I genuinely don't know if it's comedy snobs or what that's giving this show a low rating. It's immediately an immersive experience of the era. Each character has a strong voice, which is exceedingly hard to do so early in a series. It pays homage to the difficulties of playing the game with your friends (mostly) jokingly rooting for you to fail so they can succeed. It's sincere. I don't know if someone thought a drama about the early world of comedy was supposed to have them in tears the whole time, but the jokes and comments on hand aren't lazy and conversations are funny and feel real. I haven't read the book, but even after 2 episodes I think I want to. Rarely has a new series made me want to perk up and look forward to each episode so quickly. American Gods was the last one if you want to talk about worlds apart style and drama wise. Already it's got great casting, great pacing, great dialogue, and a great ability to embody the material. If the show starts to disappoint, I'll come back and change my rating, but I think you'll be out on more than a few spurious limbs trying to justify an average of 40%.
edit: Oh, I get it. Jim Carrey being a producer on a show means it's supposed to make you feel like you did at 13 when you saw Liar Liar. Grow up.
On IMDB someone compares this to Vinyl. The anti-hero experiencing the same problems every day in a world with no particular plot is precisely opposite of this world. This isn't centered on one person and their problems. This isn't meant to beat you over the head with "just how 70's things are." This is a romance. This is about being in love with comedy as a profession and its roots. If you don't feel like you identify with comics...no shit...that's why you're in the audience. The themes and personalities and conversations are still perfectly human and translate well. I'd hate for unfair naive maligning of this show to get it cancelled after one season before anyone can discuss something wrong with it besides, "But I thought Jim Carrey...!"
This movie is seriously one of the best comedy movies ever. To be fair I am a little biased since it is partially based on my favorite musician Pete Doherty (Possibly by mistake). The music is right up my alley for the most part (except African Child, that album/song is absolute shit). Jonah Hill puts out his strongest performance outside of Superbad and Russell Brand without a doubt puts out his strongest performance ever. These two really play off of each other effectively and have some of the funniest interactions between two characters ever. This movie slays me every time I see it, the comedy can be very simple but it does not get stale or old no matter how much you see it. On top of being really funny and having a great soundtrack, it's also a pretty solid movie. The plot of a washed up musician surrounded by the wrong people his entire life in this downward drug spiral being lifted out of it by forming this friendship with the right person is done surprisingly well. If you don't enjoy this movie then you have serious problems.
ok the people who are saying that this is a typical kidnap movie are so off. it was a tip of the seat and sweatie handpalms movie. absolutely worth it and yes... there were a few moments that u say: oh come on! just do this or do that. but thats just common sence for a viewer. u dont know what you would do in a situation like that...
Beautiful movie. Also, great performances by the actors, overall.
Started out watching this show when Season 1 was nearly done, and watched it all the way through, and i can honestly say that it's a waste of time starting to watch it. Im still watching it though for no reason at all :P Yeah it's a problem i have, if the series is somewhat ok, and it's only 20 min then i just watch it hoping it will eventually get better, but ir really doesn't. Definetly a show im not gonna recommend to anyone, but it's allright if you need a time killer i guess.
Worst ever! Can't believe it got renewed 2 times and great shows like "go on" get cancelled.
OMG this writing on this show is superb best story telling in a long time to come along. It will make you laugh and cry and that was only the first episode. I am not even going to spoil this because you have to watch the story and you will be amazed how this story is told.
lol that kid is amazing the drooling, the pills. love dee! need more comedy like this.
Seeing the previews for this show during the Holiday, I was hopeful but didn't expect much out of it ... then I watched it. It is now my new favorite comedy. Every character brings something to the scene. The young kid, is so damn funny to watch. What I think this show does well, is how it concludes the story at the end of each episode. Also, the creators have their works attached to It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and you can't go wrong with that show.
Moonlight was like the worst movie I've seen this here for no reason this movies getting nominated I don't know why this won best picture at the Golden GlobesNOW is it because Oscars so white I think so
Seriously ? best picture of 2016 nomination ? this crap ? horrible, boring, pretentious piece of artistic bull. I probably wanna say more about the movie but i'm afraid i will get banned for life.
It's a bit creepy that Violet looks so similat to Emily Browning from the movie with Jim Carrey.
Very boring show. Couldn't get past three episodes. Didn't care for the characters or the plot. I really tried to like it because I saw others rate it so high, but I am now assuming they are rating it so high because it has so much lgbtq and racial stuff so you are close minded if you do not automatically think it is the greatest show. Sorry, I tried, It is horrible.
I LOVE South Park, but this just was a "hey, we deliver a show a day after great events! we're current". Not funny, kinda messy. I don't know, I liked it better when each episode was self-contained.
Obsessed with this show!
I am so hooked on this show! It appeals to both the business man in me and the nerd in me :)
Loved it! It's a fun movie.
The kid was the best part of the episode. Covered my mouth in shock and surprise multiple times.
I know Charlie never comes back but for some reason I'm still waiting for his sudden appearence. He's just entering to his house noticing the new furniture - and Walden: 'What the.... ?', 'Where the hell is my piano?!', 'Allan, you are still living here?! Move out! Now!!', 'And who the hell is he, by the way??', 'Oh, hi Jake.', 'Yeah, yeah, I'm not dead. Let's have a beer?' Sorry for my bad English
Cannot believe what they've done to this show
i feel like they could have easily shaved an hour of useless exposition and unimpressive scenery shots off this. sure tarantino loves to talk but there were a number of scenes that felt completely pointless, especially the one where it jumps back to the beginning of the day
Wow, just wow! Brie Larson is fantastic!
An extraordinarily story, and it will give you chills.
The thing that i loved that the story-line was from the child's eyes.
One of 2015 best movies.
This was just Rocky remade. Yawn
Just because Creed is better than Rocky 3, it doesn't make it a great film. The best thing about this collection of cliches is that it made me want to watch Rocky again.
It may not be a masterpiece, I agree on that, but I really loved this movie. I like when Disney keeps it simple and things like family, friendship, love, fear and courage shine in one simple movie. I was teary in two moments of the movie and hoping that everything turns out good for Arlo and Spot. It was beautiful, simple but really beautiful. It was a good reminder that "courage doesn't exist without fear".
Is apparently a reboot that makes believe the others never happened. It just goes by Ghostbusters now and not Ghostbusters 3. So count me out.
i was defnitelly not expecting for a 90's nostalgic trash/gore movie.
