Ignore the negative reviews, Arcadian is a really good sci-fi horror thriller - it’s tense, well written. Cage is great, as usual. The story isn’t complicated, as all films should be - a battle against evil, a fight to survive against the odds, a fathers sacrificial love for his sons, boy meets girl - just good, honest, story telling.
Also, it’s encouraging to see a lack of shoe-horned woke inclusivity, why? Because every film doesn’t need a token diverse cast for the sake of it. People deep down care about the fundamentals in life, love / hate / passion / sacrifice / revenge / jealousy / good vs evil - and Arcadian manages to touch on some of these core values that make great stories.
Not one single, positive male character, again.
It went from man wants to get revenge for murder of a loved one (John Wick story) to man wants to get revenge for Mother India, marginalised people like trans women. (Woke John Wick story)
You know the nightmare you have where it’s all shadowy and dodgy, and you’re trying to escape, or hide, from something you’ve done, and you wake up realising the nightmare was an exaggeration of some past sin…
Well, Ripley is the nightmare. Ripley is the thing that Emerald Fennell wished Saltburn could be.
I changed my mind. It’s not so ridiculous it’s good, it’s so ridiculous it’s potentially the worst film ever. Big claim eh? Well, watch it. Even the worst and cheesiest Arnie line from his 80s films was infinitely sweeter and more palatable than this horrific, soulless joke of a movie.
Why does he feel the need to apologise for assuming that she was in a heterosexual relationship, and why do we does she forgive him for his ‘mistake’?
My point? There’s no need to go woke. :persevere: Other than that the film is okay. Enough tension and drama to hold you for 95 minutes
How Nicole Kidman didn’t get an Oscar for this is mind blowing. I can’t say anymore than that.
A walking contradiction. It’s so ridiculously bad, cheesy, fake, unreal, that it’s good.
It’s like Boyz N The Hood crossed with Stand By Me, only, and I never thought this possible… better :scream_cat:
I think I still prefer ‘Alive’. Maybe because 30yrs ago I skipped school with my best friend to watch it at the Chester Odeon. Alive is Hollywoods take on this amazing story and a more palatable version. But this is more visceral, more gritty and a very good film. I’m glad it’s been retold in this way. The ending is incredibly moving. Watch and be inspired.
Superb drama. Paul Giamatti deserves an Oscar. Heart warming and yet heart breaking.
…twisted, dark, seductive, charming, repugnant. People won’t help but be repulsed and drawn in. People won’t help but see themselves. A tragic sign of the times we live in.
Another not so subtle wokeish pile of crap from Netflix. The premise promised so much, and yet the movie delivers so little. I literally knew the moment I saw the weird daughter that the last shot of the film would be her face. Anti white, anti government, anti men, ultimately leads to anti… itself.
From the opening frames of the blue clad baby breastfeeding, it was bound to go only one way. Beautifully shot. But alas, sadly yet another anti masculine woke movie.
What would you get if you crossed Aliens, Platoon, Artificial Intelligence and Bladerunner together… despite its lack of originality, The Creator is a solid 7/10.
Apart from the little hints of wokeness, it’s a good solid tv show.
Trying to think of a positive male role model in this film. Hmmmm, nope, not even the man of the old couple celebrating their anniversary… he was a bit of a coward. So there’s about 30-40 men in this film, and 5 male leads - all of them are either drunkard, violent, weak, sexist, stupid, cowardly or sexually aggressive. Of the 3 main female leads, they are heroic, brave, kind, long suffering, wise and strong. The only other 2 women are in it for a fleeting moment and are seen to be promiscuous.
So what we have here is another well made, well shot, well acted, anti-masculine film for generation Z.
A Series of Unfortunate Events… but for adults.
Still trying to work out why Luke would kneel at his boss? there’s gender stereotypes at play, sexism, feminism, but is there also another dig at…masculinity?
… after 15 minutes of horrible acting and CGI overkill, I found myself wondering ‘does the cost of making a film this poor get outweighed by the profit of streaming it on Netflix?’ - because if it doesn’t, I can’t think of a single reason why people would make or appreciate this garbage.
If narcissists fell in love…
A soft ‘horror’ sci fi made for teenagers. Once upon a time in a decade long ago, we had classics like Aliens, and the Lost Boys… now we’ve cute killer aliens and teens with PTSD
It was exciting, then silly, then exciting, then finished very silly.
I’m still trying to work out what the Director’s main point is. Is it just anti-patriarchy, anti-matriarchy or neither… there’s also some interesting and very subtle red flags of over-inclusivity, such as the woman in a hijab in Barbie land at the beginning, meaning that in this make believe society without any religion, Islam is the only religion represented. Surely Greta should have included representation from all religions and not just Islam?
Both Margot and Ryan are brilliant as ever, but I just can’t help but see this as another film in the long line of recent films that ever so subtly attacks masculinity.
Don’t believe the hype. Massively underwhelming film. Only because of Nolan is this worth a watch. But let’s face facts, how can a film about the invention of the Atom Bomb, — then the creators guilt and subsequent rejection from the US government — be anything more than a glorified documentary.
Far right conservative-‘Christian’ pulpit preaching agenda driven nonsense.
There’s bad films and there’s bad films. Think Inception and Total Recall, but minus everything good about those two films, and you have Hypnotic.
A strange choice of genre sub plot narrative; murder mystery… but would have been best to stick with sci-fi thriller.
Fascinating insight into the alleged rigged election of the most corrupt ‘democratic’ leader in modern history.
The makers had 5yrs worth of technology advancements more than Spielberg had with Jurassic Park, and yet it’s as if they were using tech from 1978. Terrible film.
