like Karl, but enough of this manipulation and enough of interfering in Susan’s life. He already had his chance and he didn’t take it, threw it away. Time to move on... I love Susan all excited about that dinner, the trailer decor with those lights was so beautiful!! Too bad it was all in vain, damn. She alone there waiting and believing that Mike didn’t go because she had no interest. I feel bad for her!
Mike’s hit-and-run is too BRUTAL. I think this scene is very strong and very well done. There’s no way not to fear what will result from that blow there. And besides, it was Orson who ran him over. The conversation they had in the office was already quite intriguing. Mike said he knew him from somewhere and Orson was keen to walk away. And now he’s done all this to get rid of him – a hit like that, the intention was to kill him. On top of that, he took an interest in Bree! It’s amazing how she has a magnet for mad men. Stay away from that man, Bree. You deserve better.
I have fun with Nora! She’s really unbearable, but you can’t help but laugh at her weirdness. I think Lynette contributes a lot to that. In this episode alone they already had clashes and Lynn doesn’t let it go – raising her voice in the restaurant was great. And the final scene where they talk at home is one of my favorites from the episode. Nora losing her temper and revolting at Lynette’s ill will in the conversation!!! And Lynn’s frightened expressions. Her life is now going to get complicated as the crazy woman is going to live so close. Poor Lynette.
I feel hatred and repulsion for Carlos and Xiao-Mei. Gabrielle said it all as she threw his clothes out. She gave the go-ahead for him to have an affair, but meaningless one-night stand. He was having sex with the housekeeper, who, oddly enough, is their surrogate. And that’s after Gaby gave up a lot of things to do his will. Carlos raped Gaby’s body to make her pregnant. And yet, even going against her ideals, she accepted becoming a mother because of him. He deserved to be kicked out of the house. Xiao-Mei has no shame. And the worst part is that she was still mad at Gaby. Really, honey?
Zach is laughable. I found that, at least for this moment, I really hate this guy. And I think it’s despicable what he does to Paul, who wasn’t a bad father. Simply abandoning him like that just shows how bad this boy is. Mary Alice doesn’t even comment on this in her narrations. I suppose she’s very heartbroken, she gave her life to protect this brat and that’s how he repays everything they’ve done for him.
I so love these flashbacks showing how each of the women came to Wisteria Lane and how Mary Alice met them. And the first impression was the face of each of them. Susan always clumsy, managing the stunt of locking herself inside the moving truck – her hair in the second flashback made me laugh out loud. Bree with all her politeness telling Andrew to recite a monologue so she won’t be judged as a mother for his actions. Lynette in a war with Tom over her career and kids – I can’t help but laugh with her nervous because twins are common in his family, and even more so when she says it’s her “first and last pregnancy”, she had no idea. Gaby and her libido with Carlos !!! And besides, it was wonderful to see Mary Alice again. How friendly, thoughtful she was.
I confess I laughed with Bree telling Orson, the psychiatrist, the woman in the living room, that she’s not crazy. Exactly something a crazy person would say inside a clinic to treat mental illness. But anyway, it is unfortunate that voluntary hospitalization has become such a big problem. Gosh, she just wanted some time off to rest her head, as she was about to have a nervous breakdown. Being drugged and trapped like that is hard to see. Even more considering what motivated her to try to run away like that, right? I hate this psychiatrist deciding what’s best for her just because she’s a patient there. I think the fact that she was admitted by choice should count.
Speaking of Bree’s motivations: it’s not entirely surprising that Matthew was actually Melanie’s killer, considering the fact that the guy allowed her mother to carry out her plan to kill Caleb, for something he hadn’t committed. That says a lot about him. Caleb has mental issues and Matthew is a psychopath as he spent 1 year hiding the truth and has no remorse for what he did. I feel sorry for Betty in all of this, I really do. I really like this character, I feel sorry for her for all this suffering with her children.
I like how simple Susan is. She’s all excited to be living inside the trailer while the house isn’t rebuilt, that’s pretty contagious. Even in the face of these dark moments, she remains up. Mike giving that kiss in front of Mike was GREAT. Too bad he couldn’t hide his intention to propose, bad timing when he went to the store to buy the ring. And Karl is so jealous. He claims to act for Susan’s well-being, but so far he’s only given her trouble. Deciding to buy a house like that just because of Mike’s intentions. Ouch... And as tempting as it is, I don’t want Susan leaving Wisteria Lane. She should accept, but then sell the house to keep the money. After all, even though he wasn’t the one who burned her house down, Karl was the motivation...
Porter spent the day at the pool and still wanted more! Typical child. But it’s actually scary when he loses his balance and falls off the balcony, thank goodness he wasn’t too high... He broke an arm, but the damage could have been worse. This reunion between Lynette and Tom is tense, man. But at least it’s comforting to know that the secret he hides is about fatherhood and not cheating. Lynette pushing him over the chairs!!! And he’s a child conceived before he met and married Lynn. His expression when she says she’s already let him go... Hopefully they’ll face it together. I love that final moment so much when she decides to come home.
Man, it’s so tense when Gaby sees on TV that Carlos is dead, and then gets that call. Too impactful. But then all this sadness for him soon turns to anger, because it’s very clear that he’s cheating on Gaby with Xiao-Mei - it’s not so much the fact that she’s the housekeeper, but because she’s bearing the child . Well, Carlos encouraged Gaby to go to training and said he wouldn’t go with her because he had to do community service. In the end, he paid Ralph and got out. Xiao-Mei runs out of the house asking what Gaby is doing there and begs her not to kill Carlos. And then she finds him in the kitchen all sweaty and weird... Gaby isn’t stupid, she got it.
Finally... Zach stating that Paul is not his father during that visit... That boy is so annoying. Paul may have his faults, but I believe he is, indeed, a good father. He and Mary Alice were great parents. What happened to Deirdre was a tragedy, but he wasn’t even the one who killed her. It’s disturbing how easy Zach finds it to look that man in the eye and say he’s “not his father”, knowing the guy gave his blood to raise him. Zach has sociopathic traits, and that’s worrying. Anyway, the biggest surprise in this arc is Zach having the courage to kill his grandfather just to get his hands on his money. Mary Alice, Paul and Mike killed someone at some point in their lives. But never out of ambition.
Once again, the time has come to say goodbye to these characters, women who have profoundly marked my life, in a way that perhaps cannot be explained. Only I know the impact Desperate Housewives had and still has on me. The series that opened the door for me to other series. That made me laugh and lifted my spirits in soooo many moments. That moved me for many reasons. And that taught me many things... I love this ending intensely. For me, it’s a wonderful and coherent celebration.
Her lives were indeed changed forever. For Lynette, with this irrefutable job offer from Katherine Mayfair – I love that she reappears, today I see that she is quite hated by many people, but I always liked the character even when she freaked out there in season 6. Who knew her life had turned out this way, man? The woman became a millionaire... And she even gave Lynette her dream job. She has ALWAYS aspired to reach the presidency of some company, it has always been her goal. And just when she thought those doors had all closed, behold... Another thing I love is that they bring that actress who played Natalie in 1x01 back, in the same supermarket, to give Lynette an incentive to accept the job. This scene was very nostalgic and was a great homage to the beginning of the show.
The inopportune time for Julie to go into labor!!! I laugh so hard in this entire sequence, it was so priceless. Renee freaking out since before getting into the limo, then having her dress ruined and complaining about the girl’s contractions. Susan made the best expressions! The scene in the store was great. Renee’s second dress was even prettier than the first, to be honest. And Susan pulling off the limo and leaving the bride on foot!! But I feel sorry for Renee for these inconveniences. Everything ends well, but can you imagine how awful the bride having to change her dress in a hurry and then having to walk who knows how far to the buffet? Poor thing! Her freak out when Ben met her at the door, another priceless moment.
By the way, the wedding decor was beautiful and I’m in love with Lynette’s speech at the toasts. At first glance, unusual. Her talking about people forgetting about love after they get married. But then, as she added, it got so real and touching. “To remembering”.
Gaby and Carlos reversing roles! I LOVE IT. Him realizing the diamond watch trick. Then her reaction when she saw the new gardener. By the way, Carmen is a character from Devious Maids, a series that Marc Cherry created as soon as Desperate Housewives ended - it’s as if the series were mother and daughter and we can consider this moment a crossover! Anyway, Carlos and Gaby talking honestly about how they don’t want to go back to being those two selfish petty people who only devalue themselves all the time... What a moment!
I can’t hold back my tears when Wonderful Wonderful starts playing, marking the birth of Julie and Porter’s daughter, and the death of Karen McCluskey... This scene is beautiful and poetic. A full life ends, a new one begins. On one side, two families happy with the arrival of another human being. On the other, a stunned husband, with the pain of grief, a friend crying and being comforted... The cycle of life, isn’t it? That’s how it works...
The individual outcomes for me are all wonderful. Lynette, as the episode had already shown, becoming president of a company... Leading a full life with Tom, for the rest of their days. And always yelling at kids. She could never get rid of it anyway! Gaby went far. She got that job quite unusually, as a saleswoman, and eventually became famous, host of a fashion show and all. And with Carlos’ support all the way... Bree was the biggest surprise. I never imagined that she would one day enter politics. I just wanted her to be a Democrat. But anyway, great that she has found happiness once again with a man who truly values and respects her.
And Susan’s ending for me was as coherent as possible. Considering the tragedy that befell their lives, it was expected that she would move out of the house and try to start over somewhere else, close to her daughter, her granddaughter. With a possibility of becoming romantically involved with someone. Why not? But if she doesn’t, she’ll spend the rest of her days with memories of a very full and happy life.
