Ignore the negative reviews, Arcadian is a really good sci-fi horror thriller - it’s tense, well written. Cage is great, as usual. The story isn’t complicated, as all films should be - a battle against evil, a fight to survive against the odds, a fathers sacrificial love for his sons, boy meets girl - just good, honest, story telling.
Also, it’s encouraging to see a lack of shoe-horned woke inclusivity, why? Because every film doesn’t need a token diverse cast for the sake of it. People deep down care about the fundamentals in life, love / hate / passion / sacrifice / revenge / jealousy / good vs evil - and Arcadian manages to touch on some of these core values that make great stories.
This should be relabelled from a violent movie to a vile-ent movie.
We’ve all heard of the saying ‘it’s so bad, it’s good’… well that doesn’t apply here. It’s so bad, it’s horrendous.
One of the worst films I’ve ever seen. First third was tolerable but then it descended into oblivion. All I could think about what my teenage son looking for a way to charge his phone. The only saving Grace was the slight but obvious twist near the end, but it wasn’t enough to redeem it from the eating of the vulture, which FTR is not to be done in real life at all costs, as it will make you violently ill. But Bex got down okay anyways. :joy:
A Series of Unfortunate Events… but for adults.
From the opening frames of the blue clad baby breastfeeding, it was bound to go only one way. Beautifully shot. But alas, sadly yet another anti masculine woke movie.
A soft ‘horror’ sci fi made for teenagers. Once upon a time in a decade long ago, we had classics like Aliens, and the Lost Boys… now we’ve cute killer aliens and teens with PTSD
A fair attempt at a Predator film, but unfortunately suffers from some poor CGI and a work statement. I’m all for girl power, but why do directors constantly feel the need to emasculate masculinity to prove that women can be smart and strong too?
Beautiful television. I rarely enjoy tv series, especially with the onslaught of Netflix and Amazon crap. I enjoyed Stranger Things and Black Mirror… But this, a thing of beauty. Brilliant story, great acting, beautiful cinematography, well crafted. It’s similar in a fashion to Westworld, only far less convoluted and way more intriguing. Hats off to Ben Stiller!
It went from man wants to get revenge for murder of a loved one (John Wick story) to man wants to get revenge for Mother India, marginalised people like trans women. (Woke John Wick story)
You know the nightmare you have where it’s all shadowy and dodgy, and you’re trying to escape, or hide, from something you’ve done, and you wake up realising the nightmare was an exaggeration of some past sin…
Well, Ripley is the nightmare. Ripley is the thing that Emerald Fennell wished Saltburn could be.
How Nicole Kidman didn’t get an Oscar for this is mind blowing. I can’t say anymore than that.
I think I still prefer ‘Alive’. Maybe because 30yrs ago I skipped school with my best friend to watch it at the Chester Odeon. Alive is Hollywoods take on this amazing story and a more palatable version. But this is more visceral, more gritty and a very good film. I’m glad it’s been retold in this way. The ending is incredibly moving. Watch and be inspired.
If narcissists fell in love…
I’m sorry. I didn’t actually see the whole movie. We lasted 90 seconds. You’ll see why when you press play…
Thank goodness, a decent enough film that doesn’t feel the need to emasculate men.
The man serving popcorn said ‘the Batman, better than all the dark knight Batman’s’ I should have known there and then he didn’t know what he was talking about. Unlike Nolan’s masterpiece, the Dark Knight, this Batman won’t stand the test of time. It’s a film that doesn’t know what it wants to be… dark? yeah a bit, but what’s with the hero saving people from water and carrying a little child… and the love story with cat woman… it’s like Se7en only not nearly as clever. And it borrows from so many others (the Crow?).
It’s narrative is convoluted, the riddler isn’t scary nor is he a patch on Ledger’s Joker. He’s just not believable. The penguin is brilliant, but merely a side story, the car chase and action scenes are phenomenal, but almost lost in too many drawn out conversations with Gordon. Alfred isn’t anywhere near as endearing as Michael Caine’s. All in all, a good film, but too long, and too unsure of what it wants to be. And what’s with that wingsuit…
Pretty good but slightly over baked with the narrative. And the scene at the end in the multi-storey car park where he does a Batman… ruined it.
Another not so subtle wokeish pile of crap from Netflix. The premise promised so much, and yet the movie delivers so little. I literally knew the moment I saw the weird daughter that the last shot of the film would be her face. Anti white, anti government, anti men, ultimately leads to anti… itself.
Why does he feel the need to apologise for assuming that she was in a heterosexual relationship, and why do we does she forgive him for his ‘mistake’?
My point? There’s no need to go woke. :persevere: Other than that the film is okay. Enough tension and drama to hold you for 95 minutes
Far right conservative-‘Christian’ pulpit preaching agenda driven nonsense.
Another Netflix fail. More woke, more stretched out stories, more pointless subplots. Can’t believe that White Rabbit is connected to this junk. No matter how hard it tries, Netflix can’t come close to Stranger Things.
Still trying to work out why Luke would kneel at his boss? there’s gender stereotypes at play, sexism, feminism, but is there also another dig at…masculinity?
Fascinating insight into the alleged rigged election of the most corrupt ‘democratic’ leader in modern history.
Not one single, positive male character, again.
I changed my mind. It’s not so ridiculous it’s good, it’s so ridiculous it’s potentially the worst film ever. Big claim eh? Well, watch it. Even the worst and cheesiest Arnie line from his 80s films was infinitely sweeter and more palatable than this horrific, soulless joke of a movie.
A walking contradiction. It’s so ridiculously bad, cheesy, fake, unreal, that it’s good.
It’s like Boyz N The Hood crossed with Stand By Me, only, and I never thought this possible… better :scream_cat:
Superb drama. Paul Giamatti deserves an Oscar. Heart warming and yet heart breaking.
…twisted, dark, seductive, charming, repugnant. People won’t help but be repulsed and drawn in. People won’t help but see themselves. A tragic sign of the times we live in.
