Ranking and rating of tv shows I’ve watched

This ranking is of the shows I’ve watched all or at least a good chunk of. I’ve seen lots of snippets of other tv shows here and there, and have almost certainly forgot about a show here or there that I’ve seen through (I’ll add if I remember any) but this is what I can remember for now. Also not counting kids shows.

  1. Bodyguard Great min series. If it was longer it would be higher. One of the best opening 20 mins to a show I’ve seen.
  2. Doctor who (1963) Again, can’t claim to have seen all of it, but as my dad is a massive doctor who fan he’s sat me down to watch a good few. Was a big part of my childhood and was some fantastic stories. But unfortunately low budgets and some poor stories mean it doesn’t rank higher.
  3. Chewin’ the Fat The sketch show that started still game. Genuinely hilarious, and would be higher if I had managed to see more of just the 15 of so episodes that were on Netflix.
  4. Top gear Loved this like I love the grand tour, but has went down since the original trio left.
  5. Our planet Another Attenborough documentary I actually sat down and watched all the way through. Not as good as planet earth 2 but still amazing.
  6. Outnumbered An incredibly accurate representation of family life in Britain. Very funny.
  7. Skins Didn’t watch the third set of characters, but really liked the first 2 seasons and then loved the introduction of the new characters in 3 and 4. James cook is the best thing about this show and he’s one of my favourite characters ever, but I can’t rank this show higher for only 2/7 of its seasons. Season 7 was also okay.
  8. Mr Bean A British classic. Very funny and Rowan Atkinson is always a win.
  9. Chernobyl Again, due to its length it won’t be higher for me but it was incredible.
  10. Obi-Wan Kenobi Slow to get going but really enjoyed the last 3 episodes. As a huge Star Wars fan it’s also somehow the first Star Wars tv series I’ve watched.
  11. The Big Bang theory Used to really like this show but stopped watching it around season 8 or 9. It ranged in quality for sure but all and all I enjoyed what I saw of it.
  12. Friday night dinner Fun show, and would be higher if every character were as good as Martin or Jim.
  13. Burnistoun Chewin’ the fats younger brother, some parts of this show are brilliant and I often spend free time watching short clips of it on YouTube.
  14. Scream This show was pretty decent. Granted I was about 15 when I watched it and therefore didn’t have the best judge of quality I still enjoyed it. Was a bit upset when it didn’t continued after its second season.
  15. 13 reasons why Enjoyed the first season and even the second but I felt the third season was unnecessary, and didn’t even watch the 4th m.
  16. Riverdale Actually enjoyed it to begin with, despite being a bit cheesy, but after season 2 it just seemed to get more and more ridiculous. Stopped around season 4 and from what I’ve seen it’s continued in that direction.

15. The office
Hilariously awkward and brilliantly written. Still yet to watch it’s US counterpart.
16. The grand tour
Just love these 3 guys. Above top gear because top gear has shot right down since they left.
17. Fawlty towers
Hilarious. John Cleese is comedy gold.
18. Sherlock
The chemistry between Cumberbatch and Freeman is brilliant, and the show is incredibly clever and well written.
19. Line of duty
Again, the ending was slightly disappointing but all in all a great show.

  1. Stranger things The recent 4th season had definitely shot this up a good few places. It was one of the best seasons of television I’ve ever seen.
  2. Still game An old favourite of mine. Couldn’t count how many times I’ve watched it. A show that is completely engrained in Scottish society, and is quoted by me more times than I can count.
  3. How I met your mother Another show let down by its poor ending. If it had ended better it genuinely could’ve been on par with friends for me. Such a funny yet emotional tv show.
  4. The inbetweeners Just another show I quote almost every day. Never seen a more accurate representation of British teenagers.
  5. Friday night lights I loved this show. Even though I am bizarrely a fan of American football despite being Scottish, I genuinely think anyone could enjoy this show because it’s so much more than just that. Eric and Tami are two of my favourite tv show characters ever.

  1. The It Crowd Just peak British comedy. Utterly hilarious and another show I’ve watched countless times.
  2. Doctor who (2005) I’ve watched doctor who since I was kid. Granted I think the show has decreased in quality over the years, but even now there are still some really good episodes, and if Whittaker had a better writer I think she really could’ve been a great doctor. Thankfully with Davies coming back it’s looking up for the show, and hopefully it will return to how good it was under Moffat.
  3. The simpsons Now I can’t claim to have seen all of this simpsons. But, what I have seen, in particular the first 10 or so seasons, are just brilliant. My favourite animated series for sure.
  4. Blackadder Another peak British comedy. Might even be higher if every season was as good as 2 and 4.
  5. Planet earth 2 I don’t want to rank the Attenborough documentaries too high as I have always preferred fictional series’, but planet earth 2 is just incredible. It’s also the first Attenborough documentary I think I sat down and watched all the way through, as opposed to just catching the odd episode here or there of others (I haven’t included those in my rankings).

  1. Peaky Blinders The only tv show I’ve watched that’s maintained it’s high quality throughout its run. Fantastic cast and great story writing, ended perfectly. Yeah, my favourite tv show ever.
  2. Game of Thrones Would probably be number 1 if it hadn’t ended like it did. Seasons 1-6 were unbelievably good, I still really enjoyed 7, and then 8… it’s not quite as bad as it’s made out, but my biggest problem with the 8th season was the fact that in a season with only 6 episodes (4 short of the usual 10) it somehow managed to still have 2 completely useless episodes (1 & 4), meaning the other 4 were too rushed. The battle of winterfell while visually and musically stunning wasn’t anywhere near brutal enough for the good guys (they only lost 2 main characters out of what, 20 or so ?) and the ending of the show just didn’t add up. Still sits this high because of how good seasons 1-7 were though.
  3. Friends Probably seen it 10 or so times through, never get bored of it.
  4. The wire Currently midway through season 4 and man is this show good. My favourite thing about it is that I think almost every single character in the show has something extremely unlikeable about them, and just the insane sense of realism you feel watching the show. When I finish it there’s a good chance it’ll be higher, but it’s 4th for now.