The value that each of them has in me is indescribable. I won’t repeat myself, but I really love the individual development and transformation they’ve had over these 180 episodes. With ups and downs, moments of joy, moments of nervousness. But with an extremely positive, exciting and remarkable balance. Bree, Lynette, Susan, Gaby, Edie, Katherine, Renee, and so many other wonderful, inspiring characters... I just thank you! Thank you for everything! For every moment, for every episode...
Again I leave my “see you later” to Wisteria Lane. At some future time, we will meet again. See you ladies soon.
How angry I am with this old bastard who is Gaby’s stepfather. What does this little bastard want, hanging around her house, chasing her into the supermarket? Her expression when she saw him in the hallway, and especially when she recognized him from the security cameras, says a lot. It was a mixture of surprise, fear, anguish... And it’s not for less, since we know what that pig did to her. I liked that soon after that she totally lost her fear of using the gun and went after shooting lessons, anyone in her place would do the same, I believe. After all, he sure wants some trouble. He faked his own death and now he resurfaces in this mysterious way, surrounding her. She better beware.
Tom and Lynette’s “alone” trip to try to solve the problems was a huge fiasco, because they couldn’t be alone. I was even embarrassed for the couple they met, having to witness the Scavo teasing each other all the time. And I don’t think there’s anyone “less wrong” in this story. As I said before, Lynette is super controlling and has always been full of jokes about Tom himself, everyone here knows. It’s no surprise that he said she was making fun of the ring when she went to show it to someone, and she admitted it herself. Besides, who did the job incentive come from? Her. And she was aiming for a comfortable and luxurious life, see when they got into that big car she rented to “incriminate” Carlos and stated with all the letters that “that life could be his”. On the other hand, Tom did change, because this guy who keeps talking only about money and caring about material goods doesn’t look anything like the character he used to be. You know, buying a nice thing every now and then, upgrading it like he did with the ring, I think it’s common. After all, he’s earning really well, he’s getting rich... But becoming stingy is unnecessary.
So both Lynette and Tom are partly to blame for the breakdown in their marriage, which at the moment appears to be irreversible. And I will always be VERY sorry for them being so estranged emotionally, as among all the main couples, to this day they were the only ones who never really broke up. Gaby has already divorced Carlos. Susan divorced Mike. Bree has been with George, Orson and Keith. And Lynette and Tom have ALWAYS been together, for better or for worse. Sad that at this point they are so close, yet so far from each other.
Lee having erotic thoughts inside Bree’s house, with her present, fantasizing about her boyfriend... I laugh so hard! Second time he leaves one of the main ones embarrassed - the first time was with Gaby when she said that Bob would “turn” Carlos. Chuck being recognized and even harassed at the gay club, help me! I found the story of how he broke off his friendship with his former partner, whom he considered a brother, to be sad. I just thought it was kind of silly that he can’t have sex again so he doesn’t give his wife a taste, only when the divorce comes out. But what the fuck? They are already separated and the process has been underway for at least a year – according to him. He shouldn’t care that she’s going to claim that he’s no better than her because he also slept with someone else, because there’s no marriage anymore. When it was important, he didn’t. Then...
Finally, we have the outcome of this Paul and Felicia plot, which has lasted since the 2nd season. And I really like it, I think it had a proper development this season. I think Paul in general is a very complex and interesting character. At the beginning of the series he wasn’t thought of as a bad man. We know he killed Martha on impulse, because she really was a horrible person and was very mean in her words when she gloated over Mary Alice’s death because of the letter SHE wrote. He was a little rough with Zach, but it was the fear that the secret would be discovered—a secret that Mary Alice killed herself to protect. But he wasn’t bad. Imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit, he became an even more bitter and spiteful man. I think he works for the first half of the season as a villain, I think his plan against Wisteria Lane is ingenious and successful, although people haven’t been intrigued forever. And the script took care of showing, little by little, a more human side of him. Like when he vented to Beth about feeling hate all the time and a need to get rid of it.
We had a debate about whether anyone really cares about him, since he almost died from a gunshot wound by his son, found out his wife lied about her identity and all. There were well-defined nuances. The inclusion of Susan in his plot only reinforced the construction of the plot and of Paul as a character, as she tried to see him as he was before all the bad things happened, when he was a happy man, and even lit the way for him to redeem himself. I have nothing to complain about this outcome. Even though I thought Martha didn’t deserve his effort to confess (because we know he’s going to spend the rest of his life in prison now), I think it’s good that he takes responsibility and decides to take the consequences.
Felicia is a character that I LOVE to hate. For me, she’s always worked as a villain, since she appeared all eccentric on Wisteria Lane, from when she started setting Paul up in season 2, until her climax now in 7, with the food poisoning and all the setup to kill Paul and screw up Susan’s life at the same time – who was always very naive, let’s face it. And her ending couldn’t be more ironic! Beth took it upon herself to take her mother out of circulation.
For me, this episode is on par with “Bang!” and “Something’s Coming”, as the best tragedies ones of the show. I’m always drooling over the construction of the script, the rising tension, the anxiety, the fear. To the climax it is by far one of the most impressive sequels Desperate Housewives has delivered to date.
First we have the individual situations, starting with Gaby... I can’t feel much anger at Juanita for the push she gave her mother, although she was strong. After all, since Grace came into their lives, she’s noticed that Gaby has an unusual fondness for the girl. Apart from that she noticed that since her departure, her mother has been sad, crying in the corners. She had already questioned that Gaby loved Grace more, and that was before she knew the truth. Imagine knowing? She’s a child, I can’t even imagine how upsetting it must be – in this whole story, it’s Juanita I feel the most pity for. Anyway, Gaby’s despair was agonizing as she searched for the girl amidst the chaos, even more so when everything got out of hand and people started running, pushing, stomping. Heavy. I love it hard when Gaby finds Juanita and knocks the man off the car like that. Now I hope the Solis can handle this situation in the best way possible.
Susan has already revealed that she knows about Tom and Renee’s past affair. And that Renee has feelings for him to this day. Again, I don’t think it’s bad that she wants to tell Lynette, because this Renee situation is pretty serious. If it was at least a case from 20 years ago, nothing more, I think she might try to brush it off. But knowing that she still has feelings involved, it’s complicated. Renee is conscious when she’s sober, but she gets impulsive drunk, as you can see. So right? But I have to say that I enjoyed seeing Renee all worried and looking for Susan when she saw that she disappeared amidst the chaos. This image of Susan lying on the floor after being trampled leaves me with my heart in my hand. Poor thing. So many bad things have happened to her this season, she didn’t need one more.
Keith is wonderful and I am frustrated that he allowed his father’s ridiculous ideas to enter his head. The whole time this worm Richard was trying to sabotage his son’s relationship, what a rage! Apart from that moment when he tried to grab Bree by force inside the house, saying that she “misread the signs”. I can’t deal with the excuses of these types of people. In fact, this situation was really reflexive. A few minutes earlier, Bree had found herself in trouble with the invading ex-con who didn’t want to leave, only chose to do so when he realized she wasn’t alone. And then she is harassed by someone who has been invited into the house. Makes you think... In addition: it was very tense Keith beating his father, and even more, him being mistaken for an ex-con just because of his clothes and tattoos (something else to reflect on) and being brutally beaten. Even Bree was pushed. But if it hadn’t been for her and that gun, what would have become of him? Although it was because of the shot she fired that the despair began.
Which brings us to the riot and Paul’s plan. I think his plan is amazing, very well calculated, ingenious and efficient. He did exactly what he said he would do: he pitted neighbor against neighbor with almost nothing. He was smart enough to send Mitzy away so he could have the opportunity to lie to Lee and get the last house he needed. And in the end, with the opening of the Correctional Center, he let that Fairview neighborhood show its most violent and prejudiced side. At this point, the dialogue Lynette had with Parker moments before the riot started is critical. After all, if no neighborhood can accept ex-convicts who have already served their time and are looking for a fresh start, where should they go? And how can they socialize again, live in society, if they are seen with so much prejudice by other people? Seriously, Desperate Housewives was SIR in this whole discussion. That’s why this episode is so rich, heavy, and important.
Finally: I really love this cliffhanger. Paul in the middle of the night bragging about having managed to destroy Wisteria Lane that way and receives a shot in the chest as thanks. The question now remains: who shot Paul Young?
I can’t help but feel sorry for Susan. Her joy when she receives that phone call from Renee was contagious, believing it was a job as an assistant, within this design firm they are looking to open. I felt her disappointment when she arrived and realized that the role was actually to be a babysitter so that Lynette could dedicate herself... In addition to being embarrassed to refuse after showing so much excitement, as she herself said, “she is not in a position to say no”. And I find that very sad. This Susan plot, complicated since the beginning of the season, had great comic tones because of her job with Maxine. Now it’s totally dramatic and distressing, I feel really bad for the expressions on Susan’s face because of these needs and, on top of that, because she thinks people are looking at her differently because of her financial condition...
That said, Renee was INDEFENSABLE. Have you noticed that she’s kind of bonded with everyone but Susan? She already knew and was a longtime friend of Lynette. With Bree, she had the situation with Keith that was soon resolved and they decided to be friends. With Gaby, there was even aggression, but they are friends. And Susan, nothing. It was absolutely ridiculous for Renee to treat Susan like a servant and an inferior person. Susan may have crossed the line a little bit into their business, making that (I thought innocent) suggestion about the decor. But being reduced to the “woman who washes the dishes”, as if she shouldn’t be taken seriously. As if everything she says and does is invalid. I can’t. Lynette should have scolded a lot more... Renee arrived yesterday and is already thinking she’s superior, etc etc. And she is far from it.
