It was a nice touch having Ashley Johnson (the voice of Ellie in the games) playing her Mother.
Some of these episodes truly make you consider both sides. But this one... No. The moment the victim's family said he was abusive toward her, which is not something he ever mentioned in his version of events, not even to express regret, I knew that this guy was full of shit. You're already in prison for the rest of your life, if there's ever a time to admit your wrongdoings and just be honest with yourself, that would be it.
So Reva had the foresight to put a tracker on Leia's bot when she thought Obi-Wan was dead. Huh? Make it make sense.
Started off as a half decent action movie till the truly horrible third act.
Why would the government not help kill them under the ice, they were quick enough to believe 'the future people'? Just so you can have your small group of outcasts save the world? Why go through more than half of the movie to help 'the future people' and then barely use what you fought for, the toxin? Terrible writing.
Simply unbearable. A bad combo of concepts from previous works of fiction. Decades into the future, fighting swats of primal creatures/aliens (go figure that contradiction), using foot soldiers and rudimentary weapons, really? "It's not a souvenir, it's a reminder" - who writes this bull?
Also, the part where Dan Forester meets the female colonel played by Yvonne, that was a cliché of epic proportions.
Main flaw though: too long for a mediocre film.
I adore this show. It might be the most wildly imaginative series I’ve ever watched.
But am I the only one feeling zero chemistry between Chidi and Eleanor?
So, the best episode of the Show Ahsoka is the one where Ahsoka doesn't show up.
It is not great or anything, but at least stuff happens.
They did strech out a little bit over the acceptable trhrshhold the suspense before the big reveals, but at least it was shorter than the pauses between lines of dialogue in the previous episodes.
Baylon and Shin are the only good characters so far, and we actualy got to see them develop on screen, instead of acting like mustache twirling villains.
Thrawn shows some potential, I guess... Not much to see yet.
The actor who plays Ezra has a voice very close to the original (unlike Sabine and Ahsoka). Is he the original voice actor?
Oh, the best part (besides no Ahsoka). NOBODY CROSSED THEIR ARMS!
Pattinson is the best Batman ever.
he is so tortured, his emotions are sincere. He's the darkest and most precise batman out there.
the visuals and the soundtrack are incredible and take you into the thoughts of the character.
For me it’s a masterpiece.
props to my boy Dylan G for holding that position for what seemed like an eternity!
I f*king cried, Luke at the end & R2 ?! best episode ever. This even tops the sequel triolgy for me. You know, this even makes 2020 a good year. 10/10
Why am i still watching this show. Barley anything happens in the course of an hour to push the story along. The sad part is I know I’ll be back here next Sunday to watch the next episode.
ahhh, the olde hide child in trenchcoat trick! that can fool anyone on any military base.
Bit of a disappointment so far, which seems to be a reoccurring theme with these Disney+ shows and their IPs. Maybe some better showrunners? I came into Obi-Wan pretty high on Deborah Chow, but maybe I was wrong. Some things have felt fluid, and others really clunky (the woods chase is as bad a scene of choreography, as I remember). The actress playing Reva feels like someone desperately cosplaying as an Empire based character.
I've really enjoyed the first 2 episodes, while others seems to more uncertain. But this is the first episode I've been worried overall about the series. The modern underworld story just isn't interesting enough - I was kinda hoping we would see more Boba Fett the Bounty Hunter, not this form of a makeshift leader.
The humans grafting droid parts onto themselves, is a new concept in the Star Wars visual world, to my knowledge but it was executed so poorly. It's the first time I've looked at anything in the Disney SW era, and thought, "that doesn't look like Star Wars".
I'm not sure where this series is really going but EP4 needs to pick up the modern underworld story in a big way.
Can’t help but feel this was a little bit of a dud of an ending? Not sure, going to have to reflect on this for a little while, but immediately feels like a 6/10 ending for what was overall an 8/10 show.
Edit: Having read the book ending, yeah, I'm a little let down by this one. The book basically throws in another murder that Jacob is suspiciously close to after Hope winds up dead and Laurie finds a red stain on Jacobs bathing suit. This pushes Laurie over the edge with guilt as she is now totally convinced Jacob did it, resulting in her killing him with the car crash. I feel this is much more compelling ending as it adds a pattern of similar circumstances around Jacob, but still doesn't confirm he is the killer. and further drives home some of the central points of the show. The grey area between right and wrong, the decision between what is right ethically, and what is right for the family, and how hard it is to straddle that line for the people involved. How a parent copes with loving someone that they are convinced did a horrific act. It keeps the same ambiguity of the show ending while adding the finality of Jacobs death, meaning we may never know the truth.
