The Matrix redone without any style or beauty . A hodgepodge of unmemorable music , bad lighting , quick cutting sloppy fight choreography mixed with shaky camera and flavorless gun fights . The CGI was on par with the originals from nearly two decades ago . Is that a good thing? It's one of the highlights of Matrix Resurrections sadly . Constant flashback's to scenes from the original movie look cheesy , it just screams this film can't stand on it's own . It's great to have some of the original cast together again , too bad the film didn't do them any justice . Thoroughly too long winded , the story isn't good enough to carry the film the kind of length we're forced to endure . In the end it looks like a made-for-tv movie , not a 190 million dollar film . Not recommended .
A terrible convoluted story line and pisspoor casting choices make this show watchable at best , certainly not very likable . The story mixes too many different psychic and supernatural elements to the point that it comes off as comical . The characters are rife with cliche and they try to tick every social justice issue . I can only hope the book was not as bad .
Casting is not all bad , but I would describe it as extremely hit and miss . Vic and her mother are only like 10 years different in real age and look like sisters . The accents of the locals in this New England town , and especially Vic's family , are all over the place . From full Boston accent to nothing . I can't complain about Zachary Quinto though , I've always thought he was creepy and colorless as an actor so he's quite good as a vampire .
The cinematography seems very well done . A+ for that .
A refreshingly dark superhero series or more correctly a refreshingly light supervillian series . This show will have you rooting for the bad guys . The writing , acting , production , special effects , casting of The Boys are all top notch . I'm so tired of what Marvel's cranking out most days so I had low expectations going in to the show . What a pleasant surprise . A superhero show for adults . Halfway through the series and loving it .
Season One thoughts :
The Good - Decent special effects . Some CGI looks fine , other shots look like they were rendered on a Commodore Amiga .
The Bad - Terrible acting abounds , especially Katee Sackhoff . In this , she plays a poor man's Ripley (Aliens) . Her character Niko certainly didn't fall far from the Starbuck tree . The difference from Starbuck here is that Niko has more than three emotions . Unfortunately , Sackhoff's acting style doesn't support such range , her facial expressions and movements all are so contrived and fast changing I can't take my eyes off of her for the wrong reasons , it's too distracting . It's similar to watching Jim Carrey's exaggerated expressions as Ace Ventura , though Ace was always meant to be over the top funny and not dramatic . Niko and her husband have zero chemistry , he acts like somebody who's uncomfortable around children and gives off a weird uncomfortable vibe in scenes with his daughter . None of the characters are likable except William/Samuel Anderson who , as always , is a pleasure to watch .
The Ugly - The cinematography is dated , circa 2004 . Identical to Battlestar Galactica with loads of shaky-cam and awkward excessive snap zooming . The cinematographer from Another Life also worked on Battlestar Galactica so that explains that .
The music is amateur hour . Every time the cheesy music starts playing , it signals the viewer that something juvenile is coming .
I like just about anything Sci-Fi , I was a fan of the Battlestar Galactica reboot , but it's going to be a chore to watch any more of this mess . I'm hoping the aliens end humanity swiftly so that Netflix can spend the money on something more deserving .
Edit I managed to finish the series . The Earth story line is boring and illogical . The space story line is only slightly watchable with at least some action here and there . Both are filled with stupid actions and WTF moments . The writers should all be fired . I couldn't possibly nitpick everything wrong with the writing , there's simply too much going on here to even start . This show is second rate in every possible way .
First episode was a snoozefest . A 24 year old actress playing a teenage rebel and more naked men than a David DeCoteau film .
Just got done with the pilot episode (The Comedian) of the new Twilight Zone and .... wow .... all I can say is that it'd better step up it's game . The first episode was was not lacking in acting talent , the story on the other hand was absolutely boring and unoriginal . It was a rip-off of several well known ideas . The first thing that came to my mind was "Death Note" mixed with a backwards "It's A Wonderful Life". The story was predictable and had zero surprises . Strangely enough , in 1957 , a pre-Twilight Zone Rod Serling adapted a novel for an episode of a TV show called Playhouse 90 . That episode was also called "The Comedian" , it shared NOTHING other than name in common with the new Twilight Zone episode . It's a crime to attach Serling's name to this episode , it was very difficult to sit through the whole thing .
This was a fun 30 minute pilot episode . Rated TV-MA for gore and language (the TV equivalent of an R rating) . It mostly introduces the characters and sets the tone of the show , basically they travel around trying to find other survivors who when found , promptly die horrible deaths as the group also deals with their own personal problems and idiosyncrasies . Yeah it wasn't the same actors from the movie but I thought they were likable enough . Special effects were great , lots of outdoor city locations , it looked fairly high budget . I was hoping this would be picked up but it was of course dumped for no doubt something more artsy fartsy . Z-Nation has since proved that the concept of a light-hearted and fun zombie apocalypse series is viable . Not the first time that Amazon's pilot program has let me down .
Enjoyable but so far it's hard to overlook it's flaws . My main gripes - Too much lens flare and shaky cam . And for taking place before TOS , the technology is sure advanced . Instead of making things fittingly primitive they went whole hog on the tech to show off the special effects . I didn't expect TOS grade special effects , I did expect a fusion of old tech with upgraded effects , what we ended up with is a shockingly unbelievable level of technology paired with movie grade special effects . Don't even get me started on the changes to the Klingons .
It's a fan film , proceeds went to charity . Tough to watch and not fall asleep . I am a fan of low budget films and Firefly and I can appreciate what this film is , but this is a film that fails to hold your attention , nothing memorable . Fair warning .
The worst out of the lot .The story line was a little far fetched (even for a Jurassic Park) , very talented cast was wasted by lackluster writing , literally 92 minutes of Téa Leoni screaming , good special effects as usual . Thoroughly unpleasant addition to the franchise .
After watching the first episode , wow . Solid show all around . Not heavy on special effects but that is really not an issue , it put more emphasis on the characters . Great cast and great storytelling . An absolute must watch for Sci-Fi fans . I also really enjoy the anthology aspect , I have no idea what to expect in the next episodes , but I know it's going to be good .
After watching the pilot episode , I'm not hooked yet . I'll give it a few weeks to get better . Pilot had no laughs for me . Casting seems good , especially his Mother . They're kind of in a dangerous genre , first it's a spin-off , and second it's a retro family comedy . There are always lots of family comedies to choose from . Right now in fact one of the best retro family comedies of all time-The Goldbergs- happens to be running . I'm a fan of TBBT , especially Sheldon , but I'm not necessarily going to watch Young Sheldon . November 2 is the scheduled date of the second episode .
Edit - After 5 episodes , I can say that I still don't find the show funny . The male characters seem to be the weakest link in the show . The Father , brother , and Tam are forgettable while his Mother , sister and Grandmother actually have personality . That said , it's still quite watchable for rainy day viewing .