Bree passing out in the middle of the park because of menopause, poor thing. And boy, what an embarrassing situation and what an absurd, unfortunate coincidence, for her to have consulted with Keith’s mother, without knowing it. Worse was her confiding that she would lie to her younger boyfriend about her condition because of her sexual stamina, which she doesn’t want to give up on anytime soon. And the doctor agreeing with her. But hey, the woman was very mean in the restaurant. She drank a lot, you could see she wasn’t sober anymore, but still. She was unethical and quite exaggerated. Besides, Bree and Keith’s relationship has already encountered its first obstacle: he wants children, even if they are adopted, and Bree doesn’t. I like them so much together, Keith is perhaps the best man Bree has ever had a relationship with. So I already regret that they have this divergence. Enjoy the moment while you can so...
Gaby shocked that Bob doesn’t do the gay stereotype she imagined... And I love that this episode breaks that. Just because you’re gay doesn’t mean you’ll hate football and just like musicals, operas, etc. This is just a label, not a rule. Jealous Lee putting crazy ideas into Gaby’s head was funny too. I laugh so hard with everything and Gaby really takes it seriously! She is even bothered by the moisturizing cream that Carlos uses on his hands. Anyway, it was about time for Bob and Lee to reconcile, right? Since last season they’ve been separated. I loved that Gaby gave them both a push and the kiss they shared. They were really missing each other!
Finally, we have the revelation that Beth is indeed Felicia’s daughter. I don’t think they look alike as some people have commented. But really since she walked in, you could see that there was something more behind this marriage. After all, it didn’t make any sense for her to have married Paul while still in prison, to have sent those letters with a very “spicy” content and when the H time came, she refused to relate, and even said that she hoped he would never leave from jail. In other words: what was the purpose of marrying an inmate? Just say that she was married and her husband was in jail? There was something, and there it is. This is the “friend” Felicia said she had on Wisteria Lane and I can’t believe she subjected her own daughter to this. She’s been planning things for him for a long time, she didn’t stop at the incriminating part. For Felicia, revenge never ended. It’s just getting started. The only thing missing from this plot is Paul’s plan for Wisteria Lane and his neighbors. We know he wants to buy more houses and now he has an ex-con to live there. But... For what reason?
The coincidence at the beginning of the episode is curious. A Van De Kamp running over a Juanita Solis. I burst out laughing when Gaby says they’re trying to eliminate all the Juanitas on the planet. And that she just won’t tell Carlos because she didn’t like her mother-in-law. I also die with her despair to learn that Juanita doesn’t have the same blood type as them – in fact, I found the way that nurse handled the matter very unethical, making very mocking assumptions when she should be strictly professional. The invention of “sexony” to justify the possible “French side” of her daughter was brilliant. Anyway, I felt sorry for her for the guilt she felt thinking she had cheated on Carlos. And I was even more sorry for her reaction to discovering the truth. This secret didn’t last long and given the situation, Carlos couldn’t hide it anymore. Unimaginable what they must be feeling. It must be horrible knowing that your DNA is somewhere in the country, not knowing where...
Susan with one of the best plots in the character’s history on the show. Maxine giving the tips on how to act on the webcam was priceless, especially the scenes with Susan putting all this learning into action, I laugh SO MUCH with the faces and mouths she makes, sensualizing to clean everything. I laugh even more when Mike comes home with all that fire and she tries so hard to get the computer off. Her show almost turns into porn. But anyway, it is “fast” money, she had good results and has already managed to pay off some of her debts. But I’m sorry that she has to lie, and that she feels bad about doing so. I just hope everything works out and she gets back to Wisteria Lane as soon as possible.
Another one that made me laugh absurdly was Bree. Man, her clear sigh when she walks into the kitchen and sees Keith shirtless was just too much for me, other than her getting all clumsy about things. But I can’t blame her, Keith besides being beautiful, has a body like that... I LOVED Karen giving that advice and making Bree go back on her decision to fire him. And even more so that he decided to come back. She ran over two people in the same episode!!! BTW: Andrew saying he saw her looking at Keith’s ass, and Bree all pissed off, was hilarious.
I can’t understand: if postpartum depression doesn’t exist for men, why the hell did a doctor tell Tom he has it? Wouldn’t it be more appropriate, then, to just say that he’s developing depression? Even if it’s triggered by the insecurities he’s feeling now that he has a new baby at home... But anyway, the problem with this character is just that: he can’t evolve. I love Tom and Lynette as a couple, maybe because of the complicity and trust that exists there... No matter how much problems they face, arguments, disagreements, they always find a way to overcome difficulties, and in the end they always support each other. Maybe that keeps me from feeling angry at him like most people do. But it’s exhausting because in EVERY season he appears with a new midlife crisis. Watching it again now, I can see that the writers got it wrong in Tom’s development. It’s good that they address depression, address those insecurities (the thing Lynette said about getting it into her head that she might not be alive to see Paige get married, since they’re older now, throws those conflicted feelings wide open), but it could come with another character. . With Tom it’s always the same key. I am sorry for that.
I don’t even think Renee was getting involved. I just think she offered to listen to someone who wanted to talk. She only threw it in Lynette’s face when she heard those accusations about destroying other people’s lives for sport and then feeling like a big deal for being able to patch it up. I don’t think she did that. Apart from that she still gave clarity to Lynette, who offered to have a conversation with her husband about his feelings, fears, etc... Anyway. The thing only gets hard to digest when they drop this bomb that Renee and Tom have a “past” that Lynette must never discover...
Beth arrives at Wisteria Lane in such an awkward manner, it’s impossible not to laugh. But then the scenes with Paul are suffocating, when he tries to coerce her into having sex with him, and she is visibly uncomfortable, scared. Not to mention it’s weird, right? She married him in jail, they communicated a lot by letters. And in the end she reveals that she never expected him to actually get out of there. So why did she get married? What’s the point of telling someone she was married to a man in prison on a murder charge?
What a Season Finale my friends. Forever one of the most surprising episodes for me, full of great turns!
How can you not love Gabrielle Solis? Man, that scene where she goes to the hospital and impersonates Angie to the nurse was wonderfully hilarious. And I love her involvement in this plot, the fact that she takes risks to save her neighbors, knowing Patrick’s level of danger, is admirable. Even if she didn’t get anything (and she would have died if the bomb had really been in the house), but just going there and trying to make a difference says a lot. Nick fainting in the car when she was philosophizing!!! THIS SERIES!!
The twist that defined the outcome of Patrick Logan was MAGISTRAL for me, one of the most brilliant of the show. I really love Patrick thinking he’s the badass, telling Angie he’s going to make her pay (only with death), telling her to run to save Danny. And Angie stopping away from the car, waving goodbye, saying the bomb is in the detonator... What an amazing woman! It’s worth mentioning that she was also willing to die to save Danny and Nick, since he might as well have activated it without allowing her to get out of the car. Anyway, I am very sorry that she remains a fugitive and leaves, my biggest dream was for Angie to continue on the show for the other seasons. As I always say, among all the secondary housewives, who have only joined one arc in the seasons, Angie is by far the one that grew on me the most. She is iconic and memorable. In the end, I felt sorry for Danny, as he wanted to stay with his parents. But it was very altruistic of Angie and Nick to decide to allow him to live life freely, since he doesn’t owe anything... May he be happy and Angie find some peace, without being afraid of Patrick Logan. BTW: I love her saying that Gaby proved their idea about suburban neighbors wrong.
Last time I watched it, Eddie empathized with me more in that ending. Not this time... I think I feel more for Lynette anyway. First, being in such a horrible situation, having contractions, begging to be taken to the hospital. And second, because she cares, because she tries to make him face the consequences of the atrocities he’s committed, without fear, just being affectionate. Lynette is gold, a human being with a giant heart. Eddie, on the other hand, makes me angry... When he immobilized Lynette and stopped her from talking the moment Tom appeared, my blood boils. But anyway, I’m glad he didn’t do anything, he even saved the baby’s life. I wanted to see him get arrested, but it was impactful when he decided to listen to Lynn and chose to turn himself in. I don’t know if there’s any way in this life he can redeem himself for what he did, because he destroyed many families, took many lives. But the acknowledgment of his crimes, his awareness of what he has committed and acceptance of penance, is already a step taken...
In Susan’s plot, I believe that Mike is really mired in debt. I think that after Susan’s staging with Gaby to expose both him and Carlos for borrowing the money, he did put his pride aside. Susan was shocked when she saw the amount owed, so I’m guessing it’s a lot more than what she got for the sale of the nightclub. And I understand her being disgusted with Mike, because all of this could have been avoided if he had seen marriage for what it is: a partnership. And being forced to leave the house so they don’t get bogged down anymore... Anyway, I can only hope that they manage to resolve the situation as soon as possible, and return to the place where they should never have left. Wisteria Lane will always be their home, especially Susan. BTW: I need to emphasize the farewell scene with Angie, I feel sick from laughing when she just says “bye” and slams the door. Susan’s face was priceless.
“Would you please be a dear and close the door on your way out of my life?”