Although it feels like I've bemoaned the entire ending here, I still really enjoyed the show, and would probably give the whole show about an 8/10 if pressed for a score. Would have just been great for them to have gone through with the book ending as it's a little darker and much more in-keeping with the shows tone and presentation.
Layton and the red switch was the most infuriating and unnecessary thing I've seen in a long time.
Maybe it’s going to be an issue in the next episode, but Mando left his jet pack on the hillside, and never retrieved it. If he had, he would have been able to get to Grogu in time.
Gosh, the writing for this show is so utterly dreadful.
It was clear from the beginning of the show that Shiv felt that being a woman regardless of how capable she was meant that she would never be taken seriously as the successor both with her father and her brothers.
You see her mentions this in passing plenty of times including her fathers funeral when she spoke, I believe this caused great resentment from her towards her brothers and in particular Kendall.
This was likely the reason she decided to screw them over and team with Mattson as she saw this as the only way to get what she believed was deservedly hers.
A few episodes back when the siblings were planning to go into business themselves and all 3 would be equals appeared to the be a turning point for Shiv where she finally felt she was no longer being taken for granted and would be treated fairly based on merit however this didn't last long, when Ken and Roman decided to become Co-CEO's while they tried to land the Mattson deal, this likely was the final nail in the coffin as she then knew she would never be seen as an equal.
As mentioned she teamed with Mattson and as we saw then got screwed over, her decision at this point to side with her brothers despite knowing she would once again be taking the third seat was understandable because at this exact point Mattson's betrayal again pointed towards one of two things... he didn't want a Roy as CEO and would not be easily controlled ( most likely) or again it was another man that didn't believe a woman could do the job.. we don't get her take on it other than her acknowledging she got screwed.
I believe at this point her choice to side with her brothers and put kendall in the top spot made sense as at this point her hate for Mattsons betrayal was greater than her hate of the idea of one of her brothers succeeding.... only just.
Roll forward to the next day, her hate for Mattson has began to cool down... and just like a see-saw her hate for the idea of one of her brothers undeservedly getting the top spot began to rise back up but wasn't strong enough to not go through with it at the start of the day.
But watching Kendall at her fathers desk, feet up on the table.. and a whole load of other tells brought out the contempt once again at the idea of her being passed over just for being female despite in her opinion being the better fit for the job... and she then decided she'd rather see her husband in the position.
With Tom as CEO there is a possibility for her to manipulate him and in a roundabout way be able to claim she is CEO or closer to being CEO than her 2 brothers... something I'm sure she will lord over at any opportunity... and also don't forget their child could potentially be the next successor... s
WTF JUST HAPPENED MAN! This could be so amazing!!!!!!! I just hate America Chavez, her caracter is totally expendable, her image is based on a ridiculous stereotype and her being there didn’t cut out for me. Such a waist of potential. Wanda is so unstoppable it makes us lose interest! The instigating thing about a superhero is literally the things they can’t do, so if nobody can stop Wanda, it is boring. They didn’t even really explore the multiverse. Sooooo many things I didn’t like, it was a total miss for me. And it makes me really sad to say that, cause I love marvel, it makes me happy, but this movie….. :((((((
Darcy is so great. Kat Dennings should've had even more screentime in this.
We live in a time where seemingly everyone is fixated on past traumas, both real and/or imagined, yet, what they fail to realize is, that focusing on what has past rather than forgiving and forgetting, that is, moving forward, is what ACTUALLY dooms one to repetition. "A righteous man falls down 7 times, yet, he still gets up, but the wicked stumble in bad times".... Proverbs 24:16
Rather than having to correct some wrong, this season appears to have Nadia and Alan looking at different aspects of their lives through the lens of their own psyche's, to see that spending too much time focused on the "what if's" and the "what could be's, rather than rolling with the punches and realizing that sometimes, it simply really "is what it is", and "whatever will be will be".
Nadia, especially, fought hard to change things for the better by undoing a selfish act that changed her families fortunes, yet, once again found herself in a ...."bioaquadooloop", back where she started, until she realized that all the bs she went through was necessary to make her (and by extension those in her sphere) who she is in the present, just as the things her mother did affected who HER mother was, and so on back through time.
The wise man Solomon said: “I returned to see under the sun that the swift do not have the race, nor the mighty ones the battle, nor do the wise also have the food, nor do the understanding ones also have the riches, nor do even those having knowledge have the favor; because time and unforeseen occurrence befall them all.” (Ecclesiastes 9:11) ...