I really love this quote and I love even more what Bree says to Sam when he has the audacity to say that “he didn’t want it to end this way”. PATHETIC. I believe that he went there with that intention, and that he was going to carry out a coup on the sly. As he got cornered, he turned to blackmail. I’m SO sorry that Bree lost a nearly decade-old business that she built pretty much on her own to an ego-injured son of a bitch, pissed at not growing up rich.
Now, about Orson’s situation, I reiterate what I’ve said before: I will NEVER accept that he is the person to end the marriage. Let alone that shit he said, “I thought you were a better person; you are not the woman I thought you were.” Just like he’s not the man he showed himself to be when he married her, since from the beginning, he’s kept numerous secrets from Bree, involving crimes in the family, crimes committed by him, people he stole in season 5 to hurt her. So for me it’s VERY frustrating to see him leaving the house willingly, putting an end to everything as if he had any morals to do it. On the matter of the hit-and-run, Bree is really dubious. I don’t say hypocritical... Because I understand her need to protect Andrew, who is her son. The series has already put this on the agenda several times, with Bree, with Lynette, what they are capable of doing for the love of their children. It’s instinct. I point out, again, how Bree felt when she kicked him out of the house, he was on the street for months, and he evolved from that. Andrew since then is a different person. Aside from that, Orson ran over Mike with the intention of killing him – he even went back to the hospital with the aim of ending his race when he found out that he had woken up, let’s not forget. What happened to Juanita was an accident. And I make this comparison just because Orson says that the situations are the same, and they ARE NOT: the coincidence is a hit-and-run, but the circumstances that led to that, say a lot about each of them. And it’s just too irritating that he thinks he’s more important than his wife’s children. ALWAYS gets angry at not being put in front of them.
Bree’s mistake was hiding it from the Solis and now she’s going to fix that. I think if she tells Gaby, it will be up to them to decide whether to report Andrew or not. Or Andrew himself, who can turn himself in even over his mother’s protests.
So, apart from that, we have two more shocking twists for the next season: the revelation that a nurse switched babies (apparently, in pure evil) when they were newborns. Parker, Penny, Juanita, MJ and Celia. One of them is not a biological child... What a bomb. Also, Paul Young’s return to Wisteria Lane, right at Susan’s house - apparently he hid the name, since she didn’t know who the tenant was. It promises!
That was maybe the funniest episode of this season, man. Because I laughed so hard, in so many different scenes...
The joint plot of Gaby and Susan was wonderful. I laugh a lot with them initially trying to convince each other to give up this award because of the personal needs of each of their children. MJ for low self-esteem. Juanita for not having friends. And then both are competing with each other. Gaby in that outfit in front of the construction site men!!! Susan even managed to outdo herself by making MJ pretend to be a wheelchair user!!! Susan was a bit exaggerated in giving Juanita the punishment without her having done anything (I could see that she regretted it in the act and felt bad afterwards), but I liked this “hostage situation” that her attitude brought, with Gaby kidnapping MJ and them making the switch. Even more so because Susan decided to give in after talking to Juanita and understanding why she wanted to win. It goes beyond making friends. It was very beautiful, her talking to MJ and explaining the meaning of “winning” for real. And Gaby recognizing that both he and Susan are winners, when she realized what they had done. I love a friendship!
Irina is a real disgrace and Preston is a complete idiot for not seeing her intentions. Doesn’t he think it’s strange for a woman to be hanging on his back, demanding everything even though she knows he doesn’t have those conditions? Renting a big THREE BEDROOM apartment for what? He must be really in love, she managed to hook him, because it’s not possible for him to be that stupid. She saying that “a man needs to support his wife” to justify his decision to postpone college. Can’t she work too? Besides, I also don’t understand Irina, a born scammer, wanting to take a hit on a family that doesn’t have great conditions, as she has already seen. Why doesn’t she go after a rich man then? Since she wants to live off of it. Anyway, this scene of the confrontation in the kitchen, with Lynette taking a bath in red sauce, was one of the most frustrating mainly because NOBODY DID ANYTHING. Tom didn’t open his mouth. Preston stood still. Not even Lynette spoke up. Such disrespect for the lady of the house shouldn’t have gone unpunished like that. If it were me, Irina would have slept on the street. I wouldn’t have her in my house anymore. Hope Lynette can find a way to stop this soon. Prestos deserves to be made a fool of, but that would mean the whole family would lose out, as he’s still dependent...
I’m really bothered by this blindness of Bree’s. It’s amazing how she decided to take Sam in without meeting him. First in terms of employment and the vice-presidency of the company, and now in terms of definitely welcoming him into the family. Andrew is right to feel uncomfortable, for two reasons: 1) his relationship with Bree has always been rocky and he’s always felt like a letdown, so seeing her so receptive to someone he’s seeing that she sees as “perfect” must be disappointing to say the least; and 2) as I said, they barely know Sam. Orson proved to be useful after A LOT of time, he also realized that there’s more to this story. I liked that he encouraged Andrew to investigate him. It’s obvious that Sam wants more than meets the eye, that he has other motivations. It remains to be seen what he intends. BTW: Andrew pretending he knew how to play guitar was funny. And the moment he decided to break it was too tense. Embarrassing, even if understandable.
Katherine and Robin arguing, talking about the sex they had, not realizing that the whole neighborhood was listening is one of the most memorable scenes in the series for me, I laugh out loud. Then Katherine telling Karen that she “she’s still humiliated” was so funny. Anyway, it was a surprise that she packed Robin’s bags and then stated that she wants to accompany her to continue discovering herself and thus, stop caring about what others think... You have to allow yourself to be happy and I thought it was very beautiful that she chose to pursue it, after such a troubled period. I really like Katherine.
Angie throwing the gun into Dominick’s lap because of his “ice”. I loved this dialogue and especially the moment between him and Danny at the very end. It doesn’t matter if you have blood or not. As he himself said: he saw the boy being born. He was the first to hold him in his arms, even before Angie. He’s been by his side this whole time. He’s a father and nobody takes that away from him. However now they are in trouble as Patrick is on the prowl. He’s already found the house and everything. In fact, I’m always shocked by this scene in which he fakes a robbery in the house to strangle that woman. How naive she was.
This episode is so beautiful, so strong and reflective! I always look forward to it when I start this season, because it always manages to move me no matter how many times I watch it.
Staying with Karl, Susan would only have more frustrations in her life. She would never be able to trust him again. So much so that she got into this habit of eating whenever she was nervous, anxious, and she ended up getting fat – I think the characterization is great. I think her life would follow these same paths, with few differences. The suffering would be inevitable, because he would never change that behavior and the worst thing: he would be the one to make the decision to leave her, as if she had done something wrong, not him. In addition, Susan would still miss the chance to get to know Mike better and be with him – who appears with a pregnant woman at the end of the flash, indicating that it would be Edie. It was much better as it actually happened. And I thought it was great that, despite the impact of the news of Karl’s death, Susan in the end felt “grateful”. Not because he died, but because she has the life she has now, stable, with a husband who loves her...
Bree’s “if...” I didn’t want it to be that way, but I also think she would end up very disappointed in Karl if the wedding actually took place. He did it with whoever he got involved with: Susan, and then Edie. Despite the wonderful chemistry between the two and they always make for great scenes, eventually Bree would suffer just like Susan, so... About Orson: the only thing I’m really sorry about, because I thought it was pretty strong, was this revelation that he died alone and was only found two days later, no one missed him. I repeat: just a vision like that to make me feel a little apathy for him, because I think that’s something no one deserves. I just don’t like this attempt to humanize Orson. To me, nothing in the world justifies the things he did in season 5 out of pure tantrum, envy and rancor. And all this masquerading as love? Please. It’s not enough for Bree to feel guilty anymore, I don’t want to see her softening up with him. Worse, knowing now that he might become paraplegic, she shouldn’t send him away. Because guilt always speaks louder. I cannot accept this.
Gaby totally freaked out in her parallel reality, wanting to force a dream, a special gift that clearly didn’t fit her daughter. I found all this very sad, for Gaby who was so fixated on this bad idea, and especially for Celia, who would have her childhood destroyed in this reality, unable to make friends, unable to fit in. The moment in the future showing the deterioration of the house and Gaby insisting on this dream, even with Celia (surprisingly “old” for her age) trying to show that it’s not something she wanted, that was strong... And her accepting to do one more test because of Gaby’s selfishness. On the way they still lost Carlos, they lost Juanita. BTW: I also love the characterization of the old Gaby and how she doesn’t lose her habits - this time, even in an even more decadent situation than when Carlos was blind, she didn’t give up her vanity. At least she tries, right? In the current period, I love her so much recognizing that Celia is special even though she doesn’t do anything.
The very careful nurse asking Angie not to be mad at God for Mona’s death was funny. If only she could imagine... Her “if...” is also good, it gives a bigger glimpse of the whole story. We now know that the man’s death was accidental, she was partly to blame, but she had no intention of taking anyone’s life. As it has terrorism involved, it can be assumed that they tried (succeeded) to blow something up with a bomb. And most importantly, there is a “mentor”, Patrick Logan. Which, oddly enough, is who Angie has been running from all these years, above the police. Someone dangerous, because he terrifies her. In addition: I also find it very sad when she is sentenced to life in prison in front of Danny and he stands there calling for her. Such a thing is unimaginable. So sorry for them!
Finally, we have Lynette’s “if…”, the most impactful, moving one of them all. Not only because of the strong story presented, but also because of the surreal and flawless interpretation of Felicity Huffman, a master in the drama sequences. It all made me teary-eyed. The initial flash with physical therapy and Lynette desperately thinking she couldn’t go through with it. The conversation with Tom was crucial for her to see things in a different way and understand that she was indeed capable of doing that. And of course, the second moment, with Patrick angrily wanting his mother to make him a sandwich and Lynette deciding he had to do it himself. Man, I can’t hold back the tears. Seeing her with that expression, trembling, crying for hearing her son’s difficulty, holding back not to intervene, was awesome, to say the least. It was necessary. “I won’t always be here.” He needs to learn and overcome within his own reality. The final flash was beautiful, with Patrick graduating from a law university, being the speaker of the class, making that WONDERFUL speech about overcoming and unconditional and unquestionable love from mother to son.
On top of that, they put this scene of Tom revealing to Lynette that they lost one of the babies. There’s no way to hold back the tears. Gaby going to be supportive – not only to thank her for Lynette’s heroic act of saving Celia, but also for being the only one of the girls who’s had a miscarriage and knows what she’s going through. Glad the reconciliation came soon. Enough of the war between these two great friends.
In short, this was the tragedy that most victimized well-known characters and caused the most damage. Karl and Mona, who were long on the series. Lynette’s abortion. Paraplegic Orson... Too many twists in the characters’ lives at once.
Again: there is no way to defend Gaby and Carlos. It just doesn’t. I think it’s ridiculous that Gaby is playing the victim, and painting Lynette as a great villain, as if she has a determination to destroy them. We know it’s not like that. Carlos did it all wrong (and with Gaby’s full support), took Lynette’s job and gave it to someone else, completely humiliated her by sending her into that tiny room to force her to quit. When he saw that he wasn’t going to get anything, he gave her a ton of time-limited work to do, knowing she couldn’t make it. And he fired her for “just cause” (it seems) just to avoid the possible problems he would have, for getting rid of a pregnant woman just because she was pregnant. Carlos was a jerk. Lynette was wrong in lying, but it was harmless, she had a greater reason and she didn’t harm ANYONE, on the contrary, she just proved her worth.
Gaby was the height of selfishness in this episode - and I say that loving the character too much, but there’s no way to keep ignoring certain attitudes. As I said earlier, Lynette is really considerate, because insisting on making amends with a person who refuses to acknowledge that they contributed a lot to the situation getting to this point, and also refuses to listen to her, is fucked up. I found it laughable when she told Lynette that she was incapable of putting herself in her shoes. We know who didn’t show much empathy, even though they were aware of the Scavo’s financial situation and the livelihood of that family. I will always argue that Lynette did the right thing to pursue her rights and seek a lawyer. Gaby’s apology came after the unnecessary humiliation she was subjected to. How does it work in their minds? “I will trample, humiliate, despise and fire, then I apologize”. And that’s it? Should the person who has been humiliated just accept being humiliated and then accept the excuses, can they never try to defend themselves from an injustice?
No surprise Katherine pointing out Mike as responsible for the stab... Biggest surprise was the fairy tale she made up for Dylan – in fact, IT’S GOOD that Susan had the idea to summon her, because it makes things so much easier. Making up that she married Mike and putting on Susan’s back everything HER HERSELF was doing all this time, the stalking through the night, the wedding scene, the teasing. It was already very clear that Katherine was not rational, she lost her balance and this episode tried to show that even more. I do feel sorry for seeing her in that situation, especially when she freaks out and runs around the hospital after Mike, regrets that Dylan came back, etc etc... Heavy. As irritating as she was, I don’t know, I can empathize. Did she delude herself? Yes, a lot, because she knew Mike still had feelings for Susan. But he also fed it a lot. Let’s not forget that Katherine was totally lonely when he walked into her life and how things turned out for the two of them... Suddenly, and just as they were getting ready to travel and get married. Anyway, may she receive the attention and treatment she needs now and be well.
I like Danny, but man? Did he really believe that Angie would have spilled it all out of the blue to a stranger? I think he might have been suspicious at first, when Mona revealed that she had “got it all on her own” and Angie just gave the details. He could have played from there. From the brief conversation they had, Danny let out that there’s terrorism involved, which led to the death of one person and gave Angie that giant scar. Couldn’t Mona even COGITATE terrorism on her own? And Mona... “Just because I have gnomes in my garden doesn’t mean I’m stupid.” Not even. She didn’t think twice about blackmailing the Bolens like that. Lucky for Angie the issue was resolved quickly...
Orson playing good-guy, helpless victim, moralist, defender of good morals, telling Bree to write a book on etiquette for adulterers. Whoever sees it, thinks he never cheated and never did anything wrong against anyone. I don’t feel sorry for him, I feel for Bree because even in the face of all the things he’s done to hurt her, she feels guilty. And he even had the guts to say that he wouldn’t do anything to hurt her, ever. Being that he did that almost the entire 5th season. And what is this story he was bluffing about? What a joke. Karl trying to be romantic with a wedding banner, wow! But I thought it was good that he decided to reveal the truth to Orson himself, to set the record straight.
Which brings us to this tragic event in the midst of Christmas celebrations. For me, this catastrophe beats the one from season 5, which was the fire in the nightclub. It was different and quite unexpected to put a plane down on Wisteria Lane, during such a get-together. It was all impressive. Mona getting hit like that. Lynette rushing to save Celia from impending death – perhaps this will smooth things over in the war between the two families, we hope. And of course, the fact that Santa’s house, with Bree, Orson, and Karl inside, was hit hard. With at least one fatality, as shown in the final shot with the bloodied hand out, and that Mary Alice narration. And to think that Karl’s intention in sending that plane down to Wisteria Lane was to pleasantly surprise Bree.
The episode was very clever in its attempt to make people believe that the reason for Mike and Susan’s separation was death. After all, they showed the accident at the beginning that was very serious, Mike was thrown out. And then, no sign of him. Susan is involved with this painter and then she had that dialogue in the restaurant, explaining the reasons why she couldn’t get serious with anyone at that moment... I could only think he was dead. Not to mention that moment when Mike appeared in front of the house and just stood there staring, as if he were a vision, a spirit.
Well, from Susan’s flashback, we can assume that the reason for the breakup is blame for the accident. On the one hand, Susan is mortified that a mother and daughter died in that collision and she believes they are directly responsible. On the other hand, Mike doesn’t accept to carry it on his back and can’t stand to hear Susan talking about it all the time... It’s natural then that they couldn’t continue in the relationship like this. It’s not what I wanted or expected after so many things they went through to be together, but it’s coherent. Other than that I don’t notice any big changes in Susan. She was just afraid to move on because of these events, but with the final dialogue, I think she’s now going to allow herself to once again fall in love with Jackson... We’ll see.
Gaby has changed the most by far. At least in appearance, since she remains very sharp in comedy. Her clothes, her hair... She’s kind of sloppy, and I also think it’s natural for the situation she’s in now. With two daughters, with a blind husband... Besides, she still has to deal with criticism and judgment from other mothers. I was sorry when she heard the others blaming her for her daughter’s weight... Juanita is cute (the actress is Demi Lovato’s sister, for those who don’t know) and the youngest appeared very quickly, but she’s also cute. Gaby making the girl run after the car to lose weight was great. I have fun with the crazy ideas she has. And it’s a pity that Carlos is still blind...
Bree is too legendary becoming a successful businesswoman. But the selfishness towards Katherine was totally unnecessary. It didn’t hurt to put credits to the recipes they created together and also the recipes Kath made herself. They’re partners, huh. What’s the problem? I thought the punishment Katherine gave her on camera was well done. And I laughed a lot with the hot sugar dripping on the presenter’s face. The situation with Benjamin, however, was HORRIBLE. Danielle was never any good, but she reached another level by going there and simply deciding to take the boy away. He was already about 2 years old or so when it happened. And what the fuck was she saying she had no choice? Please. The day she gave birth, Bree took the boy into her room and asked if she really wanted this. Danielle for a moment didn’t even want to see the child and then she said that what they were doing was right. Now she says Bree made the choice for her?
I think the Carver twins are really cute. And I think Porter and Preston in this episode behave like 16-year-olds, nothing new in their petty attitude. Lying to parents, omitting things, coming home late. And they were always troublesome. I love Lynette so much using Tom’s car against his arguments. It was well done since he didn’t support the punishment she gave for the casino they did at the Pizzeria. Tom breaking his car mirror to show that he cares about the twins and then he added that he ordered a new one was funny too.
Edie returned in style. I so enjoy those first moments with the girls. Susan asking whose husband Edie is now married to made me laugh out loud. Too bad what happened at the party, their disagreement... I don’t think the girls had to apologize, as much as I think what they did at the end of season 4 was unfair. Edie was kicked out and boycotted... But she did it, so she might as well see it all as a fresh start, a new chance... Although she didn’t even want to go back to Wisteria Lane, as she exposed with Dave. It was his decision and there’s a reason... He went through a psychiatric clinic, showed some disturbing behavior. He needs to keep in touch with the psychiatrist. And in that “interview”, he said that there is only one person in the world who needs to be careful – and the contrast of the audio with the scene shows that this person is right there on that street.
A few observations: this accident was so badly handled... Mike and Susan’s car slammed into the back of the other car, literally at the end of the car, and their car was thrown into the air, flipped... And they survived. And the others, whose car barely moved in the crash, ended up dying. I love the show with all my strength, but they could have done more filming this sequence, right? For an accident with people thrown and fatalities, it wasn’t very convincing.