This is the journey of self discovery that Nadia and to a lesser extent Alan had to go through this season. We ALL have moments in time where we feel a "do over" would be welcome, but, we often fail to consider the "butterfly effect" that may have on everyone and everything else.
...As Satchel page famously said...,"Don't look back, cuz there might be something gaining on you"...
And now, a selection from the choir......
This is in many ways the exact movie that The Lego Batman Movie made fun of.
So, I can totally understand if this film reads like self-parody to some (I'll admit, the gravely film noir detective voice over was a bit much, it's been parodied to death at this point), but I'd argue that it's overall a refreshing take on the character in a well thought out story that includes some excellent performances. Paul Dano, Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz all nail their roles.
It's a typical Matt Reeves blockbuster in every sense. It's grounded, serious, and there's a strong emphasis on drama/tension, and less on action. The production and style of this thing are phenomenal. Excellent cinematography, which should be Oscar nominated (but probably won't), music, production value, costumes, directing, etcetera. It's grim, it's dark, it's gritty, but it doesn't feel like it's directed by a 16 year old edgelord either. I love how the colour palette of this film is restricted to black, grey, orange and red. It's perfect, taking clear influences from David Fincher films, neo noir detectives and '70s paranoia thrillers (maybe a hint of Marvel Netflix as well). I hope it reinvents the wheel for many blockbusters to come.
Its biggest problem are the pacing and the characters. I'm fine with defending longer films, but this isn't a smooth 3 hour ride. It holds its cards very close to the chest during the first half, to the point where it's hard to engage with and can get kinda boring. It's a lot of set-up, mood and atmosphere, and not much else. It doesn't really hook you with its characters or the dramatic intrigue of the story, as I didn't find this slow moving mystery compelling enough by itself (partially because it doesn't really engage the audience; you can't solve it by yourself). There's not even that much action to compensate, besides a few quick beats here and there.
It also relies too much on the cultural iconography of Batman and Catwoman that already exists in our current zeitgeist, and while I might know those characters as cultural icons, I don't know this Batman, or this Catwoman. It eventually gets there though, as The Riddler and Catwoman get a lot more interesting in their own right as the film goes along, but it takes a long time. I love that this Riddler is essentially re-imagined to be a radicalized 4 Chan incel , which feels very relevant for today. Still, we know very little about Batman by the end of it (besides his brooding indie rockstar behavior), which is mostly due to the general lack of Bruce Wayne in the film. Batman cannot be interesting without a good Bruce Wayne accompanying him. That's nothing against Robert Pattinson, he's very good in it, but the writing for his character is very one note. As a film, it would've benefitted a lot from a deeper dive into his psyche, because the emotional arc of his character doesn't feel earned by the end.
Still, these issues could easily be fixed in a sequel, it's a good enough foundation for a series of great Batman films.
7/10
Can't believe this episode ended with them hugging and absolutely nothing else happened after that.
In all seriousness, I thought we as a society were over killing sapphic characters for shock value, but I guess not. What a disappointing conclusion to a horrible season. Phoebe Waller-Bridge created such a fantastic show and Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer consistently knocked their performances out of the park, and for what? Season 2 was already a letdown, but after that the show just became a parody of itself and it was clear the new showrunners had no idea what to do with these characters. The last 3 minutes of this ep were pure clownery. How groundbreaking to kill off one of the leads and leave the other in anguish. I hope Laura Neal doesn't cut herself on all that edge.
I guess at least Sandra got a Golden Globe, Jodie got an Emmy, and they got to dive tongue first into each other's mouths. Good for them. I hope their next projects treat them better.
Can't even imagine the emotional and financial damage he inflicted upon so many women. Victim blaming is easy when you haven't been in the shoes of the other person. I'm glad they got their power back in some way, 'cause many of these assholes take advantage of discretion and these women made sure he was known for who he really is: a piece of shit, like one of them said, pathetic, definitely, and a criminal. Whoever's with him now won't be able to say they didn't know what they were getting into.
I swear to God if all the awkwardness in the world come up together it will be this episode.
I have a very big question ... If they used a gem and only brought back half down their father's body, why if they use another gem, the upper half of the body isn't appear for another whole day yet?
why oh why cant there be a proper ending like we all want ? Typical series I hate it when they do that
Sae byeok looked so pretty she should have survived and got together with the main character , maybe get the house together and live with her brother too. Get her mom out of North Korea while meeting the main characters daughter. Sigh