Another thing you can see is that when they introduced Jackson in the previous episode as Susan’s new lover, they still had no idea what he would really be as a character. After all, she came home at night saying “I’m home” and he was there alone wearing a suit. Now we find out that he was hired to paint the house and it’s a secret relationship. It doesn’t make any sense for him to be in the house alone, since she doesn’t even want him to meet her son, and even more wearing a suit HAHA.
Edie likes to lie to herself a lot. She told Carlos that she doesn’t know what happened, “they were happy”, it’s a huge lie. happy where? She attempted suicide to arrest him. She was blackmailing him with the account. She proposed to herself and bought his “yes”, and since they started dating, he made it clear that he had affection for her, but not love. I believe she likes him, or she really liked him. I think she really fell in love. But man, let’s face it, she brought all this on her on purpose. Edie did things wrong in this relationship from the BEGINNING.
That’s why I think it’s totally unnecessary for her to go after Victor to show him the photos, as a form of revenge. She barely knows him, she doesn’t know what he’s capable of. And rewatching that arc, I believe that even if Carlos assumed he was leaving her for another woman, she would get revenge. After all, Edie knows that Carlos never stopped loving Gaby. He told her that himself and since then he has only denied that he had fallen in love with someone else again (in this case, Edie). Anyway, to me her attitude is unjustifiable. I have a lot of affection for Edie, I like her as a character. But this whole story is hard to swallow, there’s no way to defend it.
Gaby forgot that she did know about Carlos’ illegal overseas accounts. She’d known this since season one, when he was arrested and she found the papers. All I know is that things are tense right now... Just when both she and Carlos decide to do things right, Edie blows the bomb. Not to mention that Gaby was shaken when Victor showed up willing to fix their marriage (although it could all be fake, because he’s as ambitious as his father).
Susan’s plot isn’t the best. It differs greatly from the other plots presented. But I always try to understand the side of the characters in every situation and I understand her fear after the first meeting with Mike’s father. Guys... Taking a human life and not showing the slightest remorse is scary. I would definitely be pretty upset too. So I thought it was good that she decided to go visit him one more time, without Mike, to confront him. And the answers she got were convincing. The guy already feels guilty, yes. He feels remorse. But he doesn’t allow himself to think about it or show it because he knows he’s going to freak out. In addition, he also regrets that he ruined Mike’s life, who was a small boy, when this happened. He’s not a psychopath then.
I LOVED Bob and Lee’s Halloween party. The costumes were all great. Andrew as Cher!!! I laughed so hard, he was so funny. But Danielle was really the pinnacle. For someone who isn’t that smart, she was pretty creative coming up with this idea of dressing up as pregnant Bree to have a little fun. I died with her imitations and the water bursting just at that moment. Of course Adam knew it was a fake pregnancy. He’s a doctor, he saw that “magic fork” situation, he got suspicious. Lucky he’s not an open mouth, he didn’t even tell Katherine - otherwise she would have already found a way to expose it. What about the Scavo boys at the window, scared to death when “Frankenstein” lifted the child?
Danielle showing that deep down she has a heart, she’s not as mean as she appears to be. The scene in which she decided to hold her son in her arms for the first time was very beautiful. I thought she was going to reject him, and it was pretty upsetting what she said earlier, about hating him... Anyway.
And finally we have Lynette. These scenes ALWAYS make me cry, no matter how many times I watch the episode, such is the power of Felicity Huffman’s acting and the delicacy of the script throughout the approach. I like how they create this whole analogy of cancer, which appeared to destroy Lynette and mobilize the whole family, with the skunk, which appeared to “destroy” her garden. When the doctor appears to give the news that she is cured, that she has overcome this disgraceful illness... Her reaction going outside, smiling to the sky, relieved, warrior, victorious! And then she loses control when she finds the skunk dead, feeling guilty... There’s no way not to get emotional. It’s a very strong, very reflective scene. This is Desperate Housewives.
I think this was the funniest premiere of the show so far. I laughed so hard and with all the characters. One of the best episodes of the series!!
Edie is a devil!! Look at everything she came up with to hold Carlos responsible, to make him feel guilty and still stay with him. The farewell letter. The scissors prepared in the right place. I DIE with her intelligence. That’s why I get tense when Karen arrives talking about the dumpsters on the street to Carlos, and she ends up getting in the way of the whole plan. In the end, Edie got what she wanted, even with the unplanned near-death. Carlos gave her his full attention, abandoned his plans to run away with Gaby (this, by the way, was a surprise). And now Edie has decided to turn their relationship into something even more abusive, exposing that she knows about the illegal account he has abroad and that she might open her mouth if he “hurts her.” Really, I don’t understand what she’s up to. If he hadn’t felt love for her before, when everything was healthier, what the hell makes her think he’s going to feel that way now?
Gaby is back to square one. She’s out of luck! She spent years living under Carlos’ wing, being courted not to be “inconvenient”, feeling lonely - so much so that she got into a relationship with John. Now the same thing with Victor. With him it might be even worse, because she discovered that behind the union there was a very strong political interest. I felt sorry for her when she decided to talk and expose that she isn’t feeling happy, and she realized that things are going to stay the same. Now, getting into an affair with Carlos is very risky. First by Edie, who has already made a very subtle threat to him. And second that Victor is powerful, he’s a public figure. If the betrayal comes to light, who knows what he’s capable of...
Susan seeking drama with Mike was kind of annoying. She proved everything the trail guide said last season, she can’t stay steady. But then her arc took a more comical turn and I just laughed: the discomfort when she saw that Adam was the gynecologist. The reaction when he hinted that maybe she was already menopausal. Susan telling Mike she was “dry and dusty”. I can’t help but laugh. And to top it off, she got the news of her pregnancy. Dude, their reaction. Mike almost jumping with joy. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL THING!!!
Another big moment: Ida’s reaction to seeing the fork stuck in Bree’s stomach. HELP, I laughed so hard! Especially when they lied that he was a magic fork and Orson kept sticking it in her again. Anyone would be suspicious, and Adam is a doctor, a gynecologist... Anyway, that lie, Bree could avoid. Danielle doesn’t have to raise the child, Bree doesn’t even know if she’d like to. She might as well keep the baby and take care of him as a grandmother, without having to lie to anyone. Better than going through those tight skirts. What was she holding tightly to the old lady’s hand in the shop? I felt sorry for the poor woman!
Stella is brutal, but she speaks the truth. You can see that she cares a lot about Lynette and is determined to see her daughter free from this disgraceful disease. Lynette throwing up into that annoying woman’s purse was priceless. And there’s no way to hold back the tears when she exposes to everyone that she’s sick. The girls seeing her bald for the first time... And then Lynette giving her reasons for not telling them. How can you not worship this series?
And finally, Katherine Mayfair. An interesting curiosity is that the actress, Dana Delany, was Marc Cherry’s initial choice to play Bree. She declined the invitation and then Marcia Cross was cast. Marc said he wanted to have Dana in the cast at some point, so he made this character especially for her. She and Bree are very similar and strong-willed, and you can tell from their first meeting, with their disagreement over the tree. And besides, Katherine arrives at Wisteria Lane with a bag of very complex secrets. Something happened in that room. Dylan doesn’t remember anything from the time she lived on Wisteria Lane. And there’s still a reason behind the decision to move back to the suburbs, they “had no choice.”
FINALLY WE HAVE BREE BACK! I was missing her so much. And she’s back all mysterious and full of secrets. But it was just a matter of connecting the dots... From their dialogue throughout the episode (like the one where Orson said he would take care of the child as his own) and remembering that Danielle was taken away pregnant. From what we know of Bree, she would never allow her own blood to be given up for adoption, for other people to raise. But she also wouldn’t let people know that Danielle got pregnant without having a husband (she’s a conservative after all), and that her father is a delinquent who doesn’t even live on Wisteria Lane anymore. I think it’s unnecessary to come up with this whole plan to be able to keep the child... But anyway, her choice, right? At least they’re not abandoning the baby. But it’s pretty bizarre.
You can see who Lynette got this strong genius from: Stella! Lynette isn’t afraid to speak her mind, to stand up when necessary – sometimes even when it’s unnecessary. And Stella is the same. I like this character and I think she came at the right time. As complicated as the relationship between the two of them as mother and daughter is, you can see that Stella is worried and willing to help in whatever it takes, because she knows what it’s like to face cancer, she’s already lived it in her own skin. It might have been wrong of her to try to find out from Kayla what the family’s problem is with Rick. But I can get away with it, because she wanted to prove a point there: people make mistakes, and people can change. “You can fight me, or the cancer. You won’t have the strength for both.” Shocking.
Susan and Mike’s wedding couldn’t have been more perfect. I LOVED Susan’s idea. They don’t need to have lots of guests, chocolate fountains, drink fountains... Anyway, it doesn’t need to be extravagant, luxurious, to be perfect and intimate. It was very delicate, everything she set up and everything she said to him when he showed up: about Mike being the constant in every “perfect marriage” idea she had. How I love this couple! May everything work out now, they deserve happiness.
Gaby was already questioning the marriage since the previous episode, now she has had an even bigger disappointment. It’s all appearance. It’s always like that with these politicians. You can’t even imagine how she felt listening to that conversation, with Victor seeing it as a victory in marriage that she will help attract votes from Latino people in the state government campaign. Worse: the father-in-law stating that he will control her by buying things. Dude? It doesn’t even look like the Victor who told Gaby before they started dating, that his ex-wife had ended the marriage precisely because of that, for being treated as a “lover”. He felt guilty (allegedly) and is now planning to do the same. Anyway, Gaby was stupid for deciding to marry without love. I hope she gets back with Carlos as soon as possible – she already did, he was her man after marrying another man. How ironic!
And finally, we have this shocking final scene with Edie committing suicide. First: SHE CAN’T!!! And second, it’s surprising that she would take such an extreme action for the sake of a man. As lonely as she feels, she has always appeared to be a balanced and independent woman... Besides, this annoying situation with Carlos was caused by herself. He was honest with her the whole time. How did she want to make him fall in love, by deceiving him in such a lowly way? Using the biggest dream of his life to lock him up? There’s no way to defend her. I just don’t want her to die!
Anyway, another incredible Season Finale, filled with the best DH has to offer. And that was another exceptional season. From the central mystery – which I love, and it’s very well developed, the best with the 1st so far –, to the individual plots of each of the housewives.
I love this Hodge family mystery so much. I find it intriguing and it was soooo well handled throughout these 15 episodes, so you could easily connect the dots about Monique’s murder by Gloria’s behavior since she appeared. Always with a menacing tone, she didn’t hesitate to say that she was capable of killing. Then she showed obsession with having Alma as a daughter-in-law and having a grandson conceived by her, she was even able to set up her own son to be raped. There was also that scene where Gloria tells Bree that in God’s eyes, “she was the other woman”, therefore her marriage was a sin and invalid. If you put the pieces together correctly, you could conclude that she was the killer.
And all the scenes that came along with those revelations were fantastic and great for me. Gloria completely hallucinated planning to kill Bree and make it look like suicide - which culminated in the revelation that she had done the same to her husband, and still blamed Orson. That’s the mother of the year, huh? She really wanted her son to be fully happy. She blamed him for very heavy things. She killed the one he loved. She helped rape his body. Anyway... As I commented on another occasion, I consider Gloria Hodge one of the greatest series villains I’ve ever watched. By coldness, by manipulation, and by madness too. As for Orson, while he’s a victim of the two women’s scheming, I don’t entirely absolve him of guilt. He could have turned Gloria over to the police. Covering up Monique’s death the way he did was a choice, and Gloria had absolutely nothing to use against him. The blackmail came later. And we can never forget that he tried to KILL Mike. That hit-and-run was not intended to put him in a coma, but to silence him forever. It’s pretty clear that the reason was because Mike saw him at Monique’s house, which could implicate him in her death. It was file burning. Orson can’t get away with this – and it’s worth remembering that he conveniently omitted that part from Bree. Only he knows that now.
The ending of this plot for me is too brilliant. I found the story that got into the hands of the police believable, and even cleared Mike of the charges. I was sorry for Alma’s death, it was horrible. She was troubled by loving too much, and in the last moments she was showing sanity, she was finally going to give up on conquering Orson and move on with her life. She didn’t deserve to die like that. Gloria’s outcome was impeccable! It was a smart creative decision for her to become a quadriplegic, hostage to her own thoughts, unable to speak a word. But aware of everything. That scene of Orson turning her head to see him go away forever... WOW! In addition: I highlight Andrew again and the wonderful change he has gone through. It was BEAUTIFUL of him running back home willing to protect her when he learned that Bree had been left alone in Gloria’s hands.
Gaby assuming to Carlos that she thought she had sex with Zach!!! I die laughing as she throws herself on the floor. And Carlos having fun with the situation is funny... Even more so when he realizes that she didn’t do anything with the boy because of his size. But seriously, I hope this episode was Zach’s farewell, because this is a bizarre character and plot. It’s abusive. Gaby making it clear all along that they could only be friends, and the guy goes there and proposes in front of everyone. He likes to be embarrassed. Anyway... Carlos assuming he’s having a hard time staying just friends with Gaby was cute. Is it too much to ask for them to reconcile?
When Tom is disappointed, he is a pain in the ass – and I LOVE him so much. His posture and expression was so ridiculous when he saw the chairs. After all, it was an honest mistake and she worked so hard to get other seats. She explained everything and still he stayed that way... It annoys me. But luckily it doesn’t take him long to realize the mistakes he makes. It was beautiful of him saying that everything was perfect and thanking Lynette for her support. I will always repeat: MY COUPLE! Disagreement happens in any relationship. The important thing is to get over it and value what they already have.
The ring Mike bought for Susan drives men pretty crazy, huh? First it was Karl, who ran to give her a giant house. And now Ian. From the last episode we already knew that he intended to ask Susan to marry him. But it’s a blatant fact that seeing Mike’s intent accelerated this process. I shouldn’t be too bothered by that, because we know he has strong and real feelings for Susan. But I don’t know, it bothers me a lot and I think it’s pretty rash too. BTW: I felt the full impact of Susan saying that with Mike, “there’s always a problem”.
Man, I don’t think there was any way around that call from Bree to Ben. Even if they managed to come up with an excuse, analogy, metaphor for her saying with all the letters that she had buried a body, that she had a bad conscience, etc etc. Never that the jury would buy this. Even without a reason to supposedly have committed such a crime, it would doom her. It was Renee’s statement, claiming that she saw Bree with a shovel in the middle of the night, when Alejandro disappeared from the world for good.
Renee’s attitude, by the way, always makes me strange. I understand that she was terrified of losing Ben, and I can try to understand her frustration at being left out of this whole thing – although it was obviously for the best. But I think she was very inconsequential, because the trial was supposed to decide the rest of Bree’s life. After what she said, she showed no regrets, she even said that she “made the right choice” by putting Ben before them. I’m kind of upset about it, as much as I’m glad it all works out for her in the end.
I have fun with Trip giving Bree that kiss and her throwing the truth in his face right away, without a second thought. His kiss activated another side of her. The moments of that trial were all tense and harrowing, especially when Gaby was called to testify again and started talking about Ramon Sanchez being her stepfather, Alejandro – and the scene’s score always makes it even more emotional, it was on point. It is difficult to analyze here. Because on the one hand it’s Gaby and she ran a real risk of being arrested right there, if the questioning went further, I think she would open up. On the other hand, Trip was doing his job: defending the client from the prosecution... Bree later thinking that he gave that kiss just to manipulate her into telling him everything was sad. But I understand her frustration over this. Until the end she honored the promise she made to her friends and continued to protect Gaby and Carlos. A friend like that is for few...
And there we have the climax of the trial! Who would have thought that Karen McCluskey would be responsible for putting an end to it all? That at some point, she would get directly involved in the main plot, even more so at this point? The scene was amazing with her screaming that she took the candlestick and killed the bastard! As I said: friendship... Friendship is everything! And it was wonderful what she said before “confessing” to this crime, about how on Wisteria Lane there is a complicity, loyalty, and need for protection among the residents. The purest reality. It was a very noble act of hers, for it was risky. The prosecution could proceed with the complaint. But luckily they left it aside because of her health condition and old age and she’ll be able to go home, enjoy her last days with Roy... Anyway, wonderful. Karen is the queen of this episode and no one can disagree.
The hug of relief between Bree, Lynette, Susan and Gaby when she was cleared of all charges. MY GIRLS!
And the end... Forever one of the most touching scenes of the series. Roy is very wise when he gets inspired and everything he said to Tom was beautiful and true. Tom taking his words and deciding to declare at once the love he feels for Lynette... Damn! In fact, it was so well written and constructed that you really forget how ridiculous he was this entire season. But Lynette and Tom are a couple for life. With all the mishaps, flaws of both, immaturity... Things we already know. Even with all this, they always found a way to get back to each other, to overcome difficulties. I always admired that. Seeing them getting back together after this period, which by far was the most complicated for them as a couple, is quite a satisfaction. “You you you...”.
My heart can’t take another goodbye...
Of the deaths we’ve had on the series (and there weren’t a few), this one for me is the most devastating. More than Edie Britt’s. For how long Mike has been on the show and for the unfair way he left. Murdered in front of his house, in the arms of the woman he loved, with a young son in need of him.
Susan always moves me in EVERY ONE of her scenes. Her shock on the couch when the reverend walks over. “The only thing I know is that nothing will ever be okay again.” The moment of reflection, with her remembering when they first entered the house after their wedding. “I love you once, I love you twice, I love you more than beans and rice”. For me, simply outstanding. And the speech she makes at the church ceremony, after remembering what heaven meant for him, is very beautiful, man. It’s very strong. I can’t handle it when she says “goodbye”. When Renee starts singing Amazing Grace. When they all say goodbye to Mike at the cemetery and Susan is left alone. And when she begins to realize what his absence will represent in the routine at home and all the girls provide support, they commit to helping her. The friendship!
I don’t even have anything to say about Mike other than that I really loved this character. I loved him with Susan. Even with the differences and problems. The back-and-forth. Disagreements, fights... But they always found a way to get back together. What happened to him was cruel, unfair, and hard to accept. And neither he nor Susan nor MJ deserved that. Mike deserved to live...
Mama Solis has always seen Gaby as a gold digger. And she was always very determined. There are some things I agree with her, but I think it’s beautiful to see Carlos determined to do anything to see Gaby smiling. I thought it was wonderful that this whole flashback made Gaby reflect on Carlos’ decision to leave that company. It was important for Mike to share Carlos’ fear of letting her down, of making her walk away. Finally, she decided to support him in doing what he wants, which makes him feel good. All that ambition to see him earning more and more money just for her to spend on random things was so futile. Now, as I said earlier, she can seek her financial independence.
Lynette moves me a lot by showing that she is absolutely devastated by this tragedy. Her stating, her voice breaking, that she will never see Mike walking out the front door again. Her flashbacks were great. The first one is funny because of their hair at the time and I love the second one, when Tom shows her the house and still shows that he paid full attention to the things she said on the FIRST date. He valued every word. Even she didn’t remember commenting on having a soft spot for “white picket fences” and he did it for her. I think it’s cool that she decides to fight for him now, after all this reflection. But I don’t know if Tom deserves that she keep going after him, because let’s face it: so far he hasn’t shown much empathy for her situation regarding marriage. But we’ll see...
Bree is the only one whose musings have nothing to do with Mike, but I like it anyway. I love seeing her when she was a little kid and it’s the first time her mother has appeared. And that “lesson” about the mask says A LOT about Bree. She never liked to publicly show any kind of emotion, she was always very closed off and now we know who she got that from. And it was just like what happened to her mother. She used this tactic so much with Rex that he eventually noticed and she had to switch to “favorite food”. Rex, by the way, was very insensitive. His mockery when she showed annoyance at her comment – really embarrassing and unnecessary, I believe not just for Bree, but for everyone present. Lucky for Rex he has a “charm” that keeps me from hating him too much. I never know how to explain why.
Orson’s plan worked. He really screwed with Bree and what’s worse is that these detectives are determined in this case by a personal matter that doesn’t even concern them. Chuck is dead still makes me angry! “She broke his heart.” Ok, I get it. But they’ve been together for two or three months, that’s not enough time to propose, let alone to think he owns a person. I so hate that ridiculous detective calling Bree a bitch. And I’m apprehensive about this evidence they got, Bree’s print being a match to the one found on the body… Fuck.
Carlos had already shown this willingness to quit his job before. When he saw again and realized that there are more important things in life than those jobs that, in short, only serve to harm someone while the “owners of the world” get richer and richer. At that time he was boycotted by Gaby, and also because he didn’t have a decent plan of life – he talked about community work, but no one can live without an income. Now he doesn’t talk about it anymore, about doing things just for charity, and I don’t think it’s bad at all. If he thinks like that, if the work there is toxic for him, then he really has to leave. I think he and Gaby already have a very comfortable life, they’re rich, they must have a lot of money on their hands. You don’t have to keep splurging like Gaby does. In fact, this may be a great opportunity for her to seek financial independence too, to stop depending only on him. Would be good.
Anyway, in the midst of these discussions we still had some iconic moments. The secretary begging Gaby to make Carlos stop, because she “likes to party with Brazilian gentlemen”. The counter face was the best! And I can’t help but laugh at Gaby’s own reaction when Carlos says he was giving money from their personal account: her ripping the check and kicking the guy out was hilarious. BTW: yes, it was pretty reckless... Taking money from the family, high amounts like that, and now he has this “smaller” plan. Anyway, we’ll see what comes out of it.
Lynette threw a wonderful party for Penny. And I really loved her getting into all the pictures taken of her daughter with Jane. Always spontaneous. The argument they both have afterwards is always too frustrating for me. Jane got absurd satisfaction from telling her that she was moving into Tom’s apartment. But as always, my biggest anger is with him. He’s too pathetic! I wanted Lynette to throw it in his face that this “break up to see if others could make them happy” plan was just in his head, she NEVER agreed to it. He left the house at the beginning of the week, at the end of it he was already in romantic encounters. Three months later, he already wants to live together. It’s not long before they talk about marriage. Lynette really didn’t deserve to hear that from Jane inside her house, let alone deal with Tom’s indifference to their story. Those “I’m sorry” that he says are extremely irritating and don’t solve a damn thing.
So Lynette hesitated when Jane gasped. But luckily she didn’t allow the worst to happen. As much as I don’t care if Jane lives or dies, it would be awful for Lynette to carry it on her conscience for being negligent.
Karen’s situation is full of drama, but with a very attractive comedy tone. It’s sad to see her being serious about interrupting her own life, about dying on her own terms, in her own time. But it was really funny to see her try. Bree making the excuse that she can’t kill her for taking pilates class is one of my favorite moments in the episode. And above all, this whole pie situation. As much for the surprise that she had ingested a poisoned food, as for the later argument of the couple inside the car. Roy begging Karen not to decide to leave too soon, my heart can’t take it. And Bree having to drive herself to the ER. iconic queen. In fact, I died with the fact that she and Karen “never liked each other”. Karen decides such random things all of a sudden.
When the episode starts and Mary Alice shows with the narrations who can die, you automatically rule out Juanita and Bree, for obvious reasons. There’s Jane and Mike. And from the moment that Jane’s risky situation is shown and nothing bad happens... I still, 10 years later, am unhappy with Mike’s death and I can’t help myself when this scene starts. In fact, a beautiful “before the tragedy happens”, with the dialogue between him and Susan, exposing how important she is to him and how much he loves her. The plan for the next day. And suddenly, in a second, everything is interrupted like this... In the most unfair, cruel and cowardly way possible.
The editing of this sequence was exceptional and made it even more shocking and emotional. This collage of key scenes of Mike and Susan as a couple, then those frames of EVERYTHING they’ve been through together. His life, the most important moments, flashing before his eyes before he was fatally shot. And it’s very shocking... Him lying there, that amount of blood, Susan’s despair screaming at him in her lap. It’s too much for me. I always fall apart. And to think they even tried to get police help because of the imminent threat of this damn loan shark. Fuck. It’s very surreal to think that Mike doesn’t make it to the end of the series. It’s hard to deal with it...
Porter Scavo, who eats frozen waffles, is the father of Julie’s baby. This is an even bigger surprise than her pregnancy, precisely because it is more unusual. Who knew that one day, Julie would hook up with one of the Scavo twins? Even more so because we saw them as little children, Julie was already a young lady. It’s weird, but I thought it was a good creative idea to rock this plot a little more.
For me, Susan’s biggest mistake was in the last episode, when she scared the couple away. It was unethical. But I can’t judge her by that familiar instinct. It’s very easy to understand this desire to keep the child: it’s her blood, she’s her first granddaughter. And she is able and willing to take care of her. Imagine how difficult it must be for someone to know that there is a person as closely related as this, in the world, without having the chance to follow their growth, none of that? So I understand her. And I also understand Julie’s side, when she says that “she made a decision and it was taken away from her”, which is one of the WORST things in the world. And also when she said that it will be very difficult when she visits her mother’s house and the girl is there, for example. Really complicated...
As for Porter, I didn’t see Susan’s mistake. She made a comment to Lynette and he just listened. Julie hiding her pregnancy makes no sense, because her belly is visible and she leaves the house all the time, at some point people would notice, right? And Porter went back to live next door to her house. One day he would see and the decision would be the same: keep the baby. Since Julie decided to keep the pregnancy, he as a father also has rights... It’s simple. Anyway, we still had wonderful comic scenes, like Lynette’s reaction when she found out everything. It was awesome! She having a panic attack. And it was also very beautiful Porter admitting basically that he has no roots, but that he already feels a lot of love for the girl and that he already wants to meet her.
BTW, I laughed my ass off with Lynette slamming the flowers in the face of one of the twins and running to close the doors.
What the hell did Gaby do in this episode, huh? Once again, opening up her absurd selfishness. It’s ok for her to want some help dealing with the girls, it was never easy for her, and Juanita doesn’t seem to learn! But nothing justifies her boycotting the couple’s reconciliation when Karen went there to apologize and ask Roy to come back. I hope Gaby fixes this soon, as soon as possible. BTW: but it was funny Roy giving orders! I always remember the screams of that gardener from Season 5, when Carlos went back to work and the girls got naughty with Gaby.
Speaking of Karen: I can’t deal with this cancer discovery scene again. Before, it was already difficult, in the lungs. Now with brain metastasis... I’m even more sorry for the dialogue about Roy, where we finally understand her reason for kicking him out of the house. She’s just trying to spare him the pain of losing another wife to this damn disease. You can’t help but feel sorry for that.
It doesn’t surprise me that Ben screwed up more. The loan shark gave the money and said the payment should be weekly. Of course, any investment he made with that amount would not pay off in such a short time. It was pretty tense with him trying to fake an accident to access insurance money, and almost having a heart attack. But even more, it was Renee’s scene with the said loan shark at the end. This guy is so gross, making a thinly veiled threat about “knowing where she lives”, commenting on her having divorced a player, having a lot of money. Crap. She already paid what Ben owed, this guy should be gone for good.
And finally, we have this plot of Bree... Orson hits rock bottom once again in this series, as an extremely evil, cold, calculating man. It was ridiculous for him to stop the girls from talking to Bree, and even more so, that horrendous lie he told about them, about them saying horrible things, that Bree deserved what she was going through, etc. Girls wouldn’t be able to say something so low and cruel like that, but I can’t judge Bree for believing him, as she’s really been totally abandoned by them in these last few episodes.
Which brings us to the big reveal... Orson is the blackmailer and the murderer. Does he really believe he feels love for her? It’s an unhealthy obsession. Since he’d gotten the car, he’d been stalking her (even if from a distance), keeping an eye on her every step. He witnessed the entire concealment of Alejandro’s body and carried out psychological, emotional, monstrous blackmail. He killed Chuck and left Bree psychologically shaken again with that “you’re welcome” letter. And now he’s going to great lengths to keep her away from her friends. Does he call it love? Did anyone still believe there was something good in him? He’s Gloria Hodge’s son, the apple never falls far from the tree. Now we can only hope that Bree finds out his intentions soon before taking this trip. Who knows what his plans are.
